The sushi here is great, love the variety and the price. But when a party of 3 can walk in and sit down before me, while my party of 2 has been waiting for 15 minutes is not ok. Make sure you have a party of 3 or 4 and not just 2, because they make you wait for a 2 top to open up, even if there are 4 tables of 4 seats open. Completely inefficient. Tonight there were 3 tables of 2 waiting even though there were 4 open tables. A friend and I, who have had Cloud 9 many times, planned to stop there for dinner last night. We walked in and there were three 4-top tables open. There were were also three other parties of 2 waiting to be seated. We were told there would be a wait because they can't sit a party of 2 at a 4 top. Cloud 9 had a bunch of people waiting and 3 tables open and would not seat any of us. We decided to wait it out, because the food is amazing, until the host asked us to wait outside. First of all - let me say that I am a server as well so, it takes a lot for me to write a review like this. However, Eric is a terrible reflection of the service I have come to expect from Cloud 9. The past few times I have been here, he refuses to take drink orders for his fellow coworkers, he doesn't like to run their food, and worst of all - he's disrespectful when you ask if he notified your server that they got another table. I have never had bad service at Cloud 9 that was not directly associated to how he treats customers. The reason for my 4 stars, her name is Sasha. She remembers our drinks everytime we come in, she always remembers that we want two plates with one check, and she is genuinely a courteous and invested server. She cares about her regulars and she is the epitome of what a server should strive to be - especially since her job is to ensure that you have a great night out as a customer. I love Cloud 9 and I will continue to be a regular. But Eric doesn't deserve your business or loyalty. read more

Having been there twice I'd say Cloud Nine is a mixed bag of good and fair-to-middlin' elements. First the sushi, it's very good and they neither inflate their base price nor reduce the size of the rolls to monkey with their half price promotion. Half price sushi is the real deal there. My current favorite is the Futo Maki roll. They rely heavily on eel sauce for their specialty rolls, but I suppose I could order one without the stuff. Other strong points are their well-stocked bar and cocktail selections, including half a dozen specialty martinis. Plus they're open til 4am on the weekends and 2am other days, with plentiful parking nearby if you show up during the last two hours they're open. The reason I only rate them three stars (and I tend towards generous ratings) is the rest of the menu is just so-so. For example twice now I've ordered entrees where the description said there were mixed fresh vegetables but I ended up with a blend of finely chopped stuff that's more of a garnish than a serving of veggies. Also I tried their tempura, a favorite of mine at many locales around the city, but was disappointed. While everyplace you go the shrimp is pre-made, their entire dish appears to have been bought frozen in bags from a restaurant wholesaler. It was edible enough but still the least favorite tempura I've had here locally. I tried the soup and lettuce wraps last time and both were also just mediocre. Lastly there are slim pickings for entrees here, and in particular their website still lists the staple Korean entree Bi Bim Bap as an entree, but getting to the restaurant I was disappointed that they'd replaced it with a variant- cuts of various raw fish instead of chicken or beef, plus no egg on top. Really I don't see why they don't offer the raw fish as an option for this entree, unless they weren't selling many of it and were throwing away too many eggs? Regardless, this is the one entree of their lean selection that I'd have surely enjoyed and ordered every time, so now the non-sushi parts of their menu are almost a food desert for me, Great that they're open late, we'd be eating their every other week if they had better non-sushi options. As it stands we might go three or four times a year. read more

For the quality of the food and price, I would give 5 stars, the service however would get 3. The wait was approximately 45 minutes to get sat and you have to wait outside in the cold. Once seated we were greeted promptly and the waitress was very nice and took our drink order. After ordering our food, one person in our party's meal was brought out 10 minutes later and the three others waited close to an hour for the sushi. So really we had two separate dinners. The order was incorrect, and the waitress acknowledged this, but they still charged full price. We had friends that showed up and they were sat 20 minutes after us and finished their meal and we're leaving 15 minutes before us. I have had so many great experiences there so I will chalk the service up to it being a Friday night and them being so busy. I will definitely be back but suggest investing in some outdoor heating and taking care of the customer when you make a mistake. I know this review sounds negative but I really do love this place and would recommend it to anyone. read more

Do yourself a favor and keep walking past Cloud 9 and go to Ichiban instead. Better sushi, better service, better ambiance. I have been a patron of Cloud 9 on countless occasions. I loved coming here because the sushi is delicious and the atmosphere was busy but warm. The waiters were always very pleasant. I went with a friend and experienced the RUDEST customer service I have experienced to date. After we paid the bill and we were finishing our drinks, the host approached our table and asked us to leave because there were customers waiting to be seated. I guess now that they had our money, our patronage was no longer needed. We approached the manager about the situation and he basically shrugged his shoulders and dismissed our complaints by saying that his host was right and that we needed to leave because there were other customers that needed to be served. This place will always have business because of cheap sushi and young clientele with modest incomes, but I would never ever recommend this place to anyone based on that experience alone. If you want decent discount sushi without the shitty shitty service and attitudes of cloud nine, walk 10 feet down the sidewalk to Ichiban. It's an actual restaurant with good food and good service. read more

I had been avoiding Cloud Nine for awhile for an unprecedented reason: when it was Dancing Wasabi it was always so crowded and the space is so small. Then came a night of drinking until 2:30AM ... and one of my friends mentioned that Cloud Nine is open late. Generally, I don't want sushi when I'm drunk, but we ended up here and I must tip my hat to the place. #1 The employees did not get frustrated or annoyed (at least externally) by my friend and I's drunken demeanor and #2 They offer a full menu in a sit down environment, until 4 in the morning. That's unheard of. I ordered an AAC Roll and Pork Dumplings (had to get some protein!) and both were amazing, and not just because I was drunk. I'll definitely be returning! read more

