I don't even know where to begin with this place. It is amazing. Michelin man is coming to town soon, and I hope they give these guys a star. Personally, I'm giving them 5 stars. Food is exquisite, the service is just the right amount of serious and welcoming, the setting has an old-world charm to it, and that makes the entire experience unforgettable. We have been talking about our dinner here for weeks. Not to mention, it is rated #5 of Canada's top 100 this year (2022). What a great night!

Apricot dessert (3.5/5), breakfast cocktail (3.5/5), and complimentary peach dessert !

First of all, we lucked out with getting an open spot for dinner after our couples massage at the Langdon Hall Spa. We initially tried to book dinner reservations for a Friday night, but was told that we weren't allowed to unless we were guests staying overnight (a bit pretentious imo). Nevertheless, we were able to dine and received impeccable service and ambiance. There was even a live pianist ! We ordered a few cocktails (including their famous Poolside, but we added liquor). It seems like the chef makes a complimentary daily appie (in our case, it was a compressed cucumber geranium creation) and dessert (fancy gourmet peach jelly Oreo creation). Neat! Also, their complimentary sourdough bread and butter was great. Otherwise, we ordered: -Truffle Bone Marrow Soup (3.5/5, extremely savoury and flavourful, but also quite salty) -Foie Gras (4/5, the perfect melt in your mouth combo of buttery foie gras, peach, and sweet jelly. Definitely needed more bread to eat with this, and must share with at least 2-3 people as it's really rich/heavy) -Young Chicken (4.5/5, very uniquely done chicken 4-ways, and loved the sauces) -Smoked Beef (4/5) -Apricot dessert (3.5/5, nice presentation and components, but was overall quite sweet) I'm glad we had a dinner experience here, and really liked being able to walk and explore their property (the gardens, lawn, and patio areas). The billiard table and sitting rooms with the board games were nice too!

Ok. This is my spot. Everyone knows that when I come to town, this is the one place I am sure to stop by. Now, however, I need to plan it a bit better as they fill up for dinner (and even the bar area), so a reservation is best. You can't beat the ambiance and spa/disconnected feeling you get when you visit. I feel like I am in another country (well, I am, but another, another one)... Err, well... either way, I have never been disappointed. Actually, let me take that back. The first couple times I came, I was VERY disappointed as I didn't know they changed their menus so often. I only come once or twice a year, so if I ate something I LOVED... too bad, they usually don't have it when I come again in a different season. This is also probably good for me as I've tried many dishes I Loved! Sometimes, if I'm not tired and it's not too late, I will have a bite, get a cup of coffee and smoke a cigar while just walking around the property. A+

If I'm going out to a fancy restaurant, I swore to never get a chicken dish. After scouring yelp reviews and asking for the waitress's opinion, I settled on the young chicken entrée. I was absolutely blown away by this dish. The sauces were the star of the show here as they heightened every bite. This was Possibly the tastiest meal I've had since going to Miku a week before the first lockdown. I wouldn't have thought twice about the chicken option but another reviewer gave it a 5/5 so it piqued my interest. Here's a breakdown of what we got and what we'd rate it at: Poached scallops - 5/5 Young chicken - 5/5 sauces were amazing, as was the pate and perfectly cooked chicken Halibut - 4.5/5 light flavour, melts in your mouth, vegetable were delicious Panna cotta - 5/5 a must have! Raspberry - 5/5 very rich chocolate dessert Service 5/5 Loved the food and experience!

I've heard of this place for a while and have been very looking forward to a trip just to this so-called No. 4 restaurant nationwide. However, the experience disappointed me, especially I found it was not worth the 2.5 hours drive in total. The quality and quantity of the food did not match its price tag. The ambiance was quiet and decoration was nice. The service was good but not great. The lady at the reception did not seem to be familiar with the facilities in the dining hall. Throught the meal, I asked our waitress a question related to the ingredient, she didn't seem to know the dish quite well and she forgot to ask and come back with an answer. Their speed of serving the dishes were super slow. It took us two hours to finish a three-course meal. Now the food. We ordered sweet shrimp and smoked trout to start with, then shared the scallop, the pork chop and the fried duck egg as main courses. For dessert, we hadn't the lz chocolate which consisted of dark chocolates and hazelnut. There were some misses in most of the dishes. Overall, they did a much ko better job at seafood dishes than their meat dishes. In addition, the presentation work was much better than flavouring/cooking skills and the freshness of some ingredients. - We were served some bread at the beginning. The temperature was so cold though. - The smoked trout: The trout itself was fresh, came with very light creamy sauce which had a taste of coconut oil. It was creative in the way that it tasted like Thai food but not quite. However, I didn't enjoy the creation too much. The trout, despite its freshness, tasted very flavourless even if you poured the whole plate of sauce on top. I think the chef must have confused the concept of light and flavourless. - The sweet shrimp: This was one of the better dishes among what we ordered. I was so amazed by their beautiful plating (photo below). The highlight was the lemon jam. It help provided a perfectly balanced taste with the shrimp and quinoa. However, the shrimp tasted very old and fishy. - The scallop: I tried a bite from my friend's plate and liked that refreshing taste and texture quite well. On the side, it came with crispy radish. Somehow they made the texture of the scallop crispy as well. It was like a harmonic duet. - Pork chop: The pork tasted too fishy, not enough cooking wine from my point of view. The cabbage tasted old too. It reminded me of my childhood winters when there was no greenhouse yet. I had to eat stewed cabbage with pork soup for three months straight and sometimes the days-old cabbages had that rotten taste which scared me away from cabbages for a few years. The only interesting thing in the dish was the apple on the side. - Fried duck egg: The egg was okay but not great. The duck confit tasted so dry and aged. I didn't like this dish neither. The fried potato was crispy and tasty though. - Lz chocolate: This was a flawless dish. I liked the thick and smooth taste of the dark chocolate and it was not too sweet. Overall, at a price of $70-80 per person for lunch, you can get much better quality and quantity of food at other restaurants in GTA such as Scaramouche or George. This place is not worth the travel.

