Delta's a nice experience. When you walk in, you're greeted with a pleasant atmosphere, and the hostess who greeted my friend and me was very welcoming to us as firstcomers. From the get-go, the staff is very kind, respectful, and quick to take your order. I got the cornbread, which, at similar restaurants, is typically free as a courtesy, but here it was $3. The cornbread was great; I'd give it a (9/10). Shortly after, our food came as I had ordered the fried chicken entree, which came with baked mac and cheese for an extra $2. From the bite of the mac and cheese, it came out really good; I enjoyed the crust and seasoning, and I would definitely order the mac and cheese again (10/10). I would give this restaurant 5 stars if only the chicken had come out better. It had a good crunch, but the taste was honestly pretty bland. I wanted some juice from it, considering it was dark meat, but it was also fairly dry. It wasn't the worst fried chicken I've ever had, but it definitely didn't make the list (5/10). I have never had an unpleasant time at Delta's. The food is always delicious, drinks are awesome, staff is friendly, and the vibes are A1. Best to make a reservation during prime hours because it fills up quick, especially for brunch and times when there is live music (there is a fee added to your bill when there is live music). I got the fried chicken meal with mac & cheese & collards shared at the table, mac is +$2 extra, but worth it! The chicken was fried to perfection, came out hot but not greasy. I recently visited Delta's Restaurant in New Brunswick, NJ, and it definitely delivers when it comes to atmosphere and overall vibe. I've gone to Delta's several times in the past. But I haven't been since before 2020. I went in March as one of the ways to celebrate my birthday. The staff is really nice and accommodating. I was surprised that the meals only come with one side now but I guess that's the sign of the current times. Food wise everything was great as always. My only issue was the entertainment. I wasn't a fan of the live music, it was kind of chaotic. Normally if that was the case at any restaurant, I would ignore it but they charge an entertainment fee on the bill if a live band is playing. I kind of find that a bit absurd especially since I was upstairs and no where near the entertainment, i just could hear it because the audio was booming through the restaurant. Driving to get there and then having to pay for parking first miss! The crowd was small. The music was good until I learned the restaurant charges a 8.00 event fee. Crab cakes are meant to have crab meat not a bunch of unidentifiable filler A plain salad was 18.00 plus to fit some rubbery chicken. So we were in the area and I decided I wanted to visit my old neck of the woods from my college days and we landed at Delta's. Delta's was the ultimate treat as a college student. As such we went for a Sunday brunch ~12:30/1pm and we were absolutely not disappointed! Initially the server felt off putting but as the meal and experience went on the vibe significantly improved. We were made aware of the entertainment fee that is included in our final bill, but the DJ had the best 90s/2000s R&B and hip hop, which made us gladly pay. We sang our hearts out and ordered the most delicious soul food (both the mains and sides)! We had indulgent cocktails and found ourselves there beyond the regular seat timing. I went to Delta's for a celebratory dinner on a Friday night and had a very pleasant experience! Our waitress, Amber, was on top of it and extremely friendly and attentive. The restaurant had a nice vibe and although we sat upstairs, the music downstairs was nice as we passed. The food itself was also delicious! The vibe was lively with live music, though it was a bit too loud to really enjoy conversation. The service was friendly, but I did feel like they tried to nickel and dime us with extra fees, which was frustrating. First time here for brunch and definitely coming back! Ambiance was beautiful and moody. More of a group brunch/dinner place but I didn't get to explore the second level. Absolutely loved the staff - everyone was so helpful with the selection. We tried the red sangria and I've had better but the brandy did peek through so if you're a fan, give it a try. Ok let's start by saying the maître.de at the front of the house was rude and highly bothered, I wasn't the only customer who noticed this. I'll start with naming the occasion, my father had taken my family out, to celebrate my and my fiancé's birthdays. We had a reservation, and were seated promptly. The Hostesses were very kind. I had my children with me, and they offered to take and put my stroller away. My father and I both ordered the fried catfish with mac & cheese. The fish was great, you could cut it like butter. The macaroni on the other hand, overly salty, I didn't finish it. My fiancé had the barbecue chicken, which he liked...but said it was nothing to phone home about. The restaurant was fairly calm, until the live band started playing. They had a nice set, and I believe they played for at least 30 to 45 minutes. The sweet potato cheesecake was on the house, since it was my birthday. Great, but the end to our evening quickly soured. Not even five minutes into our desserts, we were told that we had TWO MINUTES to finish and leave. Since the party for 8:00 had arrived. I was so taken aback, I just smiled and said "oh okay, sure!". Fabulous brunch experience! Valet parking was a huge help since we simply were not in the mood to find street parking. Parking looked like it could be challenging in a