I pulled a low tire pressure warning on one of my tires and knew I needed a repair. As luck would have it, this happened on an "atmospheric river" storm day. I called to make an appointment and was told to bring it in. Jose greeted me and took a look at the tires. He checked the pressure on all 4 and found the one with the problem. He removed a large nail from the tire, patched it up and put it back. I was in and out within 25 minutes. I love the meticulous attention to detail and and efficiency. My battery died on my minivan today. So I jumped it from home and drove around town a bit to make sure it had a chance to revive. I noticed my gas was close to empty so I went to get gas. At the station the minivan died once again. The staff were SUPER helpful. Even though they were closing the staff member went out of his way to help me assess the problem and ultimately I did need a new battery. Without hesitation the awesome technician took out my old battery, installed the new one, and hung around to make sure all was good. I visited here for a SMOG check on end of April in 2020. I was wondering if they are open because of the shelter in place order. They are open! Their service was Pretty quick and nice communication. Im a mechanic so it is very rare I take any of my cars to a shop, however, when I do, this is where I take them. I do it because of their knowledge more then anything, but for people who don't have a high mechanical aptitude, rest assured Raphael is the most honest shop owner I've ever met. WHOH- what a place this is! Five stars all the way! My tire had a slow air leak ever since I brought this new baby home. I dropped my car at the Cadillac dealer twice, nobody there seemed to be able to help me. The tire air leak could not be fixed. For months, I decided to live with it, by airing up every 5 to 7 days. I stopped at this Coastside Auto Repair (CAR), which is right by the Alliance Gas Station. I mistakenly thought the shop and the Alliance gas station was the same entity. Nope, it's two separate businesses! I asked for air, and Rodrigo came and immediately aired up my tire. As I gave him a tip for a super fast and outstanding service, Rodrogo asked if he could fix the tire for me. I informed him that the Cadillac dealer could not find the air leakage twice and it might not be an easy job. And I was on the rush to get to work so it would need to be done immediately. Amazingly, Rodrigo accepted the challenge and confirmed that he would find the culprit, fix the tire air leak problem, and get me out of here in twenty minutes. I was super ecstatic! With patience and determination, Rodrigo's hard work paid off. He removed two nails out of my tires. He performed the job the correct way -- by removing the tire from the wheel. WHoh! What an outstanding VIP service this place has offered. It's really tough to get good help! I'm so pleased with this place. The Coastside Auto Repair and Service shop is clean, reliable, efficient, well organized, friendly, and professionally run by Rafael and his team. I feel competence, honesty and integrity by the CAR mechanics, where I don't usually find in other auto mechanic shops! I was charged for 30 dollars for the two nails, which was totally fair and reasonable. I trusted rafeal as a mechanic up until my last Experience with him. My car kept dying out at stop signs. He kept my car for 8 whole days until he he "fixed" it. 400 dollars later and my car was still stalling out at stop signs. I called him to tell him and he basically told me he was too busy and he could take it back in two days. No thanks. Did not even try to offer a refund since I payed for a fix that did not fix the problem. Now I am back to square one after paying him for a problem that was not resolved. read more

