1st visit and totally enjoyed the Gardens they have a senior ticket gets you into the rainforest and aquarium. Aquarium has many exhibits and an area to pet a stingray.

We had an amazing time. We went to only the aquarium pyramid I have to take a point away because it's so expensive. It's not that large so it's very hard to justify the $160 price tag for a family five, one of whom is a baby. The grounds are gorgeous and the aquarium is fun. I just don't know if I would be back for that price.

This is a must visit one time is good enough kind of place for families with children of all ages! Highly recommend finding a discount code online - tickets at the door is pricier. We came on a Sunday following a Monday holiday, so luckily it was not even busy. Barely any lines to any of the attractions. Get the ONE DAY PASS. It's worth it. It covers everything you need to stay busy for Sunday hours 10-4pm! Wear appropriate walking shoes and carry light. There are stairs and elevators. Moody Gardens is cashless. We ate the one restaurant Garden and it was ok. Buffet 6/10 and chicken wrap 6/10. It was ok. The patio seating was closed due to shortage of staff... boo. Park as close as you can to the visitor center entrance. It's free!

1/3/2026: We visited the Shivers Ice Sculpture exhibit. Staff were all friendly, grounds were clean, parking was fairly easy to find, and the area is marked pretty well to show you where to go. I was impressed with the ice sculptures. The amount of work was pretty amazing. It was just freaking cold! 9 degrees, no lie! They give you a parka to wear, but you need to bring your own gloves, scarf, and cap. That is the only thing that saved me. I think we spent MAYBE 25 minutes in there. So, doing the math, a $30 ticket basically breaks down to $1.25 per minute. That's kind of expensive, in my book, but I see how much work these sculptures took, so it's easy to see why they charge the amount they do. It is a little dark inside and the cooling system is a little noisy.

Breaking my review up into 2 parts. --- The resort itself Love it! It's so nice to visit here and just park and not have to leave again, unless you want to. There's everything you could want here, even beach, if you go over to palm beach. Very clean, staff is always nice. It is pet friendly, if you need it. That may be my only complaint here, I don't like to vacation with other peoples animals - but to each his/her own. Part 2 ---- We came for wine festival (2nd year). I love wine festival and am already looking forward to next year! It's definitely worth the price to get all 3 days and stay on premises. The welcome reception and Bourbon tasting could have had more options, especially if you're going to call it a "tasting" rather than a sample. But overall, it's a fun experience and we met tons of great people (and a great penguin too!)

Ridiculously pricey. $260, as I recall, for 2 adults (one a senior), and 3 children under 10 for the aquarium and rain forest. The venue was great, however, and we all had a fun time. Excellent exhibits at the aquarium. Very well done. Rain forest was worthwhile too, but nothing special in my opinion.

While in Galveston, we went to Moody Gardens pyramids to see the Aquarium and the Rain Forest. My grandchildren loved both places. The inside of both pyramids have thoughtful designs and are structured really well. In the aquarium, the educational pieces (e.g. fake sponges where children are encouraged to touch and learn more about them) engaged my granddaughter throughout the experience. But the shinning moment for her was seeing the seals. And don't think I didn't leave there without having to buy her a stuffed seal, because yes that happened too. I personally appreciated the Rain Forest, especially some of the meaningful messages displayed as you enter the Rain Forest. They're honest and profound.

Came here for the first time since I was a kid. This is the kind of place you can appreciate even more as an adult. I'm sure kids love it too, but as a lover of fish, animals, and plants- this place is out of this world. We came right when they opened, which I would recommend so you can really see everything and move through without getting held up. It took us about 25 min with not a lot of people to get through the aquarium and another 20 to get through the rainforest. We really enjoyed our time and got to see things that really impressed us. All the staff were really friendly and knowledgeable as well. Would definitely come back again, it's worth it!!

This was my first time coming to Moody Gardens since I moved here 3 years ago and I loved it! My partner and I came to the IceLand and it was incredible! 18 million pounds of ice; can you believe that? They provide huge coats for you so it's not impossible to be comfortable as you walk around in -9 degrees. All of the sculptures were super neat and so well constructed. They have an ice bar inside that we didn't particularly love; the drinks are not very good and the service was extremely slow. I ended up switching out my drink for a shot of baileys; grateful they let me do that! Such a great time. Will for sure come back next year!

Great experience with many things to see and do but lots of walking. Glad to see that the disabled are given a chance to work and prove themselves here. Bought 2 day passes. Saw a couple of the 3D shows, the rainforest, the aquarium, and the museum. The water park was closed. Very nice but pricey especially for older adults. Lots of parking. Many families with kids. Beautiful displays. Great staff. Most restaurants and shops were closed indoors and this is why only 4 stars after paying so much. Worth maybe one visit and maybe during the holiday season just to experience the lights and sounds.

Christmas time is the best time to visit. We spent all day and took full advantage of the day pass.

