I was on my scooter since I have no car. Backpack on my back. Went to go in and the brunette at the register immediately told me my scooter had to be left outside and my backpack with/by her.all unsecured. I'm a 60 year old church going lady. Unless I haven't looked hard enough, this is the only place I can find the brand paint I like using for my business. I run a small business and get busy so I take advantage of the free delivery since my paint qualifies for the free delivery. I've done it a few times, the first without a hitch, it was great. The second it was delayed (smack in the middle of this sh*t storm we're dealing with) so I let it slide. This most recent was ridiculous. I placed my order Wednesday, it said estimated delivery Thursday. The day came and went, nothing. Friday came and went, still nothing. I call Saturday morning the lady said they've been EXTREMELY busy and that it was going to be delivered today (Saturday) I said no worries, I get it and thanked her for getting me updated. I personally don't understand why a call wasn't made one of the 2 previous days it was supposed to be delivered but whatever, I moved on. Fast forward to Saturday afternoon. I get a missed call along with a voicemail. I check the voicemail and it's of someone hanging up. I call the number back to find out it's Ace and that they couldn't deliver my paint in the morning. Why did no one call in the morning, that's why the phone number is on the paperwork. She then proceeded to say they couldn't get into my gated community... did the driver read the instructions? Aside from physically being out there to teach the driver how to push the buttons, I gave VERY detailed information. She said the code wouldn't work. I asked if he pushed the first button as stated in the instructions? I mean it's very simple stuff when you approach a gate code box. Homegirl seemed a little annoyed with me after asking those questions. Funny, I was the one getting the annoyed with reaction, ok. I was offered a second attempt the following day which I denied because what's the point. Delivery dude couldn't read the explicit instructions the first time, how is he going to get it right the second time? No thanks, I'll go pick it up. read more

I really like these people for the great customer service and for their good selection of local items. They're always friendly and accessible, and more important, they go the extra mile. Looking at previous YELP reviews, it looks like I'm not the first to have a run-in with Chris, the store manager/Owner(?). I had a bona fide issue with a product they sell. As a 15+ year customer of this location, I came in with the attitude that I wanted him to know about the product's problems and that he should consider pulling it from the shelves so that other customers did not get harmed from it as did I. No raised voice, just a loyal customer wanting to make my favorite hardware store better. Chris immediatly went on the defensive and with a voice getting louder and louder, defending the fact it was the product's fault and mine, not seeing that the store had a reputation to keep. I did leave, yelling at him (sadly) with the words "15 years a customer, Bye Bye Ace!" I now shop at Oly Supply, an Ace affilaite. read more

this is some of the worst customer experience I have ever witnessed by employees. When entering the store, the only cashier was perched on the counter with his feet up at the register. when I asked if they carried an item, he shrugged his shoulders and said, "I'm not sure". As I looked through the store, I asked another employee who directed me to a wrong aisle. when I found a third employee, he was very helpful and escorted me to the correct aisle. Then as I was getting in line to check out, the cashier still kicked back with his feet on the counter, was asked by a gentleman entering the store if they carried toilet paper. His response was, "I sure hope so". Then he was asked where it was, and again he replied, "I'm not sure". the gentleman then asked if they carried garbage cans and his reply was, "yep", then walked away. I ended up leaving my cart there and left the store and will never return. read more

In the past I have been in and been helped by a a lot of the employees. I will admit, sometimes when Chris (manager) helped me, he kind of gave me that feeling like I was stupid or I should have already known how to handle what I was doing. Whenever I had an issue that required a manager, I always saw him coming out of the back hallway (Break or lunchroom?) I also overheard him one time laying into one of his employees about they were not working fast enough. Not really sure what that means, but that is just something you do not do where others can hear it. I feel really bad for the guy he was snapping at. Anyway, Chris is no longer a manager (Not sure when that changed, been a few weeks before I had been inside, but I might go in a little more now) at this location and people seem more helpful. I could only guess as they feel less stressed with him no longer here? The four employees that I have always found the most helpful recently were Marion, Jenna, Ben and Trisha. I will always try to find or ask for one of them when I go inside. Ben seems to know a lot, if I am with anyone else in the store and they are not totally sure how to help, they seem to call him over for help. Not sure if he's the new manager, but he's really nice. read more

