An absolute favorite restaurant for our family! We love the food, the ambiance, and the service staff.

Best Indian food in Austin. Slightly pricey but not bad for what you are getting. The building that clay pit is in is like 150+ years old and haunted check it out! read more

The ambience, experience and service was great. However, the food literally sucked!! Really disappointing. I ordered rice and lamb (their signature dish) but the gravy was so watery !!! DAM The lamb was a little tough too and didn't really enjoy it I would't go here again for a good dinner Please improve the quality of your food !! + it was expensive $33 for 2 people where only 1 dish was ordered read more

Clay Pit - Indian Near Me - Austin, Texas

Nice staff, good food. Really enjoyed the goat curry. Quick and casual, would definitely go back again.

Ah Clay Pit. This place was popular before the Austin food scene exploded and for some reason I haven't been back for a while. I was surprised at how tasty it was! We had the Goat Curry and we ordered it Desi Hot! It was actually really spicy and I cried a little bit. The sauce was amazing. We also had the Tandoori Mixed Grill. The chicken was tender and flavorful. I thought the beef was a bit chewy. Next time I am just ordering the chicken mixed grill. Also had the Mango Pina Colada! Delicious! Small parking lot available after 6 pm but street parking is pretty easy if you are willing to walk 2 blocks or so. read more

I really enjoyed my dining experience here. The food was authentic, well seasoned and the portions were large. I went with 3 other people and we ordered a bunch of dishes and shared. My one friend is vegan and there was plenty to accommodate her as well. Their rice and nann was delicious and I could have just made a meal out of that. They had a yelp check in offer of a discount appetizer so we did use that. Overall it wasnt expensive for how much we got and their wine selection was very well laid out. read more

My favorite place to eat when I come into town! Great food, great service! Cheese naan is really great. Would call ahead for reservations for the weekends. read more

Is it just me or are the portions really really small??? We ordered the batata cham, chicken tikka masala, lamb vindaloo, an order of aloo naan, and an order of palak paneer naan. When the chicken tikka masala and the vindaloo came out, we both were kind of shocked. That's it? Really? Why so small?! BUT it was SO FREAKING TASTY. I think both of us wanted it spicier but besides that the flavors were spot on. The wtf moment though was when we realized how little chicken was in the tikka masala. Maybe like 6-7 small pieces...it was like 10 to 1 sauce to chicken ratio...pretty off. And I was kind of bummed that they charge 3.50 for only one batata cham patty but it was also really tasty. Also the aloo naan was stuffed significantly less than the palak paneer naan. The portions at this place seem way off to me compared to other places of similar prices. The service was eh okay. I didn't think it was that busy because I could see a lot of the waiters just standing around chatting but when I looked around, most of the tables were filled. I'm really really torn. The flavors were awesome but the portions were so off. Will I be back? I don't know... read more

Clay Pit - Looks more like a tikka masala soup... - Indian Near Me - Austin, Texas

I live in Houston sadly, far away from Clay Pit! I count the days until I visit Austin and eat here! KORMA DISH IS AMAZING!!! read more

Went for wife's birthday dinner - put the note in for the reservation - hostess greeted her by name (which of course is always welcomed:) - service was great, dinner was of course great. We were stuffed, but waiter wanted us to have a dessert, she asked for the Creme brulee to go - he shrugged and brought us a to go bag. Next day, she opens bag to have her dessert and there is a Creme brulee dish in the to go box - they went probably too far in accommodating us! Great service, great dinner, great ambiance - true 5 star dinner for us. read more

I love coming to Clay Pit for their lunch buffet! It's less than $10 on weekdays and there's a nice variety of curries, meats, salads, desserts, and vegetarian items as well. The buffet menu changes day to day but they have it posted on their website if you want to check before you go. Also they have a discount for students, just show them your school ID! The naan is included in the lunch buffet, you just have to ask for it. It is super soft and fluffy. If you can't make the lunch buffet, the menu items are good as well and fairly priced. My fave curries are the coconut and korma. I start drooling every time I walk by, so definitely give it a try! read more

