Came here with my significant other for a fancy dinner. I had the cappelletti and the halibut, he had the sea scallops and the tenderloin. I would get the sea scallops over the Capelletti, but both were very good. My halibut was cooked perfectly. Next time I want to try that beetroot pavé, it sounds great. We also shared the baked Alaska, note that is not lit on fire for you. I wish they sold the spiced chocolate ice cream separately. I would absolutely buy a tub to take home. It was amazing. The waiter was very kind and there was a nice welcoming, non-stuffy feeling to the restaurant. I wish they advertised soda products, especially for people who don't drink alcohol. I was visiting my bestie in Canada and came across this place on Yelp. We decided to go on a Friday night so we could have the option to try their Tasting Menu, and I was happy to be able to get a last minute reservation. As soon as we entered we were greeted and seated upstairs in a lovely quaint dining room. Our waiter Kyle came over and explained the menu options. We both ordered cocktails and decided to try the tasting menu. It was a great decision as we enjoyed everything that was placed in front of us. While everything was amazing, my favorite dish that evening was the salmon with the perfectly crispy skin and the pork loin/pork belly. The amazing service provided by Kyle, the ambiance, quality ingredients and amazing pairing of the ingredients made for an unforgettable meal and I can't wait to return to Quatrefoil. On Fridays they offer a five course tasting menu ($72 a person) with wine pairings (additional $55). Like traditional meals, it starts off with an amuse bouche, a portion of braised veal cheek situated on a light tapioca cracker with dollops of crème fraiche. It's a tasty bite, but a tad salty even with the tangy yoghurt. Followed by a great selection of bread including brown sugar pumpernickel (great combination), chewy French bread, oily poppy seed puff pastry, and a decent cheese and chive puff. It's an enticing place and I had to try a bit of everything. Quatrefoil presents beautiful plates. The seared sea scallop arrived with a lovely golden crust and while it was starting to split, the centre was cooked perfectly remaining tender and sweet. The buttery sauce was lightened with strawberry vinaigrette and the dish kept fresh with sweet spring peas and crunchy fennel. It paired wonderfully with the Chablis. For a sweet and savoury course, I rather enjoyed the compressed cantaloupe salad. The melon was squeezed until the juices are removed so you get its sweet essence but it doesn't overwhelm the other elements. It went nicely with the creamy whipped ricotta and the garlicky pesto and arugula keeps the dish savoury. It's all topped with slices of summer truffle - eat these with the ricotta as with the strong pesto its mild flavours become lost. The apex of the night was the Arctic char where the fish's meat was flakey and tender but the skin could be a touch crispier. Paired with a tomato vinaigrette - a popular choice - at Quatrefoil it's seasoned beautifully so you get a fresh tomato jus that's also flavourful. The warm quinoa base acted as a great side. Sadly, the last half of the meal is where the menu starts to falter. Tenderloin, when left in a longer cut, can be finicky to work with given it's thicker in the middle and tapers off at the end. This leaves the thickest part of the steak arriving medium rare while the rest of it was really overdone - the heated plate probably didn't help. read more

