Chris's Insulation came up, he had great ratings, he was super close by, so after calling a different service and going to voicemail, I called Chris. Chris picked up after the second ring. When I told him that I needed someone to clean our dryer vent and what had happened, he said he could come out either between 5:00 and 6:00 pm that evening or the next day. It was already mid-afternoon when I called, so I was surprised to hear him say he could still come out same-day, but I decided to have him do that since I was free and also still a little shaky following what happened with the vent either smoking or steaming. Chris showed up during the window he quoted and wasted no time getting to work. He started the second he arrived and was done within the hour. Carlos, the foreman, and his team took the time to explain their plan and answer all my questions. We were referred to Crawlspace Clean after rats chewed through our soft-sided HVAC ducts. We came home to find insulation and bits of duct material blowing out of our registers. Russell inspected the crawlspace and also identified higher-than-desired humidity levels. He recommended a 20-mil reinforced vapor barrier with a perimeter termination bar to help address the moisture issue. The work was handled in stages. First, California Rodent Solutions sealed the house against further rodent intrusions and set traps. Then Crawlspace Clean's team removed the old rat nests, debris, and even a mummified rat, followed by disinfectant and antimicrobial cleaning. They then installed the new encapsulation barrier. We're hopeful that the improved moisture control will eliminate the "wet dirt" smell we've experienced after the first significant rains and help keep the crawlspace drier. During that same visit, they claimed I now needed a vapor barrier, quoting me an astronomical $16,000--though they offered a high-pressure "$500 discount" if I signed the contract that very day. Feeling suspicious, I finally did what I should have done at the start and called three other highly rated contractors for estimates. This add-on wasn't an attic service, and our expectations probably put the job a little outside of their scope, but even so they didn't disappear, they kept saying "We wanna make sure you're happy," and they negotiated a solution that was more than fair. All the others that responded, even after home visits to inspect my set-up, said that they were unable to help (incompatible system, insufficient power, etc.). Only EM Energy & Air committed to do the job, and they did it really well. Over the course of two visits, Ali figured out which thermostats needed extra work and even did some re-wiring (including fitting one with a small transformer) to ensure that they worked. I now have 9 brand new Ecobee thermostats installed and working perfectly. I don't know what my next home electrical project will be or when it will come up, but I *do* know which company I'll be calling to work on it.

I believe they did an exceptional job bc that week was a heat wave and the house stayed a very moderate temp without even using AC. It was an immediate difference in the den and primary bedroom which were hot and cold spots previously.
