Love love love Anvil Cards! This little local Houston shop is a gem in this big city. With super cute and creative cards, some related to Houston (Whataburger, Beyoncé, the skyline) and Texas in general (Blue Bell, the Alamo), you will be able to find a add for pretty much any occasion. They also have shirts, notepads, posters, stickers and, my personal favorite, super duper cool pins (Grimace from McDonald's, LaCroix and flying burgers). It's really refreshing to see these cute creative shops still around town!

Amazing cards, pins and candles!! I got a really cute coffee scented candle that I absolutely love. The worker is so sweet and he answered all of our questions very nicely. It's great for getting souvenirs and other cards to send friends and family. 100% recommend.

This shop is THE best, most Houston, original card & gift shop in town. JC's designs are witty and smack of Houston & Texas.

Upon entering, I noticed a short Caucasian man near the Alabama Street entrance. At first, he looked like a regular shopper, but I quickly recognized him as the owner from previous store publications. What unsettled me immediately was seeing him peering into my Target bag, as if trying to assess what I had purchased. Perhaps he didn't realize I was watching him while he was watching me. As I walked through the store, the sense of being surveilled intensified. Every time I turned around, the owner was directly behind me. I also observed him on the phone, and shortly after, a man in a yellow shirt and khaki pants began following me as well. When I moved, he moved. When I paused, he pretended to rearrange items on the shelf. The behavior was blatantly obvious and deeply uncomfortable. To ensure I wasn't imagining things, I intentionally changed directions yet both men continued mirroring my movements. When I finally confronted one of them and asked, "Sir, are you following me?" he nervously replied, "No, no, no," even though the truth was painfully clear. This message is directed to the owner: Racial profiling your customers is unacceptable, demeaning, and profoundly unprofessional. I have patronized this store many times, and to be treated this way is not only insulting it is disappointing beyond words. PS: People of color spend money too.

I first learned about Onata while attending an art market in Houston, where the owners were there selling the candles. The amazing smells of the candles quickly drew me in, and I couldn't leave without buying one of their travel sized candles. I went for the "Isra" scent, and I cannot speak highly enough of it! The owner explained to me that she had gone through trial and error, finding fragrances that are strong enough to fill your home, but gentle enough to not cause headaches or migraines. She was right -- this small candle has filled my office with a sweet, cozy smell for days and no headaches (for once!). I love that they are made entirely of soy and have all-cotton wicks, making them a more natural alternative to what you buy at a store. I am already planning on when I can stop by their shop again to buy a bigger size of the "Isra" and other choices they had available! Support small businesses and support Onata!
