Went to celebrate a job promotion with my hubby. It was his first time. The food was amazing. We ordered several appetizers and entrees.

Updated review: had dinner here for the second time n my experience was totally the opposite. Dinner served was cold, my drinks and papad served were taken away while I visited the rest room etc etc. they agreed for their bad service and serving me dinner not as per my placed order and reduced my bill to half.... still my evening dinner was ruined! Amazing restaurant... they also serve half of each vegetarian dish you order. The food was great just need to improve on the wait time to be seated. Will come back here:-) read more

Nothing but solid New York style pizza, time after time. It's been our family favorite for over a decade. The older I get, I don't need to be wowed, I just need people to do what they say they will do. These guys deliver (I mean, I always do take out, but you know what I mean.) read more

Excellent food with a great atmosphere and service at an affordable price. Not what I expected to find in Austin and loved it.

We've ordered once. We got their Dal Makhani and Channa Masala. They have 4 spiciness levels and we didn't know if mild or hot were best (since they have "Desi hot") so we ordered both medium and hot. The dishes were tasty and wholesome. We were able to eat the "hot" versions but will stick to medium next time since it's got enough of a kick read more

This place is way cool. Everyone was really nice to us. We were seated quickly without our complete party, which was great bc we were in a bit of a hurry bc of our imax movie coming up. The food was so good! we got about 5 dishes and 3 types of nan for 4 adults and 2 kids and it was plenty to eat! To top it off this building is OLD... Apparently there is a ghost that haunts here. Some stories say it's a woman, some say it's a little boy. Whatever the case it has lots of history and it is a really neat space. I have been to party's here both up stairs and down in the past, and i haven't ever come across any "ghosts". read more

My favorite Indian restaurant in Austin! My favorite thing to do is get the mixed plate and then order every sauce they have on the menu.

Food was good but service was horrible. Honestly wouldn't come back just bc of the service. read more

Clay Pit - A lot of a lot - Indian Near Me - Austin, Texas

The food is so good and i absolutely LOVE the drinks. Mark, is an amazing bartender. I always get the Foran 75, a beautiful floral-gin, champagne cocktail that is more on the sweet side. After Mark learned i prefer drinks less sweet, he started using Brut champagne instead of the sweeter version, and it CHANGED the game. They go down a bit too smooth, Lol. Loved the customization and attention to detail! read more

Fantastic contemporary Indian food in the heart of Austin. Highly recommend!! Our table of 8 had Batata Cham , Coconut curry, Tikka Masala - (Curry) tomato, Saag - chicken, and Kashmiri kofta korma and other dishes as well. We had novice Indian food eaters and seasoned veterans and spice levels of mild, medium and hot. All delicious!! read more

We really enjoyed this place! We each had a curry plate. I had the Tikka Masala and Lawrence had the Korma both with chicken. I got mine at 'medium' spice but I feel like I should've gotten the 'hot' instead. Other than that everything was delish! I suggest the Mango Lassi as well for you mango lovers out there. Our meal was less than 30$ and we also had an order of Naan bread as well. They also have the buffet option which is $9 per person. We left very satisfied with the service. read more

The lunch buffet is pretty good value with a fair selection. The food is fresh and well made. Servers have always been nice. Happy hour food prices are very good at half off apps with a small bar area that isn't packed on most days. A nice change from the center of downtown happy hours. read more

The ambience, the portion size, the service in this place is really good. Food is not different from any other average Indian restaurant.

