We visited CO, a Vietnamese-Asian fusion restaurant, during Restaurant Week and were very pleasantly surprised. Upon arrival, our waitress seemed a bit dismissive and short, which initially set an uncertain tone for the afternoon. However, to her credit, she completely turned things around -- by the end of the meal, her attentiveness and warmth had greatly improved. The restaurant itself is charming and thoughtfully designed, with two cozy levels that create an intimate yet stylish atmosphere. It's the kind of place that's easy to miss from the outside, but absolutely worth seeking out. Every dish we tried was fresh, beautifully presented, and full of balanced, vibrant flavors. We ordered the Garlic Sesame Tuna Tacos, Tuna Tataki, Mango Summer Rolls, and the Asian Crunch Salad -- each one was excellent in its own way. The plating was artful, and the portions were just right. To accompany our meal, we had an Asian beer and the pineapple-infused sake, both of which were refreshing and paired nicely with the food. Despite a rocky start, the quality of the food, the ambiance, and the staff's recovery made this a memorable dining experience. This hidden gem deserves a visit -- especially if you appreciate creative takes on classic Asian flavors. read more

I went here a few days ago on a Monday. Good crowd and pretty busy but no problem getting seated. It's a small place but very well designed and they have made the most of it. Had a blackberry cocktail, tasty but a little too sweet for me but someone else in my group had it and loved it. Next we had some spring rolls, good as always and we devoured them quickly as we were all hungry. I think we even licked the sauce cups! I almost always get the pad thai, always good, or the Vietnamese chicken salad, again very tasty, but this time I had a curry udon noodle dish and it was excellent. I couldn't decide on 4 or 5 stars but gave a 4 star rating due to the incompetence of our waitress. From start to finish it was like pulling teeth to get anything and at the end of our meal, not only did it take forever to get our check, when it finally came it was for someone else's table so we had to wait again as it was sorted out. Not horrible but when you're ready to leave and it takes another 15 or so minutes it lessens the overall experience. I promise to review my next visit and I'm hopeful they'll get 5 stars next time. I do like this place. read more

Came in during restaurant week and chose 3 courses for $20. Great deal right? Not. I ordered the curry laksa which is pretty delicious however the portion was so small, I only managed to get about 5 regular size grabs from my chopsticks and that was it no more noodles. I'm a fan of the food I received but the portion size just rubbed me the wrong way, I came to be full or at least 70% but left only about 50% full. Thankfully my friend who came got the korean rice bowl shared some of her food otherwise I wouldn't be as full. As for the other items their vietnamese chicken salad and green papaya salad were pretty flavorful again small portion not sure if that is due to the restaurant week but it was a decent size since we were getting a 3 course meal. The beef & kimchi dumplings were decent and the spicy crab Rangoon's were decent as well (how can you go wrong with cream cheese?). Overall I would come back here again because their food was delicious but for restaurant week? No thanks. read more

Stopped in for lunch while walking down King Street. At first we wanted to eat at the bar, but eventually we went up to the larger tables on the second floor. They have community seating, which made it easy for us to pick and choose where my girlfriend and I could sit down. I was very interested in trying out Pho because I wasn't too sure what it was, but had heard that Co was the place to try it. Our waitress Phoebe was excited to explain all the different choices we could have when ordering the pho and I eventually settled on the Spicy Beef Pho, my girlfriend went with the beef pho so we could compare. The server also brought the two house hot sauces and explained each to me. I ended up dumping some of both into the pho because it tasted so great! This was such an enjoyable lunch experience and the accommodating service was definitely noted. Thanks again, Phoebe! We'll be back again! read more

I went to CO a week to two ago with my boyfriend and we LOVED it! We sat at the bar- which I definitely recommend- and ordered drinks and appetizers. We ordered the Beef & Kimchi Dumplings as well as the Spicy Crab Rangoons. Both dishes were delicious and just the right size for sharing. My Jalapeño Guava Margarita was AWESOME! If you like some heat, this drink is for you! Lastly, our bartender, Samantha, truly made our experience a pleasant one. She knew the menu like the back of her hand and she gave us great recommendations- for both food and drinks. She was quick on her feet and very attentive. Although every bar seat was filled, she made us feel like we were the only ones there. Thank you, for a great dinning experience. We will absolutrly be back! read more