residential area. The host and server were pleasant, the esthetics were pleasing, fabulous DJ that played all the perfect soulful classics you'd want to hear at a Sunday brunch or family reunion. The music was also at a perfect volume where diners can converse comfortably. Most importantly the food was delicious! Everything was cooked perfectly. The corn bread was light and moist. Absolutely delicious! The place was packed and we were glad we made reservations. They are definitely necessary as this establishment has loyal clientele that always fills this restaurant with very satisfied diners. The cocktails were too weak and sugary but the low end basic full bottle of Brut champagne and choices of juices made up for the disappointing cocktail. It has been yeeeaaaarrrrssss since I've been to Delta's. I recently visited with a group of ladies that I'm in a social club with. We had a party of 8. We had a 5:30 pm reservation and we couldn't be seated until everyone or almost everyone was there. Needless to say, we were psst our 15 minute window. However, since we got there so early on a Friday, we were still able to be seated. Once we were finally seated, we placed our drink orders. I got the peach moscato sangria. For my meal, I got fried whiting with mac n cheese and candied yams. I felt like the presentation of the food wasn't as nice as it used to be some years ago, but it was still tasty. My only issue with my meal was the fish. It could've used a little more salt, and it had bones in it. I didn't enjoy pulling fish bones out of my mouth mid-chew. The restaurant definitely passes the vibe check. The playlist was on point. Finding good black-owned spots to enjoy a good meal and some good vibes in Central NJ is like finding a needle in a haystack. Therefore, it's nice that Delta's is still around. The hostess, Alicia, was friendly and you could tell she was working as fast as possible to get people seated. Our waiter, Robert, was great as well. Delta's Is a Scam, Not a Restaurant As a Black man who has spent years working in restaurants--from casual to fine dining--and someone who dines at mid to upscale establishments almost every weekend, I have to say: this place is truly offensive. Where to even start? The Good The décor is nice. The service is acceptable. That's it. The Bad The pricing at Delta's is beyond unjustifiable--it's predatory. We're talking steakhouse prices for soul food without the quality, technique, or product to back it up. Here are just a few egregious examples: * $26 for fried chicken and fries. * $22 for cauliflower and grits. * $16 for four ribs. * $10 for a side of rice and gravy. * $26 for a single piece of catfish with fries. * $25 for two "jumbo lump" crab cakes--except they weren't jumbo, they weren't lump, and they weren't even good. * $38 for four oxtails and grits. * $28 for two turkey wings with rice and gravy. * $20 just to share food with my child. * $8 entertainment fee, as if overcharging on every plate wasn't enough. These prices are insulting, and to make it worse, the food was completely unseasoned. That's not an opinion--it's a fact. The fried chicken was all batter, dry chicken. The lamb tasted like it came straight from the package to the broiler with no care, no technique, and definitely no flavor. This Isn't Fine Dining--It's a Scam Smearing a remoulade on a plate doesn't make you a fine dining establishment--especially when you have the nerve to charge extra for it. We used to love going to Delta's since it's so close to home. Now the food is absolutely HORRIBLE!!! The only reason for the 1 star is because of the server. The venue is too beautiful inside to be serving such horrible soul food. Normally macaroni noodles are cooked to al dente they were so overcooked they were mushy they melted in with the cheese. The collard greens were barely cut up. The leaves were so big and they left huge stems in. Not sure how shrimp can be so bland. It doesn't take much to season seafood the breadcrumbs must have been plain panko. The entire dinner was bad especially for the prices and the food wasn't hot. The catfish was cooked great but lacked for me in the flavor; I presume maybe because the base was seasoned very well. The cabbage was fantastic, honestly my 2nd favorite part of the meal. The potatoe salad had firmer potatoes than I enjoy. My daughter enjoyed her chicken and sides. My mother had the fried whitting that she felt was salty and collard greens, I tried as well, were pretty bland and crunchy. My first time at Deltas was years ago. I went back a few days ago for a group dinner and had a great experience. The food was amazing. We received complimentary cornbread and butter to start.I got the chicken and waffles with sides of Mac and cheese and yams. Everything was so flavorful and the portion sizes were huge. I made it in time for catch happy hour at the bar and ordered their peach sangria. It was delicious. The restaurant seemed to have gotten some decor updated, as I did not remember the back of the room being decorated like this a few years ago. There was a DJ playing live music which I loved. I will say, since it's not a huge restaurant, it doesn't seem fit for multiple large parties. Our group of 10 had to be split into 2 different booths which kind of took away from the group dinner experience. Additionally parking is always a pain to find in that area , I did street metered parking while most other people on the group did valet (~$20). I had dinner at Deltas a few years ago and loved it! I went back last week to celebrate my mom's birthday, and was a little disappointed. I didn't hate