Restaurant week in New Brunswick. Had a date with my son. We decided on Clydz since they were on Channel 12 this morning. It's been a minute since I've gone. Nice night out so we sat outside. David was our server for the evening. Very attentive and friendly, I ordered a cucumber gimblet (gin). It was as good as I remembered. We stayed with alligator bites, which were very good. Reminded my of chorizo. Then we ordered three east and three west oysters. I couldn't decide which was my favorite because they were both super fresh. Dinner was grilled portobello mushroom, lobster Maine with stacked heirloom tomatoes was so flavorful especially with that sauce. I would get this again and again!! Definitely a winner!! Great place for drinks and happy hour. I've been here several times with a group and sitting at the bar having drinks and appetizers has always been a great experience. This time I brought my wife for a pre Stress Factory show dinner and couldn't have been more disappointed. Service was slow, drinks were tiny and the food was underwhelming at best. I'm not too picky about food (normally) but I paid a lot for the brontosaurus short rib and it was all fat, maybe 3-4 bites of actual beef. I think I'll stick to happy hour from now on. read more

Clydz has become my go-to spot for drinks and fantastic truffle fries. The consistently high quality of their truffle fries keeps me coming back, and the drink selection never disappoints. We always sit at the bar. The cozy atmosphere and friendly staff contribute to a pleasant experience each time. We've had the other food selections such as the octopus and empanadas and I would say it was alright but If you're looking for a reliable place for a casual drink and tasty truffle fries, this is it. read more

This is by far my worst experience at Clydz yet. First of all, we were questioned as to whether or not we wanted a $25 drink, then we were put on hold for our 2 drinks. It was a group of 4. Our friends finished their drinks before we were even served ours. On top of everything, we were served a chai Thai versus a Mai Thai and when we questioned it, the bartender scolded us saying it was the correct drink. We've been coming to Clydz for years and are well aware this is the newest bartender here, he has the biggest ego and exemplifies HORRIBLE customer service. Boy oh boy... I had the choice of another spot other than Clydz to celebrate my birthday... and I am SO glad that I picked the clear winner! The service from making the reservation, confirmation of my reservation, asking beforehand whether it was for a special occasion, to be greeted by my first name by wonderful Craig (how did he know? lol), then to see that they had taken the time to spread wonderful roses all on the table in celebration of me... man... oh man.. I was so impressed before we even had our first cocktail or bite (and those were the best parts!) Yes, Clydz... I'm still raving about you. Our waitress was gracious enough to allow us to order from the happy hour menu even though we weren't seated at the bar.. and we took full advantage of the immense amount of libation options that are so much fun to pick from! My absolute fave and must taste .. the "Don't Drink Too Many of These.." Well, I drank just enough.. so very tasty!! Pear brandy, apple liqueur, Riesling, Champagne... what a great combination! Now on to the food. Apps were roasted bone marrow served with pulled short ribs that melted in your mouth.. and a side of roasted tomato jam--the acidity and sweetness really complimented the richness of the others.. Then the duck confit deviled eggs were nicely done. Dinner was scallops with a mango reduction sauce and a creamy risotto that were OUT OF THIS WORLD. I could eat this dish once a week. The scallops were sweet and the risotto was some of the best I've ever had. Of all of the times that I've had a martini or two at this spot, this was my first time actually sitting down for dinner. This bar restaurant is a college favorite, really a gem in the heart of New Brunswick and at Rutgers University campus. My friends and I still find ourselves going back to this place after college days because the cocktails are solid. With their large selections of drinks, there will always be something for everyone. I especially like the drinks that contains egg white - they use pasteurized eggs so rest assured. They have an intimate dining area in the back of the bar, away from all the noises. The last time I was here was for a (surprised) birthday dinner with 16 people. They set up a long table for us. I just remember the waitress (forgot her name) was so attentive and super nice to us - big kudos! When the birthday girl accidentally knocked her martini glass down on the table, the waitress immediately helped her cleaned up the spill and got her a brand new drink. It was like she got a complimentary drink! Little gesture like this really made our nights. We also got some entrees and appetizers to shared. They serve some unusual meats like alligator meat for meatballs and bison in the soup. I came here a few weeks ago and was so impressed! Honestly I was just thinking it was going to be a regular college restaurant bar but the decor was so cute with dim lighting and old vintage posters, would be fun to go dressed up next time. I ordered the stardust drink and it was one of the best drinks I had, definitely Instagram worthy and the taste was unique. Celebrated an anniversary dinner with my boyfriend here recently and had a great time. There were flower petals on the table for us which was a nice touch. Our waitress was really friendly and attentive. We started off with the roasted bone marrow. I had the petite portion of the Australian filet mignon. We ended our meal with the Clydz brownie sundae. Everything was delicious! They have a really cool and extensive cocktail menu. I had the old fashioned and sazerac. I enjoyed both drinks. I've been to Clydz for happy hour more times than I can count. It's got a nice speakeasy feel with excellent drinks. Pros: - ambiance is chill - Happy Hour Prices are great - bartenders and staff have all been extremely nice each time - drink selection is much bigger than the usual spots I've been to, and I have many favorites here (but my go to is the French 55 because I love a good vodka and wine/champagne mix - the food is great too (typically get the sliders, lobster Mac n cheese, calamari, or sweet potato fries) - location is great being in downtown New Brunswick very close to the train station - They're open before 5 for happy hour (this has been a huge plus!) Cons: - No parking lot (this is typical in downtown New Brunswick though) so you'll have to pay for a lot or find something on the street which isn't usually too much of an issue - That's all :-) read more

