I am always looking for a place with good Pho or Ramen and when you are in Charleston that is something hard to come by. Coming from the DC area (asian noodles galore!) I was disappointed to find that this awesome foodie city was lacking in the asian noodle area. I am so happy that CO exists because I was having some withdrawals here for a hot minute. We ordered: pork & ginger gyoza spicy crab rangoon pork belly buns beef pho vietnamese ramen A little bit of everything, and definitely extremely filling. Everything was delicious and fresh. The only complaint and probably a very unpopular opinion is my thoughts on their 'pork belly'; I want more crispy juicy fat on my pork belly, not straight up meat! Definitely on the pricey side, there are a lot of Vietnamese places that are cheaper around the area if you're trying to save some money, but this place has a really cool vibe, and the food is delicious! The pork buns were a great starter.. they serve two per order so i got one fried and one steamed.. both were good! For my entree i had the vietnamese ramen.. pork belly with a poached egg, egg noodles and bok choy.. delicious. My wife had the curry soup which had shrimp and chicken.. noodles were much thicker and the soup had a good kick to it. My only complaint was the service. Co is a vietnamese/thai restaurant conveniently located on King st. I was here during restaurant week and was able to choose 3 courses for $20! With the course I was able to get potstickers, a vietnamese chicken salad and a curry laska. The potstickers from here are very tasty but a bit small... but I do have to say that the vietnamese chicken salad was absolutely delicious! It was the perfect portion with plenty of chicken in every bite. Moving on to the main dish...the curry laska was good, however, the noodles were kinda chopped up and it was really hard to eat... I had a hard time trying to dish up the noodles with my chopsticks and my spoon. I probably wouldn't get the curry laska if I'm back and to try the pad thai instead because that looked better. O.M.G.!! So good! Better than Basil. & Basil was quite good! I had the pad thai and my hubby had the spice beef pho, both were really good, and not all that spicy. This is the only meal I had in Charleston that was flat out disgusting. The ramen noodles all came out in one big hunk, I could not even separate them. The waitress brought me new ones, but they were the same. If you've ever had authentic ramen, you will be very disappointed. The broth is basically chicken broth. Now the really disgusting part: one of the employees who was handling food was visible eating chicken wings with his bare hands and then handling food with the same bare hands. Gross! CO is a cute, trendy restaurant with a great atmosphere/vibe and delicious food. We ordered sparkling sake, the pork & ginger gyoza, pork belly bun, pho dac biet, and the spicy udon. While all the food was impressive, the spicy udon was absolutely my favorite - flavorful, sticky sauced-noodles with a generous complement of vegetables and meat. While the appetizer servings were on the small side, they more than made up for it with the entrees, which we were hard pressed to finish! A good value for the price, especially given the quality and flavor of the food. For dessert we tried the fried cheesecake bites, which was the only disappointment - the cheesecake interior was completely melted and hot (not very appetizing). I don't know how they prepare it currently, but it would be much better if prepped like fried ice cream - frozen solid prior to breading & frying, so that the interior is still firm and cool upon serving. The service was pretty average based on how busy the restaurant was; we sat upstairs, which I imagine slows the service a bit considering that the kitchen is downstairs (though there is a POS station for checkout, and a drink station upstairs). We ordered cocktails, a black berry bourbon fizz, which was very good and a vodka lemon shandy (we forgot the name). We ordered two appitizers, the crunchy edamame rolls and the summer spring roll. They were both very tasty, I especially liked the edamame rolls, very crunchy and flavorful. The summer roll looked good but fell apart kinda easily. There were five of us and two really enjoyed their meals and three were a little under-whelmed. I had the com chein with tofu, it was lukewarm, but still good but the tofu was cold when I got it. One of us had the drunken noodles she really enjoyed it but said the chicken was dry. Not a ton of vegetarian options but was still good. While the interior design and atmosphere of Co is top-notch, the service and staffing leaves more to be desired. I came here with two friends before a show at the Gailliard for a quick drink and appetizer. This was my second time at Co, so I knew they had pretty good prices for happy hour, including low prices for small plates of food. We we're hoping to take advantage of this. We came in, sat ourselves upstairs at one of the community-style tables. There were already regular menus at the tables, but no happy hour menus, so we figured out what we wanted. I planned to ask the server for their happy hour specials. We sat there for 5 minutes or so, but the place seemed really busy - since we were in a rush, we decided to just grab a drink at the bar downstairs instead. We gathered our things and went down to stand at the bar. We stood at the bar for about 10 minutes without being acknowledged by the wait staff. There was only one bartender serving the entire restaurant and the bar itself. Happy hour menus were at the bar, which we appreciated. Along with other beer and wine specials the menu said "Signature Craft Cocktail - $5". We had picked out their signature