Went here today for the first time. The food was pretty good. Better than your standard diner fair--lots of interesting omlets. The service, however, could use some improvement. First, the coffee comes with one refill, which would be fine if the waitress ever came back to refill it. After repeatedly trying to get out waitress' attention, we gave up and decided to just make more coffee when we got home. Then it still took another 10 minutes for us to get a bill, and the place was only half full. I can't imagine what it's like on a busy morning. read more

We ate at Classic Cafe this morning for the first, and last time. The food left much to be desired. Our omelets had so much American cheese in them that it was all you could taste. The home fries tasted like boiled potatoes with seasoning on them and the coffee had definitely been sitting for a while. The one place I can go with tons of Gluten Free choices that are actually home made and delicious... like lentil soup, beef stew and a ton more! The portions are plentiful, the fruit fresh & always in season... a real treat! But it is also the friendly down home customer service that keeps my husband and I returning to The Classic Cafe. Excellent. One server conquered the entire cafe of around 30 people. Impressive! Terrific home-cooked food, gracious and friendly service, and charming atmosphere. This is THE PLACE for breakfast or brunch in Arlington. The staff recognized us after just 2 visits, and we never feel rushed. The Breakfast Burrito is superb - crammed full of spinach and other veggies. I've also had magnificent homemade beef stew in colder months. They have great Irish soda bread and will substitute that, toasted, for regular toast with your breakfast dish -- it's amazing. We went the other day for the second time and I got the raspberry pancakes I'd eyed the first time. I liked them a lot. The pancakes were filled with raspberries but not soggy and they topped them with powered sugar. It was a much better breakfast than the egg and cheese sandwich I got the first time around. My husband thought his french toast was just ok. He got an omelette the first time that I felt similarly about. The staff is nice and the place is kept clean, but so far nothing I've tried has made me want to eat there regularly. read more

This is my spot!! Huge breakfast menu and everything I've tried so far has been amazing (albanian omelet - try it!). Like another reviewer said, you kind of feel like you are in someone's kitchen, which is nice and cozy but can also be a bit crowded (especially when there is a little kid at the table behind you banging his toys on the table and you are just trying to nurse your hangover with some coffee and eggs OR when it's december and the only table open is the one right next to the door). But the food is amazing, the prices are great (I think we spend $30 including a big tip for 2 omelet/home fries/toast/coffees plus a juice plus a fruit plate), and the wait staff is awesome. They don't take cards, so be prepared for that, there are a few ATMs within a couple blocks of the place. in summary: mmmmm albanian omelet. read more

The Classic Cafe will definitely be our new breakfast place. The food is delicious and the menu is extensive -- so many omelets! So far we've tried the Irish, Aegean, Albanian & Portuguese. All were delicious and unique. We especially loved the Albanian & Portuguese. Who knew that meatballs & leeks would be so good with feta in an omelet!? The coffee & breakfast potatoes are also very good - another critical criteria for me. The service is generally good, and most of the waitresses seem to know EVERYONE who comes in. Today was the second time we went, and she actually remembered us, and asked us which was our favorite omelet to date. (The Albanian). A really friendly, relaxing breakfast atmostphere. read more

Awesome food with friendly wait staff. Breakfast Burrito is nutritious, and huge. Take half home for lunch. Wonderful omelets. My comment to the person who ordered grilled cheese and complains of ordinary food is, that's grilled cheese. It's ordinary. Usually 6-year-olds have it because they don't want the delightful mix of veggies and seasonings in other things. The fruit mountain that comes with some items is fresh, nothing from a can. This place is just a walk from home for me and I have gone there for breakfast two or three times a week for several years. The owners and much of the staff are from Albania so not all are comfortable with English, but Mimosa and Gerta are delightful, welcoming and friendly. You become a treasured guest very quickly here and they are open every day dependably. They have a huge menu of omelets, all very good, as well as interesting variations on the usual breakfast fare. I have not had much exposure to their luncheon offerings, but again they have an interesting variety. It's a great family place, especially for children and families, there is a supply of playthings which is a hit with kids. They do not yet accept credit cards, which is a slight problem for those who are new there, but definitely are worth a visit. read more

Like to go to a nice little local spot for breakfast or lunch, one where you enter and are greeted like an old friend, where the menu is big for a small place, where the food is good in an old-fashioned, made-from-scratch, family recipe way, ingredients fresh, price reasonable? There is no better meal than breakfast...that being said, the Classic Cafe is okay...but that is it...just okay. I got a sausage and cheese omelette that was cooked fine. The white toast is simply wonder bread type toast, that you butter yourself from packets. The orange juice is gallon plastic jug type for $2.50 a glass...I am not saying the place is not sufficient for a quick breakfast, but for the money there are places in surrounding towns that you will get way more bang for your buck. read more

