Servers do not come on the patio, when it's the only place to really sit in the establishment. While there( not sure if it was because I am black) but I made eye contact with the bartender 5-6 times just for her to continue to ignore me and serve the couples around me. I had a party on the patio that did not get drinks because we could never get served. We left and will not be back. For this establishment to be downtown I expected better. Barcades aren't too common in OC. In fact, the only thing we really have that remotely resembles a barcade is good ol' tacky Dave and Busters and Round 1 which doesn't offer liquor. I'd have to drive to LA to find an authentic barcade. Anyway, I love games and I love booze. It was an automatic win in my book, so on my first night in Phoenix, my girlfriend and I walked over to Cobra to check it out. There was a line at about 9ish, but it moved fairly quickly. We got in and walked straight to the bar by the entrance. My girlfriend and I were SHOCKED by how cheap the drinks were. Are the drinks in Arizona this cheap everywhere? It was $15 for two Tito's and cranberries. At home this would have easily been $30 before tip, maybe more depending where you're at. After getting our drinks, we scoped out the arcade and what games it had to offer. It had basically all the classics like House of the Dead 2, Area 51, Street Fighter, etc. The best part??? DANCE DANCE REVOLUTION EXTREME. Probably the best version of DDR in my opinion. DDR Max 2 is the 2nd best, but I digress. The games are only a token to play! As if the cheap drinks weren't enough, cheap games were icing on the cake. The only downside to cheap games is that people tend to take advantage of it and toss tokens in whenever they'd lose. Actually, the other downside is that people like to slam their token on the cabinet and make it VERY known that they had next. To the guy who did that while I was playing Rampage with my girl, yes, dude. I know what the token means. You don't need to announce it and you definitely don't need to jump in while my girlfriend was playing still. Aside from that, the place was fun. The staff was really cool. They were actually willing to talk rather than brushing us off. Also, we asked someone about a local convenience store on our way to Cobra. The dude offered the rest of his pack of cigs to my girlfriend when she just wanted to bum one and the rest of his tokens he had in his pocket. If you ever read this, thanks bro! read more

Cobra Arcade Bar noob here. It was CRAZY-Mega-ULTRA-Super-BUSY during First Friday when we visited. I definitely felt old having to practically force the guy checking IDs to take mine but it was worth it. The place is fun and you get 10 tokens for checking in on Yelp! Another ten points to CAB for light and fruity cocktails like Krazy Kong and Princess Peach (as well as for the alliterations). The arcade offers about 40 vintage games including classics such as Q*Bert, Rampage, Super Mario Bros, Mortal Kombat, Street Fighter, TMNT and more. Also, pinball games, epic lighting, and live DJs are nice touches. Stop by earlier in the evening so you don't get PWND by long lines. On our way out the line was INSANE! Wrapping around the corner towards Film Bar. Easily 25+ people waiting just to go inside. Clearly, it's Cobra Cade FTW! read more

Old school arcade games and alcohol - ALWAYS a great combination. Came on a Friday night around 10PM, there was already a line! Went by quick though and we were inside getting drinks and playing games. The drinks on the menu have cute names like "Invader" and "Princess Peach" and all relatively affordable ($7-8). This night, there was also a DJ spinning with a small dance floor. Some of the games did not work and ate coins (boo!) but some games had free credits and we were able to play. Games include: Pin ball machine (broken), QBert, Super Mario, Ninja Turtles, Galaga, Street Fighter, etcetc. Check in to get 10 free tokens! However, the bartenders do not look super happy to be giving away free coins (it took a while for them to get back to us, as if we would forget..?) Good amount of seating and tables to place your drinks in case you get tired of playing games. Each machine also had a little stand so you can leave your drinks next to you while you play! Would highly recommend! They do not serve food here, but there was a food truck outside where you can order and bring your food into the bar. read more

I went to Cobra Arcade frequently when it first opened years ago. Since then, it has only gotten worse and become a terrible addition to Downtown Phoenix. Fights and incidents are common, and the staff and security guards don't help because they themselves are overly aggressive and contribute to the problem. In August, someone I know was hit and killed by a drunk driver who was leaving Cobra Arcade. This place does not keep customers safe and does nothing for the well being of the surrounding community. I hope it shuts down for good, Downtown would be better off without it. read more

