Bering's is known for high quality, as well as, hard to find items! I have been shopping at the Bissonnet/Weslayan location for years! You can get cleaning products, keys made, children's clothing, books, toys, accessories, fine chocolates, order invitations/stationary, buy plasticware; plates, silverware, napkins, cookware, glasses, etc etc etc On this occasion I stopped in for a few specific items that I needed for the dinner party I was hosting. I sincerely wished that I had gotten the name of the wonderful man, who was working at Bering's and who immediately began helping me find what I needed to buy. He literally walked me around, asking others who also worked there, where to find these items. Of course we ended up in the right section with a multitude of selections which I truly appreciated. I found what I needed and I was a very happy customer! This person's excellent professional service was extremely appreciated. Next time I'm at Bering's I will try to find him, so I can edit this review and add his name so he gets recognized for his over-the-top service!!! read more

Wonderful and pretty cool place! I was searching for new shopping places around Katy and this Uptown location caught my eye. It was worth the 42 min drive. Chances are you will find an answer to your search regardless if your mission is garden supply, kitchenwares, stationery, chocolate, or fine gifts. I came home on my first stop with the 2 gal. Garden sprayer I needed, a watering bucket, some chocolate that I didn't need, bar cherries for making olde fashioned and ribbon candy. read more

This spot feels like a relic of department stores past. I don't necessarily mean that in a bad way, it's moreso to explain that from the in house gift shop to the hardware section to the clothing and kitchen sections to the coffee shop, with a sales employee in each section, I was thrown back to the days of department store popularity. While I didn't ask the staff any questions during my trip, I was greeted, and asked if I needed help by several different individuals. To be honest, ADHD and these types of shops may not mix. One minute I found myself grabbing the furniture polish on my list, and the next I've spontaneously found a random book for a friend. Two minutes later I'm looking at sprinkler heads, purchasing corner brackets and deciding if I should replace the hardware in our kitchen. I guess it's their win because I left with $44 worth of product in hand. To be fair, I've already used 3 of the wood products on a vintage dining table we recently acquired, and they worked beautifully so so far so good. I know a few people who would love this place. Amazing store, layout, and selection of items. Definitely on the pricier side. It has such a nostalgic atmosphere inside that you almost forget you are still in Houston. But the employees are some of the laziest people I have encountered in any store. I was checking out with several rolls of gift wrapping paper, and I mentioned that I was also picking up an online order. All five employees in the registers started pointing at each other trying to decide whose turn it was to walk to the back and fetch my order, no one wanted to do it. And mind you, I was the only customer in the checkout line at the time. Finally, I got my order and thanked them, ready to head to the exit, and not a single one of these five ladies said "Thank you", "Have a nice day" or anything. They were too busy gossiping about some coworker. All in all, it's a cool place, but I hope you get better customer service than I did. read more

This is a rather adorable hardware store where I had a couple of bad customer service experiences a few years ago, but lately it seems like they have refreshed their staff and have been doing pretty well. This store is nice for alot of reasons. First off if you need a gift they have something for anyone and I mean anyone. From your fancy schmancy person who probably has everything, to someone who you just need to get a token of appreciation for such as a teacher or a bridal consultant. Prices also run from reasonably priced.....to....OH MY GOD that costs what? Are they kidding? Yes...this places goes from the kinda haves to the haves but not the have nots. Berings, although a lovely store is not for all people. It is only for those more well to do Houstonians. I knew I was way out of my league when I saw a $299.00 pillow. Cultural diversity was also not very apparent here unless you count the people that were workers. I was able to purchase 2 very cute wallets and a small hand bag as appreciation gifts for my daughters wedding coordinators and the venue's representative at a reasonable price. When the lady handing my transaction asked me if I would like them gift wrapped I said sure thinking it was complimentary when it ended up being $6.99 for each gift. That I think is just ridiculous. So the 3 stars is really for the fact that they have totally out priced not just the average person but the above average person who I can only think that they do not want in their store. Charging for gift wrapping when they already over charge on the merchandise they have in the store. And least we not forget that lack of welcoming of cultural diversity of the public. Pretty much the only color you will find here is white unless you are ordering a coffee....not the way of the world Berings. read more

