I've been here twice now, on two separate occasions. The first time was lunch during the week, and second time was dinner on the weekend. Two different experiences, both in service and quality of food, and rather inconsistent.
The service left something to be desired. Our waiters both times did not make the usual rounds, resulting in us contacting our hostess or other server to find our waiter. This happened multiple times throughout the meal. It was a little embarrassing.
There are definite hits and misses with the food. Below they are ranked from "Yes, please" to "Oh no, not again".
- Oyster Po'Boy - Winner, winner, oyster po'boy dinner. Huge oysters, battered in Cajun cornmeal and deep fried, served on a soft roll with remoulade sauce. Everything about the sandwich was on point. Oysters were meaty and flavorful, roll was soft but firm enough to hold all the contents of the sandwich, and the remoulade sauce tied everything together. Will definitely be ordering again.
- Smoked Salmon Salad - Salad done right. Salmon filet cooked perfectly, served atop mixed greens tossed in their house vinaigrette and sliced avocado. Great portion size as well.
- Crawfish Tails - Appetizer of beer battered crawfish tails served with cocktail sauce. Really tasty dish. Because crawfish tails are small you're bound to get a few bites of fried batter but that was tasty as well.
- Crawfish Etouffee - The base of the etouffee includes bell peppers, onions, mushrooms and jalapenos. We had asked if they could make it without bell peppers and were told that it's already part of the sauce. So, a great indication that they do not make this dish per order and that it's a pre-made sauce. Disappointing. Otherwise, it was a solid dish. Definitely had some spice to it, which could be an issue if the sauce is pre-made and jalapenos cannot be taken out.
- Mac N Cheese - This is not your typical mac and cheese. First off, the serving size looked like it could feed 4. We ordered one for the table and luckily we all shared. The mac itself is served with andouille sausage, onions, and bell peppers, and mixed with their four cheese sauce. Definitely was not cheesy enough but I like 'em cheesy.
- French Onion soup - Lots of Swiss cheese and loaded with onions. The broth seemed too runny, I would have preferred more depth and flavor.
- Muffaletta - Layered provolone, mozzarella, Genoa salami, mortadella, and smoked ham, atop a olive dressing spread on home baked bread. Now this may be personal preference, but this sandwich was way too salty. With all of the meats and olive spread I would expect an increased level of saltiness. I found it to be too much whereas the hubby ate it without a complaint. Also, the size was a bit shocking. It looked like I was served half of a sandwich. Perhaps I wouldn't have questioned the portion size if half the plate weren't empty.
- Beignets (a.k.a. "Coffee and Donuts") - I like the play on words for this dish. 3 beignets served with a scoop of coffee ice cream. The beignets were flat, literally; they were not "fluffy" as promised. Tons of powdered sugar combined with the chewiness of the dough was not a good combo. Poor execution.
Haven't tried the breakfast yet. And with items like Crab Cake Benedict and Chicken & Waffles, I will definitely be back at least one more time to check it out. read more
