Okay, truth be told, I never actually brought my car in. I called them because my check engine light on my 1991 Mercedes 420SEL was on. I needed to get it looked at because it was due for Smog. I talked to a guy named Eddie to see if they could take a look. Mind you, I called 2 other places and they told me they don't work on cars that old. Eddie said he'd decode the check engine light for me. Apparently there's no OBD port on this car, so decoding the check engine light is not as easy as plugging in a tool, or so I was told. Long story short, he said if I was only concerned about passing Smog, I should try disconnecting the battery to clear the check engine light, then just bring it to Smog Check Center to see if it passes. Lo and behold the car PASSED! Next time I actually do need service for this car, I'm definitely bringing it in to Eddie and European Motor Werks. 5 stars for giving me some free, useful, advice and saving me a ton of time. read more

My BMW was in need of a new oil filter housing, and while I usually do repairs like that myself, this one beat me. Eddie got it done (and a few other things while he was in there) perfectly. Eddy was very professional for my Porsche service. The rate was reasonable and was negotiable.

I went for a taillight a simple taillight repair and they got the job done. Communication was lacky, but they went the extra mile to pick me up from my house after the job was done (although they hesitated once I was already at my house). The biggest drawback is that I got my check engine light on AFTER I got the repairs done, and when asked if they could take a look they made it seem it was my fault and they couldn't work on my car anymore. Extremely unprofessional. Now I'm dealing with more problems than the ones I originally went in with. read more

One way that I rate businesses is how they stand behind their service. I have been going to Eddie since our Audi Q5 was off warranty. He has always done great work at a reasonable price. I had an issue with my coolant system back in July. Eddie did a great job with a pretty big job. Last weekend, I drove from SF to Geyserville and when I arrived, the coolant warning light went off. I called Eddie and we exchanged photos of the issue. He suggested the best way to get home if we couldn't find a service center up there. Luckily, we did and got a temporary fix. The next morning, I brought the car to EMW and Eddie replaced the part in about 30 minutes. I'm not sure the issue was related to the July service, but Eddie picked up the tab anyway. I waited for a while to post a review as I'm new to EMW and my first service (transmission repair) for my Audi was quite complicated and not straightforward- as a consequence, it took several weeks to complete given the need for parts and the time involved. Needless to say it wasn't cheap, but given what was required it was worth the wait. Eddy is a nice guy and straight shooter- he communicates well and asked if I wanted to see the progress he made as it went along. Importantly, he saved me from having to completely replace the transmission which I truly appreciate. A short while later my battery died and so I called Eddy and asked if he could help me out- he told me to bring it in right away and he did it on the spot for a reasonable price given the cost of the battery. Now my car seems as good as new! Eddy is a trustworthy person and the shop is close by my home in Pacifica. My former mechanic in San Bruno whom I trusted implicitly has recently retired so it's good to know that there is a place nearby that I can count on. Highly recommend! read more

Extremely disappointed in the service- a faulty radiator was installed right before heading out of town for vacation and everything leaked out and the car overheated. Had to get tow, rental for the 2 week trip. When I got back, they replaced it but did NOTHING for the inconvenience and shoddy work even though they said they would try to reimburse for the rental. This review is LONG overdue. Josh and Eddie are the absolute best! Several years ago, I took my 3- year old Bentley to the dealer because the roof of my GTC was malfunctioning. The dealer tech told me that the problem (somehow) involved the windows and the cost to repair would be (about) $5,000. This was a 3- year old B that I paid over $200k, now I'm supposed to pay $5k. A friend suggested I take the car to European Auto Works; I was skeptical, but thought , nothing to lose with second opinion. Long story short, I left the car with Josh and he said he'd assess and contact me next day. Mid morning next day, Josh called saying problem solved. My immediate reaction was: I never authorized any work! How much are you going to charge me? Josh calmly replied, NO charge. It was an easy fix. I am now a client "for life"! Josh and Eddie are smart, knowledgable AND HONEST. They have provided regular service to my Bentley since that first experience. I love working with European Motor Works. I have a VW bug and i know i can't take her to just any mechanic with the way everything is set up - stacked. I had some transmission issues a couple years ago and EMW has reached out yearly to see how it's doing. I also love that they explain exactly what's wrong, the pricing of each part and pricing of labor. Everything is very transparent pricing wise. European Motor Works saved my car! I inherited a 2002 Mercedes convertible from my parents, however the top was broken and would suspend in mid air. This happened on two different occasions, and living the apartment life in San Francisco, I don't have a garage where I could store it so it was pretty scary at first. Thankfully, I took my car to European Motor works to get it repaired, and they were so diligent as to explaining what was broken and the best way to fix it. Eddie has been my mechanic for 9 years, I can't imagine going to anyone else. He's incredibly knowledgeable, always happy to explain what my car needs so I can understand (without making me feel a like a doof!), and has always been fair and honest. You never feel like you're being sold a service you don't absolutely need, and his work is thorough and impeccable, with superb attention to detail. I think it's fantastic he has his own shop now, as I have great confidence in his abilities as both a mechanic and a business owner. Even though I live in Oakland now, Eddie Garza is still the only person I'd trust to work on my car. He's seen me through a 1976 Firebird, 2003 MR2 Spyder, 2005 350Z, and now an Xterra. Thank God, We've been driving around with a check engine light that nobody else was able to solve until we went here. Others have cleared the code, but Eddie actually removed some bits, fiddled, cleaned 2 sensors, and voila!!! No more check engine light. At every other place the code came on again after 20 minutes driving the car followed by a "leave it and we can charge you more for doing nothing speech". Yelp did not let me down when I searched for an auto repair shop that could help me when I was in a bind earlier today. I was driving an I3 BMW today in the city when it had warning signs come up on the dashboard regarding the tire pressure. Not being very mechanically inclined, I didn't know whether this meant I needed to fix something right away or whether I needed to casually check my tire pressure the next time I had the chance. Put that together with being in the midst of rush hour city traffic, and I was a bit frazzled. Josh at European Motor Works was incredibly helpful when I called him from the side of the road, trying to figure out what to do. Ironically, he was much more helpful than my Allstate Roadside Assistance number, whose customer service agent could only send me someone to tow my car - not to help me check the tire pressure and troubleshoot the (what looked like to me) major warning lights about tires that had come up on my dashboard. Josh offered to take a look at my tires for me since I was not far away from their shop. He did, filled them to the proper level, and showed me how to check my "Vehicle information" screen in the future, which I'd never known how to use before because I'm still familiarizing myself with the car. And the cost for this emergency, help-your-fellow-human service? $7.00. I owe a major thank you to Josh and European Auto Works - thank you so much for your help today. read more