We ordered: App: Cornmeal Crusted Calamari (OK) Main: Manitoulin Rainbow Trout (Really good: fish cooked perfectly and with excellent plating) Dessert: Corn Cake (Excellent: love all the elements and interesting texture especially the wild rice granola) We also ordered from their regular menu: Veal Tartar $15 (Excellent: love the parmesan churro!!) Organic Salmon & Wild Halibut Fish Cake $18 (Meh: dry and flavourless) Since we were here for a late lunch on a weekday, we have the whole dining room for ourselves. Service was attentive but give yourself plenty of time 1 hour + for the whole experience. I would highly recommend coming to Quatrefoil Restaurant when you are visiting Hamilton or in the area. Everything was cooked well and was well seasoned. With the reviews and accolades however, I was maybe expecting something more. The dishes weren't all too creative in comparison to those at other locally sourced gems outside of the city. So i was in the mood for some french cuisine the other day... i was in the Hamilton area and I decide to try this place out. Good ratings and reviews so why not? I'm glad i did. Located in Dundas, the restaurant is built in an old house. Great concept..think..Sasafrazz but without the Ferrari and Bentley parked out front. Anyway, they sat us with out a reservation in the "Upstairs" part of the house. Cozy with minimal decor. The service was top notch and our waiter was very knowledgeable about wine the food. We had the tasting menu and wine pairing. -Started with a seared scallops. They were nicely done and not overcooked at all. A little small on the portions but otherwise perfect. - next was the squash appetizer. Again perfectly done however elite bitter for my taste. - poached artic char was done very nicely...with just the right amount tenderness and not overcooked . The squash marmalade was awesome. - the beef striploin. I had mine rare good cut of beef wit just the right amount of pink. Finished off with cheese cake and a Grand marnier. What a great find in little old Dundas! The food is on par with some of the other great restaurants in this area (Blacktree and Spencer's in Burlington) and the service is fantastic. Our server, Peter, was amazing. I had a baby red romaine and chicory salad with dried figs, pine nuts, Celtic blue cheese, and pinot noir vinaigrette for an appetizer - what a great combination of flavours! We were also brought out a bread basket with pastry straws and cheese & herb puffs, which were both made in house. They were light as air and practically melted in our mouths. For my entree I had the organic salmon with soft baked celery root, kale, chorizo, beluga lentils, and a caper and brown butter vinaigrette. The fish was perhaps slightly more well done than I like it, although it was still far from overdone. And the kale, lentil, and chorizo mixture it was plated upon was amazing. I could have seriously just eaten a big plate of that for a meal and been happy. I'll definitely be back! read more

I've been waiting so long to try Quatrefoil. We made reservations for lunch on a Saturday. The restaurant is like a house set up to be a restaurant. We were seated on the second floor. It wasn't super busy that day and there were 2 other parties on the floor. Service was great throughout. We started with the soup of the day duck pastrami and the soup of the day - a lobster soup. The duck is like a cured meat with some berry sauce and hazelnut. I really liked the lobster soup - it was rich but not overwhelming. We then had the lamb and the cumbrae meatloaf. Both were really good - I think I liked the meatloaf a bit more. For dessert, we had the creme brulee and the chocolate tart. I'm not the biggest fan of chocolate so chocolate tart was a little heavy for me but the creme brulee was great. Their apple ice cream with the creme brulee was refreshing. I was pleasantly surprised by the large portion sizes. Everything on the prix fixe menu is also on their a la carte menu. The three course meal sets you back $37 but it's very reasonable. read more

One of the classiest restaurants in Hamilton, I can see why it has such a great reputation since it opened almost 10 years ago. The interior is tasteful and looks like a period home. The restaurant is rather small but it makes it intimate and quaint. The food I have to say is at par, and with the friendly service, you do get what you pay for. read more

Had a beet salad to start then the chicken and potatoes which was done perfectly. Wonderful moist taste. The desert looked good and some people really enjoyed it. Without question, the greatest meal my wife and I have shared in a long, long time. Fraser & Georgina belong right up there with every celebrity chef to ever grace a kitchen, write a book, or star in a TV series. The best part is, living in Dundas, we don't have to drive into downtown Toronto to have a Susur Lee/Jamie Kennedy/Claudio Aprile experience. We were celebrating our anniversary. I had made a few low-key arrangements prior to our arrival and each were adhered to flawlessly. Exaclty as I had hoped. Perfect. The meal was outstanding in every imagineable way. An amuse bouche of smoked salmon butter on a fingerling crisp. So good... I'm sure there's an appropriate french name or term for the aforementioned "butter," but what it is escapes me at the moment. I had Cola Braised Pork Belly & Grilled Scallops to begin -- Mouthwateringly fantastic. Scallops were tender and sweet, the pork belly melted in my mouth. My with had a Jerusalem Artichoke ravioli that was absolutely one of the greatest pieces of pasta I've ever had. For dinner, I had the duck -- cooked to perfection like everything else -- atop a bed of scalloped something (like a root vegetable, maybe rutabega), surrounded by a reduction of mouthwatering excellence. The dessert was solid. I had an apple cake of some design (it was a hair dry, but still flavorful (Always Go For The Chocolate! -- I have to remember this)). If I had one minor complaint it would be this: Not enough Canadian wine options. I think there was just one bottle. We have enough excellent wine in our country to deserve some prominence on any menu. Looking forward to our next visit! read more