Thank you so much for taking such wonderful care of our family during our visit in Charleston. Shannon was so accommodating and informed about our special dietary needs. The food at Co was delicious! Thank you also for offering gluten free items for my mother, it's not common in Columbia. I had the beef pho, highly recommend it. It was so nice to know that we didn't have to worry as much about our food while on vacation, and that we were able to order it and not have to bring a lot of food with us. This meal was honestly quite a surprise for me. I came in by myself to finish some work documents while also being able to get in a quick lunch. I had never been here, but heard the service was fast and the food was fulling. A server Phoebe (I think), short brown hair, led me to order the Vietnamese coffee after we talked about my project and the stress I was under to finish it. Though she warned me it was at least 10x stronger than normal coffee I dismissed it and thought that all coffee is coffee. Boy was I wrong, this coffee had me so energized it was incredible. After that I could only eat a small amount of food but went by the server' recommendation of the wings. Everything was way better than expected! Thanks Co! read more

Pretty disappointed in my experience at Co. I had heard good things and most of the reviews were good, but my experience did not live up. We ordered for carry out which they said would be ready in 15 minutes. We waited for 10 minutes, got to the restaurant and had to wait another 25 minutes there. I ordered the Thai Green Curry with chicken. When I got home there was no chicken in the curry and it only had a few mushrooms and two small pieces of red peppers when the menu states it should have zucchini, red peppers, onions, mushrooms, and thai basil. It was the worst curry I have ever had and not even close to the curries I have gotten other places in Charleston. Overall a very disappointing experience. read more

Oh man, I have never been so excited about one single dish before in my life and I must pay thanks to the server Phoebe who confidently promised us that we would love it. I loved it to the point where I had my entire whopping bowl of soup and then stole the rest of my wife's bowl. Can't believe I had never ordered this before, but I had always stuck with the classic beef pho, but I'm so glad I was pushed to try something new, which I will now be ordering an embarassing amount of to say the least. Recently I was visiting a friend in Charleston & came across this spot on the midday hunt for food. The pad Thai was amazing, but what really makes this spot great is the staff. My waitress, Haleigh, is especially deserving of this praise; she was fantastic. From the very start she was patient while I tried to figure out what I wanted and gave me a great tip on what to get to drink. The food came out quick & she was really on top of the refills (which is paramount to all let's be honest). Co, highly rated serving Asian food. Every time we'd passed it, it smelled so good, looked great and was crowded. We hadn't wanted to go there since we can get that kind of stuff in Hawaii, but it looked and smelled so good. So we had saimin with the thin brown noodles - my favorite (instead of the whitish-yellow curly kind) - with chicken slices, a cracked egg and bokchoy with lots of cilantro and curry laksa, a perfect adaptation to SC's plentiful and delicious seafood. The Evil truly lived up to its name as when you start to eat it you feel nothing and then you get hit with a freight train of back heat! Super spicy but still tasty, nonetheless. Be sure to have a cold beverage on hand. Our favorite though was the Snow cheese with a special cheese power. It was a delight with the cheese slightly melting into the crispy skin for a satisfying bite. His go to Ramen is the shoyu ramen with light chicken broth, dashi, green onion, chashu, bamboo shoots, and an egg, The broth is steeped a full 24 hours, and you can tell when you taste it. All the ingredients are cooked to perfection with the egg yolk being nice and gooey, but the broth will have you coming back again and again. I could not put it down. Possibly the best I have had so far. The vibe is funky, the staff is super friendly, and the food will win over your heart!

We started with a couple cocktails and handful of appetizers to share. Hunter was wonderful and took great care of us. Koji foccacia was excellent, but just a bit TOO salty. Texture and flavors were spot on, but the batch we got in some bites had just too much salt. The pickled Woodear mushrooms were so tasty, we got some rice and seaweed to wrap it up and altogether was delicious! Curry potatoes very flavorful and on point. Of course we couldn't decide so we tried all 3 karaage - classic, evil (BEWARE it's ) and snow cheese. All very different but very good. That evil one lingers in your mouth for a bit! My friend got the shoyu ramen that they're known for and I got the miso because I enjoy a creamier broth. Both had distinctive flavors but tasty overall. Hunter convinced us to try the red bean crème brûlée that he concocted himself so we had to! Ooooweee that thing was delicious! Who knew red bean would go so well with it, the flavors and textures complimented one another. We had a really nice time here and will definitely come back!

