The service is amazing but unfortunately the food looks better than it tastes! This is the second time I try out this local eatery and second time feeling slightly disappointed. Overall a solid experience. I didn't have any drinks but from a distance they looked delish. It's a very lowkey environment and truly feels more homey than not.

I was impressed with the portion sizes of everything here! You will definitely be stuffed after a main dish. I got the fish and chips and the fish was huge and perfectly breaded. The tarter sauce was actually the star of the meal. It was a little slow to bring out the food but the waiter was really friendly.

Enjoyed a nice steak dinner here with friends last Saturday night. I enjoy the comfortable atmosphere and that they are 'obsessively local'. The service was friendly, and the wait for a table was less than 15 minutes. Chose the 28 day aged striploin with roasted garlic butter, roasted garlic mashed potatoes, and seasonal vegetables from the Winter menu. The Norfolk Country steak was of good quality. However I did ask for medium-well and it was cooked to medium only. The roasted garlic butter was a bit of a miss, but the vegetables and mashed potatoes were tasty. For desert had the $4 mini cheesecake served in a little mason jar. Cute presentation and a nice way to enjoy an indulgent treat in a small portion size. Overall enjoyed my meal and the service here and will be back..

This was a VERY tasty meal!

This was probably the best fried chicken I've ever had...and I'm a tough crowd! Crunchy on the outside, oh so tender and juicy in the inside! The "coleslaw" was inspired with slices of broccoli! Alongside the Peter Island Baco Noir this was a VERY tasty meal! Well done!

This place is just around the corner from our house. Perhaps it was just too convenient; I have no other explanation for why I hesitated so long before checking it out. I'm kicking myself for time wasted, now. Much like Artisanale Bistro, Borealis is big into the local farm-to-table movement (their by-line is "The Taste of Ontario"). And the freshness and flavor of the food are a fantastic argument for eating locally! The duck confit melts in the mouth; the greens are bright and crisp and flavorful; the ribs are fall-off-the-bone tender, sweet and savory and succulent; the vegetables all taste like they were picked in the garden that morning (and they're treated nicely in the kitchen, too). Service has always been good to excellent (Sean -- forgive me if I'm misspelling it -- you're a true ace and worthy of 5 stars all by yourself); best of all, everyone seems to be fanatic about the local food movement, and belief in what one does really shows. Cocktails are well-built, and there are a number of great local wines and beers. We got to try the Sunday brunch today, as well (10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.), which was superlative. We had a hard time deciding; the omelet of the day involved prosciutto, and sounded exquisite; the quiche of the day had gorgonzola, pear and walnut. Smoked trout benedict, double-smoked bacon benedict, crisp fried seasoned potatoes, coffee and Caesars were all excellent -- the Hollandaise sauce was creamy and emulsified and just lemony enough; the eggs were soft and perfectly poached; the English muffins weren't tough or chewy, and were easy to cut; the meats were delectably rich. Everything was the right temperature, and it arrived before we could consume the Caesars (i.e. fast). The coffee even arrived on a little tray, with a beautiful presentation of sugar and cream (those little aesthetic touches make me happy, and the quality of the coffee kept the Pacific Northwest coffee snob in me silent). I couldn't be happier that Borealis is just around the corner.

Great pub for our first lunch in Canada. The maple ale was really flavorful and the burger juicy and well seasoned. The outdoor patio was a nice place to sit and people watch. The food here is really good!

I got the Cornish hen because the picture looked so good but the meal was even better. Plus our server was super sweet and made recommendations that were all big wins! I had a cocktail and sorbet, as well. Thinking about coming back again tomorrow while I'm in town.

Went here for dinner with my parents a few weeks ago. We went for the wing deal on Tuesday's=$10/pound. The wings were really good and crispy. They also had $6 sleeman pints on special that night. I also ordered their Fried chicken tacos and they were very good. You get 3 vs 2 which is nice. Highly recommend this place!

