I'm struggling to understand how this place is rated so highly. Don't get me wrong it's a pretty decent fish taco but it's not as incredible as their reputation seems to be. The taco is super messy it pretty much falls apart when you eat it. I did like the mango on top and the fish was good but I definitely would not wait in line for this. read more

Was craving some fish tacos and headed over to Kihei to give Coconuts a try. Located upstairs in a strip mall, we easily found a parking spot. Once upstairs, there was a short line to place our order. Once order was placed we grabbed a seat. Tables are casual and bench seating. Order: POG mimosa-a sweet starter while waiting on my shrimp & tacos. Coconut shrimp-6 shrimp served with a Thai Chili Pineapple sauce. Very Good. Fried to perfection with a sweet balanced sauce. Fish tacos-2 tacos on a white corn tortilla and topped with mango salsa. Delicious. A great casual lunch spot; good for families. read more

The fish tacos! That's all you need to know. 17 ingredients. One common response -- "oh my god, these are the best tacos ever!" Mike, the owner and chef came out and brought our order to us! He's friendly and confident in his tacos... and deservedly so! These are definitely the best fish tacos I have ever had! And they're gluten-free, like so many of their menu items (which are clearly marked), so an extra bonus! Overall rating: *****FIVE STARS***** Gluten-free rating: *****FIVE STARS***** read more

Wonderful local spot for fish. Located in a strip mall, the upstairs location had plenty of outdoor seating and really good seafood. My seafood chowder and seared ahi salad were perfect and decent sized. The family loved their food, as well. read more

Five stars for Coconuts fish cafe.. We must have eaten here 3 or 4 times over the course of our 10 day stay. Fast and friendly staff, delicious food, and great atmosphere. We won't hesitate to come back during our next stay. read more

BEST FISH TACOs on the island!! First stop off the plane and last stop before leaving the island. They just happen to be gluten-free. MUST TRY! Light, big chucks of fresh fish, bursting with flavor, and large portions. The ahe poke was also flavorful, fresh and filling. However, Da Kitchen holds my vote for the best ahe poke bowl on the island. However and because of Covid, they move their location across the street from Coconut Fish Cafe (next to Long's) and not sure they carry it anymore. Love the wooden surfboard tables and friendly service. Covid protocols in place. Mask inside. Dining outside only. NOTE: If you order online, you cannot dine outside. read more

My kids said that it was the best fish and chips they've ever had ( and we are from Seattle). We went twice while we were in Maui. I had the fish tacos and they were good! Lots of toppings. I also had the macadamia crusted mahi mahi and it was amazing! We will go back again when back on Maui. read more

The service was 5 stars. Above & beyond kind. But as a local who has had a variety of local fish tacos from all over, these were by far some of the worst. I'm sorry but who on earth mixes mahi and ono together. That was the first red flag. Then the mango salsa was so hard, unripe, and disgusting it was a disgrace. The tacos are wayyyyy too overpriced for the quality and to top it off. Sad how the quality of this place has really degraded. But thank you to the workers for your service and dedication. Anyways, I recommend paia fish market. Cheaper and wayyyyyy better food. read more

After a day of paddle boarding, we stopped here for lunch. An up stairs open space dining area provided a nice casual experience. After waiting in line about 5 minutes, it was our time to order at the register. The wife ordered fish and chips. The fish tacos were touted as their best seller so let's see what then hype is. The daughter, a cheeseburger- why??? Anyway, walking away, I realized I didn't get my tea glass. I walked back and attempted to take a glass from the other register when I was rudely questioned if I had in fact paid for the drink. We'll I did just come from the beach but I didn't think I looked homeless and trying to abscond with a $2 drink. The other register attendant confirmed my purchase and restored my integrity. I took the cup with all the attitude of a Clint Eastwood western stare down. Besides, I just spent $70 on lunch, maybe the $2 tea wasn't worth the offense. Booths, tables, and bar height tops offered plenty of seating. Within 10 minutes our lunch was delivered. The fish tacos looked delicious. After blessing the food, I tried to pick up the taco...not happening. Two tortillas were under the fish and mango. The tortillas were grilled and not playable. My only solution was to use a fork and knife. Who uses a fork to to eat a taco? It was good but not as enjoyable since cutting the taco made a mess. The wife's fish and chips were really tasty. Overall, it was good. I probably would not come back since there are so many other places to eat that get great reviews. It would be a good place to stop if your in the area. Bon appetit Yelps. read more