Our bartender Dean, showed up at our table and personally made are experience unforgettable. He amazed us with magic and bartending skills. My mother and I made a reservation at Clydz and made the mistake of going through some sketchy 3rd party reservation service (be sure to use OpenTable!), so when we got there our name was not on the list. The books were full but the staff still graciously bent over backwards to get us a seat in the bar area and made sure that the bartenders came over to wait on us. The food was 10/10, drinks 100/10 and the service was excellent. Clydz has a cool, cozy speakeasy vibe. If I lived in the area I would definitely be visiting regularly (after making reservations correctly, of course). read more

This place doesn't look like much from outside... even inside is a lil dated ... BUT the drinks are fantastic and food is pretty good. Front part is bar with a area behind the bar with tables also for drinks/ bar menu. Happy hr is 4-7pm BTW and list is pretty damn good! I've had several cocktails here and they were all good. The Lychee Martini is my favorite. The back has a dining area ... dinner menu is different than the bar menu. Definitely had some interesting selections ( quail, python,kangaroo) but also has the regulars as well. Craig our waiter was supercool, super informative and super efficient. Parking is street parking which is hard to find. The parking lot next door is no more. Looks like a lot of construction in the area. There is a parking lot one block before the restaurant on top of a super fresh and RWJ gym. It was like 6-10 bucks to park and restaurant does not stamp it. Under new ownership and with a new chef and a new menu, Clydz is a great spot for a casual dinner or even just for drinks. They now have a lot of outdoor tables for sidewalk dining. Their cocktail menu is inventive. We enjoyed Happy Hour specials: a rum drink called a Bishop and a vodka drink called Green Tea-ni. My husband had a large veal chop and I opted for a fancy grilled cheese. We also shared an appetizer of whipped ricotta with grilled ciabatta slices. To finish, we shared a "budino", sort of a pudding with a caramel topping. We loved everything. Service was friendly and efficient. read more

This was my second time at Clydz and This Time actually having food. It has only gotten better in my honest opinion and both times the drinks were very, very good. My friends and I went and we all had a good time. The establishment is a good clash between bar and restaurant with an underrated ambiance. I love the fact that y'all have them separated by tastes like sour, sweet, and etc. The pineapple daiquiri I got was pretty good (wasn't slushed & slurred like a real New Orleans daiquiri though). Had a real good blend of sweet and sour that I will definitely be going back for. The alligator in a blanket, fried olives, and calamari were also pretty damn good. But the burger is what did it for me. Now I can say that I would have liked the patty seasoned a little bit more but it is honestly one of my favorite burgers in recent memory. The peppers, the choice of cheese, the sturdy yet soft bun, it all came together to make a good ass burger. I definitely recommend this spot to those who are In the area who want to get away from other hectic parts of the city (even though clydz is usually packed). Atmosphere 4/5 I loved this atmosphere because you walk into a dark bar type of area and walk back to the restaurant where it is so classy and more elegant than you would expect walking back. It was such a cool change of scenery from one room to the next. I will say we thought we had the wrong place at first because no one is really there to greet you and ask if you are going to the restaurant in the back. My friend ordered the octopus tacos which was more of a deconstructed version. She wasn't the happiest with the misleading menu name. The flavors were good and the table was able to finish the meal, but it wasn't an octopus Taco. I got the shrimp da Orlando. Everything was cooked to perfection, the sauce really picked up on the shrimp flavor. I also got the garlic broccolini on the side, the amount of seasoning and garlic was perfect! I will say my absolute favorite meal of the entire night was the pappardella pasta with the truffle cream sauce. It was so rich and delicate in flavors. Super cozy and I snuggled up nicely with my wife in a corner booth. I'm not joking when I say this, but there must've been at least six Tinder dates going on here at the same time. It was boy-girl boy-girl boy-girl, with everyone sporting the awkward grin and nervous laughter. Super cute! If I were single in New Brunswick, it looks like I've found my place. I can't believe I never wrote a review of one of my favorite bars ever and certainly my favorite martini bar before this point! Clydz has a special place in my heart in that it was one of our go to places during my time at college at Rutgers, so in addition to the exceptional drinks and atmosphere, there's also sentimental value attached. During college, it was our goal to try every martini on the menu, but we were never ever to reach that milestone, not even close! There's so many various options in drinks, all for which are creative and very tasty and delicious. All the drinks are also very strong and certainly well worth the cost--with martinis, not only do you get your glass but the shaker as well so you're essentially getting two glasses for each martini drink. As I did in college, I love going to Clydz during happy hour. While the price went up from the $5.00 we used to pay in college, the price of $7.50 for happy hour drinks is very reasonable and well worth it! While I tried many of the drinks and immensely enjoyed each and every one of them in the past, my new go to order is the Intelligent Gimlet (Raspberry Vodka, Absolut Citron and Lime Juice)($7.50 for Happy Hour). While I'm not usually a fan of tart tastes, the Intelligent Gimlet is very subtle in it's tart notes and adds a new dimension to the taste experience. I also like the fact that it is simple and so refreshing! The ambiance at Clydz is very classy but casual at the same time. While I've eaten in the main dining room at Clydz, which was also a very pleasant experience, most instances I hang out in the bar area. My favorite place to sit is the booths in the back, on the right side when you first enter. It seems that most folks think this area is private when they enter, so I'm always able to find a booth when I visit. I love that it's private and intimate, but also a very social atmosphere. The bartenders, servers and wait staff are always very friendly, extremely knowledgeable about their drinks and overall I've never had a negative or subpar experience with the employees here. Do yourself a favor and visit if you have never been! I will be going back to Clydz any chance I get. read more