Part of a longer review "Chef Jason Bangerter is the mastermind behind Langdon Hall, and has been since 2013. Classically trained in French cuisine, his style melds classical techniques with contemporary execution. It's not uncommon to find cheese from a local artisan or foraged ingredients from the 75-acre property. Bangerter's gift isn't only skill in preparation, but presentation, aussi. There were many similarities in the plating to some of the world's greatest restaurants - Noma and Eleven Madison Park, to name a couple. A healthy glass of Cuvée Rosé by Laurent-Perrier was poured to accompany the first three courses. Its brightness encouraged us to settle into our comfortable seats over the next three hours and leave the pampering to Langdon Hall. Le premier cours était pomme de terre, but it resembled anything but. A fried potato nest arrived on an intricate display of burlap, stones and spruce. On top, three dollops of smoked parsnip were made to resemble eggs. Tasting the crispy potato nest - although elevated in its presentation - transported me to childhood with its smoky, Hickory Sticks-eque flavour. A very solid start, indeed."

Absolutely, unquestionably road-trip worthy. I've been to Langdon Hall (dining hall area) for lunch twice now - once for a regular lunch menu, the other for their holiday brunch - and both times were amazing experiences. The dishes are creative and inventive and rustic-while-still-being-sophisticated and homey-yet-elevated and, in terms of the holiday menu, somehow capture the spirit of the season. I know that sounds like a lot of pretentious blabbering, but I don't really know how else to describe how good the food is here. Pricey, quite the trip from Toronto, but definitely definitely worth it! ps: They have a more casual dining area which has a more comfort-food type of a menu. Heard from friends it's also really good at a lower price range. Will definitely try it sometime.

The most luxurious, 5-star, Road Trip-Worthy Ontario restaurant by far! Recommended by where.ca, Langdon Hall Hotel & Spa, the century-old, hundred-acre estate is located approximately 103 km away from Toronto, in the heart of Cambridge, Ontario. It is also a popular wedding venue! This 5-diamond award-winning restaurant is best known for its creative and excellent farm-to-table culinary experience and impeccable service. I was absolutely blown away by the multi-course tasting menu! The wine list was also IMPRESSIVE. I settled for cocktails, and they were amazing! I really enjoyed the Gin Blossom, and the Miss Wilks :) #mustorder. The food was unbelievable - made with fresh, in-house grown ingredients and from local farmers, foragers and food artisans. Each dish was presented like a piece of artwork - the Champagne eggs with caviar was presented in a cute egg shell; the duck liver pate was presented in a duck feet shaped goblet cup; and the scallops presented on that gorgeous forest-green marbled plate! The only thing I did not enjoy as much that evening was the truffle soup... it was a tad salty for my liking. But overall, a very, very enjoyable meal. I would come back again for another a food-worthy road trip :) It is definitely a fancy spot to celebrate your special occasion, or for a nice getaway from the city. Room are available at the Langdon Hall Hotel & Spa (check out that particular Yelp business page). . . . The All-Ontario, Road Trip-Worthy, farm-to-table Restaurant Series (5 of 17)

I had heard this place was one of Canada'a Top Restaurants and after checking it out I can see why. The Estate itself is huge and very elegant. A lot of history is in the building itself. When you go for food on a warm day, you are given the option to sit indoors in their upscale dining room or outside on their quaint patio. We chose the patio. We were greeted by our lovely waitress, Maddy, who got us settled and once learning we were interested in wine she offered to bring one of the two sommeliers over to help us. We were very grateful given their wine list was at least 20 pages long. Faye, one of the sommeliers, came over and got us settled with a very lovely bottle of wine and we very impressed with her choice. It paired perfectly with our choice of food. We got the lobster appetizer with cavier, the braised lamb and the green garden risotto. All of the meals beautifully presented and had impressive flavours. The lobster and lamb were cooked to perfection, with them both being some of the most tender we have ever had. We finished dinner with the Mille Fuille and Ice Wine, all of which were fantastic was well. I was celebrating a birthday and Maddy even hand wrote a birthday card for me, which was such a sweet touch! All in all, I would say if you are looking for a place that has fantastic food, upscale service (Maddy and Faye were particularly kind and helpful) and are not afraid of spending the money, definitely check this place out! It's worth the price.

