Upon entering, I noticed a short Caucasian man near the Alabama Street entrance. At first, he looked like a regular shopper, but I quickly recognized him as the owner from previous store publications. What unsettled me immediately was seeing him peering into my Target bag, as if trying to assess what I had purchased. Perhaps he didn't realize I was watching him while he was watching me. As I walked through the store, the sense of being surveilled intensified. Every time I turned around, the owner was directly behind me. I also observed him on the phone, and shortly after, a man in a yellow shirt and khaki pants began following me as well. When I moved, he moved. When I paused, he pretended to rearrange items on the shelf. The behavior was blatantly obvious and deeply uncomfortable. To ensure I wasn't imagining things, I intentionally changed directions yet both men continued mirroring my movements. When I finally confronted one of them and asked, "Sir, are you following me?" he nervously replied, "No, no, no," even though the truth was painfully clear. This message is directed to the owner: Racial profiling your customers is unacceptable, demeaning, and profoundly unprofessional. I have patronized this store many times, and to be treated this way is not only insulting it is disappointing beyond words. PS: People of color spend money too.

Some cute things here and there that are out of my budget. The store is a complete maze and they even have a map when you walk in. Wish the layout was better. I did find a funny book. I first learned about Onata while attending an art market in Houston, where the owners were there selling the candles. The amazing smells of the candles quickly drew me in, and I couldn't leave without buying one of their travel sized candles. I went for the "Isra" scent, and I cannot speak highly enough of it! The owner explained to me that she had gone through trial and error, finding fragrances that are strong enough to fill your home, but gentle enough to not cause headaches or migraines. She was right -- this small candle has filled my office with a sweet, cozy smell for days and no headaches (for once!). I love that they are made entirely of soy and have all-cotton wicks, making them a more natural alternative to what you buy at a store. I am already planning on when I can stop by their shop again to buy a bigger size of the "Isra" and other choices they had available! Support small businesses and support Onata!

Nothing like the mean girl vibe you sometimes encounter in other stores. Every time I shop here I am greeted with real smiles and helpful service. Service is seamless and hassle free. The staff goes out of their way to make the experience pleasant. Shopping for these kinds of products should be enjoyable, and this team truly makes it that way. The company should take note of how this store assembles its team. Other locations could learn from them and weed out the slackers with poor attitudes. I do not cringe walking into this store. In fact I look forward to visiting just to see this great team again. Highly recommend this location if you want friendly service and an enjoyable shopping experience!

I did place my order online and their system to make your purchase is very easy. I opted to pick up my online order at the store. I was immediately greeted and directed to where I could pick up my online order. This was a simplified process. I decided to get another scent that I did not order online, as well as trade out one that I had ordered online for something I liked better. They worked with me and were so gracious in allowing me to make my trade out, and I appreciated it. There was a scent that I wanted that this location ran out of, they were kind enough to call the neighboring store for assistance (their Rice Village location) just minutes away. The Rice Village location had what I needed and then some! Something that really impressed me about the Rice Village team was how friendly and warm they were! Their customer service was on 10! Cudos to them! Over all a great experience! Of course, I will be back.
