The bagged-and-boarded comics are loosely organized by DC, Marvel, and Indie, with the individual titles generally alphabetized. They also have a section of bundles, which is always worth a look if you're hunting for complete runs. Unfortunately, nothing in the bundles made it onto my wish list this time. After spending a considerable amount of time working my way through the DC and Marvel sections, I wandered over to the magazine racks and discovered even more comics--some bagged and boarded, along with plenty of raw comics that were definitely in the low-grade, $1-bin neighborhood. The downside? This section appeared to have absolutely no organizational system. Consider it the comic-book equivalent of an archaeological dig. Bring patience. And possibly snacks. I also checked out the video game section to see if there were any must-haves hiding behind the glass. I found a few games in the locked cabinet, but some were priced about the same as buying a brand-new copy. I'm not really sure how that makes sense for a resale store. If I'm buying used, I'm expecting at least a little bit of a "used game" discount. Overall, Bookmans is worth checking out if you're hunting for comics, especially if you enjoy the thrill of the hunt. Don't expect everything to be perfectly organized or easy to find. Be prepared to spend some quality time flipping through racks, digging through the less-organized sections, and hoping the comic-book gods smile upon you. I didn't walk out with a massive haul, but I did find something worth adding to the collection--which makes the hunt worthwhile. Four stars for the potential, the selection, and those occasional hidden gems. ‍

I was shopping, and waiting for my trade offer for some items I brought in. I asked to look at a Collector Comic Book that was locked in a case. I asked the staff member if I could take the book out and look a it because I wanted to make sure nothing was cut out of the comic. He immediately became defensive, and his attitude became hostile. I said "if there is anything cut out it's not worth $25 and I want to check. If I damage it while looking at it, I'll pay for it." His response wasn't helpful or understanding, it was pushy and abusive. "You should just get these while you see them. No one has these, and I've never seen one in our store since I've been here". I said "I have been collecting comics all of my life, and if there is anything cut out, it's not worth $10 to me". Again, instead of being friendly and asking anything helpful or asking questions, he was pushy and forceful, and became even more irritated when I pointed out the water damage on the back of the comic and told him I didn't want it. He was very unfriendly from the start. A toxic person, to be as kind as I can be. I received notice that my trade offer was ready, but I cancelled my trade offer, and walked out of the store with the items I had brought to trade. I WILL NEVER RETURN AS LONG AS THAT PERSON WORKS THERE. When I advised the staff of what happened, they seemed disinterested in doing anything. I asked them "how can you allow a person who treats customer this was to work here, and why would you want to work here if the business allows this?" They all looked at me with blank stares on their faces. A manager did talk to me, but it was the same attitude as the rude employee. He didn't introduce himself my name. He didn't try to find out the name of the employee. His attitude, like the rude staff member, was an attitude of not wanting to be there, an attitude of feeling irritated that they have to actually talk to a customer and assist them, an attitude of superiority and entitlement, an attitude that their customers do not matter to them and that they don't respect people in general. I advised their manager on duty that I work as a customer service consultant, and the employees treatment was unacceptable. He did offer complimentary credit, but did not indicate how much. I declined and told them honestly "I don't care if you pay me a Billion dollars in cash, I don't want it if that person works here. What he did was unacceptable and he should be fired". I am sure they won't do anything, and I want everyone to know that Bookman's is a TOXIC company who does not appreciate their customers, and they will screw you over and abuse you if you go there.

I thought when I walked in I would be filled with nostalgia and think back to the good old days where you didn't have to pay rent or bills. This was NOT THE PLACE. its small, the arcades are crammed in there and they over price way to many things. i went in there to buy a nintendo 64 console for 40$, over the phone they said it comes with an expansion pak. I told them cool, i will be in there this week to buy it. I walk in there, when I ask for the n64, i open the lid and it is only a jumper pak. I asked them where is the expansion pak that you said would be in there. they told me they stopped doing that, and i explained to them i called a couple days before and would go in when i got paid, they told me oh well if i dont like it i can go to fallout games or buy it for 20$ extra!!!!!!! so i ended up paying 60$ for a system that they promised me would be 40$. after that, i look around and they want 45$ for mario kart! that is twice as much as what it is on ebay. they also have a "sealed" conkers bad furday that they tried to pass as a SEALED copy, which i know it is not. these people think the customers are always wrong and that we are stupid. i am very displeased living in tempe and not finding a good store, i hate fallout because they are overpriced also, but at least the gaming zone is close by, do not buy n64's from here because they give you an aftermarket controller and mines did not work, i told them it didnt and they said oh well you can buy a new one! way to stiff people. read more

I went here last week to pick up my niece rare games. This establishment has a big selection of games, great atmosphere, great staff, and great prices, everything you look for in a gaming store. They have a bevy of games going from the NES all the way to Wii U. I think this is the best place for video games in the valley for several reasons. One thing I like the most about this gaming center, you can rent a game in the game lounge, so even if you don't have the money to buy something you can still have a lot of fun (I personally liked the variety of games they have to play in the gaming lounge). Overall, Gaming Zone has quite a good selection of old retro games and a few new ones and their prices are very fair. And one more thing, they have tournaments every Saturday and if you just want to trade your games for store credit or cash they are fair on his prices and deals. read more

I thought I would give them a second chance like I did with Fallout or Game Zone, which Gaming Zone totally ripped off that sweet old lady's trademark name, switched it up, now everyone confuses Game Zone with Gaming Zone, not cool you poor brothers I never thought there would be a hot video game store, and as in hotI mean, i was sweating so much, I felt I was getting dehydrated and their set up for the actual game store lacks selection and everything is over priced and theres really nothing good. the customer service was lacking, a lot, the person there was on his phone the whole time not even bothering if i was okay or not i had my 2 kids with my and my new born, yes finally had the baby of my picture i would not come back because they are fraudulent and their tournaments are the only thing keeping this store running read more

Ok so i walk in this place hoping to find some of the rare games that i am missing in my collection and guess what, they have what i was looking for and even more, i talk with the guys that work there and ask them their opinion on Chrono Trigger and we end up talking about it like 2 hours, i end up leaving with 3 rare games (Earthbound, Chrono trigger and a free Conkers Bad Fur Day) yeah i said free, they are having a Black Friday Weekend B2G1F so i will be coming back to this store really soon. read more

When we got there, there was literally not a single chair free. Instead of turning us away, the staff gave us permission to use a private event room for free. I would give these folks my money before ever going to a big box store for games. Prices can be seen online and they are competitive with Amazon and other big stores, so why not support local?

They have an assortment of sports cards and memorabilia and friendly staff. The bad: If you need to sell any autographs or memorabilia make sure to call ahead. Only the owner is allowed to make those types of deals and if he's not in on that day you're out of luck. The friendly staff did let me know most small card shops have this policy though!
