Then they lost a box of keepsakes from my wife and I's first Christmas together on our next delivery. Also, you have to plan your deliveries at least a few days in advance and they give you a large window of when they may arrive (4 hours). If you miss your delivery for any reason they charge you $100 - so you better hope nothing ever comes up. We did have something come up once (a day in advance) so we asked if they could make sure we were in the first couple hours of the delivery window. They emailed us back and asked if we wanted to cancel for $100. They also give their delivery people bonuses to get people to write good reviews, so their stats here are inflated off of in-person guilt trips. Avoid, avoid, avoid! read more

UPDATE: after multiple phone calls, I finally cleaned up my plan and am happy with the price I am paying. The movers also packed my furniture well and am overall happy with the service they provided. It has been a headache setting up my plan. I kept seeing my plan change on me without consent (like increasing storage size or protection plan cost) and I keep having to call customer service and ask them to set it to the original plan which they seem confused about. I am still trying to deal with setting up the appointment but I'm concerned they are going to keep trying to change my plan and charge me more. I was moving out of my apartment to go home for a bit during the pandemic. Clutter was by far the cheapest option I could find. I originally opted for the self service door to door where you leave all the boxes at the curb but on the morning of I decided to upgrade. The clutter guy Carlos showed up on time and was ready to help me immediately. For the full service plan upgrade they will provide you with all the materials (I had already done most of the packing). But they did finish closing all my boxes and labeling them as well as brought everything down my two flights of stairs. A second guy Shamrock came to help and they finished the job in under 30 mins and were HUSTLING. I really appreciated the care and quickness of this interaction. Also both wore masks!! Very important. Honestly couldn't recommend clutter more as it was by far the cheapest option ($88 per month vs $250 for a storage unit in SF for a 5x5 unit). Great experience initially, but major let down in the end. We did most of our packing, but the movers assisted with large items and were overall very fast and careful with our things. We stored our ~1BD/1BTH apartment with Clutter for 8 months. We were willing to pay more for Clutter than other storage options because of the convenience promised by the pick up and delivery model. However, when it came time to have our items returned to us, Clutter told us that they have changed their return policy and now will only deliver in a four hour window from 7am-11am. Our new building does not allow returns before 10am, but despite explaining that we could incur a fine, Clutter was unwilling to work with us to push back the delivery window. They cited a clause in the contract that commits the client to any policy changes that may occur while your things are stored with them, which means that even though there were no return restrictions when I booked Clutter 9 months ago, I now have to find a third party mover to pick up from the Clutter facility. I paid a premium for Clutter's storage services and expected it would be worth it in the end because I could just schedule my delivery in a few minutes online. But that was NOT the case. From a company that was founded on the mission of making "THE WORLD MORE CONVENIENT" (https://www.clutter.com/about-us), you'd think they would be willing to make an exception from their extremely restrictive brand new delivery policy to accommodate a good customer, but that was not the case. Warning- Clutter scammed me, and will easily scam you TL;DR: DO NOT USE CLUTTER: Because Clutter misleadingly does not give binding estimates or real quotes, if they or your movers decide they want to take advantage of you, they can absolutely overcharge you, and will. In my case- my studio apartment move to a new apartment 6 minutes away, which was quoted at 2.5-3 hrs, was billed for a staggering SEVEN HOURS and NINE minutes of work for the 2 movers to complete. My experience: I was moving from my studio apartment to a 1 bedroom a mere 6 min drive away from one another. I have minimal furniture and a normal amount of personal possessions, which I had already packed up in preparation for my move. I was moving alone, and I think this contributed heavily to being a target for the 2 movers who showed up and took advantage of the situation to scam me. At this point, I've been disputing this with Clutter for nearly 3 weeks, with the financial compensation and acknowledgement of the problems being taken incredibly unseriously by whoever is in charge of their claims team. I get taking them off outside but inside a building around people they should be worn. I do not recommend this service and experience I had to anyone. Clutter is delusional, repeatedly saying that they stand by the amount of time this move took and that what these movers did was acceptable. If you read reviews of people who haven't gotten their items back, beware. My whole experience has been horrible from start to finish. 1. The worst thing is that I packed a box myself because it had some personal items that I didn't want the movers to see. I put it in the middle of the box of stuff. Somehow, when I retrieved that box from storage, Clutter had repacked it into 2 boxes without telling me. On top of that, one of the boxes that arrived was ripped open at the top like it was forced open. [I'll post a photo]. 2. Clutter does not really insure items. Note the fine print that they only insure items that show up in the photo, so anything that is on the bottom or inside your box will not be covered. 