Raphael was our contact person. We took car to him for pre-purchase inspection. His inspection lasted about ten minutes. He did not test drive car. He opened hot radiator and allowed coolant to escape. Even though there were no fluid leaks he claimed an engine oil leak. He claimed car was not square even though we have recent four wheel alignment report. He claimed to be in business for twenty-five years. Thankfully we have avoided him until now. Coastside is in Pacifica, adjacent to the Chevron gas station on the corner of Linda Mar Blvd & HWY 1, across from the beach - their profile pic shows the previous Alliance Gas brand, not Chevron, so a bit confusing if trying to ID the location from it. I took my car in and I feel like any other mechanic would have "fixed" the problem and sent me on my way. Rafael informed me after carefully checking my car multiple times there seemed to be nothing wrong with it, just needed an oil change. WOW! Did I feel dumb lol! But, I'm so happy I wasn't dealt a dis honest mechanic who would have made something up to have me coming back. Wow indeed. With 3 older cars that need TLC all of the time I'm super happy to have a trustworthy and reputable shop down the street. Ironically our family has had cars serviced here before, I just didn't know it (I'm kinda new to our family). I've been hauling our cars pretty far to get good service and all of the time there was a great service station right under my nose. No problems at all, I remember I was on my way home and saw a car with a flat tire right there by NorCal. I told him to stop by Coastside auto they'll fix your tire. He followed my over there and they helped him get back home. Even after they were closed. Lucky for him that they're so nice there. However, i can now add a deferment to auto mechanics after using Rafael at Coastside for both my work day car (Jeep) and for keeping my classic car in good working order. He has consistently shown me ways to save money even using his business (ie new tires bought direct and then shipped to his shop to install) as Rafael knows the value of good workmanship at a fair price and that word of mouth referrals are the best way to keep, retain and attract new customers. I have used this shop for the last 10 years or so. This last visit was very shady. Let me explain, I had overheated my Cadillac and had it towed from Livermore to Pacifica for a diagnosis. It was determined it was the waterpump so it was repaired and I got my car back the next day. Drove it to work in Modesto and it overheated going through the Hayward hills, I pulled over and had it towed with my money back to the shop. They said it was a bubble in the system and is okay now. I told Rafael I needed a smog for registration, but the check engine light was on? Not seen before but storing a code now. So after hours of diagnosis and a 400 doar or so bill I got my car back smogged and supposedly ready to go. I drove two miles and the car overheated again. This time it was the headgasket, a very costly repair, costs more than the car is worth, so a $200 tow,$400 Diagnosis, $800 waterpump totalling $1300 was spent on a car that is no longer driveable. But wait there's more... I purchased another Cadillac, same model and year, I got scammed and this car over heated on the way home, the guy I bought it from wont return calls gave me a bogus address..my fault love and learn. So I towed it to Raphaels, since he owes me something after ruining my previous car. He checked it out said the guy put something in the cooling system making it last a short time. So I was royally scammed buy the seller. Rafael said he can try a block sealant that may buy me some time so I said go for it. Two weeks later I got a call the car will be ready, he said he had been driving it to Geneva exit on 280 and back and was holding pressure, better each time. So i said okay i need a smog to register please smog it. I got the car back about a week later. Rafael gave me the paperwork explaining all the work he did and it added up to around $487, which he said we were even and did not have me pay. I drove off the lot and the coolant light came on less than a mile away. I pulled over and added over a gallon of water. Drove about another 4 miles and the temp kept climbing, eventually overheating on Manor Drive. I called Rafael to tell him and he could not have been less interested to know what happened. He added he was only able to drive the car to the back of the valley and back that was all, so he blatantly lied to me telling me the car was holding pressure on his drives to Geneva Ave. His whole story was B.S. I have been as I said a loyal customer here at CARS, had maintaince and repairs done on all of my vehicles and to be treated with lies and dishonestly is beyond me. I have recommended this place to friends in the past giving Rafael new customers, but no more. I will never use this crooked establishment again. read more

They changed my oil, but that's as far as they went. The safety inspection was worthless; they didn't say anything about the rear brakes being metal on metal. Two weeks later I was still hearing a sound occasionally so my friend persuaded me to take it into my regular mechanic and I had to get it repaired. I was falsely reassured and could have gotten into real trouble! Twice the price of my San Jose mechanic, and they didn't even top off my fluids or call me once the job was done. I had to call them. The person who referred me to Coastside was male and maybe that accounted for his better experience. read more

Driving home at 7pm and my right wheel was making terrible scaping sounds. I pulled into this gas station and repair place and it was closed. Luckily Jason, one of the repair technicians pulled up after closing hours. He happily took my wheel off, inspected my brakes and pads and took care of the problem, all at no charge! I'm sure he was tired but wanted to make sure it was safe for me to drive the 30 miles I needed to get home.
