Realize there are two rooms to this store, the back room seems to be a lot bigger. So if you don't spot what's on your list in the room you enter from the street, go through the double doors & check the further back room. This store has an "old-timey" feeling that's a very appealing alternative to Home Depot and the like. My only complaint is with the demeanor of certain front of store employees who seem like they'd rather be anywhere else-- no smiles, no greeting, no "how can I help you?" I'd love to have a go-to hardware store that doesn't come in a big box so I'll still shop at Olympia Supply. New ownership has drastically changed the atmosphere in what used to be a welcoming, helpful local business. At 4:15pm I called to make sure we could get a fishing license, was told we had until 5pm to come in and get it (they close at 6). Made it by 4:35pm and when we asked who to see, we were rudely informed the one person who issues them wasn't there. When we explained we spoke with someone 15 minutes prior who confirmed we had until 5pm, we were snapped at and and sent to a side room with mumbles over her walky talky to summon someone she insisted wasn't there. We then tried to talk to the other worker who answered the phone-he had no concept of time. She appeared high on something, and unable to carry a conversation, let alone conduct business. I'm stunned by their rudeness and absolute inability to conduct business or have any semblance of professionalism. read more

Our family has been popping in at Olympia Hardware from time to time for as long as we can remember. Albeit a bit pricey on some things, yet quite reasonable on others. Good quality sourced products combined with their vast knowledge and willing to go the extra mile to satisfy their customers needs, especially in a pinch, make it worth while. Importantly,the fact that their store is so clean bright and organized is what really appeals to me as it is easy to find items in a timely fashion. They should hand out little rainbow flag patches along with all the tools to complete your next backyard project. i mean, i'm pretty gay every day of the week, but there's something super deep lez about buying a roll of chicken wire and a shiny new shovel on a saturday morning. really, though, the guys who staff this place are awesome. they sort of shrug off my idiotic questions, gesturing toward the right aisle. prices are fair, the selection is solid, the convenience of the location can't be beat. i always find everything i need here and a little something extra, like fancy gardening gloves or high tide tables. additionally, the olympia supply company may have saved our lives during the great christmas blizzard of december 08, and my gratitude for the supplies we needed runs deep. read more

It reminds of the hardware store in Oregon near where I grew up (which is long gone like most hardware stores like this). I generally ask help for finding items, as the front and back rooms have a ton of stuff. The back room has ever screw, fastener, and fitting you might need. For my regular/irregularly purchases - it is quick and convenient stop. I've been coming here off and on since I was a kid. Let me say, as a woman shopper, that they treat me as a smart capable person. Even though I'm not especially savvy about tools. I've been looking for an electric mower and was wanting the Earthwise 14" electric mower. They ordered one in for me on Friday and it came in the following Wednesday. I arrived at the same time as their delivery truck. They unloaded it and packed it right out for me. I used the mower this morning before the usual crap rain showed up. The grass was 4-5". The mower mulched its way thru, almost bogged down and came out like a champ. It's light enough that my tennis elbow on my right arm could handle it and my broken middle finger on my left hand didn't hurt much. I'm very happy with my purchase. If there is something you want and they don't have it in stock, but can order it.. Get it here. They are courteous, they don't bullshit or haggle you up to the higher priced merchandise. We walked in clearly not knowing what we wanted, after standing around for a bit a staff person said to us in an aggressive tone, "what do you need?" (imagine it with the stress on the you, as in what the bleep are you doing in here) Honestly, I responded with a giggle because it was just so ridiculous, and said jokingly "what do I need? what do you need?" The staff person clearly got mad and started ranting. My partner had to tell him to chill out. They didn't have what we needed, and we left. I would have chalked it up to a bad day, but when we got home and told my partner's dad, he said that he always feels like they are too busy being macho and look down on their customers, like they are too good to bother with you so he never goes there anymore even though it is so much closer to the house. read more

I will not shop here again! I purchased a couple things that did t work out for me. So I went to return these items with receipt in hand and everything still in its package unopened. The gentleman at the register said we have a 30 day return policy so I need to speak with my manager about this return. He comes back to tell me he can't take the return as there is a 30 day return policy. I said there is nothing on the receipt that indicates this, how would I know your policy? He points up to the ceiling and says see that sign. I was flabbergasted. I've never seen that sign. I grabbed my returns thanked him and walked out the door. Warning if you have a return bet back within 30 days or you get to keep the items! read more

I had a tricky problem with my new dishwasher hookup, and the manager helped me quickly, and went absolutely all out to resolve the problem. He was both creative and persistent, and I ended up spending very little instead of having to call a plumber, which was my fallback plan. I come here for my do it yourself supplies for my turtle enslosure, they have everything I need except the eggcrate (which most small stores do not carry). Olympia Hardware has at least one of everything. I have been in a few times for rubber boots, gloves and tools. I also like looking at the random stuff I probably won't buy like the Pipe wrench as big as my arm. But only recently did I discover that I had never been in the back of the store, and by back I mean rest of the store. ITS HUGE. They have stock metal for welding and every nut or bolt or bit of hardware ever back there. Its a great old local hardware shop I love em. read more

We love this hardware store and we live right near the Capital building so it is conveniently located. Today, we went into OSC to return 3 bottles of caulking and an electrical cord that all had the packages intact and they would NOT return these items, or even give us store credit, because it had been longer than 1 month since we purchased them. We needed to repair some things on our boat this spring during a trip down to Olympia, and we googled hardware stores nearest us and found Olympia Supply Company! People were helpful, and more importantly, they had the stainless check valve we needed for our bilge!! Pretty cool! Great mini-museum of old photographs and tools on the walls there too.