Sushi is really good with some interesting variety. Holy crap is it cheap too. With the half off deal after 5 dining in makes the price beyond reasonable. My wife and I ate what seemed like a gigantic amount of sushi for $23 (before tip). The sushi itself is well done with great attention to detail. How disappointing - slow Saturday night and the manager refuses the business of a couple who went next door to Ichiban. 2 four top tables were open along with 2 spots at the bar. We were told to sit at the bar and they refused to sit at us at an open four top table - out of fear they would get "too busy" - manager was completely rude about it as well. Didn't offer us anything in return - simply stated they have been doing this for 9 years and that's how they would do business. My husband and I went to dinner here with another couple on a Friday night. When we arrived there was a wait for a table so we put our name the list and patiently waited (as this is expected when dining out on a Friday night). We were finally seated, had decent service, and good food. Once we had finished our meals and received our bill we sat with our friends continuing conversation. After our bill was paid an employee approached our table and asked us to leave since the restaurant had a wait for tables. Our group found this extremely rude and unprofessional as we were paying customers and waited for our table just like everyone else. Our night with friends was cut short as we were kicked out of our table at the restaurant. As we were walking out there was almost no one in sight waiting for a table. As a paying customer, I have never been treated in this manner and I will be sure to take my business elsewhere next time. Very disappointing. read more

One of my favorite sushi joints in all my travels. Nice lighting, great vibe, good friendly fast service, and excellent sushi. The C9 supreme roll is delicious. Cloud 9 is my new favorite for Sushi in Cincy. I tried to follow Dancing Wasabi to Hyde Park, but that hasn't worked out and is not the matter at hand. Cloud 9 is just about perfect and the prices are very fair. To me "fair" is when I can leave a place not feeling like I've been taken advantage of and not wanting to stop somewhere else because I'm still hungry. I love sushi of all sorts and honestly it is sometimes so expensive that it is cost prohibitive in my opinion. Many sushi places never have a couple of my favorites, even though they are listed on the menu. Those two are Fatty Tuna and Sea Urchin, but here they have yet to disappoint me by being out. Many of the other reviews focus on the rolls, which are great here, but my taste leads more to sashimi. Here you can order sashimi at the same half-price so long as you mark your order as such and tell the server that you are doing so. The chefs create simply beautiful sashimi presentations that look like rose buds. This visit we had fantastic white tuna (and ordered 4 more for a 2nd round), regular tuna, fatty tuna (yes, we like tuna), salmon and yellow tail all as sashimi and BBQ eel, scallop and sea urchin as nigiri along with a very good spicy tuna roll and Legend roll. Everything was very fresh and tasty. Others have lamented the service, but after multiple visits I have not experienced any problem at all. Showed up at 8:30p and there were 5 open 4 top tables with 2- 2 person parties waiting (which another 2- 2 person parties decided to sit outside in 58 degree weather in the fall) and they would not sit us at a 4 top because it was the managers rule to save those tables for 3 people or more. Seemed a little unreasonable considering it was 8:30p and you offered to sit people outside instead of at your numerous open tables. Love the food and have always chose this as my place in Cincy to get sushi but get some common sense about how you seat people. read more

This is my favorite sushi place! My friends and I have been coming here for years, I've brought my kids here before. I love it! I cannot find a better Spicy Crab Salad or Sunday Morning Roll anywhere else.. It is truly half price but it never tastes half price. The servers are always fantastic and at 3 and 4 in the morning they deal with a lot with!! So treat them well people. Cloud Nine can be a bit overwhelming at first, but once you get past the crowd and take a few elbows from servers trying to get by you, you'll settle right in. My absolute favorite sushi place. However the seating is horrible. If you wanna go enjoy a meal and have a couple beers, don't bother. I have been seated with people I don't know plenty of times because they won't allow you to sit 2 people at a table . And the tables are so close it's hard to move at all . My chair was literally touching the back of the persons behind me. Another time I went I was told when I fished eating I had to leave. I went there on a friend date with my coworker. There are only two tables for pairs of two, and we lucked out and didn't have to wait at alI, but it was cold and we were right by the door, so every time the door was opened (which was frequently) I was bombarded with cold air. I didn't really mind, as I dressed for the weather. It was my first time there, so she kind of explained to me how the whole thing works. You see what you like on the menu and you write it down (like a normal sushi place) I didn't realize I was buying orders of food, not just individual pieces, so I ordered A LOT of food. Sunday Morning is to die for. Like I'm going back just to get more of it. The seating is kind of weird. We went at about 9 on a Monday, so it wasn't too packed with the late night crowd yet. When we were done, I got my box, but I actually forgot it at the table. The waiter (a nice guy with blonde hair) actually followed me out side and called for me to give me my box. Have given them several chances, and the majority of the time we wind up leaving to rush home for some benadryl. The worst part is that I know that when the staff takes it seriously, they're perfectly capable of putting the food out properly. It was a miserable experience on Saturday Feb 18th. We entered to one of the wait staff engaging in an argument with a lady near the entrance and it should have been a red flag. we proceeded to ask for a table and enroll our name on the wait list which was currently empty. After waiting about 15 minutes the host asked us to step outside so we wouldn't crowd the entrance. Little did we know this was actually his invitation for us to leave for the night. As we waited outside the door we noticed two parties enter the restaurant however they were not asked to step outside to avoid crowding the front door. After 10 minutes we peeked back inside to find that both of the other parties had already been seated and were being served. We questioned the two gentleman near the door and much like the nice lady who we initially saw being negatively engaged, we were treated to the same displeasure. Clearly this place is not about customer service, we will not be back, and we encourage others to beware. read more