The Wine Bar

My party of four visited during Taste of Oakville, and in hindsight, the evening foreshadowed…read moreitself early -- the restaurant's website was down with a 404 error, and we kept finding two different addresses (one apparently their old location). We eventually found it. Upon arrival, the door swung open and struck a seated guest -- a sign of just how small the space is. The restaurant was full except for one four-top (clearly ours), and we stood awkwardly in the entrance -- which is essentially inside the dining room -- waiting to be acknowledged. When greeted, we were asked if we had a reservation. We said yes. "Table for eight?" we were asked, which felt impossible given the size of the room. We clarified four, and were pointed to the only open table. No name was requested; we realistically could have just walked in and taken it. The space is starkly lit with aggressive bright white lighting that feels more clinical than cozy. The artwork is interesting and gives a gallery-like feel -- it seems the restaurant is aiming for a downtown Toronto wine bar aesthetic, but it doesn't quite land. Our table was missing water glasses, and the stemware was mismatched -- not in an intentional, charming way, but more in a "we ran out" way. Once seated, we weren't acknowledged or offered water for nearly 20 minutes. Not rushing guests is one thing; leaving them feeling forgotten is another. When our server finally arrived, the service set the tone for the evening. One glass of water was poured before he realized another was missing. He disappeared, returned with a glass, inspected it mid-pour, then walked away again (dirty glass). After several more trips and long gaps, everyone eventually received water -- about 15 minutes later. He was polite and friendly, just clearly untrained. He shared that the owner is also the sommelier, cook, and server, and that he liked working there because he wasn't expected to know much about wine -- an interesting admission for a wine bar. The owner greeted us warmly but asked only one guest about wine preferences -- ironically the only non-wine drinker at the table. The concept appeared to be sommelier-led, though this was never explained. If that is the intention, engaging the entire table is essential. That said, the wines themselves were enjoyable; the service surrounding them was not. The Taste of Oakville menu promised three curated 3-oz pours paired with a charcuterie board for two. The pours arrived unevenly and slowly, with little explanation of the pairings. The charcuterie boards were plain and inconsistent between tables despite containing similar items -- basic fruit, crostini, simple cured meats, small portions of brie, and two slices of truffle cheese. No crackers, spreads, or thoughtful touches elevated the experience, and presentation varied noticeably. Our second wine pour didn't arrive until our mains, and service moved so slowly we requested a wine list to order a bottle. We were told there is no wine list -- "we're not that kind of restaurant." Instead, all reds are $80 and all whites $70, and the owner selects the bottle for you after asking only red or white. The concept might work if explained upfront; without context, it was confusing. At one point, noticing my empty glass, our server poured me a random red -- which turned out to be the same wine as our first pour -- and then left without serving anyone else. We had to remind staff we were still waiting for our second curated pour. Nothing about the experience felt curated. The most surprising moment of the night came when our mains arrived. As we lifted our appetizer plates -- still holding olive pits, fruit rinds, and crumbs -- the servers told us not to worry about clearing them and proceeded to place our main dishes directly on top of the used plates. I'm still shocked. I wouldn't do that at home, let alone expect it at a Lakeshore, or quite frankly, any restaurant. Two of us ordered the tagliatelle, which was tasty but contained only two small pieces of short rib -- and was difficult to enjoy while staring at discarded rinds beneath the plate. The other two ordered brisket sliders: two sliders, no sides. They tasted good but left diners hungry. One guest joked they kept thinking the fruit rinds were fries -- unfortunately accurate. We tried to make the best of the evening, but it never delivered the cozy wine-and-charcuterie experience we had anticipated -- dim lighting, thoughtful pairings, something special. After finishing our meal, we requested our bills and reminded staff we were still waiting for the third curated pour. We were told "five minutes." Those five minutes never came. Eventually, wanting simply to leave, we paid a single combined bill and sorted it out ourselves. Dinner for four totaled $460. This was not the boutique Lakeshore dining experience we expected, and ultimately, it was deeply disappointing.

When you do it effortlessly, you call that Buvette, a new standard in Casual Fine Dining. I had the most wonderful evening at Buvette in Burlington. Yes ... Burlington. Far away but worth the drive. Step in and friendly salutations are offered, along with overheard lively conversations of happy patrons that have been looking forward to a night out. It's been a long few years, and Buvette has spent their time setting up and after only opening 8 months ago, they are shaking up the dining scene. The home reimagined and constructed into Buvette is gorgeous. The passthrough fireplace, with Buvette proudly emblazoned on it, plays the center piece. The sunken sunroom dining area, the intimate bar, stairs to the second floor dining area all pass by warmth of the fire. And of course, opposite to the fireplace is the glass encased small collection of fine wines. Though Buvette is a Winebar, let's not forget their handcrafted cocktails. The owner was cheeky and named them after businesses around the historic Village Square of Downtown Burlington.