When I told by a colleague to go by this hardware store, I would have never in a million years thought i would see what I saw. First of all, this place is no ordinary hardware store. For me starting with the Big Sign out front and the many cars in the parking lot; I knew something was not like other hardware stores that I've been too. Secondly, when I walked in I was blown away by the variety of products and services in side. From furniture to gift items; from candy and nuts different varieties of coffee (more than 10). I went further and there was stationary, greeting cards and invitations. I saw pots, pans and other small kitchen wares. I guess what else I saw at the hardware store? come on guess? I have two kids and was able to get only one yeti rambler on the yeti site (due to color preference) but my other daughter wanted purple (which yeti didn't have) so I moved heaven and earth to find the purple yeti at Bering's. Even paid $15 shipping. But Bering's reached out days later to tell me they had no purple yetis in stock, after confirming. Now I have to get another and pay shipping again. We LOVE Bering's! The staff is so friendly and knowledgeable! The prices are higher than at the big box hardware stores, but the service is courteous, personal, and most importantly, available. We are able to find items that we are unable to find anywhere else (Clorox pens, Two-prong Cork Puller, etc.) When we were unable to find propane canisters for our BBQ Grill before Hurricane Harvey, we found exactly what we needed at Bering's. I went in for a specific item I knew they would have, but oddly I wasn't able to find , but that's ok because I found a whole lot more I didn't know I was looking for. This store added a children's clothing department like on Westheimer which wasn't here last time I came. Such beautiful giftware, glass, crystal and china, chocolates, sauces, salsas, great cookware, knives, all top of the line items.... most anything purchased from Bering's is gift worthy or just keep it for yourself...I never have umderstood why Bering's isn't in The Woodlands, but it sure would be nice.. read more

I go to Berings when I want to get good quality hardware and/or I want to talk with someone who is knowledgable about the hardware. It is somewhat more expensive than the big box hardware stores, but the hardware is usually of good quality, not the cheapest thing you can buy like the big box stores. Additionally, you can usually find a store employee to help you, unlike the big box stores where you have to hunt somebody down for help. These people usually know their merchandise and try to be helpful. read more

Well Julie from Beings, I'm pretty shocked and amazed. I had vowed to never set foot in a Bering's ever again, then today I literally myself right there in the parking lot. The traffic was a nightmare anyway so I decided to go inside and see how this would all play out. I had no receipt, no copy of the yelp review nor did I have your response and I didn't even know your name. I didn't even have my wallet. With that Nothing Burger, I located the managers office and marched right upstairs asks presented myself to the receptionist person. I explained to her what had happened a year ago. I told her that I had gotten a response from somebody somewhere, assuring me that was not within their scope of approved customer service responses on returns. Instead of getting the boot, which is what I expected, sale actually went into yelp, found my review and found your response. Initiative is gods gift is it not, Julie? And it didn't stop there. Just as I thought she was going to turn the whole matter over to you at corporate, she thought better if it and decided to get the manager. This time, instead of mean, abrupt, uncaring Walt, I had the pleasure of meeting Leslie. Even though she was still at lunch, she walked e downstairs. Realizing I didn't have a receipt, once I described the flickering candle, she was able to pin the correct department. She took me to the head cashier, stood in line with me. When our turn cane up, she simply instructed the casket to issue me a gift card in the amount of $25. (I had agreed to this resolution. It was much easier than having to raid the till for a cash payout) What happened in the end is what I knew would happen. I spent that entire $25 on my way out of the Store. Haha. So I chased this $25 for over a year. I posted the story on Facebook, LinkedIn and Yelp. I personally told the story to dozens of people. So who won? Nobody. Walt the manager was not up to the cultural muster so he was given the old heave Ho. I have exhausted myself carrying around my grudge against Berings got over a year. Then I just got a gift card at the End for $25. So my time is with more than that $25. It was a lose lose. The only reason it was so easy to correct, was because finally I was able to plead my case to a rational employee. In the end, it was an easy call for you and then Leslie because it was clearly about doing the right thing. read more