Omgosh I LOVED clydz while I was in college and it's been a few years since I graduated but I went back after they opened in September. Their cocktails are amazing - the lychee and holiday inn are my favorites! They don't shirk on the alcohol and if you have two (which is the standard that comes in the shaker) you'll definitely start feeling toasty. Their fries are great and so is the calamari. One of my go to spots for HH. Note that parking is a little hard to find - but it's New Brunswick so unless you park in a deck or live there - it's pretty standard. First time at Clydz since moving back to New Brunswick and I really enjoyed my drink. Ordered a Dirty Tomolive martini and the bartender crushed it. Don't know what happened to Clydz but the waitstaff was terrible tonight. All the servers were just hanging out in the galley between the bar area and dining room the entire time we were there. This is one of my favorites spots to go to for happy hour in New Brunswick. If your social drinker and looking to try a new drink, then this is the place to go. Their drink menu is by far the biggest and most creative in this area alone in my opinion. The bar is very small but has dark intimate lighting, and has a restaurant in the back. The kitchen is open pretty late, so I definitely suggest you grab a bite while you are binging those drinks. I have coming here for a long time, and the best thing I can say about this place is their happy hour. The cocktails are very inexpensive and they give you the shaker with the extras. There are so many good things to say I don't know where to start! Love the ambiance here! It is 100% the selling point of this place. First of all the exposed brick and classic old timey vibe I get from the decor is such a perfect backdrop for Instagram pics. While it's not meant to be a "fancy" place per se, we dressed up and made it a classy and fancy fun kind of night. This place is perfect for a group of friends. It does not feel collegey at all given the proximity to the rutgers campus. It's a lovely place. Clydz has some great eats and ever better drinks! A group of friends and I got together for dinner and the vibes were fantastic. It's an affordable and fun place that's a bit more upscale than the regular New Brunswick area bars. Cocktails were priced at a reasonable 16 dollars. The bartenders were super sweet and made sure we all had our drinks of choice flowing. For food, I would say it has a good amount of choices but I wish there were more choices for vegans and vegetarians. I was only able to choose out of or two things off this menu. So I went to Clyde's in the winter of 2018. I have to say I am not really sure what to make of the restaurant in terms of aesthetic because the bar is very much reminescent to a grungy college bar (sticky floors, poor lighting in a non-purposeful way) but then the dining area try really hard to seem as though it is upscale. It unfortunately hits the mark on neither. We had a couple drinks at the bar and hoped that dinner would be able to make up for the feeling of grunge from the bar. The dining room makes an attempt at being more upscale although misses the mark. All in all the ambience is just weird, certainly not an upscale dining Establishment. The food was...well it would have most certainly been torn apart in any reputable restaurant review in any major city. The pasta (which is always an easy hit for restaurants) was only so so, the roast chicken was both overcooked in parts and undercooked in others. The restaurant seems to pride itself on having interesting menu options (python, alligator, etc.) But we ordered a lot of different dishes and none of them were really any good. (And python, prepared the correct way is actually quite good) The only redeeming quality was the drinks (or maybe if you drink enough it all seems less terrible) Honestly skip this place, you'll get the same cheap feel at any other restaurant in NB and the food will probably be better. read more