Definitely the best arcade bar in Phoenix. Wednesday night is ladies night, which means you get free tokens with every drink purchase. They have greatly reduced the amount of pinball machines that they used to have, and the arcade selection is pretty small. But on weekend nights they have live djs, and the vibe is pretty lively. A friend and I went downtown for a concert and stopped at Cobra for some drinks beforehand. We checked in on Yelp to score some free tokens, and started ordering some drinks. Before we knew it, we were 3 drinks deep and on the 7th stage of the Simpsons Arcade Game. Needless to say, we did not make it to our concert. All of their mixed drinks are delicious and our bartender was super cool. My favorite drink was the Crazy Kong. This Jameson and banana combo was so unexpectedly delicious. It was topped off with banana chips, which I was so skeptical about but YO -- it really made the drink with how salty the chips were and how it balanced the sweetness of the drink. The atmosphere is also chill and I love all the glow it has from the arcade games and neon signs. I would definitely hit this place up more if I lived in town. I had a great time at this arcade bar last night. It was following a Yelp event. I'm normally not open to playing video games but 10 free coins for checking in.... why the heck not? We played TMNT, DDR, Tetris and some other arcade games that brought back so many nostalgic memories as a child growing up. The bartenders were nice and quick once they took our order. I asked him to surprise me and he gave me a Garbage Pail Kid... it had Effen vodka, some sort of beer and a blue mix topped with 2 sour patch kids. They have no system to check real IDs and like to claim that IDs from out of state because they are too brain dead to realize what is real and what is fake. Videogames and beer? What could go wrong? No, how much happiness can you take before you pass out is the real question. Granted, we came here on a rather boring Wedbesday night so not much was going on. The place is easy to spot, mainly due to the flashing lights and deafening metal music playing (seriously, you can hear it blocks before you even get to the place.) Once we got past the eerily suspicious biker looking doorman (was checking our IDs 3-4 times at the door then following us in and giving suspicious us glances while we were patronizing the place still not good enough proof we could drink my friend???)...rant aside things went great once we were there. I started off ordering some Hard Rootbeer called "Not your Father's Rootbeer" (isn't it just beer once you add alcohol?) It was my first time having such a concoction and not only was it delicious, but it was strong enough to get a buzz going. Now, onto the meat. The arcard itself is really small. They have the time shooters game, Pac-Man, Rampage, Tekken, Centipede, Mario, pretty much all the staples except for DDR I think (which is understandable considering it's a bar for adults only.) Romance was in the air, I date action going on all over the place. They give you free tokens with your drink purchases so as long as you keep drinking, you can keep gaming! The place is small though and there isn't much seating so expect a wait for the machines when it's a busy night. Overall, I like this place. Always good to find some old school arcade action. It's not too pricey and the free tokens keep you going. I'd like to see them expand the game selection though. I've been coming often just to relax and have a good time with my boyfriend. I mean a bar insIde of an arcade? That's just a good combination! There's a selected day where if you buy a drink you get free tokens. You don't have to drink to play the games, you'll still have fun. There's also a DJ and days where they sell tacos or hot dogs outside. It does get super busy on Saturdays so beware. During the week there's quite a few people but no need for a line to get in. So much 80s retro game fun. They had a majority of the machines I played when I was a young teen growing up. Drinks are food but a little spendy I thought. At the same time though since you're dealing with classic joysticks, you don't want to be too buzzed. Love the lighting and the live DJ. My favorite games I played were Pac Man, Centipede and Burgertime. No negatives aside from I just wanted more games there and more off street parking. A little much here. We were denied service at the bar, mind you, we just started. The bartender denied our service initially saying we need water. Again, we just started. My BF and I were kissing (a little) and that is all she can view. After talking to another bartender, the 2nd bartender said the 1st bartender denied us because we were too "quiet". The 2nd bartender brought us drinks but when asked if "is it because we are gay" she yanked the drinks away (after paying for them) and walked away. This encounter is the first time, in my entire adult life I have experienced this. I feel that since we are gay and kissing the 1st bartender denied us and the 2nd went with it. This is only the second arcade bar I've been to, but it sure was my favorite! This place is really cool. The people working there are really nice and friendly. I can't comment on the drinks because I didn't have one, but they all sounded really good and had fun names. I loved all the games they had too, and not too expensive. I'd definitely come with cash though to get tokens. The yelp check in deal is pretty sweet too. I had a lot of fun here! Almost beat the Ms. Pac-Man score..I was so close. Place is awesome - flat out awesome Good staff, good bar, great floor plan, and of course the games. If you can't have a good time at cobra bar you may be hopeless or just made of stone, because this place is a fun spot downtown, it's rad and fun in every way. Plus you won't get a lot of jock-douchebag-bro types here, it's more urban young people, college aged, older millennials, etc, pretty good crowd and clientele without a douchey bar feel. for around 20 bucks you can get yourself a huge pile of coins and drinks and have fun all night. read more

