It is ~fun. Maybe if you're in high school and you really want that experience. The place is packed. Like jammed packed, cannot even move. The music is way too loud, extremely painful for your ears. You're so close to each other that you feel like you might pass out and I came home feeling absolutely disgusting. After shoving my way to the bar (it took 20 minutes), I waited 20 minutes to even buy a drink. The shots I ordered were the smallest shots I've ever seen in my life. Major thumbs down. read more

This is probably one of the worst bars you can go to in New Brunswick the bouncer is probably one of the worst people you can meet throughout the night. THE GOOD: The bouncers are super chill and nice and even gave us $30 for my dance troupe's fundraise one time. THE BAD: If you like a sloppy, sweaty, "packed like sardines" type of night then this is the place for you. My friend who was a senior brought me here for my 21st birthday weekend and she said "it's where all the seniors go" blah blah blah. To be honest it was just like any old frat party in Rutgers, the only difference being that you get actual drinks instead of watered down alc, but to get to the bar itself you're going to have to shove past swarms of people and hmm.. what does that remind me of, oh yea a sweaty gross frat party. Don't be surprised if you don't have any room whatsoever to dance, if you get stomped on, or if there are rude/creepy people. CONCLUSION: I get the appeal to many Rutgers students as they are used to being in shitty frat parties, they like being in tight spaces while getting with random strangers, and may not know any better. But if you're anything like me and enjoy having elbow room, having a spacious area, and not being bothered by randos then please don't waste your time here. read more

I have been going to bars for the past 4 years and this is the first time a bartender has given my card to the wrong person. No apology. Nothing. When management was involved the only thing that was suggested was to cancel the card since there was nothing they could do. The DJ made the first announcement and it was so low my friends not near the booth couldn't even hear...following that wouldn't make another one. Thankfully we canceled the card because whoever the bartender gave the card to tried to use it for $70 an hour or two later. read more

I am astounded with the low quality of management held here at the Scarlet Pubb. The manager could care less about the enjoyment and well-being of its customers and instead cares solely about whether people are acting in a manner equivalent to that of high schoolers hanging out on a Friday night. Despite us purchasing drinks and attempting to enjoy ourselves at the bar, the manager could not help but scream at some of us who were waiting for our girlfriends to use the restroom, demanded that we leave immediately. If the manager of Scarlet Pubb was to ask us what was going on and why we were waiting for our girlfriends to finish using the restroom, I would have surely left a much brighter review for the establishment. Instead, the insecurity of the manager, along with accusations that the manager had a taste for women half the age of himself, led me and the rest of the people I came with astonished with how careless and immature the management of the facility truly is. It's unfortunate that our night had to end this way, though i would recommend anyone looking for bars in the New Brunswick area to attend bars such as Queens or Hueys instead of this sad, sad place. I hope all of you looking for a good time in New Brunswick make a solid effort to avoid giving money to an establishment as trashy as this one. In my opinion, it would be generous to leave the Scarlet Pub even a 1/10 review overall. At the end of the day, there are much better options within the same area. I don't wanna do this, because when I came here a few years ago, the illest DJ ever played...DJ Rocket Pants. Came here the other night and it was open mic night. You have to walk across the musician though and that is hella awkward x2. Drinks were cheap, but they were very watered down. I like the layout of the place, but we had one drink and left. One of those bars that we would hit up at least once during the night! It's conveniently located on Easton where all the other bars like Knight Club, Olde Queens, and Golden Rail are located. I'm not a huge fan, but when all my friends are coming here, I'm there too. Most of the times, it's not too crowded and offers enough space for you to dance and have fun! Generally, there's a crowd of people like a wall blocking the bar, but from time to time, you can make way to the bar for a drink. Also, the drinks are inexpensive and quite decent. There are nights when this place gets so packed, it gets very messy with people stepping on your foot, drinks getting spilled on you, and long waiting lines to get in. This is the Dive Bar of the dive bars. I'm giving Scarlet Pub 4 stars because the DJ plays AWESOME music here! if you like the latest hip hop chart toppers, this is the place for you. Every time I come here I have a great time dancing. The place itself is nothing great. there's a bar and there's a dance floor. However, it gets pretty packed here as night wears on. And what's best about this place is that there is no cover charge! =) Also, I love the game machine they have at the end of the room - good for a game of Photo Hunt when I need a break from all the dancing. read more

