So I normally only review fast food restaurants but I have to do this. I'm sorry I really tried to like this bar. The layout and aesthetic is great. It has so much potential to be cool but it just fails to deliver. Me and my girlfriend have been there three times and each time we say to each other "maybe this time it will redeem". Here's a brief rundown. 1. First visit- we came right after they opened and were excited because the location is amazing. We had some drinks and were dancing and were threatened to get kicked out by the bouncer because we "might hurt someone". Mind you, the bar was almost empty since they just opened. 2. We met up with some friends there for a couple drinks. For reference I'm more of a beer drinker and I understand that close company is primarily a cocktail bar. I was mocked by the bar tender for trying to order a beer at a cocktail bar, which I don't take super personally. It's whatever. My girlfriend who is very into cocktails orders a dirty martini, which they pour premade out of a bottle. That's lousy for a cocktail bar. 3. Came back again. Had some pony beers (I know better now) and my girlfriend had a martini which I will say was great and much better. We close out and my tab was 150$. Something's clearly wrong. They had charged multiple shots of tequila and another random drink on my tab which the bartender very kindly removed (thank you who ever are). Short story long, if you want a dark packed bar with poor service and broadway prices... go to Broadway. read more

WINNER!!! What a perfect way to spend my last night in Nashville!!!! Super cool location in a renovated space on the riverfront in the germantown neighborhood. Awesome vibes with a laid back crowd, really creative cocktails, yummy pastry pockets and other fun bar snacks, friendly barkeeps, and rad tunes on the speaker! And bingo on Tuesdays!!! My friend moved in to the apartment complex and said we had to check out this speakeasy! Not too hard to find, but hidden in plain sight downstairs in the plaza. Super interesting place, and definitely MUCH bigger than I anticipated. It's got a unique design, including the conversation pit, and was so much fun to hang out. Bartenders were friendly and knowledgeable. We tried a couple of different cocktails and overall they were decent. One of the specialty seasonal ones sounded interesting but was way too sweet and funky for us - they took it back without an issue and made another drink for us. Always appreciate that from a good bartender! The glassware was unique as well and nice and chilled, which was much needed on this hot day. read more

We asked a few questions and the bartenders were a little snippy to us which was a little weird but I'll give it the benefit of the doubt. Went to close company to enjoy some vibes and it did not disappoint! Ubered there as parking in Germantown is almost impossible on the weekends without paying as much as an uber. Close company is in the lower lower level surrounded by concrete with moody vibes for days. They offer plenty of seating both at the bar area and at booths as well as standing space with tables for drinks. I love a good bar where I feel I don't have to hold my drink the entire time! The menu is simple yet diverse offering their version of hot pockets for food as well as other small bites including a boozy banana pudding which I'll have to try next time! I only went for drinks and was happy with their selection of upscale cocktails as well as plenty of beer options. The bar was super busy and it was a bit difficult to order with the limited staff. The staff also automatically marked over 20% tip on my check which I didn't appreciate on a can of beer. I'll be back to try out the food and hoping it's a bit less busy! read more

This is a really cool bar and has a unique aesthetic, however it can be really difficult to find (you'll want to go up some stairs, down an alley, down the stairs in the back, and it is the only door on the bottom floor). The employees were all friendly and we ordered fairly quickly. We didn't get any food, but the pick up station in the wall looked awesome. The negative are its loud, everything seems to echo, it gets super packed but there are lots of seating options if you are lucky enough to score a spot, and I tried the pink flamingo mocktail and wasn't overly impressed. It just tasted like straight watermelon juice. It needed a little more to make it exciting - maybe some bubbles, some citrus, a spicy salted rim, a jalapeño - just something to take it from being so one dimensional. read more

I have been holding off writing this review until I gave Close Company another chance. The first time we went, it was packed. The vibes were great. We ended up just getting beers and hanging out. At one point we decided to dance (theres a DJ and small open area in front). We were told to stop dancing by the bouncer at the door closest. We stopped and he threw attitude "Do you understand what I am saying". We said yes sir and decided to leave. Upon leaving we looked around and there were multiple people dancing. The second time we went, it was less packed which was nice because you could see the beautiful architecture. I ordered their super martini. I love ford's gin, I love martinis, and anything savory. This was not drinkable. It came from a pre-made batch cocktail. I feel this three ingredient drink could have been made to order. I gave my cocktail away and didnt order another. My friends got the adventure gimlet. This was a very crisp cocktail. I thought it was unique and much better than my drink. I am unsure if this was a batch made cocktail or not. Either way, I have been very excited for this new bar, but I have been extremely disappointed not once but twice. read more

Super cool bar with awesome cocktails. We had their unique take on the Negroni and old fashion. Both VERY tasty- they had the complexity of flavor that you only get at a great craft cocktail bar (think The Fox). The space is very cool, down in a basement with an industrial vibe. It's a real scene, felt a bit like Mother's Ruin but the crowd was more varied in age. They have a small menu of fun sounding bar snacks- will check it out next time. Noted that the place was slammed, but the bartender totally ignored us while serving others who came to the bar after because he knew them. And I understand taking care of your local patrons...but we're local too and will not be back. Horrible bar service, IMO. read more

The space is 5 stars (once you find it) and the one bartender I talked to was very friendly. However the food is blah, $5 for a premade bag of chips they call "Low Country Kettle Chips" I had an their CC Old Fashioned and a standard old fashioned, neither were near as good as the ones i've had at other bars (Rosemary & the Beauty Queen and Perfectly Fine being my favorites) and had quite a smokey aftertaste. I feel like I got ripped off. I was charged LBD tax on a mocktail. I ordered a mocktail - a phony negroni. $13. The bartender pulled out a bottle of St. Agrestis non-alc negroni and poured half of it over ice. ($2.60 worth of product, minimal effort). I know bar margins are ridiculous, but still this seems like a lot. That's all I ordered, so on the car ride home I was wondering why my tab totaled $19. I pulled up my receipt to see I was charged LBD tax (1.95) on my mocktail. Think if you have a party tab with five mocktails on it - That extra tax is also calculated into the pre-tip subtotal, so the bartenders are asking for tip based on a falsely added tax. Service was pretty quick (on a Monday night) so I tipped well, the atmosphere was good, but I absolutely hate feeling like I paid significantly more than what my experience was worth. There should have been no Liquor By The Drink tax on non-alcoholic beverages. read more

I came across this place a few days before visiting and thought it looked so cool. After meeting a friend for brunch, I suggested that we check it out. I was so excited to show my friend the newly renovated Neuhoff area and one of its trendy bars. At first, everything was great, good vibes, good drinks, and fun, and lighthearted girl talk while sitting at the bar. The bartender initially seemed friendly, but then refused to serve me a second drink, saying we were loud and that he knew we'd had drinks prior to coming to Close Company. I had a designated driver and was not belligerent or anything. We were just simply having a good time catching up enjoying each others company. My friend pointed out that a group of women across the bar were just as loud and lively as we were. The bartender then said our conversation was "inappropriate" for a "family-friendly" place , even though there were no children present, and the atmosphere doesn't give off family-friendly vibes. To make matters worse, he repeated details of our conversation that he'd misheard entirely. We spoke with a manager, who said the bartender was being "safe because of something that happened days prior." That explanation left me feeling unfairly associated with someone else's behavior. I genuinely hope the staff receives more guidance on addressing guests consistently and without assumptions, because this space could be wonderful if everyone felt equally welcome. Unfortunately, after feeling policed for simply having a good time, I won't be returning. read more
