On a serious note all I've ever tried here is the vege pizza and I can attest to the fact that they knock it out of the park. Please go try the vege pizza (peas, mushrooms, tomatoes, cheese and basil) during happy hour (4:30-6:30pm), it's only $10. Before I forget, the folks behind the bar are the funnest people in town - meet 'Kayla' and 'Curley', the coolest people in town. I will be back again with more friends. read more

Went back to CoCo, which continues to be delicious. I tried the traditional mussels this time (onions, tomatoes, broth), which are definitely my favorite out of the bunch. My friends had a pork special and a delectable pasta special. We split the shrimp cakes as a starter - still incredible, I could have those as a meal. I'm tickled by the atmosphere and love that every time we've been here there has been somebody playing a unique instrument. I believe this last time it was an accordion. I went to Coco during Local Restaurant week and had a fabulous meal. Our waitress was incredible and we really enjoyed ourselves. The atmosphere is wonderful and I started with a great cocktail...a fruity martini with a variety of ingredients. The bread comes out with the same white bean spread offered at Le Metro and it was nice to see some of their traditions carried forward in the new place. Wish there were more vegan options on their regular menu. There isn't anything on it that seems as exciting as the meat dishes do. I would give this pace a four for carnivores, a four for the bar and a two for vegans. read more

Went to Coco for my anniversary dinner with my boyfriend a few weeks ago. Similar to another reviewer, there was a large party of middle aged women who seemed to neglect there was anyone else in the room. The staff never said anything to them, despite the looks many customers were giving them. By the time I ordered my entree my head was pounding and I couldn't even have a conversation due to the loud noise. My boyfriend ordered the steak frites and it was TO DIE FOR. However, it's not terribly hard to make steak and French fries. If you're unsure when looking at the menu I would highly recommend this. I ordered the Gorgonzola cream trout and was not entirely pleased. They neglected to tell me the entree came out as the whole fish, head, eyes and tail still attached. They argued this was the European style, which I agree is correct, I would just recommend they warn people because many do not enjoy staring into the eyes of their meal. The flavor was well done and I wished I had steak with the Gorgonzola cream instead. I'd give this place a try if you're really looking for more of the ambiance and ostentatious side of it rather than simply the taste. Drinks are impeccable though! read more

I took out the wifey for her birthday dinner here, and it was OH SO good. We started with Swedish Meatballs with Lingonberries - an inspired combo and nicely done. She had the Duck Breast, I had the Trout with horseradish sauce. It did remind me of good Parisian restaurants: simple, but flawlessly executed. Our server, Katie Mae, was top notch. She had just the right picks for wine, entree and dessert. I have a really simple rule - any restaurant worth its salt must have an heavenly aroma wafting through it at all times. So, my husband & I went here with a group of friend for our Anniversary. It was also "Restaurant Week" in Buffalo. The service was OK & they sat us at the "community table" which we all hated at first. See we are a rowdy group, very fun & laugh a lot. The people next to us were Duds. Anyway, they were a fast service but nothing was very "showcased". We asked what they were known for & she did not have an answer. :( The food was simple & just alright. The place was clean & quiet. The fun/best part was the community tables drawers. Inside were these funny gag type gifts. (not to keep-just funny to see them there) One of us got a bloody foot, pregnancy test, marijuana test, a wig & other funny things. We were cracking up at what we found. All in all: OK food, fast service, clean place & laughs at the community table. Would I go there again? probably not. ... xo read more

Coco has a great happy hour with selected drink specials and snacks at the bar. They also have a really cute patio for enjoying the summer weather. The food has a French bistro flare. Wow... The mussels provencal are the most amazing food i have ever eaten!!! Now let's talk about the restaurant it self... At 888 Main St. in the Allentown section of Buffalo Ny. It is a charming place, a great bar, arestaurant that feels like you are in a cosmopolitan area and in the summer a patio that makes you believe you are in europe... Did i mention the mussels? We were there for restaurant week. We ordered the superb Provencal Moules off the regular menu to start and enjoyed the restaurant week special menu for our meal. It was all fresh, flavorful and delicious. The drinks, "Let the Night BeGin" and "Raspberry Beret" were creative and so good I had to order a second round. We ended the evening with Kladdkaka, a Swedish soft chocolate cake with lingonberries. It was so amazing that I'm still dreaming about it. Coco also has excellent service and a lovely ambience, where it's lively but not loud. Overall a fantastic dining experience! read more

The Thai curry mussels were really good. I found the rosemary frites to be good but not out of this world delicious. Wine list was short but probably something for everyone. We ate on the patio on a hot night - super relaxing. Our waitress was very nice, but when she offered dessert, she didn't actually know what they had. But she was really sweet and wrote up the menu for us after she found out. (And then after all that, we didn't actually get anything... Oops...) I'd definitely come back and have another laid back, late evening meal. read more

Loved it here! I went with my husband for our wedding anniversary on a Tuesday night. It was very cute and quaint, and the service was great. They have a nice wine list and the server was super knowledgeable about it. We had the Ratatouille Pasta appetizer, I ordered the carbonara and my husband had the cassoulet. The carbonara was very good, and my husband raved about the cassoulet--especially the sausage! For dessert, we had macarons. We will be back! read more

