We got literally one of each mocktail, starter, main, and dessert because it all looked so good and that's truly the right move. For favorites for each category, my fave mocktail was Among the Sunflowers, my fave starter was the stew (the umami flavor was out of this world), my favorite main was either the ribs or the duck frites, and my favorite dessert was the matcha creme brûlée. Always a big fan of OH since they first opened a few years ago. Use to love some of the sandwiches and the breakfast. Nice to see them move on and use their wonderful skills on a wonderful dining experience. The lights are low and a same light on each table. Only 7 tables, I think, so get a reservation. Or you can try to walk in and maybe able to get a set at the coffee bar. Service was really good. The two waiters both served us and they seemed to communicate really well and did not miss a beat. There are 4 starters and 4 mains, some teas, coffee and 4 hand-crafted mocktails. Or you can BYOB for $10. Seemed to be about half and half when we were there. We started with the Beets which had some marinated olives, walnuts, orange and gribiche. A wonderfully tasty start to our meal. We shared the mains of Ribs and Lamb Chops. The cured salmon dish comes with the latke and some apple cold slaw. They taste really good, savory and flavorful. if I'm being really picky - maybe the amount of salmon is quite small, but I'm okay with it! After an hour-ish wait, my friends and I had a very tasty breakfast on a Sunday morning at Oak Hill Post! The restaurant is quite small, and the line seemed almost interminable. Seating is done after you order at the counter, and take out orders take even longer when done in the restaurant. The line snaked through the restaurant, making the waiting experience unpleasant for the people eating and the people waiting--not to mention the people serving who had to continuously cut through the line. Once our food was ready, we were very happy! We loved the delectable mashed browns, the savory pulled pork toast, and the great sausage gravy on what could have been a slightly softer biscuit. Finally stopped here for breakfast after hearing positive things from several people. The hype was definitely not misplaced, this breakfast/lunch establishment is a true gem. I ordered the breakfast smash which is basically a breakfast burger on a fresh biscuit. It was so tasty and it might now be my favorite breakfast sandwich in Pittsburgh. I ordered to go, and the food was just being finished when I walked in at the scheduled time. I appreciate the accuracy of the pickup time estimate so I wasn't time waiting for them to finish and the food was getting cold waiting for me to pick it up. Kudos to the crew here for getting that spot on. The staff were all super friendly and I'm sure it would be a good experience eating in as well. Oak Hill Post is my favorite breakfast spot. I stop by on a weekend early morning about once a month. Easy street parking. The atmosphere is warm and casual. The waitstaff is always friendly. In the early morning I have not had to wait for a table and I don't feel rushed. Order at the counter. Menu changes seasonally. I crave their big fluffy biscuits with lemon curd, salty crispy bacon and sausage gravy. There are several types of coffees, I usually get the Ceiba from Guatemala which is served drip brewed. In the winter they had a salmon, latkes, fennel, dill and cream dish that I really hope is brought back. Don't expect to get seated when you walk in, you definitely need to order at the counter and then they place you at a table. You can't save tables ahead of ordering so expect to wait in line for a while during busy times. I am in love with this charming neighborhood lunchette with elevated favors. I told my brunch crew this would be my model if I ever open a brunch place of my own. The attention to every detail in addition to the food is impressive to this discerning eye. From the ordering and seating process, to elegance in the simplicity of the small menu justifies the cost. They requested everyone in our party be present before ordering. Place was a little out of the way but everything in Pittsburgh seems to just be about 15-20 min away. Got here on Easter and there wasn't many people around. Seems like a sleepy old town with a cool retro vibe. Food was very good - a little on the expensive side. The French toast was some of the best I've tasted. Biscuit sandwiches were fantastic. The definitely make their biscuits in house and do so very well. Was a little surprised how long the order took given there were very few people were in the place. I was humbled by what Pittsburgh's overall food scene had to offer, being spoiled by the many options of the San Francisco Bay Area. After doing my research and discovering this gem of a brunch spot in the Brookline neighborhood of Pittsburgh, I made my drive through the Liberty Tunnel from the Golden Triangle Downtown area, where I passed through quaint and charming neighborhoods to get to my culinary destination. Upon entering, I was warmly greeted by Nathan, who presented me with the menu but also introduced me to the daily special, the "Henny Penny," a perfectly toasted sandwich containing wonderfully silky chicken liver mousse, crisp savory bacon, with a radish and