    Clam dip (too garlicky)
    Karen C.

I wish I could say this place was good but I wasn't impressed at all. My family and I visited during a vacation to Atlantic Beach. We were having trouble finding somewhere to eat but this place had good hours. My husband wanted to try the clam dip and was really excited about it. Unfortunately, it was so garlicky that it was inedible. We all tried it and all said it was bad. I NEVER send food back, but I had to ask them to take it back and remove it from our bill. It was that bad. For our meal I got shrimp and grits. It was decent. The shrimp was a little overcooked, but the sauce was good. My sister got the shrimp Alfredo and said it was good. My mom got spaghetti with meat sauce and it just had some meat dumped on top of it, it wasn't mixed in with the sauce. It was edible buy nothing special. My husband got the Mahi Mahi and said it wasn't very good. I have to admit he is a very picky eater though. One other issue was that you only get one free refill on drinks. I thought that was a strange policy and have never run across that before. The glasses were full of small ice, so there wasn't a lot of soda. They did bring us a carafe of diet coke since 3 of us were drinking it. My husband got lemonade and they brought him a refill. There are so many good restaurants in Atlantic Beach that I can't really recommend this one. But if you are like us and couldn't find a place open, you can try this place.

I got the life is gravy and it was delicious! The food, service, and ambience were incredible. Would highly recommend.

Let me start by saying that this restaurant is under new management since the last reviews were given. The hotel/restaurant were sold and they're trying to start fresh with new staff and menu - and they're doing an excellent job! We've been here under the former management and while the food and dining experience was ok then, it was phenomenal this time around. Chelsea was our server every time and she went above and beyond! She remembered our "likes" from one meal to another and made sure we had everything we wanted/needed. We chatted easily with her and we're able to cut up and laugh with her, which is just our style. The chef came out and explained the changes taking place and sincerely wanted to know our thoughts on our dinner so we told him.....everything was wonderful! My boyfriend's ribeye was cooked just right and had an excellent flavor. He said his fries were very good as was his salad. I had a shrimp and crab cake combo with baked potato and slaw and ate every bite, which I rarely ever do. The shrimp were good but the crab cake was the best I've ever had out anywhere!! It tasted just like the ones my mom made years ago and I've never found any that compare...until now. My only suggestion would be that it be a little thicker....but flavor-wise, it was perfection!! If you're looking for a fancy restaurant, this is not it. The space/decor is very basic and simple, and the food is straight up good at a good price! My only suggestion would be to dim the lights at diadd some oil lamps/candles to the table, maybe add some light jazz or otherwise laidback/soft music (maybe even some light reggae?) during the dinner hours. Maybe add some tall/tropical plants throughout the room and in between tables - the tables are already a great distance apart and the plants would just add a sense of greater privacy. Keep the upbeat music for breakfast /lunch. Breakfast is also excellent and very reasonably priced. I'd highly recommend this place, even if you aren't staying at The Inn!

This restaurant is hit or miss. The crab dip was too heavy on the cream cheese however the blackened mahi-mahi was perfectly cooked and seasoned. The peel and eat shrimp are also delicious and don't miss their fried okra! Great outdoor tiki bar where you can order food and drinks right on the ocean!

    "Vanila" Fried Ice-Cream

*2 Hour Culinary Experience* 2 Stars for 2 Hours and the Hush Puppies. Identifying Information: Monday Evening: 5:00pm First to be seated in restaurant 4 people in our party. Seated and drink order was taken: Water Mountain Dew Dr. Pepper Lemonade 3 other tables were seated (they received their drinks). Drink order Retaken by second waitress. No remorse from the first waitress. Second waitress changes clothes. No lie. 15 minutes later-Drinks arrive while other table begins eating. Ordered Food: 2 Shrimp Scampi Chicken Tenders and Fries Mac and Cheese with Fried Ice Cream 2 Tables finish food...we receive order of hush puppies. POSITIVE SIDE NOTE: The Hush Puppies were delicious. Fast forward to an hour and a half later.... As the waitress's hair brushes effortlessly along the pasta and bread...the Food arrives (minus the fried ice-cream). The 3 year-old casually screams "ice-cream" as the waitress wipes the hush puppy substance from the corners of her mouth, still chewing the delicious fried sweetness. As a hair is set aside from the Shrimp Scampi, one last bite is taken as the sound of screaming "ice-cream" lingers in air. All but one other table have completed their meal, paid, and left. My friend Karen is now considering speaking with the manager. I remind her that there is no manager. Check comes...no ice cream. 3 year-old reminds waitress of "ICE-CREAM." Only other table left eating is freaking out...Ken (male version of Karen) is losing it. Something about his salad. Paid the check (15% tip). Waited. Still no ice cream. "Karen" is frantically looking around. 7:15 pm. Hiccup Hilly (waitress) finally brings the to-go box. Our Vanila ice-cream has arrived. She needs to slow her roll on the hush puppies and dew. First to be seated, last to leave. "If you ain't first, you're last!" We were both! We're Winning! Group of staff hiding in the hallway wished us a good evening. Friendly folk they were. To the previous reviewer (Yelper)....We never caught a glimpse of the hooker working the hot tub. Disappointing. Food Good Service Bad Thanks Covid!