cocktails upstairs, so we were pretty excited that the drinks would be on a a happy hour special. We finally ordered, and started downing our drinking (since we were now in a time crunch). I really liked my drink. I got the pomegranate rum punch - it was delicious. The bill came, and was twice the amount we we're expecting. We asked a waitress if all of the signature craft cocktails on the regular menu were on the happy hour pricing. She said no, it switches daily. We asked if this was written down anywhere. She said no, it was not. Interesting...we felt more than a little slighted. We paid the absurdly high cocktail price and left. Overall, the place was severely understaffed. It seemed like there were about three waitresses serving the entire restaurant total, which is clearly not enough to turnover tables in a timely manner. The pho broth has great flavor. The fresh and fried rolls keep getting smaller and smaller. The sauces is not consistent. Sometimes it's salty, hot or done right but always depending on who made it I guess. The wait for food is longer than usual but I always tip the students working generously. I went here and exclusively tried the vegan options- and for those looking for flavorful, well done tofu options- this is your place! Also, if you are hesitant about tofu (understandable) this is a good place to try it! For vegans and vegetarians (and gluten free folks) come here to enjoy well done vegan options and actually having choices!!! I tried to tofu buns, vegan spring rolls, and tofu bahn mi (sandwich). All of which seem like pretty standard fare on a menu, but were stand out in that everything was awesome- nothing was forgettable or mediocre. It was flavorful, hot, and came with a great sauce! Also, the portions were impressively big for the entrees. Buns came in sets of three but were filling so don't let the number dissuade you. I know, you're not convinced... tofu is the last thing most people crave, but the buns were sooo good- with a perfectly soft bun, crisped couldn't just enough on the outside, with flavorful sauce. The banh mi was extremely filling and it's sauce had a kick that kept me eating until it was all gone. For those who have no interest in tofu, I will say my dining companion got the server's recommendation of the curry laksa and said she literally could go on eating it forever. She's a foodie who spend a year eating in NYC so this is no small praise. I especially love when servers can give firm recommendations that turn out to be absolute winners! I've been to CO a handful of times. I've come to the conclusion that for me, this is a happy hour only place since they have pretty good drink and food specials (they're $5 signature cocktails have never let me down). Their happy hour is from 3-6pm weekdays. I have no idea who's going to happy hour at 3pm on a weekday but whoever that is, wanna switch jobs? As far as the food goes, I've never been that impressed. All of it's been pretty standard. Nothing bad but nothing amazing. If I see pork buns on a menu, I will order them. Sadly, I'm not in love with CO's buns. I like for the bread to be soft and pillowy so I love a steamed bun. CO goes with a toasted bun which ends up being a little hard and crispy. I realize different places do things differently but I'm just not a fan of an overly crispy bun. I like soft buns and I cannot lie. You other brothas can't deny... Also, the one time I tried their desserts, it was such a let down that I just don't even look at them anymore. Co and I met just before happy hour ended, and we squeezed in an order of $4 tofu buns, curry shrimp, and a few drinks. The drinks were ok (CO guava mimosa and a whiskey ginger(a little overpriced if you're not there for happy hour)), but the appetizers were both absolutely delicious. I could have eaten 20 tofu buns and it was difficult to keep myself from licking the curry shrimp plate. Our entrees took a bit long, but the waitress was super apologetic and she eased our pain with a couple more drinks on the house....We liked her. Tried Co last night after a grueling Yelp search to find the best Pho-serving-restaurant in Charleston. I chose Co because of it was extremely close in vicinity (King st, near Calhoun) and the other yelp reviews were pretty good. Plus my mom was paying and the menu looked a bit pricey (12-13 bucks for beef pho), so I thought this was a prime opportunity to capitalize. There is something about Pho that I find irresistible... it has a hearty, salty, brothy, homey quality that makes you say "mmmm"..... and I love that you can personalize with the little sides it comes with. But I HATE getting Pho that's not good for whatever reason; it seems like it would be impossible to screw up! I had extremely mediocre Pho at Octo Bachi, which is also downtown, so if you are choosing between the two definitely choose Co... it really delivered. We arrived in time for happy hour, so we got $4 glasses of wine and tried the pickled vegetables as an appetizer. They were absolutely delicious (carrots, cauliflower, cucumbers and cabbage) although they were out of Kimchi. I would definitely recommend them as a light and "healthy" way to start your meal. I ordered the Beef Pho, while my mom got the Spicy Beef Ramen, and both were wonderful and hot. I loved that the beef was definitely rare/raw when it entered my broth, so it maintained its tender quality throughout the meal. My mom's soup was interesting, as it had also had potatoes and carrots... something a little different. I took a star away because I wasn't fond of the atmosphere. They dimmed the lights really low at around 7, and it was a little annoying... and the super trendy "family seating" as others have mentioned seemed unnecessary and cramped.