This is good place to eat indian food in austin. Their dal makhani, palak paneer naan was nice. Dhingri matar paneer was my favorite in this restaurent read more

What happened to this place. Service was okay but food got bad. Mango lassi was good and vegetable samosa was average. The butter chicken seemed too much gravy and at hot was not hot at all. Thandoori chicken was possibly worst I had. Went here on a weekend and was excited after 7 years to try out my favorite--Thandoori ribeye which is what made this place great to only find out they removed it--was very disappointed. I get the beef angle but what stopped you before and you did good then. read more

Something tells me to give this place another shot. Went in on Tuesday and I was told it would be 45 mins to an hour. No big deal so I sit down at the bar and wait. I wait an hour and 40 mins. I think the only reason I got a table was because I went up multiple times and asked. I get a table and the server comes over, drops off water and leaves. Roughly 20 minutes later the server comes back by and takes my order. Another hour goes by with no food. I'd lost my appetite so I decided to leave. I told the bartender and he was apologetic. I gave 2 stars because the bartender was incredibly friendly. Everything else was terrible. read more

This is a review specifically for to-go food, only because I have not had a chance to make it to the restaurant in person since the to-go has never let us down, having had it over 15 times in the past 3 years. Clay Pit was the first Indian food I tried in Austin, and while I've since found some great Indian buffet places for lunch, this remains my favorite for both delivery and for take-out Indian food. The packaging logistics alone make Clay Pit the best choice for delivery/to-go orders, because the naan is still great in texture/flavor when you get home, and the dishes are still saucy and warm as well. Onto the food, I loved the Chicken Tikka Masala so much when I first had it, I've ordered it probably 8 times in total out of 15, while my wife tried a different dish every time, often vegetarian. This worked out perfectly, because as we shared dishes often I learned that their vegetarian dishes are just like the meat dishes in deliciousness! One of my favorite vegetarian dishes is the Korma. I also really like how ordering spicier and spicier versions of their dishes doesn't make them bitter, but only spicy. We've also tried a variety of the different naan options, though the garlic and basil probably remains our favorite. Overall, this is one of our favorite Indian restaurants in Austin. read more

Great food. Beyond great. My take out order was missing two items, however. Delays in the kitchen, less than friendly hostess managing take out orders. So...great food. Management could step up, too.... read more

Great food, poor service. We had a large party of 18 people who came for dinner while we were in town for our work event. Half of our table received their food and they were finished eating before the rest of us received our dishes. I had to ask more than once for my soda to be refilled and had to ask twice for a to go box. Again, zero complaints in terms of food quality, taste and portion size. Low quality customer service. read more

I've been here before, but this was my first time coming for their weekday lunch buffet! My friend Genny with a G and I came around 11 am, which is when they open. Usually, the service is e x t r e m e l y slow but since this is a lunch buffet, everything is already pre prepared and therefore super fast. I checked the menu online before and saw their non-vegetarian entrees for Friday were chicken tikka masala and tandoori chicken, which are my favorites so of course we had to come. Their weekday prices are also cheaper than weekend prices at $9, which is honestly super worth it considering each entree at dinner are usually well over $13. Food was really good--chicken tikka was on point, tandoori chicken was juicy, and their other vegetarian dishes were also pretty tasty. Also came with free naan! Overall, I love how the buffet lowers the service time but the quality of the food is the same high rating. Would come again on Fridays :) (Note: parking is hell to find, they have a private parking lot but it's only open for dinner) read more

Food quality was really bad tonight, we have ordered in the past and it has been good, so maybe just an off night? Biggest miss was the chicken tikka masala. The chicken quality was extremely poor, mostly connective tissue and inedible. We had actually called ahead to ask if it was white meat, we were assured it was, though it in fact was not. The sauce was also watery and not spicy at all(ordered hot). Really weird, bad experience from our prior go to Indian restaurant. Update: owner has very nicely apologized and offered a partial refund, will try again and update the review accordingly, probably was just an off night. read more

The food was really good especially the non-vegetarian options! Loved the appetisers! The vegetarian food was not as good, the malai kofta had stuffed vegetables which were over boiled read more

This was an excellent dinner. I love Indian food but am very picky about it and I will be back here for a second, third...

I've never had butter chicken with the vegetables that was in it. It didn't taste like butter chicken at all.

