Had my drum sander not able to hold my sandpaper during episode of changing sandpaper. One of the clips no longer held tension of sandpaper, didn't know if fixable or user error. Called Empire Tools and James answered and was able to answer questions about the sander and we decided to bring it in and have the repair guys look at it. I drove from Navasota to store and James called the repair department and explained the situation and then Andrew came out to look at the sander in my truck. After examining the tool he was able to make quick fix (user error) to clip and it was able to hold tension. Both men very helpful, patient and explained things as discussed. Took sander home and put new sandpaper in and has been working great. Thank you James, Andrew and Empire Tools. Above and beyond. The staff are friendly and the store is large... but not particularly dense. I went in-search-of "setup blocks" (these are used to quickly set the tablesaw or router table height and width). They didn't have this item. Walking the aisles... it's my impression that the store caters to people that work in the trades (construction, etc). This is NOT a place that carries fine woodworking tools or things that a machinist would use. You won't find high-precision tools, here. Instead, you'll find durable power tools, chain saws, automotive jacks, hammers, work belts, etc. A website would have saved me a trip over there. One thing that I did notice is that many of the tools were marked as "lower-priced that the [redacted] big box store." If they had what I needed, I'd rather give my money to these folks (than to a company/etc that donates to a political party I detest). read more

They call me daily trying to collect outrageous $ for cheap tools and won't accept the return. This company is a SCAM. What kind of company has to scam customers to buying their products. I went to get my table saw repair, he checked serial number and booked it for free repair under warranty, and didn't even ask for receipt or proof of purchase. I called a few times as I have bunch of broken tools at the wearhouse and he gave me the expert advise on which one to bring and which one to through away. I'll have to be completely honest and openly admit that tools are something that could cause me to empty the bank account, sell the cars, and take out a second mortgage. There might not be any practical application that calls for a ratchet to have eighty teeth in the gearing, as opposed to sixty, but you can darn well bet I would spend an extra hundred bucks to get my hands on the former. Having established a clear bias for any establishment "tool" oriented, allow me to clearly state; Empire has a depth of selection that no box-store can match. If its just any old screwdriver that you might need, then Home Depot or Lowe's is what you're looking for. If, however, you want to spend a bit more and find a driver that doesn't round off after the first demanding use, then go to Empire. Prices??? A bit steep in some cases (found better drill bits at less cost and equal quality elsewhere), but the selection is very satisfying. Being able to choose between Bosch and Milwaukee power tools may not curl your toes, but if it does, Empire might not be a bad place to visit. read more

Took my old Campbell Hausfied air compressor in to have it checked out. I had bought it at a Big Box store as a reconditioned unit just over 15 years ago..The folks there were super nice, and even though I had to pay $20.00 up front, that was OK.. I was informed by the tech that if it was a motor burnt out or the compressor, that it would be rather expensive, like over $150.00, units not sold separate.. I was not hassled into buying a new air compressor, like some other tool places.. A week later I drove by, my air compressor was repaired, it was an internal fuse, cost me $8.66 more making my total $28.66... I like most DIY's I was amazed at the tools had just wish I had the shop and money to fill it with these tools.. read more

Called on the phone to inquire about some tools. Had to repeat myself 3-4 times. , I asked him what he said on the phone and he said sorry. Asked him why he said sorry, someone near him trying to get into the conversation, so he says sorry again, asked him again why, and he's says sorry, well nothing good there, at least with them as far as being good people. Couldn't even handle a call, called 3 times, asked more then once about tools, still don't know if they have the tools. Called back asked to speak to manager, they really didn't want to chat, about the tools they had. Then they didn't pick up. Thinking if they cant harasses you they are intimated. I took a $250 Milwaukee Hammer Drill in to be repaired in late June 17. After I call them for several weeks, I was told the cost to fix the hammer-drill would be about $125 and would be 2-3 weeks at the most. I said OK. By mid August I was needing my drill back or just buy another one and was told the whole problem was not their fault, but they blamed it on Milwaukee. In late August I called repeatedly and was told they had all the parts and it would be ready the next day. This went on day after day until Harvey came to visit. After business' resumed I contacted them to pickup the drill. At that time I was told the drill could not be fixed and was worthless. I was told it was my tough luck and they couldn't help me in any other way! I would not recommend this place to anyone. They obviously do have technicians that can tell a fixable tool from a destroyed tool......plus they never took any responsibility for any of the problem. (Acted just like Hillary!) I had to be proactive on all calls and never received a proactive call from them, although they did return my call once. DONT USE THEM read more
