Just writing a follow-up review with a couple updates. Their famous uni-truffle pasta dish is still a family favorite, but is slightly different from when we've had it before. It's still good, but not as glowing as I would have described. it a while back. I think it may be the uni. After 2 visits since my first review, there's just something a bit off. That said, I have to throw in HUGE praise for their lobster sandwich! As a native Bostonian, I rarely eat lobster outside New England, but OMG this is SOOOOO good! I have a straight obsession with Uni, and my eyes lit up when I saw the high ratings on Yelp and people recommending its Uni Pasta. Made reservations for date night and requested for outdoor dining. Instead of the sidewalk dining that I expected, we were led up the stairs, past the bathroom to an interesting al fresco dining. Not sure if this was an area that was built specifically for the pandemic, but I recalled telling my date that it feels like I am dining in one of those private kitchens in Asia overlooking at your neighbors windows. We placed ordered several appetizers including Raw Oysters, Grilled Octopus, Halibut Carpaccio, and Scallop Carpaccio along with our entrees. I was pretty disturbed that they didn't spaced the timing and decided to bring all dishes to our table at the same time. And they didn't even make an effort to help us. I felt like I was paying "nice dinner" dining prices for crap service. As for the food. They were okay. Did not wow'd me, and the service and ambiance received definitely put a dimmer on my dining experience. Both my date and myself walked out feeling like we paid for overpriced seafood. Came here for DineLa and had their four course $55 menu. I got the oysters, grilled octopus, and truffle uni pasta, with the chocolate lava cake for dessert. Food: 4/5. Let me start by saying their seafood here is absolutely top notch. Their oysters were so fresh and yummy I wanted to eat 12 by myself. There was no fishy briny taste, just sweet pure oyster. The grilled octopus was perfectly cooked and meaty, and I enjoyed the arugula that came with it. The truffle uni pasta was meh. Truffle was very strong at first but then I think I got used to it. The whole dish just felt too heavy without a certain oomph. I ordered it because it looks like everyone else did but I don't recommend this. My friend got the bass and I wish I ordered that instead because it was way more delicious. Chocolate lava cake didn't ooze out like a lava cake would, but still pretty good. Service: 3.5/5. They seemed short staffed so the service we did receive was quick and inattentive. Nonetheless, they all worked really hard and it didn't ruin the experience. First time dining here so I will give this another try before making a recommendation on if you should try this or not. Food was great. Service was terrible. Perhaps the server was new. She wasn't rude but certainly didn't have it to gather. We were a party of 5. Apps came out timely. 3 entrees came out timely and when everyone finished eating the remaining 2 entrees came out even after we asked for status a few times. Server was less than helpful so we had to ask for a manager. No manager on duty but the lead server cam over to try to right the situation. We started with the Seafood Tower, Chicken dumplings and shrimp and chive dumplings. We had the shrimp fried rice, seafood rice, Orange chicken, scallops and much more. All delicious. The last time I came here, the front servers were a tad slow but they were nice and the food made up for it. This time, the service was even slower. They looked short staffed (server also mixing drinks). The food came out slow for every course and worse, half of the entrees came out but the other half of us waited 20 more minutes before it arrived (for the Chilean Sea Bass). The first half of us had already finished our entree. Very disappointing. Food was cooked the same like before and it was tasty. But the quality has decreased on some of the dishes. My uni pasta had the tiniest piece of uni. Overall, spent $700 for 6 people and it just wasn't worth it. I don't think we will come back again. read more

We got oysters, deluxe sushi platter which comes with a salad and miso, salmon carpaccio and my very favorite hamachi ceviche. I love this place! The outdoor seating is really cute and nice at night with the heaters. I think their menu is fantastic. They have fun drinks, tons of food options (appetizers, sushi, seafood, and meat options if you aren't huge on seafood). It's also super reasonably priced for LA. Their cocktails are $13- we got a lavender Moscow mule and the lavender spritz which had gin/Prosecco. They were really good- just had a small hint of lavender. For food, we got the spicy tuna crispy rice (just comes with soy sauce, not the sweet sauce that some places do). We also got the trio sushi roll combo (soup, salad, and 3 rolls, 6 pieces each- spicy tuna, California, and veggie. I ordered the seafood in Thai basil sauce with a side of rice. Really enjoyed the food here. The Miso soup, sea bass, crispy rice, rolls and sautéed green beans were delicious. However, the service and atmosphere needs a bit of work. There was water all over the inside booth seats we accidentally sat in and got wet, an employee was sweeping the floor and kept banging the broom against the dust pan repeatedly, and our server disappeared for long periods of time. When our food was delivered, there were no bowls for the wasabi and soy sauce for the rolls. It's not like this was late at night and they were slammed, this was right when the restaurant opened, so really no excuse for the lack of service. We had a company function on the second floor. It was very dimly lit but the atmosphere was good. Headed straight to the bar and got a lychee martini. If you like strong drinks, you'll like this place. I'm not a heavy drinker and one martini made me dizzy on an empty stomach. The food was very good. For the appetizer, I ordered the grilled octopus. It