This bar is clearly a popular spot on weekends. THey seemed to have redone the inside because the space looks very clean and well kept. The pluses are real darts - and I am not talking about the plastic crap that is no good. I usually get the Moscow Mule because it comes in the classic copper cup. Always makes a difference. The night we were there had kareoke. Nothing like drunk people singing. It was entertaining even though I didn't have the courage to get up a sing. Definitely a spot to hit. Parking can be a little tricky because it is at a major intersection. If there aren't any spots you have to roam the neighborhood and hope for some luck. read more

You know, I checked out this bar on their January Muirskin Derkin (or however it's spelled; I can't be bothered to check properly) when they have $3.75 Guinness and Harp and live Celtic music. The Dirges played and were awesome. Open with a Pogues song? Yes, please. The vibe was fun and upbeat, the service was cool, well, to me. The only weird thing was that there were a lot of 40-somethings there. I think I went on some sort of club meet-up night, but whatever. Guy-to-girl ratio is like... eight to one. Funniest bar Iv been to and the best Karaoke ever!!! They had every song, every type of singer and the entire crowd joined in. Lucky for us Guinness Amon draught and Magners cider. Ed, the doorman / bouncer / host was formidable and gentle at the same time. Found us a table and told us about Nashville his home town. They also have a nice outdoor area. Came here for breakfast on a Sunday, was craving greasy food...yeah had one of those kind of night. Ordered under specialties menu: Had the hangover which consisted of biscuit and gravy, 2 poached eggs, 2 bacon, 2 sauage on the side; seemed liked small portion but was delicious, gravy was house made. The portion size was perfect. I liked how the gravy didn't made my biscuits soggy, was still crisp the outside, soft and pillowy inside. The boyfriend ordered the corned beef hash, topped with 2 poached eggs, rye toast. This was delicious too. I'd order this next time! I was skeptical coming here but so glad my boyfriend was persisted on giving this as an option. Service was friendly and helpful. Food is actually pretty good, it's divey too but they've been around a long time in Long Beach, family owned. Definitely a fan! read more

The second time I was here the same bartender disrupted the music to ask patrons who was blocking another patron's car in the parking lot. Sold! I used to love this place, but I will never go back after being treated terribly about a medical condition. My boyfriend and I go there all the time. We live 1/2 a block away. Recently, we went over there, and parked in the lot. I have a medical condition that gives me seizures, and was not feeling well, so I asked my boyfriend to walk me home, which he did. Afterwards, he returned to Clancy's with a nasty note on his car about never parking there again, even though he returned in the night. I should note that the owner knows I have a medical condition, so I would have expected him to hold his judgement. When my boyfriend tried to clear it up, the bartender was rude and dismissive. If you have ever seen someone have a seizure in public (or had an ounce of empathy) you would understand why we had to go home first. If you have ever had a seizure, you would understand why I will never return. We used to come here for mediocre drinks, and good service, but considering that the bartender acted like seizures are not terrifying, or an understandable reason for leaving our car in their lot for an hour. Also, the bathroom is disgusting. The place is dirty, and watching their bartenders, you notice they often do not sterilize their glasses in the cleaning process. Yuck! read more

This place doesn't give you what you pay for! Went here for the first time last night for my friends birthday. Atmosphere is good, but when we went to order Irish car bombs, they only gave us a quarter of a glass of Guinness (barely enough to cover the shot glass) when we asked for a real glass of Guinness, they said that "it would overflow" if they put any more in. When we dropped the bomb, the liquid only filled about half the glass. Pretty disappointing for a $8.50 car bomb. read more

If I lived in Long Beach, I'd probably hang out at a bar like Clancy's. I'd grow bored of the high end ritzy bars near the Long Beach Convention Center. I'd avoid the strip of bars on 2nd Street. This area is full of "Jersey Shore" rejects in glittery Affliction t-shirts gawking at young women dressed so inappropriately you figure they were auditioning to be the next Playboy Playmate, Vivid Vixen, or "stereotypical insecure girl with daddy issues." Clancy's feels like home to me. The place is a chill, laid back neighborhood bar. It's the kind of place where the wounded can go and feel safe. It's the kind of place lonely people go to meet new friends. It's kind of place happy people go with the their friends to meet new friends. It's the kind of place super happy people go with their new friends to meet even more new friends. For me, it was the lonely traveler letting his frustrated coworker talk about his marital issues before we grabbed a late night meal at Roscoe's Chicken and Waffles. Everyone greeted us kindly and there was a low level of DBs here. For the record, DB stands for "dumb boys," but you can let it stand for something else if you wish. Please let your imagination run wild. Anyway, there were a few chill guys with tattoos that welcomed us to Long Beach, since I think they could tell we weren't from the area. It might have been my trade show ID badge wrapped around my neck. A couple of friendly lesbians gave us tips as to where to go in the area, some places for me to shop for La Novia, and invited both of us back for karaoke and live cover bands later in the week. I never made it out for those events, but all in all, it was a pleasant experience here and I can image being a regular at Clancy's if I lived in the area. Thanks to the energy and friendliness of the crowd, coupled with the Jack Daniel's whiskey and a pint of Guinness, it all lead to my coworker feeling a lot better. You have to love bars that can heal your wounds. Or at least let you leave your wounds behind. read more

