I bought a Kamado Joe style grill here recently. The staff was extremely helpful in helping me choose the correct size for my needs (or wants). The grills were in stock so that I can view them as well, which was also very helpful. Ace also provided delivery and installation for a small fee. While they are a little more expensive than some of the bigger hardware stores I value customer service, product knowledge, and having the item in stock and available for physically seeing the grill. Never thought id review an Ace but here we are! Went in today for a items. 1st time going into one actually. Was greeted when we walked in, basically every employee asked us if we needed help. And 3 different times we actually did need help and each of the 3 employees were super nice, listened to what we were trying to fix/do and gave suggestions/recommendations. I came here looking for replacement handles for a discontinued smoker grill but was unsuccessful. I purchased some other items unfortunately a week later I had to bring one item back. Here is the reason for 2 stars. I had my receipt and there was no issue receiving a credit back to my credit card however the lady issuing the credit was less than hospitable. She was short, curt, never smiled or said much of anything. I patronize businesses that provide good customer service, products, and competitive pricing. This hardware store's prices are more expensive, not overly helpful hardware folks, and has an unfriendly cashier. Probably not coming back to this hardware store anytime soon. read more

I had no idea there is an Ace Hardware store in this part of town I used to love. I generally love to shop at a store with full of stuff. This hardware store reminds me of Orchard Supply Hardware stores in California last century. The store is located at a tip of a T intersection. So, coming from Tully Road to Memorial Blvd, I had to signal way before turning left. Because I would have to turn right fast. Lucky me, all cars understood where I was going. As usual, all employees observe standard CoVid19 pandemic protocols. Because everyone wears mask, I couldn't tell if they were employees or customers. I was asked by a couple of people offered to help. I was in a bit of hurry. I found what I wanted quickly, although it took me awhile to get through crowded aisles. I truly don't like the overly crowded store because keeping 6-feet apart is a major pain. It has lots of goodies and I really want to come back to take closer look at this treasure chest. I found name brand items sold at Kohl's and other places. My brain was tickled and started to make a list. Because it took me awhile to get back to Chinatown during commute hours. One thing I noticed unusual was the employees were not diverse as this neighborhood comprised. Not sure if it was a Friday afternoon or just so happened other people were off that day. I went online and found what I needed. I was going to order and pay online but decided to just go there. I went to the store and they did not honor the online prices. I was charged a lot more. They have a man stationed at the front doors and this is the second time I've noticed him or other person shift his body weight as if he's coming after me, almost like an intimidation tactic. An enormous "Thank You" is in order to the Ace Hardware store on Memorial Drive and the owner, Bahman Sultani. In August this year a magnolia tree was planted at Westside High School in memory of our son, David Xavier Castro. David was a beloved member of the Westside Wolf Band and the Percussion Section Leader for the 2021-2022 school year. Keeping a young magnolia tree appropriately watered in the summer and fall in Houston has been a challenge, but band parents have kept it growing. We have been lugging 200 feet of hose around the campus to connect to the closest water spigot and we needed a hose reel cart was in order to make this job more efficient. One of our band parents went to Ace Hardware just before closing time and explained the situation to Bahman. He asked if Bahman could provide a discount on a hose reel cart for the band. When he made it to the checkout area Bahman totally surprised our parents by donating the full value ($150.00) of the cart to the band. I have been shopping at this Ace Hardware for over 32 years (even back when they were located at Kirkwood and Memorial in what is now the Dollar Tree location). Ali and his wife are great people and have always been very helpful over all these many years. However, I recently ran into a situation that greatly disappointed me. I bought a key blank on Amazon for my 2007 Mustang and took the blank to Ace for it to be cut. Since I already had two working keys for my Mustang, I did not need for them to program the new key. I simply needed for the new key to be cut, something they had done for me several years before for my wife's 2008 Mercury (exact same key). This time, the person at the key counter at Ace seemed very reluctant to cut the key and finally said that the cost would be $24.99. I asked to speak to Ali but he was not there. I left my card and asked for them to have Ali call me. I never received a call, so I went back by the store. Again, Ali was not there and I ended up speaking with two other employees. The message I got was that they did not like me bringing in my own blank to be cut. Anyway, I ended up taking my blank key to Houston Safe and Lock, 10210 Westheimer, where they cut the key for me in less than two minutes and charged me a fair price of $6 total. Needless to say, I will use Houston Safe and Lock for any future key cutting. I also noticed that Houston Safe and Lock had an impressive selection of home and business safes. Still very disappointed in Ace Hardware and the way its employees handled my key experience. read more

Walk around and find things you need that you didn't know they had and items you didn't realize you needed. Great place for unique gifts, as well, and the prices are fair. So I called the store and talked to Bahman, one of the store managers, and he said he would order it for me to avoid having to pay the shipping! They saved me a ton of money! The employees were friendly, but the manager is a major jerk. I purchased an item online because ACE.com said I could pick it up at this store same day. I specified online that I would pick up in store, this store. But the manager let me wait around two hours before he told me he wouldn't let me have it since I paid less online then he would get in the store. His solution was for me to come back in a week when Ace.com shipped him a new unit - then I could have it. I ended up paying his higher in-store price (+$40) since I was in a hurry (urgent repair) and had driven from another city - totally pissed! read more

If I could give it a zero I would. I ordered something online to pick up at this location and when I took it home I noticed the expiration date and the item was expired. I went back to return the item and I was told that nobody could give me that return because the person that handled online returns was busy. I asked to talk to the manager and he was very rude and he said that he "couldn't do everything". The least he could've done is accommodate my return, but I guess Customer Service is not that store's priority. Don't bother going to this location. One thing is for sure. I will never give any business to Ace hardware again. The customer service is down in the toilet. And that manager equally belongs there. now I have an expired item that the company very irresponsibly sold me, and I may not be able to return it because of the poor service these people give. Thank goodness for Ace Hardware! This franchise has successfully found its niche and has demonstrated that it can compete against those other behemoths: Lowes and Home Depot. You do pay more at Ace, but who cares! It seems I'm always in the middle of a "honey do" project that gets me stumped at some point. The solution? Drive around the corner to Ace, explain the situation to their knowledgeable staff, and co-create a solution with them. You then buy what you need and if it isn't quite right, you bring it right back for a refund and work on Plan B. Can I help you find something?". Home Depot is far enough away for me to not want to deal with the drive, traffic, and whatever else gets in the way. Granted the mark up a higher than that of the other big box retailers. Ace itself appears to be another large corporation. I found out that many of the stores are actually franchises that are locally owned. As a home improvement novice it is good to know that it is around the corner from my place. Recently I had a fuse go out at my house. An electrician expert was there to help me figure out the type of fuse I needed as well as the model. We settled on a arc fault type because of my house fire paranoia. Ace has come a long way from the down and out local hardware store it was a decade ago. I found a really good deal on a specific kind of glass, cylindrical vase online. I paid online and sent my husband to pick it up. Super easy to do and a great price. Liked it so much, that I tried to order another one, two weeks later. The site wouldn't let me order it. I called the store and Fernando, the manager, told me he remembered the order. Not only did he remember the vase, he actually remembered the item we bought at the same time. How could he possibly remember that? Anyway, he told me that he remembered seeing that he had one more of the vases, said he would put it aside for me and that I could have it for the same online price. Wow. I was so impressed.
