Very busy place on a Sunday morning. Arrived at 9:30 am and waited outside for 20 minutes which is understandable due to COVID. Once we finally sat down, the servers were extremely slow to bring menus and drinks - another 15 minutes. Then had to wait an additional 15 minutes to place an order. If I hadn't caught the attention of a server, it probably would have been longer. Order finally placed at 10:20. Good thing, food arrived in 13 minutes. The grilled tenderloin and eggs were really good. Not withstanding the long wait and somewhat slow service, the place gets at least 4 stars. read more

I was with a party of six. My Chicago style dog was good and at a good price. My daughter's pork tenderloin sandwich was huge and a good price but parts of it tasted like fish. So much so that I took one bite and told I'd have to send it back if it was mine. My son said his burger tasted like a frozen patty. My other daughter ordered chicken fingers (also a huge helping) but said the breading was "off". When I tasted it, I immediately tasted blueberries. My older daughter tasted it and said the flavor reminded her of Captain Crunch. Not sure if they use Captain Crunch in their breading or if we were tasting something else that was fried in their fryer. We had a very long day ahead of us where we wouldn't be able to take a break for lunch, we knew we needed a large breakfast to tie us over. I am so glad I found Cleaver's! I had their Lean & Mean omelette, I substituted the toast/pancakes for fruit and had the pepper jack cheese. My husband got the Garden Skillet with pancakes. Mine had mushrooms, broccoli, and tomatoes in an egg white omelette. Normally when you have egg white omelettes, it's lacking on the eggs. This thing was massive, it was like half a hub cap. At least 4-5 egg whites! It was fantastic! The side of hashbrowns were crunchy and delicious. My only complaint was the pepper jack cheese didn't have much flavor, and I would have liked maybe some salsa on top. The fruit was fresh, and actually things you wanna eat instead of just cheap melon. My husband's meal was just a giant mound of food. Lots of hash browns and veggies, and at least the equivalent of 3-4 eggs on top. The skillet itself was very large, it could have fed us both if we weren't so hungry. And on the side he got 2 pancakes, of relatively decent size. His complaint was he wished he had salsa too. The best part? We got out of there at around $15 and some change. I was in the 'ville for the weekend visiting my bestie and she suggested we head here for breakfast. I did really like the art work outside. It was pretty busy, but we didn't have to wait for a table. I had a hard time deciding on what to have... I always have the sweet or savory dilemma when it comes to breakfast. I decided to have the South West Skillet. After ordering, we saw our waitress once as she filled up my coffee, but then she disappeared. We were chatting and I was watching other people as they received their food. I noticed that a couple of people that had come in after us had already received their food. I also was able to see some lady having a freak out in the kitchen because it seemed like things were starting to go wrong. Case in point, the table next to us received the wrong order. Everyone was receiving food, but us. I began to look around and noticed there was another table that had not received food. I don't know how long it took, but we were getting ready to say something as we were sure that they had lost our order. The other table had not received their order. The food was good, but the service (or lack thereof) kind of overshadowed things. My skillet was good, but the jalepenos were quite hot. I am not sure why they put a layer of cheese that doesn't have any flavor over the skillet, so I just scraped it to the side. Bestie had the Eggs Benedict and said that they were ok. As we went to go pay, the table that had not received their food asked if they could pay for their coffee, but they didn't want their food and they would go somewhere else. I don't remember hearing anyone say sorry, but they didn't make the couple pay for the coffee and they walked out behind us, angry that they had not received their food. It seems like a pretty new place so I think it might be working out the glitches, but I hope that they work out the glitches fast because I think the place has potential. read more

Great hidden gem in Evansville. Funny sign out front saying they are now serving the best breakfast in town "every" day. Thanks for the unnecessary "quotes" on your sign. Got there on a Sunday for brunch and no one was there. Atmosphere is clean, tile floors, metal chairs. Staff was friendly and the menu was pretty extensive. They had steak and eggs for under $10. It was a thin piece of steak but well seasoned and works well with eggs. I ordered the Pork Chop breakfast. This bad boy was well seasoned, had some nicely charred grill lines and was close to an inch thick. Of course, under $10. Came with 2 eggs, hash browns and bread. Slam dunk. They prepped us for an additional wait as the pork chops take a little longer, but well worth it. The pancakes were great also and their side of fruit was fresh cut strawberries, blueberries and banana slices. The staff was pretty attentive, but as they got busier they seemed a bit more frazzled. Saw a few more items come out of the kitchen including the chicken tenders, grilled chicken sandwich and their Chicago beef sandwich. All of them looked like something I would order next time out. Total bill for 4 people and a child was $50, and that's a win in my book. Will be back, maybe for dinner next time. I hear the gyros are good there. read more