This place was awesome! Mike was very accomodating. I came here based on a recommendation from my client and I was not disappointed. The wait was very short and the ambiance was nice. I came on a Wed which is date night, but i didnt have a date lol any way...i had for dinner the Turkey Burger with the red pepper jam on the side, a glass of Reif Estates Gewurztraminer, and Creme Brulee for dessert..all was great! I recommend stopping by...its definitely a local gem

The saddest looking raspberry atop their white wine sangria

I dined at Borealis a few years back and the most memorable part of my meal was a champagne cocktail. I chose to come back for drinks on my 25th birthday, big mistake. There were three of us and we were warmly greeted and seated, and that was where the service turned sour. There was only space on the patio for a party of two so they let us bring over another chair and we were told that we could move as soon as another table became available. We ordered our drinks, which was their Northern lights lemonade, berry mojito, and white wine sangria. The sangria came with a raspberry atop that had lost all of its colour ( see picture). You eat (or drink) with your eyes, and we were immediately turned off. My berry mojito had a few muddled berries but it tasted just like a basic mojito. There were definite quality issues. The mint was discolored, however it wasn't bruised from the muddling, it just must have been old. The northern lights lemonade looked cool, and it was the best drink of the night. After sitting at our tiny table for over an hour, we had come to the realization that were not being moved to a larger one. Having three large glasses and all of our personal belongs on the table, i was unaware that my sunglasses were set atop wrapped cutlery. Our server very rudely asked me if i could move my sunglasses so that she could use the cutlery on another guest. I am sorry but she knew that we were only ordering drinks, so the cutlery and plates should have been removed from the table at the beginning to give us more room. Overall, the drinks were not good, the service or lack of was terrible, and i would rather walk downtown then drive 20 minutes to Borealis.

Their patio at night in the summer is lovely!

The appetizers (calamari, mozza sticks, and wings) were great! Very solid choices although personally the wings (medium) were a little too sweet for us. Service was ok but the waitress did seem a bit stressed. The mains, however, were a bit disappointing. The burgers were just ok, my halloumi in the halloumi salad was burnt (although the salad itself was great), and the children's cheese sandwich was also burnt. The fish & chips were very oily. Usually I really want to like and rate local establishments well as I am a local myself, but burnt food is a no-no and unfortunately with kids I don't really have the time to ask for a remake. Great vibes for a good beer though.

Give me a break, there was beer involved and 315 is WAY more fingers and toes than I have! FGB is built out in an old garage. Not a lot of seating inside and a woefully small bar but it does have a nice patio area out back. It was pretty much empty when I arrived with only two customers. No one was at the bar and I ended up standing around for about five minutes while the brewer and another guy were getting stuff done. I was just about to walk out when one realized the server had left to pick up food for the other customers. No hard feeling as these things happen but they should pay more attention. More than enough said. I ordered a flight of four, out of the six they had on tap. The cherry sour had a very nice cherry aroma and flavor but to overly sour. SWPFTD might disagree though as she doesn't care for sours. The Dutch blonde ale was up next. Very light with a hint of a bready flavor at the end. Breakaway IPA was a light aroma and bitterness IPA with a little haze to it. Easy drinking as far as I'm concerned. Last up was Stone Hammer dark ale, which had a malty flavor but a little harshness on the finish. This was not hops but I didn't love this one. FGB seems like a cool little local hangout. A few more folks came in but it was surprisingly empty for a Friday at 5:30. I was in-town on a Monday and I know it's lockdown, but many good restaurants/bakeries were also closed. So aside from grocery stores + their breweries, there wasn't much to see in the City! Girl who was working was quite friendly and explained their 10 options they had for sale. I picked up a few cans. I was told that there are 3 different Fixed Gear locations: this one in the Junction has a taproom, the one on Alma does NOT have a taproom, and they recently opened up their "Canteen" which has a pizza oven. Apparently, they were hoppin' prior to the lockdown. I *may* update my review...after trying out my cans, so cheers!

It was a busy place when I walked in and fortunately has food as I needed some badly. They have a lot of beers and a few ciders on tap, I counted 17 today. I went with a flight of four, which felt very restrictive and not very inclusive. The Berserker raspberry lemon sour was up first. This had a very light color and good flavor to it. The flavors worked together very well. The Luminance DIPA was recommended by the charming young lady next to me at the bar. I hadn't chosen a fourth beer and told the beer tender I'd take his choice in the matter. He went with the luminance. And I'm glad he did. Nice flavor throughout. Solid beer here! The Absolute Elsewhere maibock was a good example of the style. Fairly light and easy to drink overall. Last, maybe, was the smoked honey brown ale. I ordered this since SWPFTD loves browns and reds. This was pretty tasty and I think SWPFTD would have enjoyed it.
