Shared Fried Chicken on Toast and Braised Bacon Benny between two of us. Go early to beat the long queue or make sure you have an appetite. Good value for portions and great balance of flavours. I'm a big classic hashbrown fan, but didn't mind baby roast potatoes as a substitute offering, since the seasonings were on points. Excellent service and worth the wait for a reasonable price and beautiful room. This is the first restaurant I went to upon arriving in Winnipeg. We arrived at around 10am and it was busy but we were seated right away. Service was very attentive, we were checked on multiple times and had our water topped off while we were there which was nice. Our food arrived in a timely manner and tasted great. The portions were a little bit smaller than what I'm used to but it was still filling. The prices were higher than what I'm used to since the sides such as potatoes had to be ordered separately. In Toronto it's included with the main. Overall, it's a good experience, food tasted great. When I come back to Winnipeg, I will probably come back here for brunch. read more

Originally opened with Adam Donnelly, though the Chef of Segovia Tapas Bar and Restaurant has since sold his piece to partners, Clementine Cafe has been earning accolades since 2016 as one of Winnipeg's best spots for Breakfast and on Friday morning with snowflakes falling the no reservations space at 123 Princess Street proved why with a concise menu focused on locally sourced ingredients and big flavors despite low prices. Located below street level in the Exchange District, several stairs necessary to be navigated en route to a sizable room flanked by bars for Espresso and Booze plus an open kitchen to the back, it was shortly after Clementine's Seven o'clock opening that the space was found empty save for two Senior Citizens, service expectedly prompt and efficient as Women and Men in the back stayed busy preparing for a rush around 8:00am. Serving just nine plates and eight sides daily, most prone to frequent variation, it was warmed by a bold Americano that mere moments passed before receiving a bowl of Chia Seed Pudding fortified with Cashew Milk and pureed Bananas, the addition of diced Peaches plus Berries and Granola creating a cool and rich mixture that likely fares equally well in cold or warm weather. Admittedly intrigued by Mushroom Chilaquiles and Fried Chicken on Toast, though a lengthy drive back to Minneapolis studded with additional dining plans warned against over-indulgence, it was instead in a "Brussels Style Waffle" that additional appetite was invested, the overused regional reference here thankfully found 100% accurate as the rectangle was crispy on the edges yet cake-like at the center and beautifully garnished in Blueberry Syrup, plump Berries and a big spoonful of Whipped Cream with Lemon Zest, Candied Pecans and dried Pomegranate Arils. read more