As in any other dive bar, Clancy's offers the typical darkened drinking hole with little difference between other divey, bluesy, smelly, Irish-themed liquor holes other than the unjustifiable offense of not offering Bass or Harp ales. For an Irish pub, I consider this a travesty little assuaged by the Guinness on tap. To make a Black 'n Tan with anything other is something of a crime in my book. Clean restrooms are a plus even though the poorly marked women's bathroom forces a balanced, risky walk between the wall and the guitarist or slipping a heel into a coil of wire and spilling the whole fooking band. Food service was slow and a simple "Okay" on the tuna sandwich...but the chips were good, salty and crisp. But no Harp or Bass in an "Irish" pub? Faith 'n Begorrah! I'm just going to come right out and say it. Clancy's had the most stellar line-up of karaoke singers I've seen to this day in my life. And I've seen a lot of karaoke line-ups thanks to Sir Nicholas' love for this kind of entertainment. I mean whether it was the trio of Latino men affectionately going as "Cookie" singing some sort of 20s' classic or the woman I thought looked a lot like my great aunt Betty rocking some Stevie Nicks people were killing songs left and right. Throw in a doorman who was so nice he actually offered to find us a second stool so we could sit at the only vacant table (that only had one stool) and splits of Freixenet and I think I'm going to be considered a regular here before too long on karaoke night. Who knows? I may even bring the stellar line up of singers down a little and get into the rotation myself given enough mini-bottles of bubbly. read more

That's basically what I remember from my first visit to Clancy's, thanks to Ladyhawk aka Tiffany. THANKS A LOT. No, really. Thanks. Some other blurry details: it was karaoke night, and everybody took turns singing (the KJ had quite an extensive song list). Oh, and Tiffany solicited our waitress's help in getting me drunk, casually mentioning that my birthday was coming up. Waitress looked me dead in the eye and announced "You're doing shots with me." And that, folks, was the beginning of the end. And the end result was my worst hangover in probably 5 years. Fast forward to a few weeks later, and finding ourselves with not much to do after dinner on a Saturday night, Mrs. Q and I decide to hop on down to Clancy's for some imbibin' and karaokein'. I had a much more sober, yet decently good time, so I noticed a few more details about the place. It's not nearly as divey as other places in Long Beach, but the crowd is eclectic. It's basically a microcosm of the city - you got old, young, black white and all shades in between, mostly all having a good time. To top it off, there were a couple of only-in-Long-Beach moments. 1) We noticed a 12 year old kid doing the moonwalk and HQ and I look at each other like, "Is there a kid hanging out at this bar at 11pm?" Sure enough, he comes up to sing "Man in the Mirror" with what appears to be his dad (or, uh, I hope it was an adult guardian). 2) Next up on the karaoke mic was a really, really drunk guy that looks like a slightly bigger version of Tattoo from Fantasy Island. Oh, and he was wearing leather pants. For all of the above, Clancy's is A-OK with me. Oh, and a bonus only-in-the-LBC moment: driving away from Clancy's, we saw a dude rollerblading (after midnight mind you) wearing a shirt that stated in large prominent font: FUCK THIS. Hadn't been here in years but just recently went to see a friend's band play on a Friday night. I must say, it's been improved quite a bit--not quite so divey and worn-down on the inside. Things have been fixed up and rearranged and it's a much more pleasant environment. They don't really have a proper "stage" but it's not a bad place to see a band--you're certainly up close and personal. Reasonably priced drinks and friendly staff make it favorable for a return visit. The patio can get quite cramped, however, with the crush of smokers. read more

I even dorked out and wore my Obama pin. So I was crestfallen when it seemed that the place was full of bitter, mourning republicans. Clancy's is a bar that will forever thrive on its regulars, even if the cheapskate owner is willing to hike up the prices of well drinks and cans of PBR from 4 to 5 dollars. Really... Can of PBR for 5 bucks? Karaoke on Wednesday and Sunday nights is always an exceptional time. Who doesn't like carrying on a tune and getting sloppy? When a band comes into play (who is actually good - some of which most definitely are not) my friends I have always been pleasantly surprised by an eclectic and enjoyable crowd. The food here gets overlooked as Clancy's is more of a place to come in and drink rather than sit down for a meal. Sandwiches I've tried have always been delicious (club and french dip), and from what I could steal from a friend's plate of food, the fish and chips were pretty decent. One of the only deterrents from coming into this bar is the lingering drunk owner who has been seen screaming at employees and customers on multiple occasions. Unfortunately I have not been to Clancy's once when the owner wasn't there, which is sad because Clancy's is a great neighborhood bar with a fun staff giving this bar its charisma and character. read more

