What can I say? It's an Irish Pub within stumbling distance from my main haunts that opens at 7 am. They're nothing special and don't have any gimmicks, but you can get a good beer, eat some decent bar food, and listen to other people sing karaoke (since I don't sing). CAUTION! BE EXTREMELY CAREFUL ABOUT PARKING. I was towed from the sushi parking lot. $300, not fun. I came here once just for drinks and another time to watch my friend's band. The acoustics are pretty terrible and viewing the band from their little alcove is not always easy. The bartenders are nice and helpful and very good at getting young girls (like me) out of conversations with creepy old men (they're around sometimes). It's very very small and gets crowded. The outdoor area is nice, if a little smoky at times. And I've never tried the food, but the menu seems expensive. First things first- Clancy's is a dive bar. So, to some extent, you have to manage your expectations. Now, within the context of dive bars, Clancy's is truly one of my favorites. I've been there on numerous occassions to see local bands, and every time the service was great and the atmosphere was just what I was looking for: comfortable and fun. Recently I was able to actually play a show there, and the experience was even better. We got a Living Social coupon for two beer samplers and two appetizer plates, so we headed down to LB for some fun. And we found it. Great place, funky dive-ish atmosphere, and more tvs than ESPN Zone (well, maybe not, but way more per square foot! :) ) Amazingly good selection of beers (we got 6 6oz 'samples') with a lot of ales and stouts on the menu. Can't make any hard beer recommendations cuz they started to blur by the end... wonder why.... The sampler plate was so-so, except for the wings which were dynamite; very old-style, real Buffalo wings. They had football and hockey on when we arrived but about 8 the tvs went dark and they had live music (this was a Thursday night) I wouldn't have driven to LB to hear the group, but they didn't drive us out either. On the music and the food, this place is probably a 3 or 4, but you throw in the beer selection and the funky atmosphere, it's a winner. read more

I came here during Twitchcon by chance, and I'm glad I did! Wound up coming here twice during the convention, talk about a gem of a place. Karaoke on one night, and then just a nice relaxed bar the other night. The drinks are strong, well made, and reasonably priced. The bartenders are fantastic, especially Chris who absolutely rocked the entire evening with a group full of loud nerds that crashed the place. Both a gentleman, and an amazing bartender! I was happy with the delivery and that's why it's 2 stars however as for the food I would only rate it as 1 star. I had the prime French dip and it was well done and there was more cheese than meat. I was very disappointed when I was expecting the advertised "Slow roasted to medium rare, cartelized red onions, provolone, on a french baguette; au jus." wow. out of all the nice things I could say about a place, Clancy's doesn't deserve ANY of them. Yes, I could give them the benefit of the doubt and just chalk it up to being a "one time" kind of bad experience and that next time would be better, however, I wont. Nothing about my experience at Clancy's was positive. (aside from meeting a few cool peeps and hearing live music played by my friends band). The bartender took 30 minutes just to take my order (and I was sitting at the bar). My vodka cranberry had maybe 1/4 of a shot of vodka in it and the rest was watered down cranberry juice. my husband ordered a beer. Out bill was $17 for a well drink and a Bud Light!!! WTF?? I assume the bar tender used our change from the $20 I gave him to snort some coke in the bathroom and in turn forgot to give us the change from it. I will also assume that the $17 which our bill came to was partially used to support his little habit because I've never paid $17 for a Bud Light and a well drink in my entire life. They also have a $20 tab minimum...which I guess shouldn't be hard to achieve with the drink prices this place has set for themselves. Probably the worst bar I have been to...well, ever. read more

I have been to this place many times and always have been treated very nicely which has always made me want to go back but, the employee was so rude to me and I left after that and will probably never return. I will not be back. I went in for a bite to eat while I was waiting for my laundry to finish drying across the street. The food was terrible. I ordered a Philly cheesesteak and I'm not sure what they put on it, but it wasn't cheese. It's a sort of tasteless lumpy cheese gravy. About 1 hour later I got really ill. I will spare you the details. While I was trying to eat on the patio, a regular with a pretty obvious meth addiction came out to smoke and to tell me all about the demons in her house :( Get off the meth, sweetie. I've been numerous times over the years. Usually at the request of others. This place has always had great potential as a walk to neighborhood bar. Parking is very limited. Believe it or not, the food used to be good. Now, it's unremarkable. Bloody Mary's aren't this bars forte. I think the biggest problem I have with this place is, all the fruit flies flying around inside. Hundreds of them. All e time. If you're in the business, you know what this means. It isn't good. I don't ever use Yelp but felt the need tonight. I went here to use the rest room but was told it is only for paying customers by the bartender. My reply was, " I have been here may times as a paying customer just not tonight and won't be back as a customer." I have lived in Long Beach for about 6 years and actually had a going away party from my previous job at Clancy's. My friend's friend's band plays here occasionally, which was the reason for most recent visit. I haven't been to Clancy's in oh, maybe a year and a half. I used to go to the "old" Clancy's a few years ago prior to the new ownership, when it was a total disgusting dirty dive. Then they completely redid it and it slightly improved. There have been some more changes in the past year. There's now a patio and big glass windows in the front. It seems a lot less sketch than years past, but this is still not a place I would go unless dragged. Drinks were weak but at least they were cheap. Bleh. read more

We went in to Clancy's on St. Patrick's Day for a drink, but never received one. We sat down at one of the tables, next to other tables that were occupied. Although, 3 different servers passed by our table at different times, not one stopped to take our order. The first time we came to this place was on St. Patrick's day. Everything is a little on the pricey side there, so we were having trouble ordering. We didn't realize it was the owner who was taking our order, until, upon realizing we were broke, says, "don't worry about it guys, what do you want? It's on me". We were both shocked, but he brought us a a Smithwicks and Guinness for free. Pretty sweet. The atmosphere is very dive bar. They usually have a pretty mixed crowd, but the majority of the people I've seen here are older. Our bartender's have always been really attentive and friendly. The manager Jen is really cool too. I was a huge fan of Clancy's until tonight. My party was there and the waitress, who I thought we had a relationship with made a mistake and overcharged everyone in my party. When she was made aware of the mistake, she was rude and dismissive and walked away when we had questions. I called the manager ( Scott ) he too acted just like the waitress (Jocelyn) and told me he was busy handling the bar. I've been a customer for over 5 years and to feel dismissed really makes me question my business there! I'm definitely calling "Scott" again tomorrow when he has time to listen to his customers. I hate Karaoke but I like this place because I can watch soccer here when there is a decent game on. True Clancy's story: I once came in randomly after work because it is very close to my apartment. I sat down next to some guy in a cowboy hat who was unbelievably shitfaced and ordered a Guinness. After staring at the beer in front of him for around 5 minutes the guy projectile vomited all over the bar and floor in front of him and in the process knocked over his beer. The bartendress scolded him, handed him a towel and made him clean up the entire mess himself. I used to go here after work for the Guinness and good vibes from the crowd and friendly bartenders. They also had a great juke at one point mixing in British punk rock with Isaac Hayes and Nick Cave. The parking challenge used to be worth the effort. The staff seems stressed and uptight, and the food is mediocre. It really sucks that one of my favorite bars has steadily gone downhill the past 6, 7 years but the change in management seems to be the main culprit.