Tess was kind and friendly and great interior vibe like a sports hub and plenty of seating outdoors and live music. Great environement and service overall! Food took no longer than 15-20 mins to come out, with a ton of sushi ordered. FOOD: All Signature Sushi and regular Sushi was Half-Off! It comes down to aboiut 7-8$ per roll and $4 for regular california roll or spicy tuna roll. INSANE PRICES! Sushi pieces are a bit skinny and if you get a lot, it comes a massive platter. Nigiri and Sashimi were decently big as well for a good price. Overall, great sushi, delicious flavors and combinations unique to Mt. Pleasant. Highly recommend!

I stopped in for a quick bite and left pleasantly surprised. My server, Michael, had me seated…read moreright away and, when I asked for recommendations, demonstrated an impressive familiarity with the menu. On his suggestion, I ordered the Steak Chimichurri Taco and The Hangover. Each was distinctive enough to deserve its own mention. The steak in the Steak Chimichurri Taco was exceptionally tender and full of flavor. What impressed me most was how thoughtfully the toppings complemented the beef rather than competing with it. The goat cheese was just assertive enough to stand out without overpowering the other ingredients, creating a layered, well-balanced bite that kept me coming back for another. The Hangover was equally memorable--and completely unexpected. Had I actually read the menu instead of putting my trust in Michael, I probably wouldn't have been quite as surprised. Fortunately, I did, because his recommendation was spot on. Once again, I was treated to a wonderful balance of flavors and textures. And there's something undeniably satisfying about seeing a perfectly cooked sunny-side-up egg crowning a taco. FOOD - 10:10 Michael struck exactly the right balance between being attentive and giving me space to enjoy my meal. He knew the menu well, answered my questions confidently, and his recommendations couldn't have been better. SERVICE - 10:10 The atmosphere was every bit as enjoyable as the food. The music was at the perfect volume, the playlist fit the space well, and the lighting was bright enough to feel welcoming without being harsh. It's the kind of place where you could comfortably have a business lunch just as easily as a date night. AMBIANCE - 10:10 Will I be back? Absolutely. If you haven't been here yet, I'd suggest making this your next excuse to treat yourself. Bon appétit.

So, I'm kind of a sushi snob. I've had it in many places...including the Locals location in West…read moreAshley. Gotta say: the meal I had tonight at the Locals off of Folly Road on James Island was AWESOME! Despite having bought some fresh flounder and scallops at Crosby's earlier today (something I'll be cooking at home tomorrow night without fail), I decided I was in the mood for sushi...and Locals was the closest option to where we live. Anyway, I ended up ordering the Tabago roll (5 stars), the Pacific roll (4 stars), the pepper tuna nigiri (which is flash seared - 5 stars) and salmon nigiri (5 stars). I'll freely admit: I've got bigger eyes than stomach, so I had a hard time finishing it all...but it was such a great experience! Oh, I'll also point out that the bartender (Giulia) was so great! So personable and helpful and timely when checking in. The atmosphere here is also great. It's like a sports bar, tucked away to where youd easily miss it if you were driving by. In summary, this place is awesome. The food is awesome. The service: awesome. I don't give out 5 stars very often, but this place earned it. Thanks, Locals for a great experience!

I'm a James Island local and regularly come here for half-price Wednesdays, but tonight was easily…read morethe worst experience I've had. We were seated at 8:26 PM, and at the time there were maybe 10 other parties in the restaurant. We placed our orders immediately since we already knew our usual orders. After that, our waitress never checked back in with us. As the wait continued, we noticed multiple tables that had been seated after us receiving their food. We eventually had to flag down our waitress and ask how much longer our food would be. Her response was simply, "I have no clue," before walking away for about 10 minutes. After we had been sitting there for an hour, she finally returned and told us that our food order had never been put in. There was no apology or acknowledgment that we had just spent an hour waiting for food that was never being prepared. Instead, she asked us what we had ordered again and said, "I don't know what you want me to do, you saw me put the order in, it was a technological error." We then learned that the same thing had happened to two other parties. When we asked why there had been no follow-up on any of the missing orders during that hour, her only response was, "Okay." Mistakes and technology issues happen, and I completely understand that. What made the experience so frustrating was the complete lack of communication, attentiveness, accountability, or even a basic apology. A simple check-in at any point during that hour would likely have caught the issue much sooner. Even after the mistake was discovered, an apology and an attempt to make the situation right would have gone a long way. As someone who comes here regularly and has always enjoyed it, tonight was extremely disappointing. I genuinely hope management addresses both what happened and, more importantly, how the situation was handled so other customers don't have the same experience.