It's cool and all if you arrive before 8pm, afterwards..forget about it. I went to my car to put a cardigan away (took like 3min) and by the time I came back the line was about 40 people long and couldn't get back to my friends inside. Atmosphere is very grunge, emo, hipster which is totally rad but the place is just so freaking small. Place gets stuffy really fast and your constantly bumping into people regardless of where you are. I like the idea of the place but there isn't enough "games" to really call this place an arcade or even a bar to be honest. I believe my walk in closet is bigger than this place. Don't even let me get started with the girls restroom, you cannot fit more than 2 people, it's an awkward triangle shape and very nasty, looks like a bathroom pulled from a SAW movie, in a matter of fact I think saws restroom is nicer..oh and bigger lol! As for the bar, it's unorganized and confusing. They allow their male employees to abuse to women!!! Disgusting service and bar. Save the two hour wait. Go to the bar next door instead. We had heard good things about this bar and decided to go and celebrate our friend's bachelorette party. one of their Hispanic male employees was trying to get through the dance floor, he put his hands on me and pushed me so hard, instead of tapping me on the shoulder to step aside. I understand it being loud due to the music, but there was NO absolute reason for him to push me so hard I hit the person next to me with my body and almost fell. I balanced myself and pushed him back because I was going to allow a man to just lay his hands on me. He looked at me then at his short Hispanic stumpy bartender who wore a hat and here hair in a low bun and aggressively told me "don't you fucking push him he's guiding me" Excuse me but another woman being okay with a male pushing a women is disgusting. They should be ashamed of themselves for hiring such unprofessional people. They clearly have no respect for women there. For the record, I was not drunk, I had one lemon drop which was also mediocre. I know they deal with belligerent people all the time, but I was standing on the Dancefloor looking for my group. Everyone else either tapped on the shoulder or leaned in to say excuse me to move, but he had to put his hands on me. Forget that. I've never let a guy lay hands on me why would I excuse his behavior. Also who plays all I want for Christmas is you in May? Pretty cool bar! A 90's themed bar with arcade games is the spot to be for happy hour. They had the old Street fighter, mortal combat games and NFL blitz. The drinks were also names from characters or events in the 90's, I had the garbage pail kid which was a mixture of mad dog 20/20 and vodka. The scene gets heavy after 7pm with students from the college make their way over to play games. The parking up front sucks because the parking spaces are skinny so I would find parking on the street for the safety of your car. If your around that area you should check it out. read more

If you're looking for something different and unique to do, especially at night in Phoenix, check out this arcade/bar. It's open air which is really nice on hot Arizona nights, sometimes has a cover charge (so be prepared) and has FOOD TRUCKS in the parking lot. The bar is centrally located and the bartenders are courteous, knowledgeable and FAST. This place also has a couple TVs (without sound) but their choice of movies will have you watching while waiting for your drinks. The night I went, they were featuring Idiocracy. There are about 5 different pinball machines, I'm going guess about 30-40 classic games ranging from Frogger, to Super Mario Brothers and every 80's Wrestler and Street Fighting game in between. Anti-police bar??? I remember when this place was being built and how excited I was, but I moved before it was completed. Heard from a few friends it wasn't that good, but still wanted to check it out. So finally went there a while ago, and after standing in a long line security started patting our group down before we could enter. My friend who is a law enforcement officer, and was NOT drinking showed them his ID and told them he was armed. They told him he couldn't come in with his gun and would have to go put it in his car. 1. Why would security NOT want armed police there..just in case? 2. That's actually illegal. ARS 38-1113 "a peace officer shall not be prohibited from carrying a firearm" "5. When consuming alcohol at a licensed liquor establishment, except if a peace officer's employing agency authorizes the consumption of alcohol in the performance of the peace officer's duties." He wasn't drinking, and told them that, an attorney then tried to enlighten them. They didn't care and said to call the owner if they wanted. We took off and will never go back. read more

Got there at 11 and literally waited outside till 1am, the security and staff were letting a bunch of random people in from the club on the other side m, it was very frustrating. It was hit as hell out this night and by the time I got in I didn't even really wanna be there anymore but it was my cousins bday and she wanted to celebrate. My mood went from being excited to have a night out to I'm ready to go home. Also the alcoholic beverages were gross. I had been drinking before I got there, (horonitos) so I continued to drink tequila and whatever they gave me was gross definitely had to be bottom shelf cheap stuff because when me and my finance went home we threw up. Both friends of mine, so I may be bias but not lying that they're two bad ass djs and a few of the best in the whole state here in AZ!!! I love Cobra bar!! The vibes are so chill and fun!! Arrive early to avoid the lines on the weekends! Super trendy and popular spot these days!! But so worth the wait! Drink prices not the cheapest, but not bad. My favorite of their specialty drinks is the Krazy Kong! It's what i ALWAYS order every time I go. Also, I enjoy the princess peach drink! During the week I've never been beside on a Sunday night which is way more chill compared to their Friday's and Saturdays nights. A bar with enough energy as a club feel! A date and I decided to check this place out on a Monday and ended up having suuuch a good time. It was Man Crush Monday so tokens for him (aka us) were free! There is nothing I would've changed about our visit here. This place really brought back so many childhood memories. Playing Super Mario, Ninja Turtles, Pac Man and Street Fighter while drinking a Four Peaks Kilt Lifter was literally perfection. The vibe was cool, the music was a blend of EDM and 80's.