I was seriously craving some coconut shrimp and found this place via a Google search. We were staying at the Andaz and they offer complimentary transportation within a 1 mile radius. The farthest they will take you is to the Red Line boat ramp and coconuts in Kihei, is just a short walk away. It is located at the top of a strip mall, it's very casual and no frills. We popped in for a lunch of coconut shrimp and chips and fish and chips and both meals were really good. read more

This restaurant was really close to our hotel so we came by on our last night in Maui. Got there right at dinner time so there was a bit of a line to order. You order at the counter first, and then find a seat. The restaurant is big so there was no issue finding a spot. The cashier explained that they're known for their fish tacos so I ordered that while my bf got their seafood pasta with white sauce (you can choose between red and white). The cashier told us it'll take about 20 minutes for our order to come out, understandable since it was busy and I appreciated her telling us an estimate. The fish tacos were pretty good, a little pricy at $14 for 2 big tacos with no sides or anything. I'm also not a fan of tacos being so unnecessarily filled with toppings that it makes it difficult to eat folded. As much as I enjoyed the amount of veggies, tomatoes, and pineapples that came with my tacos, I had to take a bunch out so that I could eat it folded with my hands. It's definitely a messy meal and I could see a lot people struggling to eat it. I did love the generous portion of the fish in both the tacos and seafood pasta. They definitely did not skimp out on them. The pasta was really good and very cheesy, and it also came with a side of a big garlic bread. The restaurant is a bit on the pricy side, for being a counter service spot, but the fact that they give you a lot of seafood made up for it. Our cashier also mentioned that they have a location in Cupertino so I'll have to check it out when I'm back home. read more

Yes! I've been looking for authentic seafood on the island of Maui all week long and I finally found it here at Coconuts! Their coconut crispy shrimp and macadamia crusted mahi mahi are to die for! We gobbled our food up and wished we had ordered more shrimp! There was no wait time when we arrived and there was plenty of outdoor seating. The indoor seating was still closed due to covid. The service was friendly and the food was ready quickly! I definitely recommend stopping by when you're in town! This was a nice place to go after our Molokini snorkel trip got cut short due to a near drowning (luckily we pulled him up and resuscitated him). Just a short drive from Maalaea Harbor heading towards the Wailea side, it was worth the trip for this special treat. The food portions were generous, poke was excellent. Later in the week, other family members in our group kept talking about the food from Coconuts Fish cafe, and luckily one of them went there to bring back food to us in Kaanapali. I know most of us tourists only have a handful of lunch/dinner slots to select where to eat, but I would say Coconuts Fish Cafe should at least be in one of those slots! read more

If I lived on the island, I'd eat here all the time. It's a quaint little place but plenty of tables on them since and many on the outside as well. The woman at the walk up counter was so friendly and helpful!! She recommended a few of their more famous dishes and of course I had to try them. I ordered the two fish tacos, which are huge!! I was stuffed. The fish was cooked perfectly and the season on them was delicious. Topped with coleslaw and mangos. I wouldn't want them any other way. My companion has the fish and chips. She really enjoyed it too. If you're in the area, eat here! read more

We came here pretty close to closing for take out and heard that Coconut's was known for their fish tacos so we got an order of fish tacos and fish and chips. We did not wait too long and learned that there used to be a location in Sacramento (which is super close to my college) but had closed recently. The total of the takeout was $30 which is pretty fair, but I did not really think the dishes were as special as I expected. Due to the hype, I thought it would be a life-changing dish, but I thought it was overall good, but nothing more. The fish in both items were just average and we found better fish tacos at other food trucks along the streets. read more

Excellent mahi mahi over brown rice. It's still as good as several years ago. Would highly recommend it. Service was great.

