I've been to this place a couple of times when driving through Guelph. Has a super chill atmosphere right in the heart of downtown Guelph. Service has always been very friendly with good servers, that give just the right amount of attention. Must say one of the best fish and chips I've had at a pub. Perfectly crispy batter exactly the way I'd expect it to be with pretty large portions. I've only been in on a Sunday afternoon and has been moderately busy, but imagine Saturday nites would be jammed especially once school is on. She assumed that my friend INTENTIONALLY tried to leave without paying when she came back the next day to pay in the end. Wings were a decent size and had a good amount of meat on them. We ordered a pound of the Sriracha & honey and a pound of the Cajun butter. They were listed with 2 hot pepper rating but we didn't find them spicy enough so we added some Tabasco to them both. We were there to watch the Raptors game. Nice atmosphere. I have a son in second year university and he loves to eat. It's one of his passions. He anticipates food the way some of us anticipate a good book or a new movie. He attends Wilfred Laurier so we tend to be in the Kitchener/Waterloo and Guelph triangle regularly. And McCabe'a has gradually come to be our favourite go to pub. I picked him up last Saturday and we stopped in for lunch. My son ordered his usual; the Irish nachos. It is such a fun take on nachos with the lattice cut fries smothered in pico de gallo and cheese. My daughter and I both ordered the McCabe'a chicken burger which was so good. Hearty and satisfying with bacon and lightly battered in a crispy coating. I took my side salad to go. I find the staff easygoing and friendly. Clearly they are local students and seem to be pretty steady as I recognize faces. And the music is good if you decide to stay for a few more drinks to while away the afternoon. read more

I will definitely never recommend this place. The service is really bad, felt ignored all the time, half of the time we had to look for the servers . I came here on a Saturday afternoon. The pitcher had multiple stickers on the inside of it from beer bottles that came off in the dishwasher I assume and our glasses were dirty. The food was very unexciting. Not to mention the service was like pulling teeth. You had to practically tackle a server to ask for anything. Probably the most disappointing was the prices of the beer. Be aware you are going to pay $22 per pitcher. There are no specials here. Road trip on the Civic holiday nothing much was open and we were hungry so we stopped there service was good and friendly. I've been here a few times now and it has always been good. The food has always been top notch. The service has always been good. Recently I was in and had the chicken wings, They were fantastic. The suicide sauce was awesome. They said its made in house with fresh ingredients, by one of the women that works there. Impressive. The waitress was pretty funny when I ordered the suicide wings. She warned me several times that they are "HOT" and not a joke, almost trying to talk me outta of it because she has had countless people send them back because they are too hot. This is a great place to visit if you're looking for that typical "pub" atmosphere. Their location on the corner makes it easy to find amongst the many other downtown bars, and I really like the garage door "walls" they open up when it's a nice day. I stopped in with a few friends one night for a drink, one of bus being the DD. When the server took our drink orders and our DD declined a beverage, rather than being annoyed that he wasn't ordering anything (which I see very often) she happily offered him a glass of water. Good place to go and sit and relax with a good meal and beer. Very nice atmosphere. Seems sophisticated with dark stained wood everywhere. Attractive and genuinely cheerful servers also help this pub. Good selection of beer. Normal bar food served here. Best is in summer when the large windows are open to the street. This is my favorite restaurant in Guelph. There are plenty of options on the menu and the portions are generous in size. The price is right and the wait staff is always pleasant. Plenty of beers on tap and games on the tv's. No trip to downtown Guelph is complete without a visit to McCabes. read more

I dropped by for my favorite, wings! They have a great selection of flavors and the best deal on food in Ontario. In the afternoon, the wings are 36 cents each. With a multitude of flavors to choose from, they are among the best. I have tried other meals there, which are good but not exeptional. The restaurant is on a popular corner in Guelph and has garage door type windows which are wide open in the nice weather. An excellent dining atmosphere. read more

AS I come here quite often, I can tell that this place has much higher potential, but it is typical pub benefiting only from its location and UOG students' demand for beer. We come here regularly, especially if there are two games on we want to see because they usually have multiple games playing. Great atmosphere, lots of TV's, good pub food, good drink selection, and friendly service. There is also a really good wing and pitcher special that isn't really well known unless you ask about it. I and my two friends were looking for a good and decent place to eat and ended up in McCabe,s. We were seated in a booth as required, great! The young woman who seated us happened to be our waitress as well. We were seating there for quite a while and nobody came to take our order. I had to call another waitress to give our order but she can't take it because we were already assigned to the first one who seated us. She called her though. She got our order for drinks as a starter. It took a long time for her to bring it over because she was all over the place. The beer came warm most probably because it had been seating in the bar waiting for pickup. Nothing worse than a warm beer. We asked her for some ice. I had to get the ice myself from the bar because it never came. We ordered another beer. Again, the waiting was ridiculous. My friend got up to retrieve the beer from the bar, otherwise, by the time we get it, it will be warm again. Because of the obvious inefficiency of our waitress, another waitress had to bring our food. When "our" waitress brought our coffee, since all our plates and utensils were taken away, she even didn't bring a coffee spoon for stirring. In short, food was mediocre, service was terrible. I'll never go back there again, nor will I recommend this place to anyone, OBVIOUSLY. read more

I was starving after 10PM and this place saved my life with quality food! Everyone must try their beef gravy poutine, not sure if they have it on their menu yet but it was the feature of the day. (owner said he is thinking of putting it on the menu soon) I also like their calamari (the one that is fried with cornmeal) and their liver dish. I enjoy watching games while I am waiting for my meal. It just seems to speed up the entire process. The waitresses are all very friendly there.
