I like this place. I live walk distance away from it and have only just started going there. It was closed for some time. The bartenders are nice though we did have an experience with one where we wait over 15 minutes to be acknowledged. She turned out not to be so bad though so no complaints. The menu is kind of small. After ending a week sourly with guilt ridden from a big mishap on my part, I needed to have alone time-- power of one. Empanadas- one beef, and one beef with cheese $5.95. Small seasoned fries $2.95 was entirely salty and bland without any seasoning. Margarita $9.00 during Happy Hour served "straight up" without ice was a delight. CJ's Bar and Lounge is a local sports bar that serves the Ozone Park, Queens community. Live entertainment is available at select nights. TV screens displaying sporting events is imperative to the regulars clientele of the avid sports aficionado. Yes at synchronized times of game winnings the bar got somewhat rowdy. For a Saturday night it was not entirely crowded nor hustling busy. Quality of food is average, but my drink and the service I've experienced do not diminish my perception for this review. I was hoping for Hash Brown to be offered in their food menu, but none were avail. Background music was somewhat loud. Customer service is friendly, welcoming with smile, courteous with respect and attentive to my needs. The woman bartender engaged in a brief ice breaker conversation: "Is this the first time here? Do you live around here? What type of drinks do you like?" The bar tender prepared my Margarita without overpowering of too much sweetness. It contained a good consistency of the right balance. So I had heard about this place before I came on my trip to New York through a friend and decided to check it out. I couldn't find the place at first but saw the bright green lighting outside which began the fun atmospheric ambiance. Music is super loud but guess what, this is a bar and I would hope the music would be loud and fun! Plenty of room with characteristic locals providing fun chatter. Now I recommend stopping for Monday Night Wings which we're very delicious (and I usually don't eat meat but couldn't pass up .25 cents a piece with a minimum of 6 order). I couldn't believe it was packed being a Monday and not the weekend but that's for the wings :) Now they have a large selection of drinks and an extensive menu of food options. On top of the wings I ordered some nachos which were thin and not too crunchy (reminds me of the tortilla chips back in L.A.). They were loaded with cheese and topped with pico de gallo and guacamole plus served with a smile that I won't soon forget. I think I forgot to mention the wing selection for sauces was amazing and I had a hard time deciding which ones to try so I tried three different flavors (all of which were yummy). If I lived here I would be a local to this place, that's how much I was impressed. So in review if you want a non-boring time I recommend stopping at CJs Bar and Grill for a taste of Queens you won't want to miss. read more

I personally love the place, the bartenders are on point and their drinks menu is pretty good the food is amazing (jacked up burger with bow wow fries) and whenever i come out to hangout i have a great time! I enjoy the variety of music the Dj's play they make sure people stay dancing. I've been reading the bad reviews and it looks like some of them were escorted out of the bar (if your friend is a fighter leave him at the gym) and decided to leave a bad review so if you haven't been at the place please try it out and don't let other people's hate prevent you from having a good time. The bar itself is a cool local spot. Lots of regulars and people in the area come. They have a backyard, beer pong and good music. The best part is their drink specials. I went in today for their half priced drinks. Got a Long Island iced tea, and a jager bomb for half the price. The *only* part about this place that makes it receive 3 stars for me is their bartenders. They obviously only hire hot young girls which is cool, but none of them are professional. I've come here ALOT, and every time I'm ignored so they can flirt with men to get a better tip. I'm a server myself, so I know how to be a proper server. Today was the worst though. Didn't get her name because she didn't notice us until idk 10 mins we walked in and sat right at the bar, mind you it's not "packed" but at the end of the bar there's a bunch of men that she's chatting up. She then notices us, asks for our IDs and doesn't check them until idk another ten minutes after. She had some friendly banter afterwards but when we gave her our order this is when it became a hot mess. After another 10 mins she's at the end of the bar again but comes back and asks what we ordered again. Cool whatever. Then she goes back to the end of the bar and we wait ANOTHER 10+ minutes. So long that my friend had to shout "Can we at least get the shots?" Because it doesn't take a brain to pour a shot. She yelled back "you can get it after I finish my sentence." I wasn't looking at her so I wasn't sure if she was joking. But she brought them right after. Anyway she tried to warm us up after by asking to perform a "trick" and then insisting she overpoured our drinks which she might've done because they were gross. The whole time you just hear her screaming FUCK YOU FUCK THIS FUCK THAT CASH ME OUTSIDE, so much that when a man who probably owned the place walked in and heard her and she had to bow her head in shame. I then proceeded to wait another 10-15 for my check but she insisted on walking back and forth talking to everyone else and eating the wrong food she brought out to people. Lol doubt it, but sure. We begrudgingly get in the cab....wtf are we doing? We just got so hammered we missed our 6 hour flight, we're gonna be okay with consuming MORE alcohol? YUP. So cab drives us to CJs. Honestly...in the mix...windy potholed roads through the neighborhood to this gas station parking lot? Yeah. We're gonna die. We don't. We make it to this glorious watering hole. Walk in. "KIKI. DO YOU LOVE ME" on the jukebox. Oh yeah. We're at home. Order a basic