My wife (who is probably going to post her own review just after mine) and I are full-time residents of Palm Desert and came her for the first time today. She's vegetarian and was very excited to see their house-made blackbean burger on the menu and was far from disappointed. I got the bleu cheese burger which also was great. The food was average for breakfast. It wasn't terrible but there was also nothing special about it. I gave the place a 2 star rating for their service. We waited nearly an hour for our food which shouldn't of taken that long, especially for your standard eggs and bacon breakfast. The waitress was unresponsive and didn't check on us while we were waiting for our food. After 45 minutes we asked them if we could get some kind of a discount due to the long wait and we could see the waitress in the back roll her eyes. Shortly after we got our food and the waitress didn't even acknowledge or apologize for the long wait, which was very rude. However, 5 STARS goes to Rodolfo the gentleman constantly refilling our drinks. I believe he was a bus boy but by the way he worked you would have thought he was the manager. He performed way beyond his duties! You can see that he works extremely hard and he did his best to accommodate us when the wait staff didn't. Found this place by chance on our first visit to Indian Wells and it has been our go to ever since. Good food and portions at a great price without the crazy 30-40 min wait of some of these other spots. Don't get me wrong, it can get crowded, but definetly not like some of the other breakfast spots we have seen. It's kinda secluded which I think helps to keep the crowd to a minimal. My favorite and my go to every time is the Country Benedict, just the comfort food you would want in the morning. read more

After a bad experience while waiting for a table at IHOP we decided to leave and come to CJ's Diner. I'm absolutely glad we did. This place is very hidden. I've been around the area numerous times and I've never seen the restaurant until yesterday. I recommend getting the CJ burger. So many burgers in the valley taste the same but this one was different. I enjoyed this burger the way I enjoy fancy meals. 10/10 recommend this diner! read more

I used to really enjoy coming to C J's for a wonderful breakfast or lunch however this last experience I had is worth writing about to inform ALL CUSTOMERS (NEW AND OLD) of just who CJ is. I recently ordered a 'tuna melt' with french fries as my side dish to share with my wife for a quick lunch. We waited 35 minutes to get a cold grilled tuna melt with french fries THAT HAD A PIECE OF WIRE IN THEM. Yes a piece of twisted wire. When I told the waitress she brought the OWNER OVER. HE LOKED AT THE WIRE, WENT BACK TO THE KITCHEN AND CAME BACK TELLING US IT WAS THE DISTRIBUTORS FAULT. He took our plates away and gave us new fries. The sandwich was ice cold. When i told the waitress the sandwich was cold she apologized,brought us back a hot sandwich and said she wasnt charging us for my drink. They then handed us a CHECK FOR THE SANDWICH.!!!!!! This owner DOES NOT DESERVE YOUR BUSINESS NOR DOES HE DESERVE THE RIGHT TO CALL HIMSELF a restauranteur. This is not how GOOD PEOPLE DO BUSINESS!!! Not once did he apologize or try to make it right. I related this incident to a discussion group we attend and all those familiar with CJ's will not only not go there but they are spreading this story around to their friends as well. We almost didn't stop because of some the negative comments. Glad I went with my hungry gut feeling!! I had the banana pecan pancakes which were awesome! My husband had the French toast, also excellent. We come through at least twice a year from Central CA across I-10 to Austin. Our standard stop is Sherman's, but the wait and parking is a hassle. We had a timeshare at the Marriott property across the street from here for several years, but had never heard of cj's. We will return. 4 stars because there is always room for improvement and, like many other reviews, the staff is not attentive. They are very friendly, but never checked on us at any time after our food arrived. We were there around 11:30 and only 5-6 tables were in use. The staff all congregated at the bar area and spoke with the regulars, but there were others in the place that also needed attention. read more

Ok so I asked the brunette manager who brought our coffee (not the waitress) if she could bring us more cream for our 2 coffee's.. As the little ceramic cream container was small and again there were 2 coffees on the table.. Her answer was a firm & elongated "NOOOOO".. We honestly thought she was just kidding.. Turns out she wasn't.. Later we asked our waitress for cream, who perhaps isn't allowed to override the manager so that didn't pan out either.. Finally, ten minutes later I had to walk up to the bar area and push the issue myself & got cream for my already cold coffee (tasty).. Maybe someone's back there milking the cow or something (hard to say).. But it truly set the pace for the rest of the meal which didn't go much better.. The only reason I'am rating 4 stars is because our waitress wasn't attentive enough it wasn't too busy either. They gave us our bill and we had to wait a little while until I had to flag our waitress down because she was looking at another customers and then she was talking on the phone when she handed us the bill don't even get a thank you for coming. We had breakfast here and it was absolutely wonderful. Our server Rose was very sweet, accommodating, and funny. A few other members of the staff checked on us as well and everyone was so nice and friendly! The food was delicious and very reasonably priced! Before hitting the freeway to head out of town we, once more, had to stop at our favorite breakfast/lunch diner in the desert. CJS never disappoints. From our chorizo and eggs to our scrumptious French toast with berries and cream to the mouth watering hot chocolate our tummies were full and satisfied to start our trip home. Thanks again Pam and all the other friendly servers. You make our time in the desert worth the long trip. We get wonderful quality food and kind and insightful desert advice. Happy 4th to all at CJs. Very laid back diner with a small bar seating, ample tables and a few booths at the windows. Dead fly on the window sill. Crumbs and used napkin on the floor. Seemed like a friendly family location for locals. Prompt service. Specials of the day: pulled pork sandwich, fried chicken and bean soup. Obvious choice to me for diner food is fried chicken. Liked that I had a choice of dark meat over dark. Fried chicken served up with mash and gravy plus coleslaw. Coleslaw tasted stale to me although my husband thought it was good. Large portion equivalent to half chicken. This came out in 5 minutes. Meat was fall off the bone like pressure-cooked or sous vide. Not complaining but it's a little different from typical textures. Obviously this is the more efficient time saving way to go. Skin could have been more crispy. A little bland although when paired with the gravy, it was fine. Corned beef hash: comes out of a can, but it's good. Served with hash browns, 2 eggs and choice of toast. Poached eggs done perfectly! Hash browns could be more crisp. Toast is toast: came buttered and two jelly condiments. No drinks: About $30 out the door after taxes and tip. I wouldn't order the chicken again, but the corned beef was ok. Knowing what to expect from a diner experience would put things in perspective. read more