Clay Pit - Lamb Vindaloo and Lamb Tikka Masala + naan - Indian Near Me - Austin, Texas

Food was good, but the only thing that really stood out to me was the heavenly mango cheesecake. The sauce they pour over it is so good, super sweet and fruity. The naan isn't the fluffiest or most flavorful I've had. The chicken tikka masala was good, but not spectacular. I've had better Indian food in Austin, frankly. read more

The menu offers multiple options, including vegetarian dishes. With refined, delicate dishes, Clay Pit style is truly progressive. It aims to show the world what can be done with merging Indian and western flavours in a contemporary setting. Shared 5 dishes and every one was wonderful. Every time we go, it's simply great. Indian fusion food, served in a faboulous ambiance, perfect atmosphere. The cocktails are delicious with an Indian flare of flavor. The food is exquisitely tasty with a punch of flavor and a nice balance of different textures and tastes. The service is top notch too and incredibly attentive. read more

The food was wonderful - the calamari appetizer was a generous portion and was very tender. Our group of 3 had Khuroos-E-tursh (sauce is amazing), mixed grill and korma that we all shared. My only complaint would be the staff clearing away the plates before we were all done eating. Even though the entree was gone, there was still the delicious sauce on the plate that we probably would have finished off with the naan. They also took away the rice before everyone in our party was done. read more

Clay Pit - Yummy cocktails while we wait for our food - Indian Near Me - Austin, Texas

Nice Indian fusion food choice - no food service at the bar which is odd. Returned to this place after 12 years last month when I visited Austin. Server disappeared for extended periods despite the fact that the place was not overly busy. Seems to be a lot of take out business. The ambiance of the location makes it a unique Indian food location. Location and food make this place. read more

I highly recommend this place for dinner! There's a parking deck next door that has free parking after 6pm, but be careful because the parking deck across the street charges $3 for 30 min. I could smell the amazing spices from my parking spot, and the wait staff was very nice and friendly. The cellar/basement part of the restaurant is really cool (which is where we are), and the building had a lot of history too. The food and mango lassi were amazing, our waitress gave us good recommendations as well. I'm definitely going here again! read more

This place is great. drinks, great menu and food, cool restaurant. I had the lamb which was great, my brother got the butter chicken and it was so good. If you like spicy food, you need to get the hot level. I got the medium and I should've gone hotter like my waiter told me too. I want to try the goat next time. Place fucking slaps. read more

I've been to clay pit for dinner and thought it was good. Today I was craving for some indian food and decided to order it for lunch. I order what I always get: jeera saag. When I picked it up today and tried it at home, it was horrible. I have never tasted such bad jeera saag in my life. I still feel sick from it and couldn't even finish it. The lunch meal was horrible and it didn't even come with the naan that it said it would. I don't think I'll be coming back for lunch again. read more

Clay Pit has happy hourrrrrr! If you want just cheap appetizers and cheaper drinks, you can sit in the bar area and enjoy samosas or chicken tandoori. No curries are on happy hour, though. I have never experienced their lunch buffet. I've only done dinner and happy hour. Dinner here is excellent. They have really unique naan choices, some even involve cream cheese (YUM). All of their curries are great. The goat curry is especially tasty. Cocktails here are great too. They have a champagne cocktail that they mix with their curry infused vodka. It is dangerously delicious. read more

Upscale Indian restaurant in a very cool old Austin building! Lucky for me, it has a number of delicious vegetarian options - including channa masala, channa saag, malai kofta, kashmiri kofta korma (my personal favorite), and more! Happy hour is M-F, 4-7, and the deals are pretty good! $1 off drinks and half off certain appetizers - ask at the bar! Great cocktails! All in all, a great place! read more

I'm changing my Clay Pit star-rating from 3 to 4. I had a very nice experience regarding customer service the other evening when I waited for takeout at the bar. The bar tender and hosts were all very friendly and accommodating. The food we picked up was very good too. Word of advice! I would avoid the crab cake appetizer. It's the only menu item that I've tried so far and not liked. I think they are probably frozen, and they are overly salty. You can't really taste the crab. The sauce is great, but the cake itself is not worth it seeing as there are so many other delicious menu items to choose from. Go with the mussels or the samosas for an appetizer. read more