Bering's is a favorite shop and I love the fact that they regularly send out 20% off coupons if you sign up for their mailing list. The coupons make it a little easier to bear their high-ish prices. Some of the things I regularly buy at Bering's are their: custom ground coffees (Southern Pecan!), candles (Voluspa, Agraria and Trapp) and stationery (cute personalized notepads). As other reviewers have noted, they have a large hardware section so you can bring your man and browse without getting a lot of complaints from him. I go here mainly for hardware type items (bulbs, etc.) and specialty kitchen and gift items, as well as occasional key copies. It's close and convenient to me, so I can get in and out easily. I've been able find some great things like microwave omelet containers that I couldn't find elsewhere. Also, they have a lot of fancy crystal, china and unique frames and figurines that you'd have to go to Events or the Galleria to get. Also, they have many random things: coffee, candy, pet food and supplies, etc. It's all pretty expensive, but you could spend hours looking around if you wanted too. My two cents is it's really expensive. Even the hardware is extremely marked up. When I know what I need in advance, I order on Amazon for a fraction of the price. Also, I've never had very good service there. Once, two people tried to help me find a bulb and said they didn't have it, but I found it a few moments later after looking carefully. Today, three men were around the aisle and no one greeted me or asked if I needed help. That's my usual experience. Bering's is a unique store that masquerades as a Hardware store but has so much more to offer inside. If you do have a hardware/garden issue, there are experts here who can solve your problem and offer products or ideas. However, Bering's has so many other unique departments. There is a stationary department where I ordered my wedding invitations. There is a gorgeous gift shop where I registered for my wedding. The gift shop has all sorts of wonderful brands, including Nambe and Aram. There is also a Wilton Armetale line that is unique to Texas with Lone Star state, Longhorn and other state college designs. In the store there is a cookbook section, home decor, and Texas-themed aprons, oven mitts, and salt and pepper shakers. Bering's also has extensive cookware, kitchen gadgets, water bottles, travel bags, wine accessories, utensils, and other household items. There is a children's clothing section as well. The best part though may be the candy/coffee area. There are chocolates, bulk candies, flavored coffees, and lots of samples. There are also unique gourmet food items around this section, including hard-to-find items like Tabasco Teriyaki sauce. Sometimes, you will find tamale samples across from the coffee samples in a demo. When I visited last weekend, I found the nostalgia candy endcap and bought some cow tales for cheap. This is a fun place to treasure hunt in town, in an easily accessible location. read more

This place is an adventure for anyone. It's one of those stores you can go to kill a few hours, but most likely you will find a very specific item you need and can't get anywhere else. For example, my wife works in a culinary retail store and says she always sends clients here when they don't have what they're looking for. I know it's punishable by death for saying, but the first thing I thought on my first visit the other day was it's like an upscale Walmart (cringe), but to my defence I mean as far as variety of products, in an all-in-one-place sort of way; ok, as I back-pedal, I will say I felt like I was going through petite versions of bed bath and beyond, Starbucks, ace hardware, hallmark, crate and barrel, all together. Sensory overload, for adults and children. I knew as soon as I walked in I was in trouble. Hide my wallet. But my brain was too late for my eyes. Even with a baby we still managed to spend an hour in here, that's how fun this place was to all of us. For sure a great place for gift ideas, that goes without saying. It was a nice bonus that the staff were experts at their respective departments: they gave me that imposing, borderline intimidating feeling like when you run into employees at Home Depot or at a used car dealer, but in a good way because they're dying to help, not harm and they won't condescend or patronise you. But they are clearly bursting with overconfidence and that's useful when pointed the right direction. Can't wait for our next outing here! read more

From light blulbs to key duplicators , from patio furniture to stationary. Need culinary tools? Well get down here , they have everything imaginable. Grills , juicers, blenders,baking ware , cheese graters , slicers, knives , cutting boards... This store has a tiny coffee shop in the middle as well. I didn't taste their coffee but it smelt wonderful. I also saw some muffins and cupcakes.The coffee shop is accompanied by a little section of sweets (chocolates , cakes, candies , cookies etc). The staff here is EXTREMELY friendly and helpful. I was looking for a spiralizer and the staff helped me look for it for 20min.. 20min !! I didn't end up finding what I was looking for exactly but got something close to it. Anyhow , the next time you need to buy ..lets say.. paint , plumbing tools , a shower head or even a staple gun ..stop by ..and check this place out..its a reasonably sized store and a lot better than HUGE places like Home Depot with little or no customer service. read more

It is an extensive hardware store with a coffee shop, chocolate bar, kids stuff, greeting card section, kitchenware, unique spices and sauces, and much much more! Kid friendly and they have a shopping cart toddler-sized. They have a bird named Chainsaw and he will even say hello. Everyone in the store is friendly and happy. A warm and welcoming environment. It is a litle pricey for some of the stuff, so it is good to browse and purchase some things elsewhere. There are some unique things in there, which are worth it.
