They are closing this location soon. We are very sad about it. The employees didn't know the date of closure.

After repeated poor customer service experiences, I've decided to stop shopping at the Tacoma Bass Pro Shops and will likely take my business elsewhere altogether. At the Tacoma store, asking for help consistently feels like an inconvenience to employees. Checkout interactions have also been cold and dismissive, both in tone and body language. Recently, my wife asked whether she qualified for a military discount. Instead of explaining the requirements, the cashier abruptly asked, "Where's your military ID?" That exchange reflects the way we've been treated there on multiple visits. The one exception to the lack of attention is the credit card pitch. Employees are quick to approach you about signing up as soon as you walk through the door, sometimes so persistently that it feels awkward and intrusive. I wish that same attention went toward helping customers once they're shopping. I had a similar experience at the Cabela's in Lacey while purchasing a firearm. I didn't know I needed to sign in on a touchscreen before approaching the firearms counter. When I went to ask for help, the employee made me feel foolish for not knowing the process. Customers should be treated with basic courtesy whether they're spending $10 or thousands. These repeated interactions have cost Bass Pro Shops and Cabela's my business. I'll be shopping with a competitor.

The boots will take you through rain and mud and snow. They're made to take you somewhere. Somewhere rough. Somewhere real. The tents hold up in wind, but you will hear the wind whistle through the seams if the storm is strong enough, because Mother Nature will never bow to man's interventions. You pay a price for that. The press sings songs about REI like it's the holy land for outdoor men and women, and maybe that's true in parts. But you don't go there for ceremony, you go for the tools. They make good tools. You don't want to trust your life to something flimsy when you are out there, far from the roads and the towns, when your survival depends on gear. REI has it, in its clean rows, with its well-meaning salespeople, and its prices that sting a little but still make sense. It is the day-to-day, too. The jacket for the morning walk. The pack for the hike with your daughter. The water bottle that won't quit, no matter how many miles you pour through it. It holds up for the small things and the big. It holds up for life. It isn't perfect, but neither are you. Still, you trust it.

He is quite knowledgeable about Mares products and helps give information to people who want to cut it as a working diver. That aside, I love this place. It is fun to just hang out. You may have to work at a conversation but once you get the staff talking they are a lot of fun. Chris, the manager, does everything he can to get you the products you want. I mean he instantly calls other shops and it's hard to have everything you would want on hand, so Chris helps with the anguish of waiting with reasonable deals and consistent updates. The staff are top knotch! Mr. Holland taught me from Advanced up to Dive Master and I had so much fun the entire time. The shop does also offer lots of FREE dives to certified divers. They also offer regulator service, but it goes up to Seattle which is not a problem at all. This place is a second home.

I have never, not once, made the drive down to Tumwater to find that they did not have what I needed. They have a little bit of everything and keep low to medium quality items in their store. Not granted, they do have a some high end items, but that is not really their market. They have a wonderful blanket sale and great sales throughout other times of the year. They also have a wonderful return policy. They keep your receipts in the computer so you don't have to worry about that. And I also bought a bridle once where I couldn't try it on without taking the tags off, so I took the tags off and then it didn't fit my horse. I then took it back a couple of days later, handed them the bridle and the tags, and they took it back with no questions asked. They have all sorts of English and Western gear. What you will not find if you go there are Charles Owen helmets, GPA helmets, high end tall boots or high end saddles, bridles, breeches. You will find nice quality items for reasonable prices.
