Absolutely amazing speakeasy bar on 2nd floor of Fern In The Wild restaurant. Beautiful decor with stunning bar and the best kept secret in historic downtown Ennis!

Decided to try this new place out on Saturday evening and it turned out to be really cool! A great…read morespot for those who don't like drinking alcohol or want to bring their older teenager. The owner was there and told us about some of the building's history, including when the downstairs was a saloon and the upstairs was a hotel. You can definitely still notice the historic charm of the old building but they've done a nice job redoing the upstairs and turning it into a comfortable place to hang out and have a (non alcoholic) drink. The room is above the bakery, the easiest way to enter is from the labeled door on the side street. Climb the stairs and you'll find yourself right in the bar. The menu was limited, and based on our conversations with the owners, they are constantly experimenting with new non-alcoholic combinations and creating new things. I ordered their version of an "old fashioned" and it was very good. Tasted a bit smoky and generally mirrored the taste of an old fashioned that actually has alcohol in it. They have some board games to keep you occupied, and on this particular night they also had karaoke. Prices are around $10-$12 for a mocktail. I recommend checking this place out, I'll surely be back.

Nestled in the historic downtown Wylie area, Noble Experiment is a cute little speakeasy above a cute Mexican bakery. You can enter through the bakery (entrance is in the back of the bakery), or on Oak street! They're new, but the owners are developing some cool mocktails on a monthly basis so the menu is ever changing! The bar is 17+, so you can bring your teenage kids and have a good time playing board games or kareoking! I believe they have live music and trivia on some nights as well!

All I can say is WOW! This may be the best restaurant in Ennis. My husband ordered the steak…read moresandwich, and the moment he took the first bite, his eyes lit up. I had the carbonara, and honestly, it was almost too pretty to eat. The service was a little slow, but it actually gave us time to soak in the atmosphere and admire how beautiful the restaurant is inside. The vibe? Absolutely check. The cocktails were not our favorite, but that definitely won't stop us from coming back to try other drinks on the menu. What makes this place even more special is that it's a true mom-and-pop restaurant sourcing food locally. You really can't beat that. Supporting local while getting an amazing meal is always a win.

Pink and honest in the middle, warm and willing, bread holding it all together like a good road holding a long drive. Nothing flashy, nothing trying too hard just flavor that knew where it came from and didn't apologize. The arugula salad came sharp and clean, green with intent, that bitter edge that wakes you up a little and reminds you you're still alive. It wasn't there to impress you. It was there to balance things out, like a deep breath between sentences. I drank Earl Grey tea, steam rising slow, bergamot drifting up like memory, like train smoke somewhere far off. It felt right. The kind of tea you drink when you're not rushing anywhere, when the world can spin without you for a moment and that's okay. Fern in the Wild isn't trying to reinvent eating. It's doing something better. It's paying attention. To ingredients. To pace. To the quiet pleasure of a meal done right. I left feeling fed in more ways than one--like I'd stopped long enough to hear myself think. That's rare. That's worth something. I'll be back.

About: Red Phone Booth, founded in Atlanta in 2020 by…read moreStephen de Haan in partnership with actor and whiskey and cigar enthusiast Michael Cudlitz , opened its first Texas location in The Colony, Dallas, in 2023, celebrating three years since its inception. The venue is designed to resemble a Prohibition-era speakeasy, with an entrance accessible through a rotary phone inside a red telephone booth (which actually works!). Our tour was led by Jamie, who shared his extensive knowledge as he guided us through the Prohibition Era alongside our concierge, Landon. The speakeasy features stunning floors made of 120-year-old Italian wood, beautifully decorated with art, books, and a selection of premium entertainment and spirits. Patrons can request "prescriptions," which are 2oz alcoholic shots inspired by the owner's grandfather, who was a pharmacist. Cocktails and friendly service was provided by Emma and Kyle, their services were a nod to Bob Ruede, RPB's renowned Intoxicologist, along with other award-winning bartenders recognized for their excellence in service and hospitality. Eric, the Cigar Attendant, is knowledgeable about how to properly enjoy an exceptional cigar experience. The Mafia Room is an exclusive space perfect for guys' and girls' nights, intimate events, corporate gatherings, and celebrations. While Red Phone Booth offers exclusive membership tiers with premium perks, you don't need to be a member to enjoy the Prohibition experience. The noise level was extremely high...we literally had to yell just to have a conversation with each other. Service was also very slow. It took about 15 minutes just to be acknowledged at the bar, and close to 30 minutes to actually receive a drink. When I finally ordered, I told the bartender to make her favorite drink. She made something that included raw egg whites (which I later learned is common in certain cocktails), but it wasn't mentioned or explained at the time. A few hours later, I became very sick...vomiting and dealing with what felt like severe food poisoning all night and through the next 24 hours. After looking into it, I suspect it may have been related to the raw egg used in the drink. Just something to be aware of if you're ordering drinks like a whiskey sour or anything that may include egg whites. After getting our receipt (which you need for the speakeasy entry code), we checked out the speakeasy portion, but the vibe there wasn't great either..pretty must the same as the other part of the bar. We ended up leaving within about five minutes. Overall, the experience didn't live up to the hype for us....between the noise, long wait times, and how we were treated, it just wasn't enjoyable. For comparison, the bar next door, Archibald, felt much more welcoming. Maybe regulars have a different experience, but as first-time guests, we were not impressed.
