Whew! Lord! Where do I start? There's not a single bad thing in the place. I haven't tried…read moreeverything on the menu but I'mma reckon a guess, based on the fair amount of things I have tried and by the EXTREME FRESH AND PHENOMENAL QUALITY that i'm right. The chicken pot pie is unlike ANY I've ever tried before, its got a unique taste that I absolutely love. It's not a strong overpowering taste, and it's just the right amount of salt (I think those Marie Calendars pot pies are WAY too salty). Even when the pot pies are frozen they're not overly dry like a store frozen pot pie. You'll be ruined forever, and broke, ya'll no joke. When I was younger, there was a pie shop that made strawberry pies with a sugar glaze, not the gel glaze that's common these days. I've looked forever for a place that didn't make a strawberry pie with that nasty overpowering gel glaze. OMG. I don't know what kind of glaze they use in it. It could be a gel glaze but they just use less of it. I don't know. Maybe it's a different kind of gel? But this strawberry pie is the ONLY kind I can eat. For reals. I literally hate every other kind I've had so far, besides the ones I had when I was young. I also pride myself on making a mean apple pie. My grandma is an old school woman and when I was young, reeally little, she taught me how to make one without measuring spoons or cups or anything. I've had a lot of people tell me I make the best apple pie they've ever tasted. Well, I've been beat. And I do not admit defeat often. I give credit where its due, but not often do I admit being beaten. Admittedly, the best apple pie I've ever had. I've also never really had a pecan pie I've liked but when I heard this amazing lady threw chocolate chips in one I got a few of her pie bites and oh my goodness. That's my favorite so far. I cannot wait to try a good portion of the rest of her flavors. I also think its admirable and amazing that she carries blackberry pie, a berry native to my father's home state. The pie was also good!

I'm being generous giving three stars. I purchased a small banana cream pie (got a coconut cream…read morepie) and a full sized cherry pie for a total of $50 minus a few pennies. I was excited to try "from scratch " baked goods. The crusts were average, did have a nice texture but did not taste homemade. The top crust of the cherry pie was a little undercooked. There was a lot of filler in the cherry pie, hence less cherries. The cherries did have a nice texture and tart flavor. High crust to filling ratio. The coconut pie was very sweet and had a nice consistency, though it was not what is ordered. I did not want to drive back to the bakery so sharing the pie with others. For the price, the pies were subpar and did not have a homemade flavor.

We stumbled across this restaurant on our trip to Evansville to visit the LST, and the Cross Eyed…read moreCricket was nearby. Trusting their website advice to overlook the appearance of their restaurant, which is located in an older house in a more industrial area, we decided to have dinner in a non traditional restaurant, and we were very glad that we did. The service was excellent, so friendly and efficient that we could have been in a 5 star restaurant. But you wouldn't find food that good in most fancy restaurants. We started with a plate of fried green tomatoes, and while no one is ever going to fix them as well as Daddy did in his iron skillet, they provided a dip to join them that was quite good... certainly, not one that Daddy ever thought of! Auntie had the pulled pork dinner with mashed potatoes and gravy & apple sauce. She ordered the appetizer brussell sprouts, and they were amazing! Hubby went with one of his favorite meals: fried catfish; yes, he almost inhaled it! As always, his German fried potatoes were great, and what can you really say about cottage cheese? It was there, and he ate it I went for the kubuki steak with fried cabbage & onions & mushrooms. The fried rice was delicious, but the ribeye took "delicious" to a whole new level! Oh! My goodness! It practically melted in my mouth! And the cabbage!! Wonderful! The "50's" down-home furnishings were likely family hand-me-downs & yard-sale finds, not particularly pretty but serviceable and authentic. Everything was very clean, even the too-small restroom, which reminded me of the first one my grandmother ever had in her house. Again, it was clean, but there was a leak on the restroom floor, something that can easily be repaired. If you are looking for upscale decor, don't come here. But if you want terrific food, friendly service, and a delightful experience, be sure to visit the Cross Eyed Cricket; it's wonderful! I understand there's a sister Cross Eyed Cricket in a three-story building right in the middle of the charming downtown. Their food might be almost as good as we had, but I think the lost atmosphere will detract from the visit. It's your call!

The menu tonight was predetermined with great options. Service was a little slow tonight, but that is to be expected when the entire restaurant is at capacity with reservations. My husband and I loved the appetizers. It was a sample of shrimp cocktail, spinach dip with pita bread, and sriracha honey bacon brussel sprouts. I ordered the garden salad for my next course while my husband chose the broccoli mushroom chowder. We each enjoyed our choice. For the main course I had the marinated grilled chicken with creamy spinach and artichoke, and my husband had the 16 ounce bone in ribeye. Both main dishes came with a twice baked potato and roasted vegetables (broccoli, cauliflower, carrots, green beans, bell pepper). My chicken was slightly overcooked, but it wasn't too noticeable with the creamy topping. My husband's steak was cooked to perfection. We both enjoyed the sides. We got dessert to go as we were so full by that point. I chose the carrot cake and he got the cheesecake. Our son was very happy we decided to bring the desserts home so he could also try them. Both were delicious, but the carrot cake was the standout. We look forward to returning to have their regular menu.
