We needed a piece of wood to be fabricated to replace a missing brace on an old wood stool made in the 1960s. They had just the right kind of wood-red oak. Also we have an antique wood chair that has spindle legs and cross pieces. One of the cross pieces which was a brace had split badly. They had matching wood and made a spindle replacement for it. One thing I really like is that Rockler has classes that you can participate in and learn how to do certain things. For instance, if you've always wanted to turn a pen or a bowl, sign up for the class. They teach you how to do it and you take home what you actually turned. It's a great way to learn a new skill in woodworking. The staff is really helpful and knowledgeable about woodworking. They have different folks who know different things. If they don't know how to do something, they admit it but will pass you to the person who does. I like that a lot. Bottom line - A great store to shop for you woodworking needs. Back in the day, you could go here and get knowledgable help on wood working projects, the right tools, etc. Not any longer. Three trips later and lots of research on my own, I ended up having to educate the folks there about there own products. My guess is the lack of good staff is a function of the current employment situation in many places across the US right now. Anyway, do your own research before you go, these guys may not be able to help you. read more

This is my neighborhood woodworking store that I go to for quality items. I pulled up directly in front of the door last night at 5:55 pm. There was a sign on the door that had their hours which was not visible from my car. There was an "Open" sign burning next to the door, but their No Parking (unless you are shopping at Rockler's) signs had been pulled inside. The business hours on the sign are hard to read as they are tiny and not in bold type. I went in and was rudely notified by a young lady that they were closing. I told her that if the writing on the sign was legible that I would not have come into the store. Since I needed only a jug of paint stripper, it would have been more productive to ask me if she could help and I would have made a purchase and not been pissed off when I left. It looks like their hours were lowered about a month ago if Yelp is accurate. I have now been in twice in a week to try to obtain help to make a purchase for a Christmas gift for myself...a Kreig fastener system. Perhaps the store manager here is new (or in need of replacement). I may need to drive to Sugar Land to visit the Woodcrafter store to get service. Yes, I would like to be contacted by Rockler. I scoured the web and You Tube for suggestions of the adapters I would need to connect my dust collection system to my Sawstop JSS Pro for both upper and lower ports. I only found one, a festool hose & fittings, but I don't own the festool vac. I have Dust Rite fittings , so I went to Rockler. The staff was amazing and David took the time to test out several fittings on their floor model. It was beginning to look bleak but he took my number and promised he would"find a solution". Sure enough he let me know later that day exactly which connections and fittings I would need, and set them behind the counter. It really helps to have had my model on the floor and to make sure that everything fit. I am so OVER going to the big box store and bringing home countless fittings to try and then finding Im still missing a few adaptors to fittings. Thanks Rockler!. read more

I had the FINISHING class/lecture recently (Nov 20). Two hours of standing on our feet while the instructor, Ron was telling us information he knew very well about finishing products for wood. We were in the middle of the rear of the store and constantly battling to hear him over conversations other employees had with customers. Small specialty store for those hard to find woodworking supplies. This isn't Lowe's or Home Depot so you won't get lost amongst the aisles, but it is an ideal place for avid woodworking hobbyists. The fine older gentlemen working here are very charming and helpful. You can tell they love their job and decided to work here for pure pleasure and not because they had no other choice. They have an extensive selection of hand planes, stains, tools as well as some of the top of the line electrical woodworking equipment here, amongst many other supplies. They are located conveniently off the 59 feeder going north bound. read more

It would have been nice to have at least been acknowledged as I walked into the store last night. Instead, the two gentlemen who were working the counter went on about their conversation. That being said, this is one neat little store. There was plenty of parking in front. This store is part of a strip mall. The store was small in size but packed a lot of punch. When it comes to woodworking, this place has it all. So much inspiration walking the aisles. I'm glad that I knew what I was looking for as none of the employees offered any assistance. After wandering around a good bit, I found what I was looking for. I suppose that they are used to folks coming in and knowing exactly what they want and where to find it. I will say that the lady who rang up my purchase at checkout did ask if I was able to find everything that I needed and offered assistance which was nice. This is a specialty shop. I highly doubt that I will be a regular here but I would come back. read more

The technical support staff is not very helpful. I was trying to explain to them that the 6000 grit polishing stone I received is more abrasive than the 4000 grit, but they had hard timet believing it. Their answer was short and not helpful ( it seems that they don't want to deal with customers) read more

There were 3 employees in the Houston store when I walked in this afternoon to buy a drill press and table saw. They were talking to each other. I tried to get someone's attention, but they ignored me. Later, 2 disappeared in the back and the one remaining in front was too busy watching YouTube or some other video to help me.
