My stars are for the amount of games they had + the fact that once I got them all the way home to NM they were working games, which was good since returns are not an option that far away. What was lacking was how long I had to stand at the case and wait for someone to open it for me to get the games I wanted to purchase as a gift for my husband. Granted, they were busy as heck, but I was also standing there with my cane, weary from a 2 day conference (and looking it), and was ignored by passing staff (who were rushing around frantically, to be fair) twice when trying to raise my hand and wave them down. I fully believe they just need one more staff member to really flesh out the experience in this store, given how many people were in there and how much those two were running around trying to do everything. I'd like to make it clear I'm not usually one to care if I have to wait, even with my cane, I think I was just particularly frustrated because there was nowhere to sit and I'd long past run out of available steps or energy for the day, but it was my only chance to get to this store to get my husband a gift. Perhaps, fear of having to leave without it if my legs gave up colors this more than it should. But that's why I've only docked it down one star and no further. Staff was kind enough when they finally got a minute to help me. Said all games were play tested (with an addendum of 'I believe'). I bought 5 items. All items were actually working and husband was happy with his gifts once I got back to NM. On the plus side, they have a huge selection of all kinds of games as well as some cool Fanta flavors behind the counter in the little fridge. This is illegal under the Arizona consumer fraud act A.R.S. 44-1522. They do not offer you your money back, I think that's pretty anti-consumer, especially when the product they sell is broken. While we were there, we asked if they happened to have Super Smash Bros for the N64 and they said unfortunately no and that if they get one in, it doesn't last very long. We said no worries and went on our way with the controllers. About an hour later, we got a call from them saying they had just gotten the game in!! There is a great collection of games and accessories. The games are organized very well and there is a nice amount of space so you can look around. They also have boxed games from the classic area and newer as well As small signs. The employees are super nice and friendly to talk to if you have a question about a game or he will help you find what you need. The prices are honest and it seems like if something looks wrong on the game, they will clean it or fix it before selling it to you. In early April I purchased an original Xbox from this location and the experience was outstanding. I asked to test the unit before purchasing and I was happily obliged and was treated to a quick game of Soul Calibur 2. I was also picking up component cables and an extras Controller S. The employee ringing me out was incredible and he even tossed in the component cables at no extra charge. Fast forward to my visit today on May 27, 2021 and it was a total 180 degree difference. First issue. There was a male employee who was wearing a black polo and black slacks who decided to tell his fellow employee a story of when he used to work for a mom and pop video rental store and how amused he was at the amount of married couples who rented pornography. This is unacceptable conversation on the sales floor no matter what the business is. I would like to note that I was there with my 14 year old son. We don't normally visit retro gaming stores to listen to stories about porn rentals. Unprofessional. Undignified. Inexcusable. Indefensible. Second issue. I was interested in picking up a Duke controller for my original Xbox and asked to take a look at a couple of them to make sure they felt good and that the buttons were working well, they are after all 20 years old at this point. This same employee who likes to talk about pornography rentals while working took an irritated stance and said "sure, we clean them and make sure they're working, they have a seven day warranty." Indeed enough the controller was in great condition, but I didn't need the smug attitude. Third issue. Two of the three original Xbox games that we picked up were scratched heavily and I was told they would be cleaned and buffed. I said that was great and could we test them as well once the cleaning is done? I was immediately answered by the employee who likes to talk about porno rentals at work with a resounding "absolutely not." I honestly did not know if this was a joke and simply said "thanks, I appreciate you." I was given yet another smug attitude and snarky response with "all our games are warrantied for seven days, so there you go." I asked "you all don't have an Xbox back there you can test those games with real quick?" I was answered with more snark and another parroting of "we have a seven day warranty." I told him that I found it really hard to believe that a used video game store would not have the means to test used video games before selling them. I was given a rather lame response of "yeah, that just, um, something, yeah, not going to do that." Interesting how in one visit I was allowed to test a used game system and games, yet this time I was told "absolutely not". It should be noted that there were two original Xboxes available for sale and would have taken less than five minutes to connect one of them to the LCD monitor behind the counter and simply put the game in to ensure it loaded properly. Two employees, two different visits, two totally different experiences. I left purchasing nothing. Business must really be booming post pandemic for them to give attitude and smugness and let a repeat customer walk out not spending a dime. I live over 30 miles away from this location and I have been more than happy to make the drive because my experiences at this location have always been stellar. Not this time. I was not going to take a flyer on a "seven day warranty" when it's a 60+ mile round trip adventure. This Fallout Games location has been my retro game home for quite sometime. I purchased my Genesis clone there and multiple used Genesis games. Now, I won't be back. Fallout Games is not the only retro establishment in town. Not with 1Up Games and The Gaming Zone offering cleaner, brighter, and more consistent customer experiences. read more