We ordered the Half Chef's Tour, which is their charcuterie, and it was honestly one of my favorite parts of the night. Great variety, really well balanced, and perfect for sharing. It set the tone for the whole meal. The scallop nightly special was perfectly cooked with that golden sear and super tender inside. The rosemary steak had so much flavor and was cooked exactly right. The Brussels were crispy and savory, and even the potstickers were a standout. Nothing felt like an afterthought. Service was perfect for the tapas setting too. Not rushed, we didn't feel over bothered, but not neglected either. Overall, it felt elevated but still comfortable. A great experience without feeling over the top. We'll definitely be back.

We arrived with a reservation (always a wise move), though we were seated immediately, greeted by a gracious host who set our lunch off on the right note. Once settled, we were welcomed by Philip, whose ease and genuine enthusiasm made the experience feel less transactional and more personal. He spoke about the menu with confidence and curiosity, the mark of someone who truly enjoys being there. Drinks came first: my husband ordered a Painkiller easily one of the best we had during our time on the coast while our son stuck with a classic Coke, and I opted for water. As we ordered, it became clear we were leaning fully into the small plates philosophy. When Philip smiled and dubbed us "tapas aficionados," it felt like an acknowledgment rather than a joke and in that moment, we felt perfectly at home. The table filled quickly. Spanish lamb meatballs arrived first, glazed with sriracha and paired with whipped feta and cilantro bold, balanced, and deeply satisfying. Pork pot stickers followed, tender and flavorful, with a soy-ginger dipping sauce and sweet Thai chili providing just the right contrast. The Gambas al Ajillo shrimp bathed in extra-virgin olive oil and garlic, served with crostini, was classic and comforting. But the standout was the Potatoes Bravas: sliced potatoes grilled to a crisp and finished with a spicy brava aioli. They were addictive in the best way, the kind of dish you keep thinking about long after the table is cleared. Circa 81 is polished yet relaxed, clean, and thoughtfully maintained, a place where the food arrives hot, the service feels human, and the atmosphere invites you to linger. It's a restaurant I would happily return to, and one that earned its place among my favorites on the Crystal Coast.

After pointing out the specials board, first they tried to tell me it wasn't on special and then after she physically went outside and read the board that THEY put out there, they said that was only for their frozen fish. I did not ending up purchasing the fish but called later just to see if their stories would stay consistent and they said over the phone that all flounder was $5.99/pound and that they would weigh it after the cleaned it. I then told her I was the same person who tried to purchase the flounder earlier on special and she still made up different stories about what I was trying to purchase vs what was on the specials board. Felt like they were trying to take advantage of a local because maybe they thought I was a tourist. Very disappointed and will be taking all my seafood business to Captain Jim's instead. Also, tried to purchase blue crabs last summer and after they checked, they were all dead from being too cold in their freezer. @Blue Ocean - do better!

Step one should be the same for everyone. Get there when they open at 4:45 because damn does this place get busy quick even on weekdays. When I rolled into the parking lot at 4:40, I had probably 15-20 already at the door. Step two, if you get there at open, consider bar seating. Clam Chowder - Scalloped Scallops - Key Lime Pie I'll just keep it at this. Is anything I ordered going to reinvent the culinary wheel? No, and one could argue that the only negative here is that most everything is on the pricey side. But with that said, everything was extremely consistent, everything was brought out perfectly timed, my cup never runnethed (sure, it's a word) empty and the bar staff are all excellent conversationalists. Also one big upside, the ambiance. The bar area is kept dark as it should be in any bar type situation and the music selection was mostly a fantastic mix of classic R&B and Blues. Can't tell you the last time I enjoyed seafood while listening to John Lee Hooker (well, I can and it would be never which is why my mind was sort of blown). Groaney, groan, groan on some of the pricing but the overall situation here is worth the five stars. I get the hype and I get why it's always busy. Also, kudos to the owner who was up front and making sure to thank every single person that walked by/out the door. Very classy.