Bought the tickets to get access to the rainforest and aquarium pyramids for $56. As my friend and I were purchasing the tickets, we saw the 4d movie nearby, and we were interested in checking it out until we saw the price and heard how long the running time was. They charge $14 for a 12 minute show. Not worth it in my opinion! We started off in the rainforest pyramid, and it was such a surreal experience. It was cool to see everything from up top and then to end at the bottom. I was just admiring all the animal and plant life- throughout the exhibit, they have information boards about the specific species, which was super neat. Even got to see INSECTSSSS which were gross but intriguing. The aquarium pyramid was beautiful! It was nice and cool (temperature wise) compared to the rainforest pyramid. Viewing the jellyfish in the dark was awesome! They looked so pretty in the different colors of light. Spent a lot of time viewing the penguins and the seals + sea lions. It's entertaining to see them dive and swim around in the waters. The aquarium felt more packed than the rainforest, so once we got to the stingray station, it was packed with barely any space to move. I was still able to touch a stingray though! One of my favorite parts of the whole exhibit was the tunnel aquarium at the end. Although it was busy, there were still more than enough parking spots. Parking is free! Overall, the experience was totally worth it.

Ask the Community - Moody Gardens

Is any of the pyramids pet friendly?

Let's can be on the grounds when properly leashed (pick up the poo!) but are not permitted in the buildings or pyramids.

Can you do Moody Goardens in one day?

Yes! It is very doable. The only time you couldn't do it in one day is if you decide to do the water parks which is only during warm season (summer etc).

If you do just one part of Moody Gardens which would you recommend?

Either the rainforest or the aquarium are good. I would choose which to do based on what your family enjoys more. The rainforest is more of a close up experience with many different animals. The aquarium is pretty typical of all aquariums but if you… Read more

The building was once the Old Santa Fe Union Station that is now the Railroad Museum. It's truly a treasure house full of railroad memorabilia. The unique railroad line dinnerware used in dining cars was a highlight for me. I especially liked the Traveler, Centenary, and Pullman Verda Green patterns. The "Ghosts of Travelers Past" figures are cool to see as you're walking through the exhibits. There are outdoor buildings and train cars set up with various exhibits throughout the rail yard. I think my favorite part of the visit was walking through the Illinois Central Post Office Car, Pullman Sleeper Car Glen Fee, New York Central Bonnie Brook, and The Southern Diner. There's a rail yard map that makes it appear as if all the train cars are open. In reality, some of the cars are only visible from the outside with good description markers about the train compartment. To be honest, it probably would have taken too long to walk inside each and every one of them. It's a lot to see. A train buff may want to spend half a day here. There's a gift shop as well as seasonal events such as the Polar Express. Group events can also be arranged for sleepovers, weddings, and other occasions. I believe it's also a stop on a few of the Galveston ghost tours. The museum does a great job of taking you back in time to the early 1900s. The music in the rail yard was a treat. I love that "Voodoo Train" song! It's worth a visit. It's even more worth it for active duty or veterans who get 1 free ticket for each service member. Check it out when in the historical district of Galveston.

It was nicely laid out and you could walk up and buy a ticket with a self guided audio tour of the place that included historical tid bits about the family and what was happening in the area at the time they lived in it. They apparently have private tours of the upstairs/attic areas but those you have to book and pay for in advance. I enjoyed the audio tour and even bought a few items at the quite spacious gift store! At times I felt like I was the only one in the house because it was probably a non tourist heavy day. You can easily park on the street and walk in to buy a ticket the day of...well at least on the day I was there!

Being called…read morethe Bishop's Palace, we thought we would learn about this building's use as the Bishop's Palace. Instead we learn almost exclusively about the Gresham family and how the house was before the Bishop lived there. The stained glass of St Therese of Lisieux and the chapel room are beautiful, but you can see that on the self guided tour. You won't hear much about them at all from the guided tour. They had no idea why the bishop chose this saint for the glass, and only explained that it was added after the previous glass blew out. When in the chapel, the discussion is about what it looked like before the bishop lived there. It seems that the beautiful decorations in the chapel and its use are important and likely more entertaining than knowing a daughter lived there and had some stuff in the room. Again, if you want to hear about the Gresham family, then this is a good tour for you. If you want to hear about what the Bishop's time was like here, you'll be out of luck. I guess they continue to use the name Bishop's Palace as a bait and switch to get attendance bc this really should be called the Gresham House.

The Ocean Star is a good example of an offshore jack-up (not to be confused with jacked-up) oil drilling rig. It operated in the Gulf between 1969 and 1984. Let's just say that offshore drilling has come a long way since that time. It became a museum in 1997 after it was retired. It's now on display for all to see. It also appears to be a wildlife zone. There are many different kinds of seabirds that live or sunbathe there. I'm sure the fish love it, too. I'd say the only con is that the outdoor platform smells and looks like an unkept birdcage. I'm sure that they wash it down every now and then, but there's really no way to keep the flock of birds away from it without ruining the outdoor experience. Not even the fake owls. Just be prepared, and watch where you walk. The good news is that there are public restrooms on the rig where you can wash your hands after touching the platform rails. Other than that, it was a cool learning experience. A great place for kids to learn about underwater landscapes and engineering. It educates all ages on how life really is on an oil drilling rig. It's a lot bigger than I thought. There are 3 levels of displays as well as a couple of outdoor platforms. You'll also learn about the dangers and safety procedures of running an offshore rig. It's all very interesting. It was worth the admission fee. Military & Seniors get a $3 discount. It's located off of Pier 20 past Katie's Seafood House, and within walking distance of the Strand Historic District. It took about an hour to go through the museum. It may take a little longer with the audio guide. It was cool to see the pelicans and seagulls sunbathing under the rig. You might even spot a few dolphins here and there. It was a fun morning!