I stumbled upon Clementine's by chance and I am so glad I did. The food is wonderful. The best brunch I have ever had. The food and drinks are so far above any competition that they might have anywhere! I sat at the bar the 3 times that I have been in the last week. Everyone else sitting at the bar was so friendly! But the key to the success to this restaurant is the staff. They are amazing. They have genuine smiles and clearly enjoy working there. We were visiting form Minneapolis and stopped by on our 4th and final day. The food was fabulous, and I don't say that lightly. I have eaten in many places the some of the dishes they offer but I have never tasted anything like this. I have been ruined in a way that going forward I will judge the any Yogurt Panna Cotta, coffee and Bacon Benedict's with this standard and I know I will be disappointed. Clementine is a true hidden gem within Winnipeg. On my first visit over a year ago I remember asking the waiter his favourite dish. He told us that he has the fried chicken every time he works. I've probably had the fried chicken 25 times and although the dish has changed, it is fantastic. Every dish my wife and I have tried, we have really enjoyed. Standouts are the burger, eggs Benedict, tomato toast and every desert. The staff match the restaurant- casual, happy, dedicated. Oh my darlin', oh my darling' oh my darlin' Clementine...a place to go for a delicious unique breakfast. Descend downtown and then descend down into a hidden grotto with a speakeasy feel to it. A nice large warm cheerful room awaits you centered by an open kitchen where 7 busy elves are in constant motion, Where is Snow White when you need her? Probably lookin' in the mirror at her muffin top. And they were dwarfs. Okay, elves, dwarfs, whatever, they were moving like the Moiseyev Ballet Co. creating some of the most creative and beautiful wake up food anywhere. The Vibe: Low key and relaxed. Who goes there? The Hip, the Now, X'ers, Z's, Zzzz's, Brats with Tats, New miIls, No Frills, All Thrills, all enjoying the inventive calories. The Food: The menu is small but everything offered is interesting and innovative. It reminded me a little of Medina Cafe in Vancouver which is inconvenient if you are staying in The Peg. The Turkish Eggs were two perfectly poached eggs, one dusted with Sumac (not a litigious nymphomaniac), and one slathered with house made Zhoug, (a spiced up herby concoction. Think North African Chimichurri.) There was some Chili Butter smeared like a scene from Dexter across house baked Sourdough Bread as thick as an erect thumb. Now, this was simply dramatic and as good as you will find in Istanbul. Maybe better. The eggs were settled in a nest of Hummus and the eggs were just as runny as Husain Bolt and creamy as Scarlett Johanson. What a lovely couple. The Smoked Arctic Char had been monitored carefully in the kitchen and had a light smoke to it as this fish is very delicate. (Like a Vaping date.) Just a whisper of lemon balanced the mound of Arctic Char curls tangled up like honeymooners on a square raft of Crispy Potato. Some razor thin slices house pickled Dill Cucumbers were mixed in along with a shaving of fresh Horseradish. And just to keep your attention the dish had a sprinkle of fresh Chives and a serving spoon sized dollop of Creme Fraiche crowned with Salmon Roe. Even though these are share plates this dish should NOT be shared with anybody. Just go all narcissist on this one. Simply organize everything into a Texas sized bite on the tines of your fork, close you eyes, (try not to miss your lips) and savor the cornucopia of wonderful taste and texture. If they served up a spoon of this every Sunday instead of that stale tasteless wafer, I'd return to the fold. The Maple Braised Bacon, as stout as an ax handle, paired brilliantly with both dishes. Besides a day without dead pig is hardly worth bothering with. The Potato Home Fries with house made Salsa Negra and Lime Mayo simply had to be ordered simply because it sounded so damn good and you know...It was. Crunchy little nuggets soft on the inside, anointed with the aforementioned Salsa Negra and just a touch of limey sour-osity, made this a "We'll have two orders of that, please," dish. Lucky us, our server, Daly was the cook 4 days a week and was slumming as wait staff the day we went. No Diva, that girl, but a charming, food knowledgeable Princess of Provisions. Wow!, is the first reaction to the flavors these excellent dishes have. The place is chic and hipster. You take the stairs downstairs and are greeted by a small quaint bar and seating area. The kitchen is open but enclosed with glass so you can see the action but not leave smelling like you were in it. The staff is super friendly and attentive. Pricing is great. I try to avoid places in their first few weeks of opening as they are usually working out the kinks but hey, Clementine is owned and operated by the same team (Donnelly & Konrad) as Segovia so there's no real issues. This new brunch place is only open for breakfast and lunch M-F 7-4 and S-S 8-4. It's in the Exchange District on Princess in the basement of a condo building. The space is beautifully decorated with a rustic yet urban vibe. There's bakery items and coffee at a to-go counter and lots of tables and a couple of communal tables in the rest of the dining room space. There's currently 9 mains ($6-$12) with about 7 sides ($2-5). The dishes are a bit of like Segovia in that there's inspirations drawing from Spain, India, Mid-East and overall New American. Some stand outs are: - Seared Albacore Tuna Salad ($12) Snap Peas, Greens, Smoked Cashew Salsa, Pineapple, Crispy Quinoa. Yeah, it's a seared tuna salad but it's a great tuna salad and very fairly priced. Another good lunch option. - Shrimp Vadouvan ($12) Chickpeas, Poached Egg, Charred Cucumber Raita, Herbs. This one leans more to a lunch meal with it's rich and savoury curry flavours. Best to order some bread with this dish to sop up the sauce. The poached eggs blends beautifully in this dish. Service was very welcoming and knowledgeable. And food service was done within the lunch hour so kudos to that. No reservations. read more

Visiting from out of town, Clementine was the first meal when I landed in Winnipeg. This is a super cute brunch spot in the exchange district. The interior of the restaurant was really hip and they have some unique brunch options. I had the Braised Bacon Benedict, they used very thick cut bacon and it was delicious. My friend had the Coconut Curry Mushroom Toast and I wasn't sure how that would all taste, but it was a very pleasant surprise. This place definitely hit the spot! read more