TAKE HEED of the reviews that Yelp "doesn't recommend" as they offer a true representation of this establishment. After the horror of dealing with Postmates I contacted Clay Pit directly. It took weeks and multiple emails to get a poorly worded and curt message back. Clay Pit also refused a refund, even a partial one for the inedible items, and instead offered measly coupons that had multiple attached strings (as in spend $20 get a free app). After spending so much money on their food it was insulting. read more

I'm very sad to only be giving out two stars! I came to the Clay pit for the first time a month ago- and today was my fourth visit since then! Obviously my experience started out strong- 4.5 stars for the first two visits- but the last two have drastically changed my mind. First two visits: food was exactly what I had hoped for- the wait was a bit long, but what can you expect on a weekend night? Wait staff was pretty good. Thus declaring this my go to spot the next few weeks. Third visit was last weekend for brunch... I had wanted to branch out from my beloved Tikki Masala by trying some new things. Unfortunately the brunch did not include the Tikka Masala option and I didn't find anything else to really compare. Wait staff was also pretty much a Fourth visit was tonight and I am just frustrated with the whole experience. We arrived at 7 and were told it would be a 45 minute wait- maybe an hour. We agreed and got ourselves a drink. An hour came and went... I checked back in with the hostess who kindly said they were just waiting for people to get up from their tables. While waiting again, I saw three tables open up and remain unseated for 15+ minutes. We ended up waiting about TWO HOURS by the time we got our table. If we had any indication this would be the wait time we never would have waited around. To top it off, we both ordered the mild Masala, and a few bites in my mouth was on fire. That's when I found an entire jalapeño pepper slice in my meal. Luckily my husband switched his, but I had to use the naan to help curb the burn. When we requested more naan (we didn't get much to begin with) we were told it would be a 10 minute wait. By that time we would have been done with our meals, so we passed on it and I'm just left with a foul taste in my mouth from the whole evening. Update: after a bit of a break we returned tonight and the food really is just so delicious and we had a great server so I've upped the review by a star. read more

Love clay pit! I bit overpriced but still yummy! I usually get the tikka masala or butter chicken and naan.

Great restaurant and location. The food and the service are amazing. Totally recommended.

Awesome food. Recommend: Butter chicken, Mughlai Chicken, Chicken Tikka Masala, Khuroos-E-Tursh (you can order with chicken or lamb or vegan) Both garlic and basil Naan and thee cheese Naan are delicious read more

Super incredible Indian food in a cool old Austin building. Parking stinks, we had to find street parking across the street. Bur best Indian I think I've ever had! This place is serious, so a reservation is almost required. We did not have one on a Thursday night at 5:50 and almost did not get seated. They basically gave us a reserved table and hoped we would be done before they got there (we were). Loved the mango lassi and raspberry hibiscus teas, appreciated that the tea was unsweetened. The veg samosas and sauces were so worth the fried calories. The chicken ones, however, I did not care for. Reminded me of fried chicken salad, had a mushy texture. The garlic and basil naan was very good and garlicky. However, the plain naan was really the best, really could taste the bread rather than the garlic. Wish I could remember the names of all the other dishes. The one with lamb in a brown sauce was incredible. The fresh flavors! The chicken dish with cashew almond cream sauce was delicious. And the chicken Tikka masala was the absolute best I ever had. Rather than just being creamy, it really had excellent flavors. The portions seemed too small when they were delivered to the table, but we filled up quick and it was more than enough. The bill was steep however at $100 incl tip. But worth it. read more