I was a bit hesitant to try Coconuts since it's a chain and there's a location in the Bay Area, but their fish tacos ended up being one of my favorite meals during my week long stay in Maui! Their tacos boast 17 ingredients, including coleslaw, cheese, and tomato salsa, but what really makes their tacos stand out is the fresh mango salsa. At 2/$14, it may seem a bit pricy, but the tacos are huge and they do not skimp on the fish or toppings! We tried four other fish tacos on the island and none of them were as tasty as these. Highly recommend ordering a side of their special South of the Border sauce, which tastes like a smoky chipotle aioli. It went well with the fish tacos as well as the calamari and fries. The calamari was tender and had a nice thin crisp breading that highlighted the seafood. We also ordered a side of ahi poke, and while it was fresh, the presentation and taste were not very memorable. Once you place your order at the counter, they'll assign you a table and bring your food out to you. They have surfboard themed tables and during covid, they've added extra tables and chairs outside. Limited indoor seating. Due to the convenient location in Azeka Mall, and the fact that we fell in love with the fish tacos, we came here a second time during our trip, which for me makes them a winner! read more

I think we caught them on a bad night as they were short staffed. The guy working the counter was working hard doing the best he could. Two stars because there was good service and it was somewhat clean. Dang! Another tourist trap! And I fell for it. Everyone recommended this place. Best fish tacos ever? No way. We found the fish dry and it relied on the sauce to give it any flavor. It was a huge disappointment. And, it costed a lot. For good food, hit up local reknown places like Da Kitchen, 808 Deli, and 65 Marcket. Any where but here. Maybe Paia Fish Market is better? read more

I visit Maui every year and always look forward to the fish tacos from Coconut's, but this time, several things were different - most importantly, the quality of the food. To start, the person who took our order at the counter seemed visibly disappointed when I tipped 15%. The entire transaction took less than two minutes, and given the minimal time and effort required, I felt the tip was fair. As for the food, the tacos had only a few bites of fish, which were chewy and didn't taste fresh. We also tried the Ahi over rice at their other location, and once again, the fish was stringy and lacked freshness. While we were dining, I overheard another customer mention that the place had changed ownership, and it's just not the same. I couldn't agree more! read more

Fish tacos: oh how I love thee. The fresh, warm tortilla shell. The rich and sweet mango and cabbage slaw. The grilled to perfection chunks of seasoned mahi mahi and ono. We have tried this fish and multiple places around the island but keep coming back to Coconuts and the Azeka location specifically. An order is two large tacos and usually enough to leave most adults very full. My wife and I split one order and get coconut shrimp as a side. My keikis are fond of the local fish plate and get ono with lemon butter and brown rice. Their plate comes with extra slaw and I've been known to scavenge for a few more yummy bites. read more

Sorry Coconuts, not a fan! It may be ok for visitors, but we live here and know better. Overpriced. The counter was trying to sell us on the Hawaiian Sun drinks for $3 each. HOT TIP: I can get a 6-pack at WalMart for $3. I guess I just didn't like the vibe that they were trying to convince us that everything was "authentic" and "Hawaiian". I get that its in Kihei, but really? How much of these ingredients did you grab from Costco. I think I would have enjoyed the experience more if they weren't trying to convince my family that they were SOOOO Hawaiian, especially when it the meal was mediocre. I don't think we'll be back at Coconuts, but maybe it was just a timing or location thing. Can't be sure. read more

They call them the famous fish tacos for a reason! The fish is so well seasoned and flavorful! They're piled high with delicious salsas, coleslaw, and a delicious sauce. Honestly I had to consume some of the taco filling with a fork before I was actually able to eat it like a taco. Don't be fooled when you see that the tacos only come with two tacos...this is a LOT of food! I made the mistake of adding a side of fries with my tacos and could barely make a dent in my fries. Servers were so friendly and kind during our minimal interaction. The woman working the counter could tell we were new and kindly explained a few things on the menu to us!