was perfectly cooked and cut easily with a knife. It was not chewy at all like when octopus gets overcooked. For the entree there were several choices: lamb chops, wagyu steak, sea bass, scallops, and pasta. I asked the waitress which is best and she emphatically said the lamb chops. I'm glad I followed her advice. The chops were perfectly seasoned, not gamey at all. A little pink in the center. So delicious. But the best part was the bed of roasted brussel sprouts on the bottom. There was a lot of sprouts on the plate which was good because they were delicious. Garlicky, salty, with a roasted crunch on the outside. This was the best brussel sprouts I've ever had. The other entrees were not as inspired. The steak was just a piece of grilled meat with a small side of asparagus. Not a very good presentation. But the worst was the scallops. When it arrived, I was shocked by how sparse the plate looked. It was three small grilled disks of scallops with three asparagus spears on the side. I felt really bad for the guy who ordered it. All three scallops could easily have been one mouthful. So bottom line, go with the lamb chops. They have valet parking out front which is very convenient since it's hard to find parking in that neighborhood. You don't want to be parked far away on the side streets and have to navigate the homeless tents. Definitely would go back again for the drinks and the lamb chops. read more

I love the Ambiance of this place for starters. They place music I can vibe too and the interior is nice. The food was tasty but it just took too long for the dish to come out. They also put the wrong meats in a couple of our dishes but they fixed it right away. I ordered the Salmon Carpaccio with Yuzu Soy. Wow this was sooo fresh, such simple flavors that make big impact on the taste. It's so perfectly balanced and complimentary. Came here last month for Dine LA with my family and family friends. I made a reservation online well in advance and dropped off my party while I went to look for parking. About ten minutes later I got to the restaurant myself and was surprised that they still weren't seated. There were plenty of open tables but it seemed like the host was scrambling about where to put us. Ultimately she decided we were going to sit upstairs. When we first were guided upstairs we noticed it was very dark with not much lights on, no tables set up and EXTREMELY hot. We waited while the lights were turned on, table set and air conditioner turned on. Once seated we were given menus right away and started to take a look at our options. A few people in the party said the air conditioning vent was blowing straight in their face so they asked for it to be lowered a bit. After a few tries the temperature of the upstairs was adjusted to a moderate environment. This beginning experience is truly the only reason they lost a star. Otherwise everything else was wonderful. We all ordered different items so everyone could try a bit of it all. The scallop carpaccio was my favorite for course 1, however the shrimp and chive dumpling (not pictured) was great too. Next came time for course 2. The bluefin tuna with fresh uni surprised me. The uni was nice and buttery and super smooth. The grilled octopus was soft and wonderfully seasoned as well. Next came time for course 3 which was the entree. The chilean bass in miso sauce was by far my favorite! The sauce truly compliments the dish and the fish was so soft. For dessert the chocolate lava cake did not disappoint. Overall the food came at a good pace and the waitress always came over to check up on us. All of the food was presented beautifully and tasted exquisite. If it wasn't for the first impression I would have given this review 5 stars. read more

I really hate that The quality of this Uni pasta has gone downhill if they made their food with love the way they used to when they first opened they wouldn't have almost 1000 reviews and still be at barely 4 stars. This pasta was actually my favorite dish. I ordered it throughout the pandemic as well if used to have more than one piece of Uni and lots of fish eggs, but is different especially in the taste it cost more but the quality is not there. they cut corners in the preparation of the dish, which is why they will no longer get my service. I don't care how late they stay open for. I will go to Berris next door over them any night. They must realize they used to be packed, and that is no longer for a reason . Went here for a small birthday lunch. Max seating is 6 ppl and reservations are highly recommended. It was an good experience. Masks are worn by staff, paper menus are used, mask required when stepping away from your table. Food and drinks: cocktails were good. There's something for everyone, or call your drink. Food was tasty. We got several rolls and sashimi that were inhaled they are so good. Every flavor was well balanced, and the flavor of the sashimi was not only balanced but delicate. We live right by this spot and never noticed it! It's an amazing place for all types of tastes buds. Our waiter was amazing and they have outside seating. Try the Lavender Mule! It's really tasty. We jumped right into main dishes and got the Mango Roll , Sashimi Sampler, and Walnut Shrimp. Everything was well portioned and the sashimi pieces were soooo fresh and big portions! The mango roll was exactly what I wanted with a side of ponzu sauce. My boyfriend loved the walnut shrimp. We will be back to try the rest of their menu. We first get there and had to wait to be seated because apparently they had ran out of tables. Since they had sat us at the bar to wait the bartender was so kind to provide us with some water and a free champagne for the long wait. When we finally got seated the waitress didn't even come by to check in on us until 40 minutes of us waiting and just asked "you guys already ordered right?" Like no we haven't even been acknowledged since we sat down. Sadly it did ruin our night because I didn't want to keep