I HATE LEAVING BAD REVIEWS, BUT ITS MY DUTY TO WARN OTHERS ABOUT SITUATIONS LIKE THIS!! Needed to get a Generac generator installed. The company I went through, used Clinton Electric for the install. Appointment was set. Estimator from Clinton Electric came out. Did the walk through, told me what I would need,(Some things sounded questionable), he claimed some things needed to be "up to code" and he stated that "A whole house generator is a LUXURY." Recieved the estimate by email..a whopping $18,000 plus. Now I understand that it cost to install a whole house generator, but what I DIDN'T understand, is HOW is it that The Generator cost about $7,600 plus, for a 24,000KW unit...and that meant the INSTALL ALONE, would be OVER $11,000, which I thought was RIDICULOUSLY OVERPRICED!!! Contacted Clinton Electric via email, was informed that the Estimator would call back the same day, because I requested a copy of the breakdown in prices. Here it is OVER a week later, and NO ONE called. I will be getting the Generator one way or the other, but I will NOT be paying $11,000 just for the install that I was being charged by Clinton Electric Company. I WILL NOT BE USING THEM. I needed to troubleshoot why the water pump in a fountain kept tripping the GFCI. I called Clinton Electric, who sent out an electrician, who spent about an hour diagnosing the problem. He suggested that I improve the hose connection to prevent water leakage. After I did so, the problem remained. I called back the electrician, who said that evidently the problem was in the pump itself and that it should be replaced. The electrician was friendly and courteous. I understood that they needed to charge an inspection fee, but what seemed excessive and unfair was the categorization of diagnostic levels that raised the cost of the service call beyond what I considered a reasonable expense for the type of repair needed. For this reason, I cannot recommend this company. It would have been better to work with a company that charges an hourly rate. I will never use this company again - the fees they charge for the service rendered, despite their politeness and friendliness, are simply too costly. The determination that a pump servicing a fountain needed to be replaced cost me $500 plus their inspection fee. Outrageous! read more

Final update: I finally got a hold of a master electrician who installed and maintains our generator. For some reason I thought he had retired. At any rate, I asked him to replace the faulty breaker in question. He came and replaced the breaker in under 10 minutes, charged a very reasonable rate, and told me nothing is wrong with the wiring in the house. This was prior to Thanksgiving. In the meantime, college kids came home and basically lived in the basement. The circuit has been fine the whole time. The new breaker functions perfectly, and the house has not burned down. I wish I could get my diagnostic fee back from Clinton Electric because not only did they not perform the simple work I asked for, they obviously misdiagnosed the problem (faulty breaker) and tried to sell me work I didn't need. read more

Well, cautiously optimistic (see previous review) was way too optimistic. Generator bombed out again (2 days later), Clinton sent another person who could NOT say what was wrong. This company does nice work, and I've been very happy with the professionalism of the electricians they've sent to my home. But I will never employ their services again, as the rates they charge are stunning, and the lack of communication appalling. Last spring, I paid a premium ($1600) to have work done by Clinton Electric around my home. It was much more than I would have liked to pay, but I appreciated the efficiency of the work done, so I called them again this January when my power went out, and I needed it handled quickly. The electrician was friendly and professional, and I was embarrassed when he revealed that the issue boiled down to a simple tripped breaker. He was in and out of the house in 15 minutes with a literal flip of a switch.... and a $306.75 CHARGE!!! A "diagnostic fee" that was I consented to before we knew that the "diagnosis" would be so simple. As an established customer who has already spent nearly $2,000 with Clinton Electric this year, I expected that a simple email and explanation might warrant a reasonable refund of such a staggering fee. No such luck. Not only has there been no renegotiated fee, I have not gotten a response to EITHER of the two emails I have sent to the company. Lesson learned: Clinton Electric will charge top dollar and have no concern for their relationship with their customers. read more

I would never use them again. And on top of that they have a standard dispatch fee. They know how to make money even if they can't fix your problem at a reasonable cost. They do tell you about this fee upfront, and that they don't charge by the hour, but with these diagnostic codes at different levels, you end up paying a lot more than you'd have paid by the hour. read more

4-5 months ago we lost power to the shed. Clinton Electric electrician didn't diagnose the issue correctly, charged $500+ and connected a ground signal to reset a GFCI breaker (not even replacing the breaker), only to have the problem reoccur a few days later. refused to acknowledge it's his issue, charged another trip fee just to tell me I have to spend more money upgrading wires. The electrician is more concerned about collecting the trip fee than finding the real problem. Found another electrician who found and fixed the real issue, which is a rusted outlet outside the shed. same issue never happened again since then. wasted $600+ for nothing. read more

CE advised they charge by the job. NP CE arrived on time. NP CE advised he had 23 yrs exp. NP CE advised needed to do diagnostic check for $500. PROBLEM CE advised $500 to look at switch PROBLEM Asked CE several times to just look at the switch. CE said just looking at switch was not all he would do for $500. That's all he did. Took 5 min to replace switch. If CE is going to charge $500 for a service call then just say that so no one will hire you. Would rather pay hourly since it took about 5 min to replace the switch. CE is a scam. Do not hire this company. ---------------------------------------- Your tech did not check multiple rooms. He went to the panel to cut the electrical to the plate and changed the switch and that was all. someone is lying but I have the entire service call on video. I specifically asked if your tech could just look at the plate and he told me he had to do a diagnostic. The only plate he touched was the one I told him about. I called and got an appointment for the next day. The electrician came on time and did good work. My concern is the amount they charged. On their website, they state "Up front pricing". To me that is a reasonable estimate of what you would be charged for the service. The appointment representative said that there was a $79 fee just to show up, and then the package price would depend on the difficulty of installation. According to Angi's list the normal price for a ceiling fan installation is $150-$300. I was charged $742 which is more than 2x what Angi's list says is the normal charge. He was here for 1 1/2 hours. Which if you would translate the fee into an hourly rate that would be $495 an hour. I though the electrician said the fee was $552 not $742. My bad. But I really feel like I have been ripped off. read more