I normally like greasy spoon, no-frills breakfasts, but this place was just awful. Should have known I was in for trouble when the waitress started walking away when I was mid-sentence trying to give her my order. "Home fries" were greasy, hunks of potato with no apparent seasoning other than salt. They had a strong fishy, off taste to them, which suggests a dirty grill or rancid oil. Really inedible. Side of bacon was served up in a pool of grease, and had the same off-fishy taste as the potatoes. Toast was stone cold and seemed to have been sitting around for a bit. Omelet was passable - only thing I felt I could really eat, and left the rest behind. All for a price tag of $11 which is pretty high for this type of fare. read more

The food here was nothing special, but the portions were on the large size which was great! However, the service we received was well below par. After waiting for some time we asked for 2 waters and then never received them and had to ask again when our food arrived. The place was fairly empty when we first got there but within 15-20 minutes it was full of families with small children who turned the quiet spot into a chattering noisy, imagine-make-believe playland with the bucket of toys sitting next to our table. This place was horrible. A friend was in town from NY and was staying in Arlington Heights. Her host recommended this as a decent breakfast place (neighborhood hole-in-the wall). When we entered, the owner was sitting at a table chatting with a customer and snapped her finger to have a waitress bring us the menu. We ordered a couple breakfast platters. The waitress asked us if we wanted toast. We asked if it came with, and she said yes; so we asked for whole wheat. A few minutes later, she came back with the owner and said 'sorry, it doesn't come with toast' and set our plates down. So that was fine. But come on, don't say it does and take it back. For their error, don't you think they could have afforded to give us two pieces of bread worth $0.50? The food was mediocre at best; eggs had some green spots which looked like rust from the pan. For a small family cafe, it was perfect. Cozy atmosphere, good food, good service. I went in with three of my kids (ages 4, 3, and 1-1/2) and the servers were wonderful to them. The worst breakfast I have ever had, I am trying to be nice because I want to support small mom and pops but they should close. My husband and I were shocked when we got the bill, which was like $35 for two ppl. The food did not taste fresh and the portion was so small. First off, let me preface this by saying that I do not eat beef or pork. I have no problem with anyone else eating beef or pork, but I just don't...like some people don't eat broccoli or raw tomatos etc. I have to say that the service I received at Classic Cafe on 2 occassions was some of the worst customer service I have ever received...ever. For brunch I really enjoy eating eggs and homefries, but also like pancakes too. The only thing on their menu that had this combo was the 2, 2,2 combo. 2 pancakes, 2 eggs, and 2 bacons strips etc. The first time I ordered this i asked for the combo with no meat. The waitress looked at me like i had 5 heads and said " why do you want to do that for!". I mean I wan't asking for a discount on the meal, i just wanted it with no meat. i was willing to pay for the meat. I explained that I didn't eat meat and she insisted that i order eggs and a side of a pancake. Whatever. I am usually willing to give a place a second try. A few weekends ago we went back there. Again i ordered the 2, 2,2 combo. This time I asked for the meat on a seperate plate, so I could give it to my boyfriend. The (same) waitress recoiled and said that she couldn't do that....why?.. it would be too "confusing" for the cooks was her excuse. First of all: theres a little thing called CUSTOMER SERVICE...I wasn't asking for anything difficult, or complicated, or even that unreasonable. People ask for dressing on the side all of the time. It's not that crazy. Secondly: Who the hell do you have cooking for you that can't possibly fathom the idea or putting meat on a seperate plate? She asked if she could put it on the same plate but over to the side. I was annoyed already by her previous respose so i said fine. When my food came, meat was draped over one half of my plate. I was pretty furious but felt like complaining would do no good, so i ate around it we paid and left. I am not a hard person to please but i think simple requests like this should always be done graciously and without hesitation. Needless to say i will not be going back. read more

Home fries had no seasoning, toast was served cold with rock-hard butter. Nothing else. Husband had two pancakes (which were heavy as lead), 2 small, dried-out sausage links, coffee. Coffee was very weak. Bill came to almost $16! I thought it had to be a mistake. When I questioned the waitress, she was really annoyed. She had charged us for items as side orders, not as the menu stated. I have never in my life not tipped a server, and usually tip 20% or more. Today, I made an exception. Not only was she nasty, she ignored us when we tried to get her attention as soon as we discovered that all of our food was cold. Unfortunately, I cannot give zero stars. read more

Arlington seems to be pretty light on sit down breakfast spots. So we decided to go here on around 11 a.m. on a Sunday. It was packed but after some shuffling we got two seats at the counter. We both got coffee, which was good. The women who were working at the counter were awesome, but they informed us head chef had called in sick and that is would take longer for our food to come out. After almost an hour our food did come. My girlfriend got a three cheese omelet and I got the Irish Benedict. Sadly mine looked very unappealing no matter how much sauce there was over it. But I was so hungry I tried it. It seemed the more I picked at it the uglier it got, to the point where I could not eat anymore. I felt very bad leaving my plate almost full but there was no way I could do it. The woman serving us kindly replaced my old meal, with an egg, toast, and bacon which was very good. I would definitely go back but I will just stick to the basics, which they seem to do well. read more