3. Their price matching is a scam. Do you notice they don't advertise the "height" of their storage units? It's 4 feet. Storage facilities like U-Haul and ExtraSpace storage are about 8 to 9 feet. So, you get HALF as much VOLUME with clutter for the same length and width. Not only that, they will give you lots of lies and excuses to not give you a comparable deal. ** I spent a full day with them complaining about this to them because they had price matched to an online price from U-Haul before I signed up and had emails to prove it. Then, when I told them the price match was for a 9 foot unit, they told me they don't price match online. Really?? Then, I talked to a different rep and they did. DISHONEST. 4. Clutter is SLOW. I live in a high-rise downtown with a front desk/security who has been managing the building and move outs for over 10 years. My security guy said Clutter took FOREVER and were very unprofessional. My security guard estimated an hour for a small studio that where everything was already disassembled and most stuff in bins. They took over 3 hours and *I* had to help them move or else they told me I had to reschedule for another pickup another day! My security guard complained and said they were just hanging out while time was running out as well. 5. They moved an item and made a dent in the apartment complex's hallway right in front of my door. 6. I found out from a friend of a friend that their furniture got ruined and had a really hard time getting any compensation for it, too. 7. We live in San Jose and are planning to move near Sacramento in the near future. As a first step, we needed to get rid of some stuff and store some other items. After comparing various storage unit vendors, I came across Clutter who not only stores for a reasonable monthly charge, but helps pack if needed, picks up / returns and catalogs all your items online for free with the special going on now. That's awesome. They use a "storage calculator" on their mobile phone that measures volume and records a pic and barcode for identification and locating. However, the main thing to understand is that Clutter deals in cubic feet, while the classic storage units deal with square feet since their ceilings are 8 feet vertical. Clutter gives you 4 feet vertical since they pack your belongings on shrink-wrapped pallet in a multi-story rack warehouse like Costco or Ikea. So you only get half the space. For example, for a Public Storage 10x25 sf unit, that is 10 x 25 x 8 ft = 2000 cu ft. For a Clutter "10 x 30ft" (which you'd think is bigger, but it's not), you get 1200 cu ft, which is 10 x 30 x 4 ft = 1200 cu ft. That is, your vertical storage is only 4 ft (1200 / 300 = 4) This is not well documented on their website nor discussed with them on the phone. I had to figure it out myself. I kept wondering how could my items, which I knew would easily fit in a 10 x 25 ft x 8 ft Public Storage unit not fit in the 10 x 30 ft "unit" i ordered from Clutter. I had cleared my 14 x 17 ft (238 sf) living room, filled it about 1/3 full with items for Clutter. I had a 9 x 9 x 6 ft very efficiently stacked pile of 120 mostly small and medium boxes in my garage, and a sectional, king size mattress/box-springs only, a queen bed, 2 night stands, some book cases, 2 LR couches and chair, couple of dressers, a few other items. But within 2 hours, i was at 92% full of my "10 x 30ft" before the mattresses and LR couches and other items. WTF? It just didn't add up. I called Clutter customer support to discuss my concerns. I finally understood the cu ft vs sf deal, and that their "vertical height" was only 4 feet. I texted them my quote from Public Storage for $281/mo for 10 x 25 x 8 = 2000 cu feet. They price matched and gave me a custom 10 x 50 x 4 ft = 2000 cu feet. They were easy to deal with, polite and business oriented. The guys doing the actual moving were great. Very nice, efficient and quick. Michael Aaron, DeWayne Wilson, Gabriel and Jaylen did a great job and worked hard. Hats off to them. I like the convenience of Clutter. I didn't have to rent a trailer or truck, bother my friends to help out load/unload, drive to a storage unit, unload, stack, and return the truck. Saved a lot of expense and made the storing a lot easier. Clutter is a start-up backed by Google and others. It's a great business model. The most important thing to do is to get your best price quote in writing/email from other nearby storage units, then use that to price match with Clutter as necessary if you decide to use them. It helps to have your stuff organized and ready to take away so the movers can be efficient. If the weather is bad, it will take more time since they need space to spread out and bar-code. I would give this company zero starts if possible. Every piece of furniture that I stored was returned to me completely broken or damaged. This includes: broken table, leather sectional that was dropped with frame broken and leather split, legs missing from a hallway entry piece, mattress covered in mold, floor lamp missing hardware and dressers with chunks of wood missing. All items were packaged, transported to warehouse and returned by clutter. I was told by the delivery crew that all items were found broken in the storage unit, meaning that I paid for broken items to be stored for 2 years and 4 months. I was never notified that these items were broken while being out into storage - I would not have paid for them to be stored if this was disclosed to me. They company first offered me approx $300 for my broken goods, I negotiated to approx $1,200. They sent me the money via PayPal as a "good or service" which requires a tax ID, which means I will be taxed for my payout. I contacted clutter to change the label in PayPal and they said they could not change how they sent me the money. They recommended I accept the payout on PayPal (which will be taxed), return the money via PayPal, and that they would send me a check.