waiting around and by the time we left it was too late to go anywhere for dinner. Holy moly, was the uni pasta delicious. Your choices are pretty solid if you pick from any of the popular dishes listed on Yelp. The squid ink pasta was cooked AL dente. *kisses fingers* DELICIOUS. UNI pasta was creamy but not overwhelming. I wish I had the entire dish to myself but I ended up sharing with people. Don't share, if you can help it :p My friend ordered the pad Thai and said it was just okay. Like I said, if you choose dishes from the popular section you've most likely chose a winner. The squid appetizer was tender and delicious as well. Their lychee yuzu martini was great. Service however was lacking. My group of 7 were seated on the 2nd story which seemed to be housing large parties only. When I arrived there was no waitress in sight for a solid 15 minutes. And when she did arrive, she was flustered and unprepared with menus. When we decided what we wanted, it took another chunk of time to order. We weren't in a hurry so we didn't complain at all, but it's something to be mindful of if you are in a time crunch. Seems as if most of the waitresses catered to people downstairs leaving the upstairs group to defend for ourselves. I came here with my mom and her husband. We ordered having high expectations. I ordered Oysters, Pan Fried dumplings, Sushi and cheesecake. The oysters took 15-20 minutes and the pan fried dumplings took 20-25. The Sushi took 20-25 minutes as well and so did the desert. The oysters came in 3s, the dumplings in 2 which were both about an inch and a half, the cheesecake was the size of my index finger! They made us pay $70 for all that, and the best part of the meal was the Chocolate Lava Cake. One sushi I ate had a weird sauce that tasted strong. This was a truly terrible experience. We came on Valentine's Day and our mains took over two hours to come out. We actually had to leave without our mains having come out and based on others' reactions around the restaurant, we were not alone. Other tables got up in the middle and others complained. I do not rate restaurants almost ever but felt compelled here because this was so bad. The food was fine (truly nothing special but decent). They didn't give us knives to cut the starters (including octopus, which is important). I've never left a restaurant before finishing the meal but this was not ok and ruined our valentines. That 4 course dineLA menu looked too good to resist so I didn't hesitate to take a 30 minute trip over here. My only beef with dineLA is that it makes me eat more than I would normally and pay more for it..but I digress Me and the bf both got the scallop carpaccio. The sauce on this was so addicting with a limey sweet sour flavor. For the next course, I got the tuna with uni on top. Good, but it was really tiny...as in I ate it all in one bite..I see why it's not on the regular menu. My bf got the octopus option which definitely was more worth it. The octopus comes in a cute metal dish and was grilled well. The best part of the meal by far was the miso sea bass. Omg so soft and buttery in the texture. Some places dry it out but this one was so moist and i enjoyed every bite. The sauce on it paired so well not too sweet and not too salty. Dessert options weren't great so we got the lava cakes which were good but rich. $49 was a decent deal but I think I'd prefer to just get the sea bass on it's own next time since that was the most impressive item and regularly just $35 anyways. I had a nice experience with delivery/takeout. I ordered garlic, shrimp rice and garlic pasta. Along with that I ordered seaweed veggie and cucumbers salads. The cucumber salad was not delivered. But the seaweed salad was delicious & the perfect umami to accompany my 2 shrimp dishes. My food was plentiful and satisfying for roughly $50.00. I must confess this review contradicts my review on grubhub. I made a classic mistake with my 1st post. I did not stir my food b4 I tasted it. Stirring all they goodies from the bottom made all they difference is the strong garlic flavor is love. I also want to mention that the shrimp was cooked perfectly and still plump. So fresh and so clean! Went on a wed for dine LA. Made reservations on open table and ended up having to change the time to a later time. Valet parking or street parking. Host was very accommodating. Food the chilean sea bass took awhile to come out but its was so good. My favorite was the grilled octopus seasoned and grilled to perfection! Lychee drink was also really good! Everything was fresh! Also they accommodated my dad's long island order with a splash of coke and it wasn't even on the menu. Must come back for more! P.S. Dang I really wanted to like this place, but it was okay. The only thing that really stood out to me was the truffle uni pasta. Everything else wasn't very memorable. The snow crab salad was just a plain salad with shredded crab. The oysters are fine. The cocktails, also not bad. The octopus was fine too an surprisingly I liked the kidney beans a lot. The steak was kind of tough towards the ends of the meat and the center was good. Service wasn't the best. I'd say my water got refilled once. Our waitress must have not liked us at all because she was kind of curt with us throughout the meal and after the meal as we were leaving. It left a mehh experience that made me think I probably don't want to go back. There's comparable food elsewhere to the dishes served here so I'd probably skip this place if I were completely honest. But if this is someone's first time and you're in the area, I'd still give it a try! It's not bad, but service is a bit finicky. read more

Thankful they allowed us to be their last walk in for the night (after having a crazy night at the restaurant). Our server, Melanie, was great. This was our first time here, so making a game time decision on our order wasn't the easiest, but we were very happy with our dinner (the kitchen was closing so we had to put our order in fast).