drink. Probably a whiskey coke. AND ITS ON. The bartender is amazing and lit. His friends flock over. We're having a damn TIME. Queue up every song we've ever known on the jukebox. Dance our fucking hearts out. Crowd is going wild. It's beautiful. I know this was mostly a story about how my homegirl and I were damn idiots and missed our million mile flight home, but I'm glad we did it at CJs. Great service. Fine tunes. I'm just starting to get my feet wet on the bar scene and apparently in doing so I've stumbled into a rather quaint area of Queens: Ozone Park. And of course Groupon nudged me in that direction as well. On the "scenic" drive you can experience the racetrack (for you gamblers), Resorts Casinos (for you penny slot players, you know who you are.), and a Cross Bay Motel (no comment). Ironically enough the clientele in this bar/lounge are exactly the same clientele of the previous mentioned locales. Add in a dash of blue collar and you got ya self a PARTY! Okay, maybe not a party but on this day a group of rowdy chicks (I would assume they were regulars as the owner came out to greet/warn them or over doing shenanigans. I guess they must have embarked on this local watering hole to get their drink on with HAPPY HOUR BOGO from 11-7pm weekdays. Indeed. If you are a sports fan and don't want to pay expensive ticket prices to see a game LIVE, you might as well come here because with the 5 TVS (4 in front of the bar and 1 giant TV directly across from the edge of the bar), you won't miss ANY ACTION. The lady bartender/waitress was extremely hospitable as one of the patrons asked her to put on a hockey game on one of the 4 TVs at the bar and she didn't hesitate to do so to please the customer. Brownie points. The service was pretty good considering that she was the only bartender/waitress serving 7 people before the group of 4 rowdy chicks rolled in. Be kind to your bartender and they will be kind to you. I believe they were playing drunken music chairs or about to play it seemingly. The filet mignon sliced steak was...UNBELIEVABLY GOOD. It was tender, full of flavor and it was really packed in this Philly as it SHOULD BE. Other bars should take notice. This should be the standard in bar foods. The chunky finger fries was on point as well. Mcdonald's? PFFT EFF out of here with that BS. This is the real deal. ***BUFFALO CHICKEN WRAP - I guess I like chicken. This wrap was simple. The buffalo sauce was like any other buffalo sauce served with a side of chunky finger fries. Good stuff. ***BUFFALO WINGS - Okay, I REALLY LIKE chicken. The wings were standard size with some that were smaller than the others. They had 5 options honey jack, mild, medium, hot and DAMN! Yes, "DAMN!" was the option. Yes, I ordered it. DAMN! was not nearly spicy enough for me as a seasoned heat seeker. But luckily the bartender had prepared a jar of Red Devil hot sauce on deck just in case so I was one happy camper once I put about 15 more dashes on it. Dripping nostrils is how I like to eat. The DRINKS from their online site are not in the menu although the bartender kindly asked what the ingredients were when I ordered/showed her the menu through my smartphone screen and she made it for me. You got me at "Orient" even though it a word made up by you know who to describe a race of people that were not too favored at that time. Its body was light, crisp with a smooth finish. This is one beer I won't get tired of drinking ALL DAY. After all this food, even the owner stopped by to ask "where are you putting this buddy...", shyt if I know, lol. I was ready for a nap. You should stop here because there are many things in the vicinity. Pet owners - there is a pet supply store across the way. Yogurt/Ice Cream fiends - there is a gelato store across the way Narcoleptic Folks - there is a Sleepy's across the way and a motel on the same street Sinners - there is a motel on the same street or Sleepy's (I honestly don't think they'd mind) Athletic folks - Baseball diamond/semi soccer field across the way. This was one of my worst dining experiences of my life. I wasn't looking for 5 star cuisine, just bar food. My parents were flying out of JFK early in the AM. I thought I would take them to a local sports bar type place for a quick, light bite, as that was more of what we felt like having that night. The music was a little loud and the waitress was a little slow but early on, we were doing ok. The chicken fingers were totally fine. Then, my sandwich and my dad's came out. They were followed 30 minutes later by my mom's Ceasar salad with no meat in it. (How that took 30 minutes longer, I never want to know!) We were the only table the waitress had and still my husband's chicken snadwich is Missing in Action. The music is getting much louder and less appealing and the waitress ACTUALLY walks out the door. She leaves! She returns says she had to "get something" which I can only assume is a part of my husband's sandwich. She finally brings him this sandwich an hour after I have received my food. As she drops the plate in front of him, she actually says "Sorry, I know the cook, he sucks." Then she walks away. Later she gives us a coupon for 2:1 drinks on our next visit in order to make up for the slow delivery of the food. Great, just what I want. 2 for 1 drinks at a place I never want to return to. Discussion occurs and she eventually makes good with an actual discount, but the damage was done. To make matters worse, my husband actually exhibited symptoms of food poisoning overnight. read more