I really try to support local business, but every time I go here they are out of stock of items, and because of its size, they already don't have a lot of choices compared to their competitors. I've even gone here first to purchase what I can and then go to another store the for the rest. Also, they will only make duplicate keys if they gave you the original. Deceptive price on flower pony packs. Sign said buy 2 and get one free with the price showing of $1,49. Took my 24 pony packs of flowers to the cashier and they rang up my pony packs, but the price was $1.69 for each pony pack The coupon for the buy 2 get one free, stated a value up to $1.49.. Also the manger (Asian fellow) that I complained to was not so nice about the whole situation and argued with me that the free was valued at $1.49, which I did get free, but still the price was $1.69 that I was charged for the first two flower pony packs. So if Ace Hardware is going to put up a price on the flower pony pack display with a sign stating $1.49, then they should honor that price and not charge a different price at the cash registers. I went back out front where the sign was and asked the clerk to come over, she went back inside and the manager that I spoke to at the cash register came out. He got in a huff when I said their sign says $1.49 and is misleading to what they will actually charge. He ripped the signs off the display, and then tried to have me come back inside to adjust the price. They had their chance to do so at the beginning. So I doubt I will shop anymore at this Ace Hardware store on Cooper Point in Olympia, WA. So miss the Southgate ACE Hardware now that it is closed. So I will be taking my business to the Lincoln Creek Ace Hardware on 93rd in Tumwater off of Interstate 5. At the least the people at Lincoln Creek are nice to their customers. read more

Although Ace didn't have what I was looking for... and the prices are definitely not competitive with the big box stores... I have never been in a hardware/home store with more people trying to be helpful. In just five minutes I had four different employees asking me if I needed help, or actually helping me. Consistently great customer service. Friendly, helpful, knowledgeable- just what you want from a hardware store. Also, they are the only store in Lacey/Olympia that I've found that carries pet-friendly ice melt. Lowe's, Home Depot, and Walmart don't carry it. Is it too much to ask that as the pandemic persists, that businesses would ask their customers to wear masks? I was in the store this morning, and there were two men in front of me in line. One had no mask, and the other wore his mask below his nose. I asked the maskless one why he had no mask, and he told me I should stay home and shop online. I asked a staff member, and he said the man *should* wear a mask, but unless unmasked customers are more directly approached by staff, and even refused service, this will continue. I realize employees are in a bind, but I will not feel as if my health is a priority if the rules requiring masks are not followed, and if businesses do not do anything to enforce them. read more

The people that work there are not knowable with anything in that store. They are very rude. There prices are off the roof. Most of it is junk. For instance, a hose connector at Home Depot that I needed was $5.24 for a pack of two. They wanted $14.97 for one at ace. Rude plus stupid plus high price means don't go there. Trisha at the checkout counter had terrible customer service. I forgot I needed two buckets which were approximately 15' away from the register. Instead of letting me grab them real quick, she set my stuff aside then proceeded to let the whole line go, before checking me out. It took me 5 seconds to grab the buckets! Then, when I finally got there, she totally forgot who I was and that I had more stuff behind the counter. Like get your head out of the gutter lady! read more

I looked st my watch, by this time it was 8:58. I requested she let me in to purchase one quick item before 9, but nope, they close early because why bother honoring business hours? Very impressive support for their on-line ordering and curbside pick-up. Ordered 11 items on-line and it was ready for pick-up that afternoon. The Ace associate brought it out to the truck and loaded it all in the back. Super service. Just tried the same at Lowe's and was told they were running about 6 DAYS behind in their curbside readiness. read more

What I like about Ace Hardware is the fact that you'll always have someone who works there who will assist you. It is a smaller store but we always had been lucky to find what we went there for. We also like the fact that they also carry the Benjamin Moore paint line. read more

Of course, sometimes I go to a true local shop, but if the price isn't right or I need some item only a big box store would have, Ace is the place to go. I went to Ace yesterday to get a replacement washer for my garden hose sprayer. Twice they gave me the wrong part, which meant driving to the store 3 times.