Clay Pit - Some delicious infused something with club soda. - Indian Near Me - Austin, Texas

Beautiful location, wonderful food, well packaged delivery. This is one of my favorite places in Austin for Indian cuisine. Tandoor is old and seasoned and you can taste it. Lovely variety read more

I would give this place 3.5 stars. The food is really quite good, and I think appeals to both first time eaters of Indian food and people who have been eating it all their lives. Tomato cucumber salad- great taste but the pieces were a little big for our liking. Tandoori broccoli- an interesting fusion dish, but the broccoli was not sufficiently cooked Samosa Chaat- excellent choice for starter, very flavorful Vegetable Ayam- delicious vegetable curry with almost a nod to Thai style curries Shrimp coconut curry- also delicious, went wonderfully with the rice Malai Kabab- good, especially with the sauce Were it not for the service I would have given the food 4.5 stars. To be fair it was a busy Friday night, but there were two things that really brought the experience down for us. Firstly, the naan came out ten to fifteen minutes before the actual mains, because the server was waiting for the Malai Kabab to come from the kitchen with the rest of our entrees. While this was considerate on our server's part, and fortunately the naan was still soft, it was a little cold and not as satisfying an experience as it could have been. Secondly, the server rushed us through the conclusion of our meal, and didn't even ask if we would like desserts. I could have understood if the restaurant were very busy, but by this time in the evening the dining room was half full. It definitely left a sour taste at the end of our meal, as a chai Creme brûlée might have been a lovely way to conclude our anniversary dinner. All in all, I will definitely be back, but probably not for a special occasion, ambience notwithstanding. read more

Not a fan of Indian food, but everything was amazing. We had a family style dinner and was able to sample many dishes.

Not impressed. Mediocre food. Slow service. Rice was stale I felt. Never again. I wouldn't recommend.

This place looked quite busy when we arrived on a Monday night. Our waiter was really nice and helped us decide on a couple dishes. Food was really good and hot. read more

Waking in Austin with the family decided to stop in Clay Pit. Learned that it is very good and it was actually delicious! Great service, delicious food, nice buffet and perfect rations if you order from the menu. We loved the naam, cashew and almond sauce, dessert and of course the butter chicken was delicious! Looking forward to come back and try more dishes!!! The place has a great location in Guadalupe close to UT. The building is beautiful. read more

Excellent food and service. The price was right for the quality of the food. Will definitely go back.

Think this place is over rated. The ambience and service is great but thr food taste and quality are just avg. We ordered the calamari and achaari paneer for appetizers and they were below avg. The veg pizza was decent though. Main course was mirch msala nd garlic naan - naan was half cooked. Unfortunately i wont return to this plce. read more

Ordered a delivery via Uber eats. I ordered the Goan Yellow curry, which looked great in pics. They charged me almost 20 bucks(including taxes) and the fish literally had one shrimp and 4 pieces of Broccoli. The worst part is that the taste was also garbage. Their nan is one of the worst ever, very soggy and stretchy. Total waste of money. Will never go back. read more

Very good Indian food. They give good portions, the food is always flavorful, and they have phenomenal naan bread. Their butter chicken and Mughali chicken are our favorite dishes on the menu. We also recently tried their calamari as an appetizer and were very pleased. It is definitely over priced though and always crowded. It is also hard to find parking on busy nights. Try to come early. read more

Great food! Tikka Masala and Yellow Curry were really good, Naan with garlic fantastic

Unreasonable delay and wait time to seat, order and to pay. Taste wasn't worth the wait either. Need to seriously think of service levels.

This is my favorite place for Indian food in Austin! I've tried about 4-5 places. We were seated on time and lucky enough to get a table in the cellar (dim and Romantic!). We got the samosas for an appetizer, and the lamb and chicken Tikka masala with garlic naan. We literally ate every last bite. Everything is extremely flavorful. The naan is perfect. We had an early dinner so there was parking available next to the building. Definitely will return when that Indian food craving strikes again. read more