onion slaw. It was delectable. I don't always order drinks since I prefer water, but sometimes something unique catches my attention. Behind their coffee bar, I saw Blueberry Ginger Kombucha ON TAP and decided to give it a try. The brew was apparently popular, as they did not have enough for a full glass and offered me what they tapped out pro bono! At this point, mid-bite, one of the friendly employees (Mercer, I believe was his name) asked how everything was. I responded with my mouth full of moussey and bacony goodness (how rude!!!) and exclaimed, "SOOO GOOD!" He laughed and nodded! All of the warmth I felt by the staff and the food I ate proved I needed something to-go; the tourist in me felt the extra splurging must be done while on vacay! So I ordered for the road their cheesy and oniony mashbrown balls AND house-made sausage patty which was fantastically seasoned with hints of garlic, ginger, and some other flavors I couldn't quite pinpoint, but was tantalizingly scrumptious. And to add compliment to recovery (opposite of insult to injury; my poor attempt at creative writing!), I returned the next day with my girlfriend to enjoy another meal. This time, we had the Oak Hill Breakfast and the Friday Gnocchi special, a potato and ricotta goodness in a smooth sauce, covered with bacon bits and scallions. So, I've been trying all the places in Allegheny County and the City of Pittsburgh that seem to appeal to me as "foodie" joints and though I've enjoyed many places, I've found only one so far - Pusadee's... I visit this area once or twice a month and am always seeking amazing eats. I've friended a couple of like-minded "Foodie friends" on social media to go to places they rate high and typically, they're spot on. This was one of those places. I came in on a weekday morning soon after they opened and was amazing to see all the employees inside, which told me they were getting prep'd for a good run of customers, either for breakfast or perhaps for lunch too. When giving my order I smelled something amazing being prepared and asked the girl taking my order if those were some amazing biscuits being made, she said it was. That made me want to add a side of biscuit and gravy to my order. I had pre-scoped out the menu and knew I wanted to order their Breakfast Smash. Soon after sitting down, the bartender/barista brought me my drip coffee (I asked for an Americana, but they don't do espresso) and the coffee came in a HUGE cup, very nicely done bean too... Definitely enjoyable!! I could hear the sizzle of the smash burger being made and about 5 minutes later my main course came out; it was the most picture-perfect dish I've had in the PGH area in a very long time (and many visits)!!! The breakfast sandwich was picture perfect, with the beautiful smash patty hanging out and the biscuit could not have looked any more absolutely perfect! The taste and looks presented itself as probably the BEST BISCUIT I'VE EVER HAD!!!!!! The flavors of the sandwich was insanely good too! Biscuit & gravy was interesting, as it had broken up pieces of sausage patty in it, but that's not a bad thing and the flavors were spot-on! Best sausage gravy I've had in Allegheny County for sure! Fresh herbs were noticeable and flavorful! The density of the biscuit was like a cake, the flavors resembled baked sweetness. This Illy Philly was at work, and it's Lent, and even though I mainly eat vegan. I wanted fish....I looked online and saw Oak Hill Posts Fish Friday Sandwich and thought,'Why not?' and ordered a sandwich. Wellllll......first, it's 16 dollars, and it doesn't even come with a side of fries, but I decided to wait to give my verdict. I get there and it's absolutely cute, the staff was friendly, and everything I saw being served looked really good. I picked up my sandwich, ordered a side of fries for 3.50, and left. I bit into my sandwich and it was.....ok.... not spectacular, and definitely not worth 16 dollars. The fish 'piece' was really tiny and there was so much coleslaw and everything else that it overshadows the fish. The service was nice and everything else looked great, so I hope the fish sandwich gets better because all I tasted was slaw and the cheddar cheese biscuit. I can't believe I've neglected to review this spot! I've visited Oak Hill Post a few times (and enjoyed their take-out as well), and every iteration has been incredibly delicious. It's a small dining space, but well-appointed and comfortable, it doesn't feel cramped or over-stuffed. I would definitely advise against a party larger than 4 or 5 for dine-in just for the sake of available seats! That being said, it's an easy ordering process at the front counter, and they do a great job of pacing things so that it's not too many orders and not enough seats. The menu is small but creative and interesting, with seasonal breakfast and lunch fare that is a cut above your average diner offerings. Their coffee is strong and their drinks are beautifully crafted, and the orders are made fairly quickly! I've enjoyed their breakfast sandwich on a biscuit with a sausage patty (it's transcendent), their latkes, their pork belly toast (incredible), fries, and sausage gravy with biscuits. All were fantastic and so flavorful. Their servers are kind and friendly and I love the warm atmosphere.