Truthfully, I would not even give this resturant a one star. I would not recommend this place to anyone as our experience was HORRIFIC. There were a group of 12 ladies out celebrating A FEW DAYS post COVID Vaccination. we reached the restaurant at 8pm. The service was so HORRIBLE that we did not get our appetizer until 9:30 and our food came at 10:30. The food was terrible. It was spicy and very cold as it they took it out of the fridge and microwaved it. Next, we made had some special accommodations for few people with diet restrictions. An email was send to the manager a week in advanced with the diet restriction. The manager Arjun called me back and he stated on the phone that he would accommodate them and they will have quite a few choices. But when we reached to the restaurant we were told that it was not possible and the manager did not say he would accommodate them. Basically saying we were lying when we had the email to prove it. We asked to speak with Arjun but he did not have the courage or the audacity to come out to apologize to us or apologize for giving us the wrong information. Four of our group member did not eat anything That night. But all hell broke loose when we reserved our Table one week in advanced and payed the $50 dollar deposit. But when it came time to pay our bill the manager lied and said they did not receive the deposit. Thankfully we had a confirmation email that the deposit was successfully made. But still the manager was arguing with us. This time we asked to speak with the owner. When we spoke to the owner, he stated " I am off today so please speak with our manager" What type of owner says that to his customer?????? RIDICULOUS! What owner in his or her sound mind says this to their customer ????? This was unacceptable! This was our worst experience and will never ever go back there. Honestly I would not even recommend this restaurant to my enemy. If I would, I would give zero star. read more

Clay Pit has a nice rustic ambience for dates, birthdays and gatherings. The food is great (especially the butter chicken) and it has slow, but good service. The drinks are strong. The Mexican Martini tastes like a Margarita, and it's alright. Try the cream cheese and jalapeño naan. It's life changing! read more

I enjoy Clay Pit's food but am very disappointed to the experience I had tonight. I was attempting to call them and when they picked up I hear "Thank you for calling Clay Pit--" then abruptly put on hold. I was on hold for almost 10 minutes! When I walked in, there was no one at the counter. When I politely mentioned this at the counter person, he said "It's grad weekend and we are expected to make over $5000 and you can either deal with it or go order from someone else." So rather than be humble and apologize for the delay, this person was rude and unprofessional giving me A LOT of attitude. Regardless of my complaint, a business' employee should never speak like that to anyone! I am leader of a large group of vegetarians the frequent this place, but we will be going elsewhere from here on out. read more

Easily the best Indian food I've tried in Austin. Snazzy restaurant with good cocktails as well. My favorites were the chicken samosas and the butter chicken with garlic naan. Highly recommend giving this place a try. read more

The Clay Pit is one of my favorite Indian restaurants. They have lots of amazing vegetarian food and great ambience.

First time at Clay Pit! Loved the food, ambience, service and the overall experience. Very crowded (felt nice after the pandemic), and upbeat! We ordered the Mixed grill, garlic basil naan, onion cilantro naan, lamb roganjosh and the khurush-e-toorsh(apologies I might get the spelling wrong). Loved the last dish especially! Good portion size, had to get to-go boxes later. Forgot to take pictures, because too busy enjoying the moment read more

Great Indian food with multiple options. Get your bookies before you hear out. Full bar too.

Definetely an off night for this upscale eatery. Pakora appetizer served cold and soggy, not appetizing!! Had to send back to be reheated. Both main course dishes were luke warm. Naan came out cold and patially uncooked. Total dissapointment for a highly antcipated meal based on past visits. Hopefully they can be more consistent in the future read more

We'd been to Clay Pit once before almost three years ago and hadn't been back until last night when we went with two of our friends. There was a 25 minute wait--on a Sunday night, all while there was an entire section available that apparently they had no staff for. WTF. We sat at the bar to get drinks and most of us stuck to beer. The bartender there was a complete snob and everybody seemed out of sorts, as though they had no idea what was going on. The food was nowhere near as good as we remembered from last time. The chicken samosas were bland-ish; the tikka masala was completely standard; the chana saag was fine, but not outstanding. The only dish that we found to be somewhat memorable was the seafood in garlic and red wine, which suffered from not having that many pieces of actual seafood (i.e. two shrimp). Overall, pretty good, but would be run-of-the-mill in a bigger city. Service sucked all around: it was hasty and inattentive. We had been looking forward to coming here again since we recall a much better experience last time, but this place has really gone down. We feel no pressing need to be back anytime soon. read more
