At one point I could no longer unlock the Driver's side door from the outside or inside as the long metal arm between the locking peg and the lock itself broke off. No one made or sold that part anymore. I thought I'd have to finish my last year without a car, and then my first couple paychecks after that trying to get a newer one. The mechanics at Mitchell machined a new part and then installed it for about $20. The car saw me through commissioned officer training in the Air Force, and my young family to our first duty station on the East Coast. I'll always be grateful to Mitchell's for going beyond expectations, and at the same time being super understanding of where I was in my life, how needed the car was, and how limited of a budget I had.

After coming back to the shop 3 hours later to pick it up, my car was not at the shop. Turns out they took the car to another shop in town who had the correct machines to get the job done. It would have been nice to know that ahead of time instead of seeing my car driven in to the shop from a different shop. Fast forward to now, my AC went out again several weeks ago and I'll need to take it in once more to inspect what is happening. While this service was cheaper then competitors I feel it may have been worth it in the long run to take it somewhere else because I'll end up paying more to get it done again anyway at this point.

When I asked for a receipt copy of the windshield star repair form he filled out, he told me his copier was broken, then when I said I needed it he came up saying "ahh my copier just worked and he gave me a copy" I call the store in Springville (Jiffy Lube in Springville UT) Joe one of the mangers, he listened to me, he took notes, he call the Regional Manager for me and next day, Dave the Regional manager call me and approved and paid for a new the windshield for my Chevy Suburban now I have a Brand New windshield. I HAVE TO THANK 2 PEOPLE. He called me about an hour after dropping it off and asked me to come down so that he could show me what he sees with the car up on the lift. When I got there he walked me through how either the engine or turbo was pushing oil into the exhaust system and is what ruined the catalytic converter. He told me that he recommended not repairing it and moving on from the vehicle as the repair with the new catalytic converter and pulling apart the engine to find the source would be very costly. Having found an honest mechanic, I then picked his brain for another 15 minutes regarding his experience with different vehicles. After driving the vehicle, diagnosing the exhaust system, putting it up on the lift and walking me through everything, he didn't want to accept payment! He felt like he didn't do anything for me! After some haggling he agreed to take half what he had earned. Maybe it was a wise move though. He will now be the only mechanic I send anyone to.

My wife, who had gotten her immigration case approved and was driving from Calgary, Canada to me in San Diego, had her water pump go out on her in Springville, UT. She was driving by herself, and this was obviously the worst kind of thing to happen. Your car breaks down in a strange town and with snow storms raging. She had stopped for gas at a Chevron station off the I-15, and when she started up the car after filing up, major noise. The girl at the Chevron called Queen Bee, and then told my wife that someone would be there in 10 minutes. Eric showed up, checked the car out to insure it was safe to drive to his shop, and then had her follow him. Mind you, he arrived at the Chevron right as his shop was closing for the day (5pm). When they got to the shop, Eric put the car on the lift, determined it was the water pump, ordered the part, and started getting the car ready for the part to be delivered. My wife was driving her car out of his shop in less than an hour and a half!! All this, after normal hours, and instead of gouging her for being in a crappy situation and really stuck, only charged $267!!!! She tried to add $50 to the bill as a means of thanking him, but he would only accept $15! (I will be sending them something more, not sure what yet) I called Eric shortly after she left to tell him how appreciative I was of his skill, honestly, and kindness. He just told me that he believes in karma and tries to help out those in need who are traveling. For those of you who live within driving distance, I would take all my car work to him. The person behind the counter could not have been nicer. Usually when I go into a mechanic, I get an attitude, they talk down to me. Not here. They were busy and said they could at least get the car on the lift right away to see what was wrong. Turned out to be loose bolts on the exhaust and they tightened them up, we were on our way. No attitude, great service and were willing to help at a moments notice for two travelers that clearly weren't from that area. I live in another town about an hour away in Utah but would be willing to take my car back to this garage anytime.