I really hope that this review doesn't get hidden like almost all of the other bad reviews on other businesses, here on yelp. For some reason they'll only show you maybe a quarter of the bad reviews and mostly show the good reviews. This bar, was pretty good when it first opened. It was local, knew people who went there, the food was decent and the drinks weren't over priced. I have no idea what goes on inside this establishment but people have gotten stabbed there, robbed, fights break out all the time. Having nothing to do a couple months ago we went there, my friend and I. Would you believe that the bouncers wanted to frisk us??! They were doing it to men and women. I said oh hell no and of course we never wound up going in but that place is a real menace to the neighborhood. It needs new management or new owner or something because it can't go on like this. it attracts all the degenerates, drug addict's and punks. For your own safety, think twice about going there. I'm new to New York and decided to head out to a local bar to catch the football game last night. The bartender was friendly and the only reason I'm giving this place two stars. There were maybe a handful of people there, if that. We ordered calamari for a bite, it took 45 minutes and it was awful. We told the bartender and she took it back. Went to this restaurant Memorial Day weekend...waited and waited....sat at a table ordered drinks that never came. Had two kids with us,who were quite restless. No drinks for them either. No one even in the restaurant. All we kept hearing is the waitresses saying sorry to all patrons that left.We were told only one cook and noone else on the back of the house....took over two hours to get our meal....for being in the restaurant business this establishment should have planned better....this put a huge damper on our vacation at the John Carver Inn seeing this was the only restaurant in the building....Will never go back!!! read more

I came here initially because I read reviews about the drink prices being so good. When I went they were same price as any bar I've been to in queens so I don't understand the reviews. (They advertised 4$ drinks until midnight for ladies and they charged me full price...) When I went to the bar I had two old guys continuously try and hit on me even though I made clear I wasn't interested. Not really my type of crowd or scene (not bars fault but just saying type of crowd that's there) There was a huge commotion. Don't get me wrong I understand bars have fights from time to time but I've never seen an employee start a fight. I saw a small girl arguing with the bouncer, not sure about what but all I saw is him hit her in the face and chaos broke out until it was dragged outside. The only thing I heard is one of the girls say you just hit a 17 year old girl and the workers from the bar just kept denying it. They continued arguing outside, I didn't catch anything that happened outside because I didn't follow the drama. The last thing I saw is two of the guys come back Inside & the guy who hit the girl blatantly said " yea I hit the girl i don't care about losing my job. I'll do it again" I left after that. I will NEVER return to this bar after witnessing this, it was disgusting and the bouncer should be arrested!! Wish I could leave negative stars. I have no clue if there is an food served here, but over all it just looks like an old school bar with games on the tvs, and their might be a pool table, not sure. The bartenders have 3-6 foot sticks up their asses, all depending on what customer their serving at the time. They've got some shit attitudes, its almost humorous..... CJs is a nice spot. It's nothing too extravagant but it's a good local spot. They have a Dj on some nights, but when they run promo nights it gets obnoxiously packed and it's small so you can't move. I'd give this place zero stars if possible. I called around the night of one of the UFC fight nights to see which sports bars would be showing it- my normal spot was already packed. The guy that picked up the phone at CJ's had no idea what I was talking about and said he would call the owner to find out and call me back. He kept asking if I meant WWE. No, I meant real fighting, UFC. I didn't think I would get a call back, so I headed toward the direction of another bar (far from me) that would be showing it. 5 mins later, CJ's called back and said they're showing it. Awesome I thought, I can stay local and drink..I didn't have to head out to Astoria and find a designated driver or cab it home. So we turned around and told the guys to meet us at CJ's instead. We found street parking easily since it was late and didn't have to worry about feeding the meters. I thought this to be a good sign, but I was wrong. Upon entering, the place is new, neat and clean- high tables and chairs with TVs screens around the bar. There's an outside seating area for the warmer weather and bathrooms to the back. The place was pretty empty, maybe 5 or 6 guys at the bar itself. My friends and I sat at one of the tables adjacent to the bar and waited to be greeted. We waited nearly 20 mins and no one came over to us. The bartender was busy flirting with the same 5 dudes at the bar and the other two guys were busy on their phones. I asked one of the guys if anyone was going to serve us and he said "oh I can, sure." He went over to get menus and another party of 3 walked in at the same time. He immediately seated them and handed them the menus I thought he was bringing over to us. He then went back behind the bar and started flirting with the bartender. We all immediately realized what was going on- we weren't white and that's why we weren't getting service. We were the only brown people there that night and apparently they thought we were the wrong color. As we got up to leave, the owner came over to us. He said he knows we were waiting long and apologized. He had their "cook" bring us nachos "on the house" and their signature cocktails "on the house". I explained to him the situation and he assured me that although his staff is slow, they are not racist. Then he went on to tell me about the "brown" girls he's dated! Really?! All the while, still no UFC being shown. I refused to eat or drink anything in fear of someone's bodily fluids being in my food but the guys wolfed down their drinks and nachos. They reported that the drinks were strong but the nachos were cheap microwaved garbage. The owner asked us to stay and drink on him but we still got up to leave. As we were walking out, the bartender and the two other guys started laughing amongst themselves. I'm glad I didn't eat or drink from there. I will never be back and neither will my friends. There are so many better sports bars around the area to spend your good money at- CJ's is not one of them! read more