OK prices but when my wife went in to get a ps4 and paid partly in cash/change you guys made her feel like an idiot, and that was lame of you. she had come in with everything already counted and separated nicely and offered to wait for you guys to count it. one of your guys counted it wrong and then another told her you would make a policy so people wouldnt do that anymore. she's never coming back there because of how embarrassed she felt, and that's really messed up. part of working in retail is dealing with weird transactions sometimes. be better to your customers. dont judge people based on how they pay, and dont make them feel like shit for it. very disappointing experience. never coming back here. read more

This place has a very large collection of retro games as well as a lot of other things people who shop at retro game stores would like. I highly recommend this place to anyone looking to get their retro gaming fix. I traded in two Xbox 360 slims and a handful of games. They didn't take the majority of games I brought in, but they took a few. I brought in about 20 and they took 5. Not bad considering they were just sitting in my garage for a couple years. $25 bucks for two consoles and some games isn't really that bad in the retro game trade-in market. I opted for cash instead of store credit. I'd say this place is worth a stop by for anyone who is looking for their retro fix. read more

I've been going to Fallout Games since they had only the one location in North Phoenix off Bell. When I first found them, I could not believe the selection of older games they had. I would drive out there from East Mesa all the time just to get the titles I wanted. When the Tempe location opened, I was beyond thrilled and that became my go-to for anything gaming related. As far as customer service is concerned, I can definitely see how some people might feel that they are a bit lacking. However, it's completely understandable. The lines are long and the customers can be a little difficult from what I've observed. Each customer is given one-on-one service but it does take a while if there are a lot of people. Everyone has questions and the guys behind the counter do their absolute best to deal with these time-consuming inquiries. I do not envy their job. The customers can also be the most arrogant bastards, too. God, some of these attitudes I've seen. Seriously. So if I get up to the counter and the employee isn't smiling or seems a little rushed, I don't ever take it personally. They've had a day, I'm sure. Fortunately, that's only happened once and on every other occasion I've been met with a friendly greeting and attentive service. This place is great, the prices are awesome, and they carry titles you won't find in person. It's like e-Bay but tangible. I will never go anywhere else for my gaming needs. read more

This store is awesome!! I am not that great at video games so I rarely play but my fiancé & nephew play video games a lot. I had never been to this store but let me say I had such a wonderful experience here today! They have so many old systems, along with new systems that this is a dreamers paradise! I mean, it was my paradise & Im not even a true gamer haha! So that is saying a lot!! They have a section where you can pay for a bag of legos which is super cool, because my nephew LOVES lego's. He especially loves building the characters & at this store you can build 10 for $20!! I was there looking for another game for my nephew & I chose the Hulk game, which said it was $15.....the guy working there said it was actually $8! Now thats a great deal. Not saying that is always going to happen, but Im glad the guy was honest because he could have sold it to us for $15 and we never would have known! Kudos to them for being honest!! The absolute worst used game store I've ever been to. They won't compensate you if they sell you something that doesn't work. This is some of the worst service I've ever received anywhere. I was physically threatened by a worker when I was asking questions about how returns work if the game is broken. If they sell you a game that doesn't work then apparently it's your fault for shopping here. Apparently they absolutely hate explaining this to people because he finished his explanation with some threats to take the games I had in my hands and "drop my ass" outside the store. I came back a few days later to talk to the manager about the incident, and the manager had been expecting me and told me that none of what I had to say was that big of a deal. He offered a "sorry" at least. I've looked through many reviews here and so many different people online have horrible things to say about how they were treated here. So I used to go to fallout games all the time a few years ago. I moved out of the area to Maricopa and haven't been back in a while. On 6/2 I contacted to store to have a PS Vita memory card put on hold and drive to the store. When I arrived I had a trade I was going to make to cover the memory card and anything else I potentially wanted. Here is where my issues began... 1. After about 20 minutes my trade was completed and instead of call me to the counter and breaking down the trade for me, the staff member yells across the store that he can give me $52 dollars for my stuff. I found this kinda disrespectful as the rest of the store did not need to know what I was being offered and the clerk could have done this in a more professional manner. 2. When I decided that all I was going to get was the memory card, only $12, I began to inquire what the each of the games were priced at for trade. The clerks seemed to be annoyed at this even after I explained that I live about 30 miles away and probably won't be back son to use the excess trade. This was completely unacceptable. These games are my property and I should be able to with them as I please without your clerks getting upset. 3. This is what sent me over the edge and ensured that I will never return. While deciding what games I was going to trade to reach the $12 I found that one of the clerks had begun to buff and resurface one of my games that I was not going to trade in. This was completely unprofessional and just wrong. This game was not yours yet. I had not signed over ownership to the store and you had no right to alter my game. The clerk then had the audacity to tell me that my game had already been buffed before. This was not the case as I had own this game since it was new. For all of these reasons I will never return to fallout games. I relish that the store will go on without my business, however I hope this review impacts others decisions on what store to use. read more

