Torn.
Selected this place for my bday lunch because they're related to La Parisienne Creperie that was located in Oakville in which I had a wonderful meal at! And pics of the Euro-inspired interior were enticing as well.
Bistro Reunion is located in Morriston which is a small town just south of Guelph. The actual Bistro is on Hwy 6 which is an extremely busy 2-lane thoroughfare running between Guelph / Hamilton. There are lotsa semi trucks whizzing by at high speeds. Road noise can be heard if you sit near the front windows. However, there is a nice patio at the back!
Since there was only a super sunny spot left, I opted to sit inside instead. There was only 1 other table dining indoors during my visit. The rest of the patrons were outside.
Driving by the restaurant and not being familiar with the parking sitch, I called a few times before anyone picked up. Walking in to an almost empty restaurant, I was surprised that there was no greeting, no reception. So both these things did not make a great impression to me. I walked all the way to the back of the restaurant to check out the back patio without any acknowledgement. Eventually, the waitress came out to the front to let us know that we can sit wherever we wanted.
Menu-wise, at least for lunch, I'd say it is a bit limited. Most of the items are sandwich-y, a few crepes, with the daily specials of PEI oysters done a couple of different ways. Drink menu seemed longer than food, although there was only a coupla whites/reds by the glass. Quite a few cocktail/mocktail options.
Food was good, but did take a while to roll out. French onion soup was only available in the mini 'cause they didn't have the larger bowls which was a bit odd.
I had the sliders asked for the bacon jam to be on the side. Bacon jam was not what I expected. It was crumbled pieces of overcooked bacon sitting in oil, no sweetness/sauce to it whatsoever.
Service was not super attentive, maybe it was more so out on the patio was the majority of the lunch diners. There was 1 waitress and 1 male (manager?) who came to drop off a couple of the dishes.
Although food was good and I did enjoy my meal, I expected MORE based on the reviews, previous experience at Parisienne Creperie. It's a new-ish restaurant, but the service seemed a bit disorganized as to who does what. Lotsa potential, but menu needs a bit more variety, and they need to tweak their service to really set themselves apart. Interior setting is like you've been transported to Europe somewhere! read more