First off this place use to be my favorite place in Evansville to get breakfast. The reason was the portion to cost ratio was very consumer friendly and the food was really good. Pancakes that were the size of plates...but as all good things it is coming to an end. The main problem with this store is the way its ran. They are severally understaffed and the waiting staff is just not very friendly. As soon as you walk in there is a sign that says wait to be seated but there is no host/hostess. Often on weekends its chaos just to get a seat. Now the downfall of the food. Like stated above I use to go often as the food and price were on point. The past 3 times I have been the omelettes as not cooked correctly, the cheese isn't melted, the pancakes that were big as the plates are now turning into silver dollar size. I can understand once and a while not getting the A+ experience but this happened 3 times in a row. And as in baseball 3 strikes and you're out. Also we noticed the other day that prices went up. I'm okay with this to an extent because I know costs rise but what I'm not okay with are costs going up, quality and quantity going down. The reason this place was so successful in the mornings were the portions, price and quality and they are faltering in all three categories now. I really hope they fix it or as many businesses ran by individuals that aren't properly equipped to run a business they will be out of business. read more

We went to eat at Cleavers Restaurant this morning. We generally eat there every Sunday, after church, but this morning we decided to eat earlier and head to work to do a few things, we decided to take our service dogs with us. Mind you, we normally don't have them with us, after church when we eat there, but today they were with us. They are certified PTSD Service Dogs and have all of their paperwork, vest, and badges. We waited for about 20 minutes for a table, then were seated and brought our drinks. We were waiting for them to take our order and after about 10 minutes, the owner approached our table and tells us we have to leave because of the dogs. He said he knows we come into the restaurant to eat, frequently, and doesn't want to lose our business, but we can't be there with the dogs. We explained that they were PTSD Service Dogs, but he said that doesn't matter, the dogs have to go. We also mentioned that just last Sunday when we were there, a family had a little dog sitting on a chair and was up at the table eating; and that dog was not even a service dog. He said he didn't see it, it doesn't matter, and our dogs need to leave. So, needless to say, we will no longer be eating at this establishment and this is just a heads up for those that have service dogs and to not patronize Cleavers. read more

So disgusting to see the cook go in the restroom with his apron and gloves on and come back out with them on!!!! We had eaten lunch and were very pleased. Unfortunately to see the cook come out of the restroom with the gloves still on ruined it all for me. Visited today for a late breakfast, at about 10am. Was seated right away and got my glass of water and a menu promptly. The place was only 2/3 full, but the noise volume was daunting. Very tough to have a conversation! As others have noted, the owners really need to do something about the noise! The server was okay, but slow. The food was good, but not as good as it's been in previous visits. I will visit again and hope the owners get more wait staff and find a way to tamp down the noise. read more

My wife and I came to eat at Cleavers. When we ordered we got our drinks. I had water and it was like drinking pool of water. We asked for filtered water. They didn't have it and we asked for bottled water and they didn't have that. When we paid the waitress laughed at me. We called Cleavers to talk to the manager. As a person who frequents Chicago occasionally, Cleaver's is a welcoming sight in Evansville. Whenever I want my Chicago dog or Italian beef fix, this is my go-to spot; it doesn't hurt that they serve Goose Island beer from Chicago as well. First time visiting Cleavers and I hope to go back soon. I was invited for Sunday breakfast, and arrived about a half-hour before my friend. The parking lot was almost spotless, and the exterior very interesting to look at. From the exterior, it doesn't look like there's a lot of space inside, and while there isn't, really, it didn't feel crowded once we got into the restaurant. We were seated within seconds of walking in the door (pays to get there early?), and drink orders taken as we sat down. Because my friend and I hadn't seen each other for a while, I didn't get as good a look at the menu as I wanted, and went with his suggestion of the Greek Town Omelet. It came with a choice of two sides, fruit or hashbrowns, and pancake or toast. I ordered the fruit and pancakes. While we were waiting for our order to come out, the waitress brought me a fresh pot of hot water with a new teabag for tea, which was unexpected and appreciated. Our meals came out hot and tasty, and the portions were massive. The Greek Town Omelet has gyro meat, as well as feta cheese and spinach, and had a very nice flavor to it. The fresh fruit was okay, just sliced bananas, strawberries, and grapes, but the pancakes (two) were very fluffy and thick. There was definitely enough on my order to feed two people. Our waitress was very attentive, and kept up with our needs as appropriate, even after the restaurant started filling up. I'm definitely planning on returning! read more