Fable III used AND looks brand new for $11?! OH YEAH! I'll take it! I stumbled upon this place because our little cousin wanted to get a game, and he had been here before with his aunt. The place was filled with classic games all over the walls and even to play. I'm guessing classic original games are back and in style again. Plus they are just fun to try or have a flashback from the 80s. The store is clean, open aisles to walk through, great prices on the games and the customer service from Gary and Rich is phenomenal. These guys were very nice, educated about the games, and went out of there way to make everyone happy. Great job guys! :) All the high star reviews are true! This place is SO much better than any other gaming place I've been too. My husband loved it too. He was a kid in a candy store. What a great find! I think you should take a trip to this store, even if you don't play. Get a game as a gift. Just to experience this place, it is something special and unique. read more

If I was rating Fallout Games on it's customer service alone, they'd be getting 4/5 stars. Staff was helpful and friendly-- both over the phone and in person. Didn't mind if I stayed a few minutes after closing time to make my final selections. Location: -strip mall, right off the intersection of McDowell and Southern Selection: -I went in to purchase some Dreamcast games (reliving my childhood, don't judge me!). I called in ahead of time and was told they had several of the titles I was looking for, but that the North Phoenix location would have even more. -only 2-3 small shelves with Dreamcast games, many duplicate titles, not much selection Quality: -almost ALL of the cases were in serious disrepair. Many were missing instruction manuals, had broken/cracked cases. -cannot check the quality of the discs themselves prior to purchase as they are kept behind the counter. I was told I have 7 days to check to make sure all the games work. Do they not do this? Price: -varied from game to game. Mine ranged from $3-$10 per game. Does not take into consideration the state of the case or disc, is only based on the availability/desirability of the game. For example, a $10 disc I bought (Toy Commander) had a shattered case and the disc was scratched. For consoles and newer titles, I would definitely consider going back to Fallout Games. Buying used video games from ~14 years ago is a recipe for disaster and I have a feeling that many of the games I purchased will not be playable. Hopefully, I can test all the discs before my 7 day limit is up. I plan on buying my Dreamcast games on eBay and Amazon from now on, as I can determine the level of damage to the disc and case BEFORE I purchase it, and make my purchases accordingly. read more

SUCH a nice alternative to places like Gamestop (which is just awful in every way) or Bookmans (which I love but is always pretty picked over/limited) for your used game needs. The guys there are very nice and knowledgeable, the deals pretty good, and they always have a decent selection of things. I do wish they had a little more Sega Saturn stuff, and that the third-party accessories they carry for older consoles weren't quite so cheap/lousy - neither of those things are really their fault, but it's the only thing keeping it from 5 stars. I came in on a Saturday and it was quite busy but I got to look around and check out some of the gaming stuff they have. I was listening to one of their employee's talking to someone about old school Pokemon games for Game Boy colors and they were trying to track down some games. They definitely have a lot of games and a lot of memerobilia which was pretty cool. The prices are pretty fair, but the recent Pokemon craze has kind of wiped them out of most of that realted stuff and alot of their Game Boy games. Bought some games here all in good shape and they have a professional buffer they use to get rid of scratches. I Bought slim ps2 here as well, they accidentally gave me a faulty power cord but i went back there to change it out no problem. Check everything before you drive home just to make sure. Most recent visit i went there with two games i got from a different store, they charged me like 3.50 each game to buff out the scratches and they both work great. Other stores do not even have a buffer or let you use it. This place is generally pretty busy so be patient. read more

Walking into Fallout Games is like taking a step into a video game wonderland. Video games from almost every console ever released line the walls and fill the shelves of the store. There are boxes for every console along the ceiling, and they have even set up televisions with consoles in order to try out all the games. For the die hard game fans, they have a couple cases that feature harder to acquire games, as well as video game memorabilia. I picked up a few old Atari catalogs and a Centipede comic from the early 80's. The staff are also extremely knowledgeable on everything concerning video games. I overheard that one of the employees went to college to learn more about games and technology, which is solid evidence for how passionate these employees are. I would recommend this store to anyone who is looking for video games, especially for games that are no longer sold in stores. read more