it, but the love I had is long gone! Here's why: A reservation with a credit card is required if you want to have dinner here. If you don't show up or do not cancel in time, you may be charged $15 per person. You only have 90 minutes at your table. The clock starts as soon as you sit- NOT WHEN THE FOOD COMES! We felt rushed while there and sadly weren't able to celebrate like we wanted. Good luck with street parking because you probably will never find it. They offer valet service for $20. You have to pull your car to the restaurant that's down the street since they share a valet with them. You text them when you're ready and they bring the car right in front of Delta's. The food was good but not great. We had all of the southern classics- fried fish, macaroni and cheese, greens, yams, black-eyed peas & rice, potato salad & sweet tea. After waiting a significant time for the food, it came out warm- not hot. The mac and cheese tasted like it was made days ago and the yams weren't sweet at all. All of the other items were fair, but nothing to write home about. The sweet tea is $5 per glass and there are no refills so sip slowly. It was my mom's birthday so of course, we ordered dessert. The sweet potato pie was underwhelming and overpriced. The ambiance is nice. A live bad was there during our visit so that was a nice touch. Our waitress was nice but I believe was a bit overwhelmed. The busboys were like vultures trying to rush and get things off of the table so we could leave. The hostess seemed a bit confused and wasn't very friendly when we walked in. The service was good, the nice young lady told us her name but the music was so loud none of us had heard her. The food was fantastic as before. I had the chicken and waffles, so delicious! Everything came out hot and fresh. We had a brunch reservation and with a group of 5 grown women when we get together it's to talk, laugh and eat. We ate but the music was way too loud from Sunday brunch. We asked our server to speak with the manager, but that did nothing. Reservations were made for 730, arrived and had a short wait due to staffing issues, no biggie. Ordered a Margarita at the bar..it was ok. Buzz wise good..taste wise it was missing something. We were seated. The menu was giving me undecided feelings so I asked the waitress... she suggested the soul folk dumplings... and also the crab cakes. Both came out... I proceeded to open the oriental style container only for my eyes and starving belly to see these little flat dumplings that were supposed to have a soul food mix inside but all I found was collard green flakes...nope they go back. Ok now I try the crab cakes.. uhhh honestly not a real crab cake and I ate it out of pure hunger lol It was giving Restaurant Depot box crab cakes unfortunately.. Entree soon arrived after, I ordered the catfish with Mac and cheese, and yams with a Cornbread basket my guest ordered baked chicken and same sides. Catfish should have been fried 2 minutes more and some more seasoning in the batter. Mac & cheese was bland. Yams had a yucky after taste and whatever is being used to sweeten the yams is not a quality product. Cornbread add some honey. Uptown was watery. Overall for 115.00 food was edible. Now what I DID ENJOY was the Ambiance...it's a vibe in there & an event was going on which I am sure added to the vibe as they had a DJ and good music. I decided to visit delta's to enjoy some soul food .. I arrived at my reservation time and was seated up top. As we was seated the waiter told us there is a 8 dollars per person charge to pay for the jazz band entertainment.. I thought that was kinda whack to make the guest pay for med entertainment. Also the food was just ok drinks was good we had Ciroc sangria. No bread was offered and the portion size was ok . The entertainment fee only applies to Saturday 6-9 .. Food is always a 10 out of a 10 . Service is never lacking and the drinks are bomb . I go to deltas several times a year .

Can I tell y'all I haven't been to Deltas since college 2014 so I was very curious to see how the food compared. Everything was absolutely delicious! The vibes are still the same very much so jazz vibes older crowd! It took us a while to get seated but when we did get seated the food was absolutely amazing! The waitress was good but you can tell she had too many tables she was running around a little stressed out. The food was amazing. The catfish was delicious so were the sides. My date loved the Mac and sweet potatoes! The only thing we thought were weird were the oxtails had an option with bbq sauce I believe. Never heard of oxtails with that but he choose the other option but it doesn't taste like normal oxtails you would get at the Jamaican spot but it was still good and tender. The drinks were delicious. The Hennessy drink the waitress suggested was the best! Of course I got the delta heat with the flame going. Now as the night ended and we were about to order dessert the waitress comes up to us and says "JUST AN FYI WE ARE ONLY TAKING CASH SINCE OUR CARD READER IS DOWN" now our meal was over $200 who Carries that much cash in 2022? We told her we didn't have cash and she told us well you have to go walk to the ATM at the bank 4 mins away...... so you want us to leave.... go to the bank ......and come back and pay????? She said yea it's out of our hands but we are hoping it comes back up. We waited it out instead and ordered sweet potato cheesecake which I was craving from having it years ago. Everything about Deltas was great. The only thing i would say is the live music is a bit loud but otherwise i can't wait to go back.