Had a great dinner at Coco on a Monday night. We didn't have any trouble finding parking on Main Street, the artwork on display is beautiful, the restaurant wasn't busy, the bar seemed quiet, the tables are set with sufficient space in between so you don't feel like you're having dinner with strangers sitting a foot away, and the service was good. The fact that they're open on Mondays is great on its own. The fried Brie appetizer was great - fried Brie sticks accompanied by arugula salad, berries, apricots, and crostini. I could have gone home satisfied just based on that. I had Thai curry mussels for dinner - the curry was spicy (not hot) and flavorful. The macarons I had for dessert were adequate, not fresh, and not memorable. They also have some great pizza options but I'll have to try those next time. read more

I finally came back here for dinner with my family a few weeks ago, and my instinct was absolutely right -- although Coco serves a solid brunch, their dinner is what truly sets them apart. I ordered the steak frites. Honestly, I don't like steak that much and rarely am inclined to order it when I'm at restaurants. But if everywhere made it like Coco does, I would absolutely get it more often. The fries in particular were unreal. The rest of my family liked the food as well! The decor in the restaurant can also be more fully appreciated at night. Coco is really cozy -- dimly lit, with lots of candles. It would be a great evening date spot. read more

Great staff. Charming cozy atmosphere. Plenty of excellent picks on menu but Lamb burger is heaven. Great spot for a little happy hour during the week with nice wine specials and pom frites. Went here for my birthday. Thought it was only fair. The Provençal mussels were bland, needed more seasoning. Restaurant was noisy and needed some updating. Would not recommend for a special occasion. So many more finer places in Buffalo. However, my son had the steak frites and raved about them. This place not among my favorites. read more

My recent experience with this restaurant marred the previous wonderful experiences I had as a diner. I have been dining at Coco since it opened. One of my favorite things to do was to go with a friend and have a pizza and a soup or salad. Overall, the menu is diverse without being overwhelming, the food quality is pretty good, and the cocktails have always been well made. I have come for lunch, dinner, and special events. Recently, I had lunch with a friend and my credit card was charged twice for two different amounts. After multiple calls and not having my messages returned, I ended up needing to file a claim with my bank and waiting a few days for reimbursement. I understand mistakes happen and was willing to be patient with the restaurant. Refusing to return messages is where they lost my business. I don't care how amazing a place is, I don't tolerate bad service and sneaky credit card charges. I have plenty of other options. While I hope this is an anecdotal experience, I'm not taking the risk again. As with any other establishment--if you choose to dine here and use your credit card, make sure to check your statement for fraudulent charges. UPDATE: I'm sharing what is below for the sake of transparency. I'm shocked that a one star Yelp review was more important than the facts. Here's the transcript from a voicemail I received from the owner courtesy of Google Voice: "Naomi it's Maura from Coco. I have a message for you called at 6:47 p.m. on Friday, January 20th. I am the owner and manager of Coco. I was out of town for January 20 for my birthday, and I got home last night to a 1 star yelp review. Now, I only have one message from you. I think that in due process of business you could waited for me to get back into town to deal with this now with happily done it very quickly and very swiftly and properly. Now deal with the bank, but I just think, I'm holding what I think. Alright. We don't really want your kind in here." FACT: My call logs and time on those calls are proof that I called and left more than one message. In fact, I spoke to a staff member who told me I would get a call. FACT: The staff person I spoke to failed to mention that the person who could handle my request would be unavailable for a few days despite politely taking details of when I dined. I've been told by my business owning friends that they leave trusted staff to handle matters like this when they are not available. Honestly, I would have waited and updated my review but in this case the owner failed to handle concerns in a professional manner. It's not up to me to know you're taking a week off, it's up to your staff to know what to do and say when you are off for a week. I'm not going to tell anyone to boycott this business. Do what you want with your hard earned money. It's my review based on facts. The voicemail seals the deal--I will not patron any restaurant owned by this owner, she really doesn't want "my kind" around. read more

I made reservations for 2 on a Sunday evening. We got there and was told we either can sit at a hightop or sit outside on the street (thier version of an outdoor patio), we asked to sit in the dining room and was told it was closed and they had no more room because they had tons of reservations ( there was no one there) we declined, if I am going to spend 100-200 dollars on a meal, I should not have to sit on main street. Absolutely fantastic dining experience from starters to dessert! I came with my family and it was our first time dining here. Everyone very much enjoyed their food. I personally got the mussels, done Thai curry style and they were PHENOMENAL and there was an extremely generous amount of mussels in the portion. Came for dinner during restaurant week, when we made the reservation ,we did not realize it was going to be restaurant week. So we decided to order off of the menu for restaurant week and we were not disappointed. There were so many fabulous choices, I really had a hard time picking an appetize,r entrée and dessert- because I could've had any of them -they all sounded tantalizing. I started off with the red pepper bisque -it was delicious, garnished with Gorgonzola. I followed that with my entrée of grilled spinach and polenta, also very delicious and the dessert was some fabulous creation with caramelized popcorn and chocolate sauce over ice cream of some sort- I'm not really describing it exactly how it was on the menu, but let me tell you it was yummy. This is my friend's favorite restaurant and that's why we met here -and now that I've been here I will definitely be back. The interior space is very cool, the art work, the appointments,the lighting -it was just a really great atmosphere. the bar area was also really nice. Anniversary dinner on the newly reopened patio! Every course perfectly prepared. Trout with lemon sauce - everything I wanted it to be. My husband's steak - tender and done as ordered. And those frites - still the best in the city. Tables spaced apart. Staff courteous and careful. Next time we'll try the extended patio next door, Moxie's. Very cleverly laid out and decorated.