The place was teeming with lecherous old drunks who would not bugger off. The topper to the evening was watching the waitress pick lemon slices out of a container with two inch long fingernails. Wowzers. I rolled into Clancy's around 11:30pm on a Sunday evening. The draw was a Beatles cover band called Abbey Road that was going on around 10pm, according to my friend who knows the owner. It turned out that 10 was going to be the cover (10 dollars, not 10 as in the time), and Abbey Road had come and gone sometime around 5pm. Oh well. Chimay on tap made it all better. There were only a handful of people there, and they were a little on the sketchy side. A loud couple wearing bright rocker wigs were on a mission; pounding beers, shots, and hard liquor back to back to back. One dude cruised around on old school roller skates. My friend witnessed a stabbing there a few nights previous. Clancy's certainly isn't lacking in the people watching department. I wouldn't go out of my way to revisit Clancy's, unless some cool band was playing again. I'd be sure to double check on the scheduled time too. read more

Worst service ever! Went in there for breakfast on a Saturday morning and we waited and waited and waited. We were sitting outside and I know they knew we were there, in fact, a family of four came in after us, sat at the table next to us, and finally got up and left when no one came to even say "hello." When the waitress finally showed up, she had to read the menu to see what came with the dish I ordered. Really? The Bloody Mary was good, nice and spicy, but served in a short glass so it was gone long before my food arrived. I thought the wait for service was bad, but now the wait for the food. She kept coming by and saying it will be here in a minute. After about 30 minutes, I finally delivered an ultimatum, food in one minute or we're gone. Well about 3 minutes later my dish showed up. And it was another 5 minutes before my friends breakfast arrived, and all he had was sausage and eggs. Actually the food was good. I had the Irish eggs benedict and really liked the corned beef hash, that's is how I judge breakfast, the quality of the hash. This was good. I live nearby and always wanted to try Clancy's for breakfast, never again. Even though the food is good, it is a little pricey. And there was obviously no manager around to oversee what was going on, and the waitress kept telling us they were busy, when most of the people were sitting at the bar drinking, and being served by the bartender. I mean, this is a Saturday morning around 11 AM, so no, it wasn't that busy. While we were eating, that family of four that left, came walking down the street with doggy bags, so I am pretty sure they found food at the American coffee shop up the street. Clancy's, you need to hire a good manager and take a good hard look at the service, or perhaps give up on trying to serve food, and just go back to being a bar. read more

I've only ever gone here for Karaoke, and that only a few times over the last, what, 7 years? But here are eight reasons why I love Clancy's: 1) AWESOME Karaoke crowd. Mostly everyone sucks, people jump up on the tables to dance, and everyone is your best pal by the end of the night. ie: Spontaneos "Summer Lovin' duets with that dude you just met five minutes ago who is now your long-lost-brother. 2) The crack-whore named Precious who sings the same two songs every time I've been there. And her wig. 3) The homeless guy I call Bill who sings "Just a Gigolo" each and every time. 4) A Boy Named Sue. 6) That there was a pot of chili and toast just, like, hanging out for folks to eat. Reminded me of Gold Star in Chicago, but more pleasant. 7) Oh yeah, cheap motherf*ckin' strong ass drinks served by a wry old-man bartender in a silly vest with square horn-rimmed glasses just like my Geometry teacher from High School. 8) A parking lot. Came here with some friends hoping to have a good time. Was seriously let down. The staff was awful. Rude from the start. One girl even told my friend he could not use the jukebox. I would not return due to the awful staff alone, but that was not the only problem. Apparently the regulars did not enjoy noobs at their bar. The beer also tasted funny. Dear Clancy's, I don't love you, but I don't hate you either. You're a safe choice when my friends and I don't feel like thinking too much about where we want to go on a Saturday night. I really wish your ladies room wasn't "onstage" because it feels like I'm notifying everyone in the bar of my intent to urinate when their eyes are peeled front and center. I really adore your karaoke nights and the fact that you are within walking distance from my friend's house so I don't have to deal with the terrible state of parking in the LBC. Also, I definitely love that you're not filled with douchebags like some of the bars Downtown or on 2nd. Honestly, I'd give you 4 stars, but you haven't won me over just yet.