What a fantastic find! Quatrefoil (which I still haven't figured out how to pronounce properly) opened just a few months ago in a 19th-century house off the main drag in Dundas, and it is a gem. They (the food cognoscenti) say you can tell a lot about a restaurant by the soup. This weekend's was a puree of fresh peas, garnished with Pingue prosciutto. It tasted precisely like peas -- the taste and smell you get when you pick a pod in the garden, crack it open, and pop the peas in your mouth. So excellent! The best soup I've had in a very long time. The ricotta and herb gnocchi, too, were excellent. Light, fluffy and delicious. Mains: beef tenderloin, ordered medium by someone who doesn't like blood, was perfectly grilled - pink, and not at all overdone. The duck breast, sitting on top of a large hunk of potato gratin, had our friend moaning with pleasure. The only misstep of the meal was the accompaniments to the otherwise excellent lamb: the "braised shoulder ravioli" - half the reason two of us ordered the dish - were tasteless and dry, the vegetables kind of bland. But the lamb itself -- not a traditional rack but two perfectly cooked tube-shaped pieces trimmed away from the bone (I'm sure this kind of cut has a name, I just don't know what it is) -- was as good as everything else on the table. The wine list is relatively short (for a restaurant of this level of ambition and quality), but well-chosen and economical (most bottles around $50). The waiter's recommendation of a Portuguese red was so ideal, we didn't hesitate to order a second bottle of the same. Quatrefoil is "spendy" by almost any standard - mains are $28 to $38. But given the quality of the food, the service and the beautiful room, it's totally worth it. read more

Quatrefoil is a rather incredible find; a genuine fine dining experience in the middle of an otherwise mundane suburban eating landscape. A small group of us went for dinner on a balmy saturday night and ordered a range of dishes - nothing disappointed, but for me the highlight was my starter of veal sweetbreads, beautifully prepared so they were wonderfully crisp on the outside and still soft, almost creamy, on the inside. Also wonderful was the crispy duck yolk, beautifully complimented by a Parmesan custard. Main courses were also excellent - the rack and shoulder of lamb with rosemary crust wasn't the most innovative dish, but it was prepared to perfection, the herbs really drawing out the subtle gaminess of the meat. Pan seared halibut was also very good, crisped to light gold, but still succulent beneath. It was placed upon a bed of basil risotto that complimented the fish without being overpowering; a great dish. If any failing could be found with the food it would be the deserts; while good, they couldn't compare to the quality of the savoury courses - although we still managed to polish them off in their entirety. Staff were wonderfully attentive, without being invasive, and decor was fine. My only gripe was that toward the end of the meal the outdoor dining area was a little too dark to see the food perfectly, but I prefer it tastefully dim to being floodlit, so we made do. I was greatly impressed with our evening at Quatrefoil, I left satisfied and continually mulling over the marvellous combinations of flavours that we'd tried, and counting the days until I can come again! read more

We were a party of 5 and got to taste a variety of different mains. Let's start with the appetizers. The potato leek soup was very good. Perfect appetizer with a generous portion. The calamari appetizer was also good, though not the best I've had. The mains were okay. The few of us who ordered the steak and frites were very happy and satisfied. The meat was cooked perfectly. The meatloaf was okay. I wasn't very thrilled with it overall and wish I had opted for the fish. The eggs Benedict were the disappointment. It was served on a hard English muffin and the ham was very fatty and tasteless. The hollandaise sauce wasn't special, though the eggs were perfectly cooked. The dessert was the winner for me. Astoundingly good. One of the best meals I've ever had. On each plate, flavours come together in ways that are startling and stunning. Everything is a whole that is more than the sum of its parts. The scallop appetizer is breathtaking. The white asparagus with leeks is incredible. Desserts and the breads were also out of this world. The mains we're also very good, but a bit conservative in design given the capabilities and confidence displayed in all the other courses. I expect most diners welcome their simplicity and the generous protein portions. Next time it will be strictly appetizers for me. Note to veggie friends: When making reservations, we were told that vegetarian options were available, but on arrival, they proved scarce. I'm sure they will happily make all the substitutions you need, but accommodating isn't the same as welcoming. I think my vegetarian daughter felt a bit 2nd class here, and I don't blame her. We had a special occasion dinner last evening at Quatrefoil. We had reserved the private room upstairs for 16 of us. The restaurant put together an amazing 6 course meal for us with wine pairings. Every course was spectacular and perfectly prepared. The wine pairs were excellent. This is one of the best restaurants for fine dining in Ontario. The restaurant was excellent at accommodating one of our vegetarian guests and one who was eating gluten free. This is the 3rd time we have dined here and every time we are so pleased with our evening. Our guests had a fabulous time and once again, we leave wanting to return!! read more