I've only gone there on Wednesdays and Sunday's for Brittney's music nights. The caliber of talent that come seemingly out of the woodwork to play her shows never ceases to amaze me! If this were a review based solely on that, BRITTNEY'S MUSIC NIGHTS GET FIVE STARS! The joint itself is a one-or-two star room at best (ergo, three). It's got that bathroom smell when you walk in. No, no, not that lemon-scented, Mom-just-cleaned-the-bathroom aroma. Not that one. The other one. Speaking of bathrooms, while I've not been to the ladies' room, the men's room is single-use with no lock on the door. Bad look, Scarlet. Class it up just a little, please. Drink prices are pretty standard and the neighborhood - which sits on the outskirts of New Brunswick proper - seems somewhat suspect. read more

So, when I was a Rutgers undergrad, I thought this place kind of sucked, but would go with friends because either 1) it was the first stop, mainly because it would be so empty and we'd be guaranteed drinks or 2) it was a last minute resort when every other bar was packed and we didn't want the night to be a complete bust. The DJ was the only highlight of this establishment. Otherwise, it's pretty beat. The owner was pretty rude, in that he'd see on a frequent basis (especially during those final weeks in May) and would act like he didn't know me, and pass off my ID to get scanned even when though he knew it was legitimate; what's worse is that he doesn't screen certain "favorites," which I guess are people that the staff know and vouch for. Lots of line cutting (but then again, that happens a lot, so that was just on minor annoyance to a longer list of grievances...) Anyway, once you actually get inside, it's unbearable. It's small and stuffy, so there's no room to dance, much less breathe. After a certain time, tt would take forever to get a drink, because of course the bartenders can only move so fast and do so much...but still. If you've never gone here, or don't go that much, believe me, you're really not missing out. There are other bars that are way, way more fun. Go to them instead. Because you'll want to avoid this one at all costs. read more

I love coming to pub. Opens up around 7 and is usually pretty chill till about 10. That's when it turns into a more night club atmosphere. Drinks are reasonably priced for a college town. And most nights they get a live DJ! read more

I really like the music here and the $2 "bae" breezes on Thursday. The only reason I gave it 3 stars was because I didn't enjoy being shoved around by the older man checking IDs at the door. I guess he thought my ID was fake, so instead of just pointing me in the direction of another person to check it, he pushes me there, not lightly either. Worst bar on Easton ave. my last resort for a bar. Trust me, I'm a Rutgers student and have lived in New Brunswick for 4 years. We walked in and the place was deserted but I thought it's because they just opened but apparently the bartender or the owner whoever that was was talking on the phone when we just walked in and we were asking what kind of tequila they have and instead of telling what kind they have, he decided to say look for yourselves and he was not being any helpful whatsoever he was just yapping and was not being helpful at all so we just walked right out, didn't order anything and went to the nearest bar which had much better service. read more

I worked here for some time while I was in college; The staff are all very personable and friendly people, management makes sure quality people are hired to provide good service to the customers. From my time here, the bartenders all were very patient and the bouncers were efficient and fair in dealing with any incidents that may have occurred. Overall, a friendly customer-employee atmosphere exists in Scarlet Pub based on mutual respect. The owners (Mini Naji, Joe & a few others) are very fun and friendly people who are always looking for ways to improve the venue. They speak & joke around with customers and always make sure to make them feel welcomed. I enjoyed working for them; they are fair & understanding with the staff and will go the extra mile to make themselves available to hear out any concerns that employees may have. As mentioned earlier, since the new management has been established many improvements and changes have and are continuing to be made. We have had live music on Sundays, Salsa night on Wednesdays, Ladies' night on Thursday, and a DJ that plays great music on Tues., Thurs., Fri., & Sat (primarily house/dance/top 40.) Expect to see some big changes in the upcoming year :) read more
