UPDATE: Thank you for the clarification Patrick. I do…read morerealize I jumped quickly to my judgement and for that I apologize. Again, thank you for the response and I am now a bit more open to visiting your shop. I stopped by to look for a goat milk soap for my mom. The two men working at the register suddenly stood up and were on high alert. Immediately my friend and I felt like we were being watched. They had a good selection of soaps which led me to pick up a honey bar of soap. Seconds after, the young caucasian man told me he could hold it for me in the front. Mind you I had no bags in my hands and neither of us were hiding. If I could give it 0 stars I would. I didn't walk in to be racially profiled or observed like some wild animal.

You have to find some nearby street parking and walk over. I had a perm bracelet from another place that needed to be shortened. I sent an email inquiry to ask if they provide this service before going there (I've gone to another place where they refused to work on anything that wasn't purchased from them so I wanted to be sure before heading out of my way). The email reply confirmed that they do provide this and that it would be $15. I made an appointment online and selected what I needed done. The website showed that it would only be $10 for a single loop and that it required pre-payment. So I paid and headed to my appointment. When I arrived, I told them I was here to have my bracelet shortened and the lady working there told me it would cost $25. I explained that I made an appt and pre-paid it already. She replied that it was just the deposit, not the total cost of the service. It was not clear during the booking that it was a deposit only but fine (maybe it would have been obvious if I had selected something way more expensive and being charged $10 instead). This was fine since the deposit gets applied at the end anyway. I also explained that I have an email reply saying it would cost $15 so I don't know where the $25 came from. She hesitantly agreed that she would only charge me $15 instead. I paid for the $5 difference at the end of the appointment. The inconsistency in the pricing (with additional confusion on appt deposit) is frustrating. I like having a clear idea of what I'm paying without any surprises. The work itself was fine. She clipped off my bracelet, took the old loop off, clipped off the extra length and zapped a new loop on. I'm happy with the end result.

I was so excited when my sister and I found this boutique. We both bought several items, and I…read morepurchased a ring for $334 after taxes. The customer service was great--until I needed help. Four days after purchasing the ring, the stone fell out during normal wear. A ring at that price should last much longer than four days. At that point, I no longer trusted the quality of their jewelry, which is why I requested a refund, not an exchange. Why would I exchange it for another ring if I had already lost confidence in their products? Instead of taking accountability, I was given the runaround. I was told people were on vacation and someone would call me when they returned. They're all back now, and I still haven't received a single phone call. When I told them my bank advised me to return the ring as part of the dispute process, they began closing the store earlier than their posted hours, making it impossible for me to return it after work. Then they told me they would never accept the ring back, that "that's not how banks work," and that I would never win my dispute. The employee I spoke with was incredibly dismissive and even implied that because I didn't buy an expensive ring, I shouldn't expect more. $334 is not cheap, and no customer should be made to feel like they're asking too much when a product breaks after only four days. I was also told their stones are not glued in, yet when mine fell out there was clearly adhesive on the setting. Rather than acknowledging a possible defect, they denied responsibility. The broken ring was disappointing, but the way I was treated was worse. A business should stand behind its products and treat customers with respect. Unfortunately, that wasn't my experience.

So far, Chloe Dao is my favorite fashion designer in Houston. Although familiar with the brand for…read moreyears, I became more acquainted with the brand's sophisticated style and offerings while visiting the old location on Kirby in the West Village during the height of the pandemic. Some of the designs are minimal and some are more complex and elaborate (borderline maximalist). I love purses and tote bags, so the Silver Geo Tote Bag (the one pictured) really appealed to me because it doubles as both a purse and tote. The silver tint, combined with the futuristic shapes (squares, circles, rectangles) made for a unique, timeless look. While shopping at the old Kirby location, I would also occasionally purchase face masks. Dao's designs, as usual, were just incredible. Regarding the boutique, what I really love is the idea that this boutique could exist anywhere - New York, California, Chicago or Houston. Hopefully the new location on Shepherd captures the same excellence and good vibes of the old West University location. I always found service at the boutique to be really good and helpful. And value-wise, pricing is legit and reasonable in my experience. For me, this is one of the top boutiques, not only in Houston, but the country.