This place is tres uber fantastic.... Toronto style dining coming to Dundas, ON. The resto is fab. It's pricey but well worth it. The decor is white and clean and the little house gives it a cozy but extremely modern feel. The pillows of heaven as an app melted in your mouth and grilled quail was to die for. The cheese plate at the end of the night was by far the best. I really should have written this review right after (live and learn) so I could tell you all the amazing cheeses we had. Five stars well deserved. I was impressed with Quatrefoil's amazing food, beautiful plating, and exceptional service! To start, they gave us an assortment of bread as a complimentary appetizer. I liked the ones that looked like a miniature of yorkshire puddings. Their wholewheat bread was pretty good, too. Cornmeal Crusted Calamari was so crispy and tasty. It tasted soooooo yummy with the watercress mayo. I really liked this calamari dish. As for my main, I had Confit Duck Leg, and this was cooked to perfection. I wasn't a big fan of the side, wild rice fritters, though. They looked like mini-falafels. As for the dessert, I liked the spiced vanilla ice cream that came with a butter tart. Overall, it was a very pleasant meal. The waiter and the waitress were very attentive and professional. My only complaint is that food came out a little slow but their food is definitely worth the wait. read more

Since we need to head to Hamilton on a Saturday night, so we might as well have a nice dinner there as it's someone's birthday. We made a reservation a few weeks before and able to get a nice table as soon as we sat down. From my experience for that night, worth 5 stars from decor to service to food. Decor - a very nice, clean,elegant, quiet env where you can focus on the food! Parking is easy and it's free on Sat/Sun/stat holiday!! I guess I am so used to needing to pay for parking in Toronto and get excited on this, lol. Service - everyone is polite and warm and I feel quite comfortable there! The person who bring us to the table is very sincere and polite, we feel so welcomed. I kinda feel bad at the end in needing him to rearrange the table setting abit after we sat down because one of the guest needed to sit on a specific spot of the table due to body physical reasons. They are quite accommodating I gotta say. Thank you! Food - We ordered the soup special of the day, duck prosciutto, smoked Salmon as appetizer. And as main, we ordered the Duck breast, day special - Halibut, and Cornish chicken. I am not gonna talk about each dish because I will need to write a book. The soup, I don't know what;s in the soup exactly but it sure taste great. Besides onions, I honestly don't know what else is in there but my taste buds sure are happy. And I let my wife tried it as well and we both love it! Another worth mentioning is the duck Prosciutto. It's cured duck meat with some salad and some berry like paste and again that goes so well together - abit of tangy from the "berry like" paste, abit of crunchiness from the veggie, abit of saltiness from the duck and duck fat/skin... yum! The guest who ordered the smoked salmon liked his dish as well. The Duck breast and Cornish chicken are both pretty to look at and taste great. Also, I gotta mention, not only did the dishes taste great, but the portion are generous as well. I was stuffed with good food! Dessert - We ordered the the lemon custard and the chocolate cake, plus a coffee to go with the dessert. Just look at the picture and judge for yourself... I like them as well, particularly with the coffee together. Oh, the coffee are French press coffee. Price - it is on the expensive side but for this kind of quality from taste to plate presentation, I think it's worth the money and i think you may need to pay more in TO for the same quality. But Hamilton is abit far for me, I gotta say. I will definitely come again and for sure will try their lunch. If it's the same food quality for $35 bucks for 3 courses, I am in for sure!! My husband and I treated my parents out to dinner here last week. The food was amazing. Our waiter was attentive but not intrusive, answered all our questions about the menu (what's a torchon? what's a cromesquis?) and did a good job orchestrating the meal. The Crispy Duck Yolk with duck ham, parmesan custard, spinach, and croutons was AMAZING. The richness was offset by the touch of bitter in the spinach and the saltiness of the duck ham.
