All I can say is WOW! This may be the best restaurant in Ennis. My husband ordered the steak…read moresandwich, and the moment he took the first bite, his eyes lit up. I had the carbonara, and honestly, it was almost too pretty to eat. The service was a little slow, but it actually gave us time to soak in the atmosphere and admire how beautiful the restaurant is inside. The vibe? Absolutely check. The cocktails were not our favorite, but that definitely won't stop us from coming back to try other drinks on the menu. What makes this place even more special is that it's a true mom-and-pop restaurant sourcing food locally. You really can't beat that. Supporting local while getting an amazing meal is always a win.

I ordered the Steak Sandwich, mid rare, because that's how you ask meat to tell the truth. And it…read moredid. Pink and honest in the middle, warm and willing, bread holding it all together like a good road holding a long drive. Nothing flashy, nothing trying too hard just flavor that knew where it came from and didn't apologize. The arugula salad came sharp and clean, green with intent, that bitter edge that wakes you up a little and reminds you you're still alive. It wasn't there to impress you. It was there to balance things out, like a deep breath between sentences. I drank Earl Grey tea, steam rising slow, bergamot drifting up like memory, like train smoke somewhere far off. It felt right. The kind of tea you drink when you're not rushing anywhere, when the world can spin without you for a moment and that's okay. Fern in the Wild isn't trying to reinvent eating. It's doing something better. It's paying attention. To ingredients. To pace. To the quiet pleasure of a meal done right. I left feeling fed in more ways than one--like I'd stopped long enough to hear myself think. That's rare. That's worth something. I'll be back.

The pizza? Perfectly cooked. Not "pretty good." Not "solid." PERFECT. And then you find out the…read moresausage is made in house and suddenly everything makes sense. This menu is all from scratch by someone who knows what they're doing and is not messing around. The Gouda dip is an absolute menace. So much bacon. So much flavor. Zero regrets. If you're sharing it, you're stronger than I am. Now let's talk about the strawberry cheesecake. I don't like cheesecake. I avoid cheesecake. I order literally anything else, but she was out of key lime pie. And yet here I was, quietly reevaluating my personality after one bite. The atmosphere seals the deal. Warm, welcoming, cozy, and actually feels like a real wine bar. Not loud. Not pretentious. Just the kind of place you want to linger, order another glass, and pretend you're a local. This is a go out of your way, take the exit, cancel your plans kind of spot. Ashleigh's is a hidden gem and I will be thinking about that food for an unreasonable amount of time. 10/10. Would detour again just to try the key lime pie this time.
